7701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New troll narrative, "Running a full node will make you a criminal" on: December 04, 2020, 10:32:46 AM
Dude doesn't make any sense. It's almost like owning a knife company and you being criminalized just because one of your customers used one of your knives to murder someone by stabbing.
7702  Local / Pilipinas / Re: ATH na ba? on: December 04, 2020, 09:35:38 AM
Sayang the last few months hindi pa ako naka buy mga June sana nakita ko na btc na mukhang pataas na nga base sa mga news na nababasa ko daily at nag hesitate pa ako na bumili nag x2 na sana pera ko pero sa tingin ko malaki pa ang iaangat ng btc hanggang next year isipin nalang natin may pandemic pa pero nagpump ang btc ano pa kaya kapag tuluyan maging normal ang mundo baka tumaas ng mas malaki pa yan up to $50k next year

Lesson: para sa karamihan, dollar(or peso)-cost averaging is the way to go.

7703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you cover your paperwallet? on: December 04, 2020, 06:54:14 AM
If you're talking about the 12-24 word backup, then I'd suggest etching the words in steel. You know, to prevent damages from water and fire and stuff: https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/

If you're talking about a literal paper wallet though, just place it in a waterproof Ziploc bag, and place it in a fire-proof safe. Word of caution though, paper wallets aren't for everyone as they can really be complicated to made in a way that your keys actually couldn't be leaked. There's so much stuff a newbie could get wrong in the process that it's just far safer to get a hardware wallet.
7704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is best wallet for using and store the bitcoin? on: December 04, 2020, 06:47:46 AM
Mate, you've been here since 2019 and you're asking this just now?

But anyway. In my opinion:

BlueWallet[1] for bitcoin that currently doesn't amount to more than $500; or Electrum[2] if you prefer a desktop wallet(though I'd mostly suggest using a mobile wallet instead).

If were talking about upwards of $500, then either a Ledger[3], Trezor[4], or a Coldcard[5] hardware wallet.

7705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Different opinions about bitcoin on: December 04, 2020, 06:38:35 AM
Some people say bitcoin is like gambling (my answer: they have no understanding of bitcoin and the more empty the brain, the more open the mouth)

I'd say there's somewhat some truth to it. But people are forgetting that things aren't always binary.

It's not the case that:
  • Holding bitcoin = gambling
  • Not holding bitcoin = not gambling

It's just not that simple. Holding bitcoin being "too risky" completely depends on:

1. How much of your total capital is actually allocated to bitcoin?
2. Do you have enough fiat to spend for emergencies?
3. Can you actually afford price crashes?
4. Do you have any high interest loans you need to pay off?

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Though I'd argue that in today's day and age, it's actually more risky to not have bitcoin; even just a very small percentage of your net worth should be allocated imo.
7706  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CryptoForum.org on: December 04, 2020, 05:42:07 AM
Okay, when you want to start a business, you need a good domain name. Cryptoforum.org is really a good domain .com would be a better choice but since bitcointalk has an .org domain, it's logical.
Just wanted to add(because I'm a freakin nerd when it comes to SEO and these kinds of stuff):

a .org domain would actually sometimes be better for an online forum; "org" is truncated from the word "organization" in the first place. Though it really depends on what kind of look and feel OP has for CryptoForum. Imo, .org's are better for the Bitcointalk-ish traditional style of forums, while .com's would be better for the "trying-to-be-different" sort of style of forums like Reddit and Quora.

But really though, both could work and the advantages and disadvantages of a .com and .org forum wouldn't be THAT significant. It still boils down to management and if the forum actually takes off in the first place(because it's really difficult as fk to grow a forum on a decently established niche).

Another possibility would also be that the federal reserve would use bitcoin to back the value of the USD à la gold standard. While I think it's unlikely to happen, it's definitely not beyond the realms of possibility.
It is more related to stable coins or Tether USD minted amount, not gold. Stable coins are more favorite to use for buying bitcoin and altcoins. Fiat is not commonly used as stable coins. Will governments allow companies as Tether grows too big like that and especially from all law suits on them we saw?

Here's what I was referring to when I mentioned gold standard: https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/09/gold-standard.asp

As for stablecoins, you're probably forgetting that fiat(USD in particular) and stablecoins have the same value; so I don't get your "Fiat is not commonly used as stable coins" part.
7708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paypal BTC - Tread Carefully, If at All on: December 04, 2020, 05:27:01 AM
Not a fan of using Paypal but if the platform is not safe, their customers shouldn't be increasing in numbers over time. If their reputation is bad, then why merchants or online sellers still consider them? Potential decrease in sales? Then it means Paypal is strong despite those complaints. Merchants can easily get rid of them if the company is really worst.
Potential decrease in sales? More like a guaranteed decrease in sales. Zero doubt about that. And the reason why their customers are increasing is because they're heavily customer-sided. The heat is mostly from the merchants.

Chargeback is not risky unless the transaction involves crypto that's why it wasn't recommended to do a Paypal to Crypto via P2P before. Now that Paypal supports crypto, I don't know how a chargeback should apply. A chargeback is a common feature in the banking system and it has lots of advantages.
There's still risks of chargebacks even when dealing with physical items, just significantly less. PayPal have sided a lot with customers even when the customer is doing some shady crap like reporting a product damage and returning a different item.
7709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Gold Cannot Coexist, Says MicroStrategy CEO on: December 04, 2020, 05:10:34 AM
As much as I'm heavily into Bitcoin, I really never liked this Michael Saylor guy. You know those dudes that says stuff about Bitcoin as if it's the solution to literally everything and make bold statements as if Bitcoin is the 2nd coming of Christ? Yeap. Doesn't hurt to be really bullish but at some point some people could be really delusional.

Especially his quote: “When the Bitcoin Dragon emerges from its lair, the first thing it will eat is the Kingdom of Gold,”

I totally get his point, but eugh.
7710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paypal BTC - Tread Carefully, If at All on: December 04, 2020, 04:52:51 AM
Yea, even in the e-commerce community PayPal is also heavily hated due to their heavy favour towards the customer side even if the customer's reasoning is total bullocks. Unfortunately every online seller is forced to accept PayPal because not accepting PayPal probably decreases potential sales by approximately 15-20%. Can't wait for them to be replaced by something better.
7711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chances of BTC surpassing the value of Fiat Money on: December 04, 2020, 03:46:23 AM
It's theoretically possibly. But a better question is, how likely? I don't think the federal reserve would allow such thing to happen; and you could guarantee that they'd do anything for it to not happen.

Another possibility would also be that the federal reserve would use bitcoin to back the value of the USD à la gold standard. While I think it's unlikely to happen, it's definitely not beyond the realms of possibility.
7712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase or Circle or someone from them are Satoshi on: December 04, 2020, 03:41:37 AM
All stable coins are useless, and I cannot consider them cryptocurrencies, nothing more than digital coins, but rather worse than digital coins because digital coins are controlled by governments and they are guaranteed, unlike the stable cryptocurrencies that are supported by anonymous companies.
They're really not THAT useless though. They're decent for trading, and for sending non-KYC'd US dollars to some people. Though of course, it's definitely not something I would hold for longer amounts of time for obvious reasons.
7713  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] Beware Instagrammers on: December 03, 2020, 04:36:57 PM
Yea.. scam advertisers on the big social media sites(FB, IG, Twitter) isn't really anything new. I'm more surprised with how they're still actually trying knowing how publicly known that such scammers exist.

One dude was even trying to sell me a freakin mask.

7714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the actual all-time high, really? (re: LFC's bet with Bossian) on: December 03, 2020, 04:18:56 PM
I don't get why people make bets and don't pay up. It's less than 1000 USD at todays prices, which people make in less than a month of signature posting. Surely less than your honor is worth Wink

It's quite simple. Dude is anonymous, and since he just makes posts concerning trading anyway(haven't joined a campaign as it seems), some neg trust probably wouldn't hurt him assuming he/she continues using the same account.
7715  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CryptoForum.org on: December 03, 2020, 03:38:57 PM
What feature would you like to add to it?

Looking for your inputs and suggestions before starting this project.
My suggestion: Take a look around the Meta section, and take notes on what features people have been suggesting for Bitcointalk.

Hopefully you're not planning on competing against Bitcointalk though, because if you are, best of luck(you're gonna need it).
7716  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How does ChipMixer make money? on: December 03, 2020, 03:35:38 PM
first service is free and the next service with a better privacy is still free ? what about the third one .

im waiting for you to say that the second session with a better service are now going to be paid .
a one time free trial is not bad for a promotion  and they can easily gain the confidence of their costumers because the mixer existed for many years now but i heard before that chipmixer wasnt really free and thats how they make money  .

You totally misunderstood what he/she said. ChipMixer is totally free, and you only pay them how much you want to pay them. And yes, you could use their service as much as you want without paying them a single penny(but of course, it wouldn't hurt to support services that you like using).

7717  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies dont be Alone Here! Ill help you! on: December 03, 2020, 03:04:10 PM
Expert? Mate, just earlier today you were actually telling people to HODL a freakin stablecoin(USDC), and that Satoshi is someone from Coinbase/Circle. Get outta here. 🤣

My conclusion: hodle the USDC.
Satoshi= USDC creator or creators
7718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Buy 5 coins and wait till each of them grows 10%, then sell on: December 03, 2020, 08:55:57 AM
This "strategy" of yours will completely depend on if you can actually pick the right coins to buy; which is like 90% of the challenge. It might sound easy on the surface, but it's definitely going to be a lot harder than it seems.

If it went down, I still wait until it will go back up +10%. It's ok if it will take weeks.
Waiting weeks won't even be your problem as a lot of existing coins don't even go back up in price after crashing.
7719  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: is "bitwallet" real? on: December 03, 2020, 07:59:50 AM
It's probably a rhetorical question... but they don't "find" them. They shill their scam links here hoping for some google site rank points or whatever the fuck it's called these days.

Funnily enough though, though I'm definitely not saying that OP made this topic for nefarious reasons, a lot of the scam advertisers don't even URL tags hence it wouldn't even count as a backlink.
7720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase or Circle or someone from them are Satoshi on: December 03, 2020, 05:03:43 AM
Are you seriously advocating for hodling USDC, a stablecoin? You do realize it's no different than holding USD in your bank account, right?
