7721  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: August 29, 2021, 07:19:10 AM

7722  Economy / Economics / Re: What’s the nature of currency? on: August 29, 2021, 07:07:34 AM
There's not a problem with traditional centralized payment processors to the point where the world needs a decentralized immutable option.  To the extent the world wants one, there are currently better options than bitcoin due to bitcoin's consensus-based refusal to adapt.
Bitcoin is at the top of the pyramid. The community has put it there and they are keeping it there. It leads the race in market capitalization and trading volume, so people are obviously OK with what they get when they use bitcoin. If a time comes where the community decides to shift to something else or a majority of users abandon bitcoin for some other asset, the devs can ask themselves why that happened.
7723  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: August 29, 2021, 06:57:12 AM
Im still using the older version of ledger live as i haven't updated it in a few months because i remember people said you couldn't just click download update on the top right corner when you open ledger live and needed to go directly to ledger site to download the new ledger live update.
Why would that present a problem to you? You could have gotten the updates from the official site like everyone else.

Is this still true or not?   Before this, I always slick download update and then it updated to newest version of ledger ilve. When i open ledger live, i see message of Update to Ledger Live version 2.32.2. Can you just click on download update like I did back then... or do i need to go directly to ledger site to do it?
If the option to update through the app is available again and you can click on the button, just do it. There is no need to download it manually from the official site then.

Also I haven't connected my ledger live to my laptop in few months.
You mean Ledger Nano S. Ledger Live is a piece of software, your hardware wallet is called Nano S.

Is it fine to connect it to the laptop while still using the older version of ledger live?
Yes that's fine.

Also even though I never downloaded the newest version of ledger live... everytime i sign in ledger live, it does show synchronized in the top right corner.  So if you never updated never live but it does shown synchronize... your balance should always be correct right?
The app checks the blockchain for any new transactions that could have been made, that's why it's synching. It will do that from older versions of the app as well unless the team decides otherwise.

@jerry0
This thread is about how to verify the authenticity of Ledger Live. I would appreciate if you keep the discussions on topic. If you have other questions, make a new thread or post in one of your old ones.
7724  Other / Meta / Re: Here Is One Reason Why Legendary Members Get So Many Merits on: August 29, 2021, 06:39:45 AM
eh, the only reason why I send out merits there is when they help solve a problem I have, or offer a suggestion, or give me some helpful guidance (or maybe they developed some useful software).
You only merit people in those boards if they help you personally? What if they help other members or post something that can be of benefit to everyone, even those who don't seek help?
You are a merit source, so I guess you were joking with the statement above.
7725  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: August 29, 2021, 06:30:06 AM
Please add Trustdice to the list, they have a withdrawal fee based on the blockchain. So right now it's BTC0.00001994
I will take a look at them for the next update, thanks for the suggestion.

Withdrawal fee is still same at Bitsler. But they have reduced the min withdrawal limit to 0.0003 BTC.
Understood. OP updated with new minimum withdrawal amount.

I'm unable to login in my 2Crazy account. I have tried with different browser but always getting the same error message Probably there is something wrong at this casino. 2Crazy ANN thread has been cleared by the OP. And he set the title as ’deleted’.
That probably explains why I couldn't log in either or reset my password. Maybe the team has abandoned the project. The website is still online, so I will keep it in the OP for now. Maybe it will change ownership or become operational soon.

BTW, you can add Trustdice in the table which is suggested above by ‘Baskin198’. Trustdice casino is active in this forum. Their withdrawal fee is dynamic and min withdrawal limit is 0.001 BTC
Yeah, I will check them out soon.

This didn't take long. Page 3 of the collectible section.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5352777.0
I have to admit that I don't understand why this is allowed but altcoin giveaways aren't. The link actmyname posted with theymos' explanation didn't make it clear to me.

In this particular thread, the prize that can be won is 1 NFT token. The token itself uses the WAX network. WAX=altcoin.
The participants have to make a low effort post to guess the last character of the hash (incentivized posting + low effort spam posts). All this takes place outside of Games & Rounds and in a currency which is not BTC.

Someone explain to me what is the difference between this particular NFT giveaway and some other giveaways where users got banned for participating in them in exchange for LTC and some other coins in the past?

Just to make it clear. I have nothing against altcoin giveaways and I certainly don't want to see people get temporary banned for them. When LoyceV suggested allowing giveaways for established alts, I was in favor of that proposal. But they should either be allowed or not. Which one is it? The thread kryme posted could have maybe just been overlooked by the admins and in reality shouldn't be allowed either.
7727  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin from Electrum Wallet to Kraken lost on: August 28, 2021, 05:52:13 PM
A small alert would suffice, although I think it would be better if the wallet had an option for beginners and another for professionals as new people joining this technology have zero computer knowledge so everything seems complicated.
Even if they have computer knowledge and have worked with other software, they could be confused with the difference between "broadcast" and "save". Electrum gives you options to broadcast or save your transactions. If you are doing some work in Word or Photoshop, you save your work and you close the program. If you construct a transaction in Electrum and you save > exit the app, you haven't sent/broadcasted it. But like I mentioned before, the amount disappears from your total wallet balance and you are given a hash. But like ranochigo said, it's their responsibility to familiarize themselves with both Bitcoin and Electrum.
7728  Other / Meta / Here Is One Reason Why Legendary Members Get So Many Merits on: August 28, 2021, 05:39:33 PM
Oh God, another thread about merits? Yes! But I promise. This one will be a bit different.

Many times, we have heard the accusations: merit cycling clubs, merit gangs, legendary members giving merits to their legendary friends, etc.

I believe that Development & Technical Discussion and Bitcoin Technical Support are this forum's cream de la creme. These sub-forums are the sections where issues about the Bitcoin network are raised and solved. When users experience particular problems or have questions, the members in those subs take care of them.

But who are the users that help newbies and everyone else to solve problems?
More precisely, what rank to they belong to?
That is precisely the reason why I decided to create this thread. On 27 August, I took a screenshot of the two mentioned sub-boards to check what ranks are the members who reply to threads there.

I checked 5 threads in each section.
In the tables below, I have listed the titles of those threads. You can see the number of legendary users who have replied there. Besides that, I have written down the number of times a legendary user was the first to respond after a thread was created, and how many replies there were in total per thread.

What is the purpose of all this?

My hypothesis is that legendary members get so many merits because they are usually the first to reply and offer advice. They are the most frequent posters in the mentioned sub-forums, and their posts are simply the best ones.

Let’s now take a look at the stats and see if I am right or wrong:

In summary

These 10 threads had:

-   153 posts in total.
-   67 (or 43.79%) of those came from Legendary members.
-   Legendary members were the first to reply in 6 from the 10 checked threads.

This is just a small sample that shows that legendary members receive plenty of merits for a reason. So the next time you think how the world is unfair or that the powerful are only helping the powerful, remember this thread and try to improve and do better.

Kindly note that strict KYC requirement is when you have to confirm your: name + birthday + citizenship + phone + address (utility bill) + ZIP + payment method. And I guess you know that "no KYC" products most likely = scam.
No, not really. I have been gambling on sports on several other platforms and have never been asked to undergo any KYC nor have I been scammed by them. KYC does not equal a trustworthy platform. KYC means that an unknown person or group (that I don't trust) now has my private identity information. That information can be misused and sold. As long as that opportunity is there, I remain cautious. I am not saying your will do that, but you could, and that's enough for me. This forum and its community doesn't think much of KYC. If you want to increase your userbase, you should consider getting rid of it.
7731  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin from Electrum Wallet to Kraken lost on: August 28, 2021, 09:18:46 AM
A lot of confusion could be avoided if Electrum didn't display transaction IDs for unconfirmed transactions that are saved locally. Or at least if there was an option in the settings to display/hide them. I understand how someone new to Bitcoin would be confused by this. He saved the transaction, the balance was deducted, he has a transaction ID, but nothing was sent because it was never broadcasted (due to a fault of his own but still).
7732  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor shipping oddities on: August 28, 2021, 08:36:43 AM
Don't forget the restrictive measures due to COVID-19 either. They might not be operating at full capacity or some of their workforce could be in quarantine/unavailable, which causes delays in shipping and delivering the goods. If you used an official German reseller, you might have saved some time and money.

Nothing wrong with that but better option for me would be purchasing Trezor hardware wallet is some authorized reseller from local shop, you can pay with cash without using any of your personal information and you don't have to pay shipping fee or wait for delivery.
Shipping is free within the EU but he will have to pay VAT.
7733  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: nano s on: August 28, 2021, 08:22:52 AM
Or you might be talking about transferring them and use the backup seed from your Bitcoin wallet and import it to ledger nano?
If that's the case you won't be able to do that.
He can if the original wallet generated a BIP39 seed and if it uses the same derivation paths as Ledger does. But it's not recommended and it defeats the whole purpose of a seed created in a safe environment by a hardware wallet. His original seed probably belongs to a desktop/mobile wallet and is hot. It could have been stored digitally or saved in clouds, email, etc.

After he configures his Nano S, everything should be moved from his other wallet to a Nano S generated account if he wants to upgrade his security.
7734  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor wallet set up confusion on: August 28, 2021, 08:08:42 AM
I have my coins on Electrum at the moment and am happy, but wanted to get a cold wallet for added security*
Once you set up your new Trezor hardware wallet, you will need to move your coins from your Electrum software to an address on your Trezor. After that you can use Electrum as the software for sending and receiving bitcoin as DireWolfM14 explained.

2. As a newbie, I was surprised that there is no advice warning you if you should stay offline at any point when setting up all the password, seed and PIN information.
You don't need to and probably you can't because you need an internet connection to fire up the Trezor software. One of the benefits of hardware wallets is that you can use them even on computers that are infected with malware. Your private keys will remain safely stored on the device.

3. I know this seems weird, but there is no information on how to log out of Suite! Do you just click the x at the top right-hand of the screen?
I don't use Trezor, but I don't think it should be any different than when using Ledger Live or Electrum. You don't log out from those either, you just close the app. Ledger Live does have an automatic log out feature that logs you out automatically if the app is inactive for 10 minutes or more. Check the settings of your Trezor Suite, maybe they have something similar.
If your hardware wallet isn't connected and unlocked, you don't need to be concerned with having the Trezor software open. You have to sign all transactions manually by pressing buttons on the device. Without that, nothing works. If you share your computer with other people, they could see your portfolio if the app remains active. That's one concern.
7735  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: AirGap wallet- Self custody made simple and secure - Protect your crypto offline on: August 28, 2021, 07:46:45 AM
Problems with the camera freezing were reported 2 years ago as well. The recommendation back then from one of their team members on githubmemory was to force-close the application and start from scratch.

Here is how to reproduce and solve the issue as reported by the user who experienced the freezing issues:

Quote
How to reproduce:

Open AirGap Wallet (after killing the app or restarting phone)
Switch to 'Scanner' tab.
Camera blacked out, and the app freezes (the issue)
Tap Home button, then Overview button and open AirGap Wallet again.
Switch to 'Accounts' tab, and 'Scanner' tab again. Then the scanner works.
(The same happens with AirGap Vault) After the first camera activation, the problem doesn't repeat and the camera works.

7736  Economy / Economics / Re: What’s the nature of currency? on: August 28, 2021, 07:03:49 AM
Regardless of why, the inflexibility of bitcoin is why it's still a slow and clunky crypto and why it hasn't been able to incorporate improvements that other crypto's have introduced.
Bitcoin changes slowly, yes. But it's not going to change faster if it's threatening any of the main pillars that I mentioned above. Bitcoin changed to incorporate SegWit, we now have the Lightning Network, and soon we will have Taproot and Schnorr signatures.

When you talk about the improvements in altcoins, those changes can make them faster and cheaper, but to they make the networks more secure? Many altcoins have suffered 51% attacks and many others could be subjected to them with very little cost. Bitcoin doesn't do rollbacks, altcoins have. Bitcoin isn't centralized, many alts are + they are premined.
7737  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest as NFT on: August 28, 2021, 06:42:40 AM
If altcoin giveaways aren't allowed and NFTs are "altcoins" why does the collectible section get a pass on NFT giveaways and it's allowed there?
Selling a collectible or any other item or digital content is not a giveaway. I see no reason why NFTs shouldn't be allowed to be sold in the collectible sub-board. I haven't looked at the rules for that particular board, but my guess would be that BTC must be one of the payment methods the seller accepts + whatever else he is content with. Do you have examples of threads where they are being given away for free?

Unless you personally know both buyer and seller and are aware of their intentions you can't really claim this was a "purchase". In this transaction the buyer is actually anonymous which could be Nifty Gateway or the seller themselves trying to hype up their platform and get its name mentioned in the media.
True, but in that case you can say that about almost any transaction involving digital coins. That includes those made on gambling platforms, exchanges, etc. It could be just a way to create artificial traffic and attention or it could be legit users trading, exchanging, and withdrawing.

If you think that's bad, take a look at the history of Cryptopunks.

7739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin possibly become the Skynet of human civilization? on: August 27, 2021, 01:12:38 PM
Bitcoin actually has very limited functionalities. Even smart contracts in Ethereum or other alts aren't as smart as the name suggests. If programmed correctly, they can perform certain actions and that's it. They don't have the ability to evolve and change if such functions weren't programmed in the code.

We don't need Skynet or something similar to jeopardize our future. We are doing a pretty good job already by building robots that take over the jobs performed by humans for hundreds of years. Take a look at how autonomous the shipping industry has become. Nowadays you need one person capable of programming a robot to unload an entire ship. Thousands of physical workers lose their jobs to robots because of that.

Food delivery is being tested efficiently with drones in certain countries. Again, thousands of people are losing their jobs. People only look at the good sides of technology, but they forget that not everyone can be a software developer. The world also needs manual labor, garbage men, and shoe shiners.

We are the Skynet...

Same old, same old :  i have infected all your devices, you have been watching porn, you're a naughty boy, don't contact the police, blah blah blah... Roll Eyes
There was no attached file, simply the mail...
The worst thing that can happen is that you run into some ransomware that encrypts all your files and you have to pay a fee for them to be unlocked. If that was the case, you would know about it. Your devices aren't infected, it's just scare tactics. Unless you downloaded something before you received the email that could have infected you, there is nothing to worry about. You can ask the scammer if he can recommend some good porn sites based on the content he knows you have watched so far Grin

anyway, when you say "signal" do you mean trace who it is belonged to?
He probably meant that he wanted to report it to someone. As SFR10 mentioned earlier, that address has already been reported multiple times for fraudulent activities. That's all you can do about it.
