All seems well!

https://btc.com/084eca4ba5720e10fb0bab6ffe58473515d865c060a960aec6156f7b8b2e889c

It's at least in Bitmain's mempool so it should get confirmed shortly.
7722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: HELP!Unplugged hard drive with bitcoin core 0.16.1 by mistake during transaction on: July 16, 2018, 09:48:51 PM
Now, i have a backup of the wallet, although it was from from 1 or 2 transactions back, before i sent this very last one of about 30 minutes ago.

What is the best thing to do or did i really lose most of my coins?
0. Close off Bitcoin Core
1. Rename (never delete!) your wallet.dat to wallet.dat.backup
2. Copy (keep your backup!) the backup wallet.dat to your Bitcoin Core directory
3. Start Bitcoin Core

thanks bro, actually as I was reading your reply, I checked bitcoin core and the balance is restored as it should be and last transaction is "Status: 0/unconfirmed, in memory pool". - haven't done anything -

am I safe you think?

thanks,
Gabrio

Yes probably, just let it catch up with the blockchain. Is it resyncing now? Was the transaction vonfirmed before, can you post the txid if you're not sure?
7723  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are not the only issue on Bitcointalk! on: July 16, 2018, 05:59:49 PM

Calling out noobs and having an issue with them because they're starting later then the rest of us doesn't really sound like a healthy attitude does it?

No, is not. Sometimes I've done it by myself (not calling someone a noob, but yes, some of them are so desperate to get merits that it makes me feel uncomfortable with them).
I think the forum is now in a bad shape and, also, one can have a bad day. Sometimes I got lost in between so many crappy posts that, by the moment I quote one, I'm not in the best mood. Of course this my fault only, but, well, it is a social place, so this kind of things happens.

But, yes, I do feel that encouraging is far better than insulting, but you know, sometimes it is not possible. Huh

I agree a lot with that.
I'm up for giving people a chance, not giving them a free ride here. If they don't learn and keep talking nonsense after a while of being here, they're probably not worth keeping here.

The issue is becoming that people just pick on newbies and they leave (even if they have enthusiasm in Bitcoin), this isn't something we want to promote here.

The confrontation thing also, there are a lot of people here from many different backgrounds so there are obviously going to be clashes in how people do stuff. (like the apparent issue with people putting "sir" in their messages)

Mostly altcoins are the issue, if we got rid of the altcoin section and moved it to a sister forum (altcointalk.org) we would probably see quite a reduction in spam.
If you mean the altcoin section of bitcointalk, I would disagree with you.  Those other sections I mentioned are just as bad as Altcoin Discussion.  I don't include the tokens or bounties sections in my assessment, as it's all spam there.
Exactly my point.
Most of the people I see looking for merits, if you look at their post history you'll see the majority of the last 20 posts were in the altcoin boards (I say the last page because I generally fall asleep before going to the next page).

You say everyone is to blame for the shitposting situation, and I would argue that there's mostly a problem at the top.  There's a tolerance of this crap because it brings traffic and some people think that people spamming for signature campaigns is healthy to the crypto economy.  That's why OGNasty excluded me from his trust list--he thought I was somehow bullying noob shitposters.  So that's what you get when someone tries to do something about it.  If you recall in December and January, Meta was filled with people complaining about the tags actmyname and I were leaving for shitposters.  It's not as though we were standing around and accepting the deterioration of the forum.
I'm probably of the same opinion. If we keep them quarenteened in the bitcoin discussion section and meanwhile have actual discussions in serious discussion then the forum gets more revenue from its ads as they get more views on the forum.
A lot of spam megathreads gets noticed and closed quite often also on those boards.

My overly cynical take on newbies like OP who make suggestions about how the ranking system should be improved is that they're either 1) alt accounts looking for merits, or 2) just looking for merits.  Yes, I could be totally wrong but having seen so much of it since January, I've come to expect this sort of thing.  Before then, there weren't that many low-ranked members posting in Meta, since they were all too busy shitposting for their bounties.  Now that they need merits to rank up and earn more money, they've figured out where the merits are being given out (Meta is a big section if I'm not mistaken) and also which merit-source opinions to agree.

I'd say for the low level knowledge meta is the place to be to get merits. If you want merits and you have actual things to discuss with some knowledge behind them, the technical boards are more where there is merit available.
Merit sources are mostly around the meta section also as that's how they apply to be merit sources in the first place, I personally try to make attempts to avoid meta but I like to be on the forum and there doesn't seem to be as many people to help in the technical boards anymore (not sure whether that's good or bad).
7724  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are not the only issue on Bitcointalk! on: July 16, 2018, 05:28:14 PM
Yeah, that was me.  Assuming you're not someone's alt account and haven't been here longer than it appears, you'll realize that noobs ARE the problem.
They're veterans, not noobs. They've been spamming here for the past few months now to try and get some sort of merit.
I'm going to be honest and say, to me, almost everyone here is the cause of the problem. There are bystanders who do nothing about it, and people who actively spam that fill the boards.
Mostly altcoins are the issue, if we got rid of the altcoin section and moved it to a sister forum (altcointalk.org) we would probably see quite a reduction in spam.

Check out the Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion, or Economics sections and see how many idiotic nonsense posts are being made, and take note of the rank of the members making them.
What brought them here though, have we managed to work that out yet?

Check out how many merit threads are being made in Meta, usually by relatively new members.  These are veiled attempts to earn merit, because they think that if a merit source or an older member with merits to give agrees with them, they'll merit the post.
And we still don't get a separate section for merit so we can just ignore it...

Calling out noobs and having an issue with them because they're starting later then the rest of us doesn't really sound like a healthy attitude does it?

Who is the escrow?

I'm guessing that that is something that you would negotiate on with the OP (although I assume any trusted or high ranked member would probably do for the fairly small amount and simple transaction).
7726  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unable to upgrade Electrum 3.2.2 from 3.1.3 on Ubuntu 14.0.4 / VirtualBox on: July 16, 2018, 02:35:20 PM
Thats literally all you have to do.

I understand that it's difficult for many people, including myself, to keep track of all posts and the possible variety of solutions suggested within a single thread, but as said earlier (and quoted by yourself), I'm only able to try one thing at a time.

Quote
But you might consider using windows instead of linux. You seem to be extremely lost.
A better OS doesn't secure you more if you don't know how to handle it. In your case a windows setup should be more suitable.

Now, let me try not to be too naughty. I've worked with Ataris, then Macs (when Atari went down the drain, partly for being too good at what they were doing) since the mid-80's. My partner worked with DOS since the early 80's, then moved to Macs too. I have used the Mac GUI of Electrum until the programmers decided not to support my OS any longer, some 3 years ago or so. Some people may be in a position to change computer and OS each and every time someone at Apple thinks it's funny (I doubt anybody in their right mind might think it's good business) to stop supporting a two-year old system, but, fortunately or not, that's not my case. So in 2015 I believe, if I didn't want to let my precious BTCs go into oblivion, I was forced into finding a solution. Which was installing Electrum on a VirtualBox image dedicated specifically to that: giving me access to my BTC wallet by running Electrum. In three years, I've never had a serious problem until now.

Like it or not, that's my real world. But, pardon me — did you say… Windoze Huh — like… you'd want me to buy a Wz machine and learn to use that crappy interface? A bit hilarious, I must say.

Incidentally, each and every time I need to pay out some BTCs I could ask my grandchild, who has Electrum 3.2.2 running on a Mac with Sierra. Not quite practical, though. Getting some sensible suggestions from sensible people on a discussion board like this one seems sounds like a much better idea, to me at least.

I don't get this habit of using virtualbox also. If you're running linux, virtual box is just going to slow you down isn't it?

Also, you could move to this directory "/home/~/.cache/pip/" and run ls -l to check its permissions and/or if the directory exists, however, not having cache on pip probably isn't too much of a problem.

If electrum runs now then you're good though.
7727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Need 0.03 ETH for gas. Back 0.06 in 15 minutes on: July 16, 2018, 12:35:56 PM
The problem of some ERC20 tokens is that it requires gas to send the token to the exchange, which I presume is the situation of our OP. He cannot sell the tokens to ETH beause he needs ETH to sell the tokens

On Idex. I have tokens but no ETH. I have sent to a PM. Please check
Afaik idex is an exchange?

Convert them to ETH then!?

I've got out of the Multiply BTC bonus a few times with a 25x rollover requirement. I don't like using the low multiplier strategy for this, I'd rather just bet normally. Trying lots of low multiplier bets just reduces the probability of variance being in your favour. The higher the number of bets the closer to the expected value you get. That's the same reason bots and scripts reduce your chances. I prefer to make fewer larger bets.
I'm a bit confused with your technique, is it avoid low multiplier and make fewer larger bets?
wouldn't that (there's a chance) make you lost big amount if got hit by bad long losing streak
so are you saying betting normally with 2x multiplier would be better?
why betting higher amount with low multiplier wouldn't work the same? (towards 25x rollover)
is it because the return too small to cover the losses?

At the end of the day it's based on luck.
I just did my 1.01x on about 50 bets and managed to lose three of them.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, I made close to 250 bets and only lost once.
I usually try to martingale at 2x starting low (around 8 sats) but even then you lose quite a bit and if you win, you only get an extra 8/34 sats (depending on the strategy).
7730  Economy / Lending / Re: Want to borrow BTC for exchange listing. on: July 15, 2018, 09:18:29 PM
Why would you ever start an ICO without budgeting for it properly?

Hi, The collateral coin is a different coin than our own coin. The collateral coin currently valued $ 1.60USD  per coin, and 12000 of it. and its currently in stake which will be unlocked not so soon yet. The collateral is that you will have access towards the wallet with password everything.

For 1.88BTC you will get our X coin and liquidate it within hours after we listed and get a return as well.

I refuse to state our coin first unless through telegram DM due to i do not want to tarnish our reputation of our ICO. Its a mistake of our own that causes this issue towards this day, but we are so close to listing.

What are the two exchanges you need your coin listing on?
And doesn't that call for a race as soon as the timelock is finished to see who can pay the most in fees to get their transaction confirmed the fastest?
7731  Other / Meta / Re: Limit to new accounts every month on: July 15, 2018, 03:25:59 PM
I can see theymos implementing this, right after KYC for the forum but not until hell freezes over.
What did you imply by mentioning about 'KYC for the forum'?
Can you explain a little bit more about this idea, please.

I have not heard anyone stated about this.

KYC is a "know your cleints"/"know your customers" and means that every user would have to provide ID documents before they could use the site - something we definitely don't want here.

Reading isnt the problem bub,  it's lack of actually using

That's why everything you say is wrong.

And now we know...

@broken, what happened to the youtube live stream, why switch sites?

@TheQuin, then I'd have to bother go finding his thread, I don't see an advert for it in his sig?
7733  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Contest with $30,000 in GUARANTEED PRIZES now live! on: July 15, 2018, 12:22:02 AM
At least 4 first place winners have come forward and posted about in this and other threads.

Thats it?  Out of how many weeks?  52wks/year for 5yrs and only 4 have posted here?  WTF.  Those kinda odds could rival the odds of winning the lottery to begin with haha.

Lottery has only been there for about a year or two.

Not every user registere there knows ofr thei forum. Not every user will post here (I probably wouldn't) if they win...
7734  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcointalk community must take responsibility concerning scam ICO on: July 14, 2018, 05:11:20 PM
I mean we are a bitcoin forum, why can't we root for bitcoin and just move altcoins elsewhere.

I mean the forum has ruled against ICOs in its advertising and for that, the advertising of other currencies that aren't decentralised. I believe the owners of a coin should keep maybe 1-5% of a premine and have enough faith in their coin to be able to release it and get a nice amount of profit from it.
7735  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Contest with $30,000 in GUARANTEED PRIZES now live! on: July 14, 2018, 05:02:19 PM
I know that luck plays a role in  every lottery system, but in year you do not have any chance? Not even in top 10 once? This is kind of weird thing, and I still doubt if any of the free players can be part of the lottery works. You can see each week there is always a winners but yet no one ever claimed that they are winning the prize. May be some explanation from thequin might help here

There's an easy explanation - you're factually incorrect.

Last week the 3rd place winner had only 70 tickets so I suspect they were gained free.

At least 4 first place winners have come forward and posted about in this and other threads.

Yes there have been people who have claimed to have won on the lottery.
I still think it's fixed until I win Grin Joke

The highest wagerer is currently at 70BTC, that's higher then I'd have expected. I was going to put in 0.1BTC and get a bot running to gamble with 0.001BTC and see how high I could get (with 0.01 odds) but that seems a bit dishonest - though theres still an equal chance to gaining and losing the same amount. I'm not sure if anyone's done this though (there's probably a slim chance you'll get profit from it or your betting will at least last a bit longer on the site).

And only halfway through the month. The race for second has been hotting up a bit this week as well. I still wouldn't be surprised to see a really big high roller come in and take it though.
I can imagine we'll find a whale who will get 200BTC wagered there yet in the next few weeks.
7736  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Contest with $30,000 in GUARANTEED PRIZES now live! on: July 14, 2018, 04:28:03 PM
He has access to everything that we have on the site though so either knowing how much he has or his identity?

I guess this is just a matter of personal belief. I strongly believe that the right to be anonymous and the right to privacy of your financial affairs are a very fundamental part of what Bitcoin is all about.

I have investments in other sites that the owners equally anonymous but I have trust in them because of their actions and the reputation they have built up over the years. When wetsuit asked me to represent the site I didn't hesitate to put my reputation on the line for the same reason.

You can make your own decisions based on your beliefs and opinions.

Yeah, probably a good idea.

7737  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Forum Statistics on: July 14, 2018, 04:23:11 PM
Also, some stats were available on Bitcointalk Public information project (BPIP) http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/
Currently this website isn't available, but according to message on website Vod are planning to launch new version soon.

The domain name is being changed also for vod's site.

Global forum stats are available on the forum stats page (which has recently been reenabled). It might go back down again though if Theymos considers the servers to be too unstable.

Fix the quote, don't make me part of the argument, I wouldn't be arguing on you side in this instance.

Done. Sorry about that I hit the Edit button instead of the Quote button and your quote was the first line in that post.
Cheers!

So I have my chipmixer address with 0.394BTC. Another cold storage with 0.125BTC in it and 0.1 in Hashnest? Anything else you want to chuck a stick at and get the right answer to?

I'm trying to point out that it is an individual's right to decide for themselves if they want to make public what they own.

7739  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Contest with $30,000 in GUARANTEED PRIZES now live! on: July 14, 2018, 03:33:59 PM

That's the address that we sweep the deposits to. There are a lot more addresses.

How do you have?
So I have my chipmixer address with 0.394BTC. Another cold storage with 0.125BTC in it and 0.1 in Hashnest? Anything else you want to chuck a stick at and get the right answer to?

I'm fairly sure coinbase filed their UK tax return a few years ago and claimed to hold £3000000. If you secure your money well enough then you're fine.

It's a lot easier to do with a large organisation. As an example Bitfinex user a 4 from 7 multsig system with staff in diverse geographical locations.

And if you properly encrypt stuff and keep it secure enough then it shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

That's just based on his weakness though.
If you're strong enough or have a strong resistance to drugs then you're alright.

IDK what you are reading but from where I am sitting I do not see an address.  A country listing isnt an address and the last update to the whois record was literally just a few months ago in jan.  All I see is a domaain pointing at cloudflare and registered from enom with an update to change the registrant country and either town or county.  There is certainly no address there like you claimed.

I didn't claim there was a full address. I said I found it when I was searching ages ago. Read again:

It's nothing new. If you do a whois lookup of the domain it tells you it is registered in Tortola, VG. I can't remember where I found it now but I found that address when I searched for it years ago.

You should learn English and/or to read before calling me a liar.

The domain isn't 'pointing at Cloudflare' it's nameserver is hosted by Cloudflare. That has nothing to do with registration or ownership of the domain. As always you are keen to talk about things you have no knowledge of.
Fix the quote, don't make me part of the argument, I wouldn't be arguing on you side in this instance.

I have 0.0014 in coinbase also and 0.01 on yobit.net.
7740  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum "cant read wallet"s salvaged from linux machine on: July 14, 2018, 12:29:57 PM
this error is most probably happening because there is some sort of corruption in your wallet file that you are trying to import.
if you haven't encrypted the wallet file or partially encrypted it then you can open it with any text editor (like notepad in windows) and see its content including your seed and private keys (in case it is not a multi-sig wallet). in case of partial encryption the private keys/seed will be encrypted.
by looking at the file you may be able to gain more information about what the problem is, it should look like a clear JSON object.

Read the OP again? How can a wallet be corrupted and still be openable in an older version of electrum.
There is no corruption in wallets (95% of them are like that). They work in original client I was able to run. Thanks for the tips, I will try them out today
Try upgrading to 2.2.3 first and see if that fixes anything?

If not, you may have to restore all of the wallets by using their master private key or seed.
