7781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Russia, Philippines, Indonesia and India support crypto the most on: June 25, 2019, 12:59:11 AM
Philippines, there are a lot of adoption going on in the community side of things. As for the government, they remain neutral in the talks of accepting bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies officially on the land, making it somewhat a hard move to own a lot of them and trading with fiat knowing that at any second, they can seize your assets in connection through fraud and money laundering. Also, most of these countries aren't really developing any framework and platforms for cryptocurrencies but are rather participating mostly on airdrops and bounties, making them somewhat on the receiving side of things and not really on the creation side of everything for crypto, and there's a huge difference with that.
7782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's huge carbon footprint - deal breaker on: June 24, 2019, 03:37:36 PM
Some points have gone amiss on the said article, and I wouldn't buy that really. Again, a significant number of mining farms are located and China, most of which are perusing hydroelectric power that contributes to carbon emissions by little to none. Anyway, if most really are environmentalists in here then why wouldn't anyone propose a carbon sink in line with lowering CO2 emissions? The problem here is not regarding environment really, because if it is then governments would not allow developers to buy mountainous lands with lots of trees only to be converted into industrialized areas which then produces CO2 because fuck the earth, right?

Or better, why not electric companies harness renewables? Oh right, burning coal and fossil fuels has always been cheaper and produces more profit.
7783  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Linux OS for a new user on: June 23, 2019, 11:22:05 PM
Linux is miles ahead better in security and privacy, that is if you know what you're actually doing and not just installing things and executing random commands you see on the internet. It also is less-resource hungry compared to Windows, so you're sure that your hardware would run pretty much fine and always at optimum and efficient condition depending on the activity. Put it this way, Linux distros are pretty much different flavors of Linux, suitable to each user's taste. Now it's up to you on how would you build your OS up and how would you like it to run, whereas Windows 10 is a pre-made OS with the 'essentials' that you need though there are some features that a user doesn't really need but they still placed it there anyway, causing those to hog up on your resources.

As for distros, I use Ubuntu most of the time, though Arch and Fedora caught my attention for a while as well.
7784  Economy / Economics / Re: ASIAN CRYPTO FRIENDLY COUNTRIES on: June 23, 2019, 09:44:38 PM
The Philippines is also a country in ASIA that is friendly to Bitcoin, this country is very accepting of the presence of Bitcoin.  The community there also used to use Bitcoin as a transaction tool every day.

I won't go so far as calling it friendly, but there certainly is a lot of developments happening on crypto lately on the community side of things. As for the government though, there hasn't been any strict rules and regulations apart from the constant warnings the Central Bank has been issuing since 2017. With the rise of fake MLMs and HYIPs in the said country, I'm pretty sure they would be issuing yet another memo regarding cryptocurrencies anytime soon.
7785  Economy / Speculation / Re: We hit 11k what comes next ? on: June 23, 2019, 09:06:06 PM
We are still trying hard to get a stable footing @ $11k, though once we have passed $11300 which is one of the resistance that we have along the way, we could easily climb up to $12k - $13k without a hitch. I see a lot of huge buy orders @ $10k ranges and it's still possible for us to retrace to those levels once we exceeded $12k, although at the current pace of the market, it will take a while before we see any correction. For the mean time, reap the rewards and enjoy the blast while it lasts. You'll never know when will an asshole of a whale would disrupt the market tempo.
7786  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.com scam - lost funds on: June 23, 2019, 08:12:16 PM
You are not the first one to complain about such activities happening with their account. I've encountered similar stories albeit different scenarios, all of which lead to lost funds. That's why I never trusted the site anymore since 2015 after knowing about the multitude of complaints regarding the said wallet service. I wonder if blockchain.com would really listen to your appeal since I don't remember anything about them responding to such complaints.
7787  Economy / Economics / Re: Hong kong and China war can lead to possible Bitcoin popularity on: June 21, 2019, 11:07:29 PM
The reason you gave here is not enough to convince people in those countries to make use of cryptocurrency. And FYI China has banned Bitcoin for good and I don't think they are going to be accepting it any longer and if they do its going to be under regulation (oh, what am I saying… Bitcoin can't be regulated right? That means they are not going to accept anyone making use of it. That's why a lot of crypto companies are moving out from china and moving to other countries where they will be allowed to continue their crypto business. Let's wait and see what the future holds.

They have been doing so for the past 4 years, and believe me, from all the bans they have issued against bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, the Chinese crypto community is still one of the largest in the world. The recent bans that they issued were all focused on mining due to environmental concerns and does not tell anything regarding trading, holding or keeping the said crypto. Business as usual for the Chinese people even though their government tells them not to.
7788  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ponzi scheme Fraud on: June 21, 2019, 10:15:59 PM
I'm not entirely sure how would you accomplish such a thing knowing that the whole crypto economy is a huge ecosystem. It's just a waste of resources really, and your effort together with your time could be directed into some other projects that could be beneficial to you and to the community. It's a noble thought but rather a dire effort to save this community from such doings. It couldn't be prevented, and all we can do is to just educate people on how to spot and avoid ponzi schemes/fraudulent activities for them to be safe.
7789  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WARNING! to all VLC player users! Stop using VLC and update it now!! on: June 21, 2019, 09:26:40 PM

With more than 3 billion downloads, VLC is a hugely popular open-source media player software that is currently being used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide on all major platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, as well as Android and iOS mobile platforms.

Was about to ask which operating systems are compromised/vulnerable to the said vector until I read this. Good thing I let the automatic updates run on my PC earlier this morning before I go and took a run.

Quote
Though the proof-of-concepts demonstrated by both researchers cause a crash, a potential attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities to achieve arbitrary code execution with the same privileges as of the target user on the system.

Just a question though, would the attack be similar to that exploit found on Mozilla browsers a while ago? Not really much into cybersec but would the vulnerability be dormant, or just lay down there until I play a certain type of video associated to the exploit? Kinda curious and want to know more, it wasn't stated anywhere in the article.

7790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the use of positive or negative trust in this(bitcointalk) platform on: June 21, 2019, 07:30:21 PM
Might I add that one person with a lot of positive feedback/trust rating on his/her profile does not mean that he/she cannot go rouge and turn his/her backs on people who trusted them. Say for example, a classic one is TradeFortress who was a well-known member of this group until such time that he decided to scam people off of their BTC. Also, trust ratings can also be used to harass someone if a certain group of members doesn't like one particular person. I won't drop names but trust rating on this forum still shouldn't be enough reason for you to trust someone on the internet blindly.
7791  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes on crypto on: June 21, 2019, 06:22:48 PM
In the country I'm currently staying at, the government hasn't come into full agreement on whether they are going to tax cryptocurrencies or not. But anyway, I'm inclined to believe that crypto profits can be categorized on the same category where capital gains lie, and for most countries where crypto regulations and taxation are already in place, this is what they follow, too. But then again, this is still somewhat a vague topic not unless countries officially release a framework in taxation for cryptocurrencies.
7792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO of Bank of America: “We Want a Cashless Society” on: June 21, 2019, 04:09:51 PM
A banker with actually good intentions for crypto? This seems to be new in my books, although I must say that he is correct. Most things are already digitized, and if cash were to follow next then I guess we're on the right direction already, starting from Paypal up to cryptocurrencies. Good thing one with enough reason and is sane enough to know that there are always two sides of a coin--even if belonging to the group bitcoin despises most--speaks the truth and not just all bias just to support their organization.

Ironically I'm finding it harder to pay by credit card at the moment. Several of the systems seem to fail regularly, and many smaller shops and cafes are starting to become cash only. They state that Visa charges are too high.

Yes, it happens every so often, and that, I think, is where bitcoin and cryptocurrencies might come in handy if you don't have those cash with you at all times.
7793  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Decrypting Crypto on: June 21, 2019, 01:46:44 PM
It's a sad reality that we have to make these awful compromises just to ensure that we won't have any problems in dealing with cryptocurrencies and other stuff that doesn't go along/well with the regulations the government has. It's like we are still continuously being dictated indirectly by these pricks, and we gladly comply just so we don't get punished.

If you spot suspicious transaction what you can do to reverse it back?

Report it, perhaps, or do your duty (lol) to mind your own business and not meddle with other people's transactions because you'll never discern what transactions are legit and what are not in the first time you see it.

In my knowledge blockchain transaction will never be reversed unless and until destination address wanna send it back to the depositor! If you want to create any cryptocurrency it is not at all possible option for you crypto is to secure the transaction with just p2p technology.

It cannot be reversed, yes, and that's the beauty and bane of cryptocurrencies IMO. Once it's done, it's done, and one cannot give back the money that was sent if it was for the good or for the bad. It's a double-edged sword, but it has worked well for the past 10 years.
7794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto Apparent Author of Two Upcoming Books on Amazon on: June 21, 2019, 12:57:01 PM
Seems like everyone wants to take a bite of the Satoshi craze and milk some penny off of it. I won't find it surprising if a lot of claims to be Satoshi spring out of nowhere in the latter part of 2019 when bitcoin's price has gone full blown for people to use it to ruse people off of their money. Well one guy is an outstanding fail in impersonating the true Satoshi and even made it to headlines and hopefully, in courts for his legal misadventures and whatnot (hi CSW). I just hope most of them end up there.
7795  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 is around the corner on: June 21, 2019, 08:36:45 AM
I expect some sort of correction after briefly reaching $10,000 so it might actually be a longer time before we can sit comfortably on that said price range. Resistance @ $9800 is still holding strong up to this point even though we have been inching nearer and nearer to 5 digits every single trading day. Perhaps once the Western lads start their day by noon, we can expect more crazy pushes and hopefully $10,000 but for now, it'll just sit there and lay idly on the sidelines. Volumes on exchanges are pretty good too, positively confirming that $10000 is doable within the next few days.

If there'd be no manipulation whatsoever in the next days to come, breaking $10000 is easy, but expect a correction thereafter.
7796  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Says- If Bitcoin Breaks 100k you can bet it will break a million on: June 21, 2019, 07:16:38 AM
He's being exaggerated about it knowing that there is still a $900k gap between the two figures he mentioned. I wouldn't buy what this guy is saying anymore knowing that he even pulled out the bet the he made that in 2020, he would cut his dick off if bitcoin's price doesn't reach $1M. His recently launched platform is also a massive failure and if that doesn't make you change your mind about how this dude's mind operate then I don't know what will.
7797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Malaysia approves crypto exchange registration on: June 21, 2019, 05:59:11 AM
Either way, different territories have different laws, and I don't think the size of the two countries have anything to do with it. The better question would be "why is the US clamping down so hard", and that I have no answers for lol.

The US knows that it can bully anyone by trying to wave their dicks in front of other countries by coming down hard by means of regulations or by imposing ridiculous and unfair trade bans against other countries that might benefit a lot from them. They are fighting a losing battle when it comes to business interests since people who are affected by said sanctions could just take their business elsewhere wherein they can feel welcome anytime and expand their business without having to worry about strict regulations.

As for the exchange in Malaysia, it's about time that they also appear and expand knowing that the crypto scene in SEA is ever-growing, and this should be the start of something fruitful for the cryptomarket especially for the people of Malaysia.
7798  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Regulator Accuses Head of Defunct British BTC Company $147 Mil Fraud on: June 21, 2019, 02:33:49 AM
This is actually not cryptos doing but gullible people allowing other people to get their money off of their hands in hopes of handsome returns in a short span of time. This is nothing new, and also nothing to be proud of as well. As long as there are people willing to be scammed/robbed off of their money, problems like this wouldn't end no matter how many regulations they put in place to combat these kinds of activities.

Should be 22k btc and not 22-M as stated on the article as that would totally be over the 21-M hard cap of the supply, anyway.
7799  Economy / Economics / Re: What are some not so obvious things that damage a country's economy? on: June 21, 2019, 01:30:55 AM
Disengagement of the youth from education and other meaningful activities that could soon be detrimental to the development of the country. This is not something that happens overnight but I know for a fact that this could lead to a country's damaged economy and stability if left unchecked as the youth will be the next ones carrying the torch for the future generations to come. Time is not maximized and use efficiently, no new skills are learned and overall no experienced is gained by these young ones therefore further disengaging them from the happenings in the society.
7800  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Russia Might Adopt Crypto Regulations within two weeks on: June 21, 2019, 01:17:59 AM
Actually last year 2018 Russian prime minister putin shared the adoption over blockchain based business.
So this news is not a new one to discuss it further. Let's believe this time it will become truth. Due to this effect we can expect the bitcoins and altcoins to grow bigger when it has been accepted.

Nowadays though, crypto and the blockchain are two separate entities already so I doubt that there's that much similarity between the two events. Anyway, I doubt that this would have some large effect on the ecosystem though, but we can expect that there would be some Russian contenders on the block that will have their own services, exchanges etc. and they would not be afraid of prosecution finally. The scene is expanding, and it is realized through governments accepting legislation with a pretty fair compromise.
