781  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Announcing BPIP - The Bitcointalk Public Information Project! on: October 11, 2018, 08:46:19 AM

i tried to track down the account based on those kind of information once, but then realized there is no certainty about being correct either, they could be leading to a complete legit account. The only way to be sure they are selling a specific account is when they are handing it over.  Undecided
782  Local / Accuse scam/truffe / Re: Tentato furto di identità su bounty program on: October 11, 2018, 06:29:54 AM

I didn't follow the latest development with the new forum, but as i last heard, it was stopped due to some problem between theymos and the developers. I see there is again some activity in github now https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk/pull/458, is the development continuing ?
784  Other / Meta / Re: [Beta] @mention notification bot open for testing - now with Telegram on: October 11, 2018, 05:51:40 AM
I made few more fixes, including the self quote triggering a notification, but mainly to allow it to run with mono.
We still need another round of testing since is now running on a virtual machine in Linux, so i will keep it up as long as possible today and possibly during the whole week end as well.

If everything goes fine we are very close to a stable release which could run 24/7.

Upon some additional analysis, I think that the cost (or benefit) of that stability is hidden in the Eth deposit required to emit the DAI. If you sell DAI you have blocked ETH and that rises and lowers in price continuously respect to the dollar.

I have read the Medium article, but I would appreciate if someone could link a good explanation.

It seems to be rather complex, or at least i don't understand all of it, but reading a bit more i found out this part in the whitepaper where they are talking about external actors and the Maker token ecosystem, which is designed to oversee and keep the price of DAI stable.

To put it very simple, there is a consensus system where is decided the exchange ratio dai / eth to feed the smart contracts in order to keep the price at 1$, by partecipant you get some incentive in MKR(maker) tokens.

If i remember correctly, i may have read somewhere the archived accounts are on the order of some x00k, but still i would need an offline list with the userid to exclude directly.  Undecided

I think Vod is probably looking at the last time a user had logged to define if he/she is active/inactive.

I was thinking, if exists somewhere a list of public proxies which actually work, i could cut down the time quite significantly. I imagine the server can handle many request per second, but i would not want to make a mess  Smiley
790  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to accept crypto coins on my website on: October 10, 2018, 07:10:55 AM
Just wondering, wouldn't be the cheaper to code a rather simple solution like this:

  • generate a new receiving address for the customer, which he can use to pay (the private key can be hashed and stored)
  • have a background process in the server which checks the amount paid received enough confirmations
  • send payment confirmation to the customer

Or there is some problem with it / not so easy as it seems?

A lot of third party sites keep your private keys and charge you fees. I would recommend that you set up a virtual machine with btcPayServer yourself.
Check it out here:

https://github.com/btcpayserver/btcpayserver

Its open source, it's free, you hold your own private keys (can use a hardware wallet and just set the xpub exported from trezor for example).
It also support the lightning network.

You can deploy it on azure with just one click here:

https://github.com/btcpayserver/btcpayserver-doc/blob/master/AzureDeployment.md

Don't let anyone else handle your payments or private keys!

well, this seems to be something quite a neat solution
791  Local / Alt-Currencies (Italiano) / Re: DAI - Stablecoin decentralizzata - Cos'è e come funziona on: October 10, 2018, 06:41:44 AM

792  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: La criptovaluta della Juventus on: October 10, 2018, 06:34:10 AM

793  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: [INFO] +MERIT.

Adesso capisco come mai: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5046687.0

The situation with shit threads is only going to get worse. They are adapting and just posting worthless shit in here now, its a shame as meta will go downhill very quickly if we do not try to counteract it.
I am as guilty as anyone else and a large % of my merits get handed out here, But if we don't want meta to turn into a cesspit then I think we need to make a preemptive strike.

I would suggest that all the merit sources put a hold on giving merits in meta for a while, I know it will be hard as there is a ton of quality posts in here (mainly from Higher ranks). I personally think that a few of us should make the effort to be more active in the beginners sub if we tried it for a month or two and made the merit rain there for any non shitposters it should give us some breathing room in here.

anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions around this?

794  Other / Meta / Re: Standalone Database with Merit data + Full user details (Trust included) on: October 09, 2018, 12:31:32 PM
That i'm aware of i don't think there is any other way to get the data other than scraping the content from the web page.

The space is not an issue, the only problem in doing this is that will take several days to complete from 1 machine, if we consider a round number of 2M user and hitting the forum at 1 user/s it should take ~556 hours, we can round up at 23 days  Huh, unless i'm missing something
795  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: New Goldman Sachs stable coin. Tether doomed? on: October 09, 2018, 09:31:39 AM
I'm sure it can't be categorized as stable coins since CDP owners participation is required to keep it stable and i doubt it would work on reality. I only can agree the concept is amazing.

It actually seems to have been working pretty well looking at the charts and data available, this is since the starting of May, but it seems they launched the last December:

Also in other exchanges seems to be sitting pretty much everywhere around ~1$: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dai/#markets
796  Other / Meta / Re: Standalone Database with Merit data + Full user details (Trust included) on: October 09, 2018, 08:56:39 AM
Thanks a lot for providing the database with extended user data Smiley Will probably use it to create some elaborate queries  Wink

May I ask what extra information have you added to the UserData table? I see Trust & Activity in your queries, anything else?

Also, does the UserData table only contain users that have touched merit at some point (have sent/received merit)?

Userdata contains all the users that either sent or received any merit and these are the column on the table:

Code:
UserData(
UserId Integer PRIMARY KEY,
UserName TEXT,
Trust TEXT,
Merit Integer,
Posts Integer,
Activity Integer,
Rank TEXT,
DateRegistered Integer,
LastActive Integer,
ICQ TEXT,
AIM TEXT,
MSN TEXT,
YIM TEXT,
Email TEXT,
Website TEXT,
Bitcoinaddress TEXT,
Gender TEXT,
Age TEXT,
Location TEXT,
LastUpdatedData Integer
);

Since there is interest in having all the data available on users in relation with the merit system to do all sort of analysis and investigations, i'm releasing in here a full version of the database used for Tool to run online SQL queries over Full Merit Data(which will continue to use a limited subset of user information in order to have a light solution and avoid the database to grow too much)

The data will be updated possibly every one or two weeks, since it's 29k users at the moment and bound to grow.

You can download the latest version of the full database (SQLite database), with few scripts that will help you to extract the data here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1l0QQJl2NcAVwbXz49sSK6X5D1xmXxHlw

Here is a brief description of the necessary step to use the database:

Download the Precompiled Binaries for your favourite platform here (we just need the sqlite3):
https://www.sqlite.org/download.html
Quote
"A bundle of command-line tools for managing SQLite database files, including the command-line shell program, the sqldiff program, and the sqlite3_analyzer program."

If you want to know more in detail how to use Sqlite3 directly: https://www.sqlite.org/cli.html

Example for usage under Windows platform, from command line:

Put the database, scripts and the sqlite3.exe in the same folder and you have everything you need to start:

Query.bat file:
Code:
sqlite3 btctalk_full.db < CommandsQuery.txt

CommandsQuery.txt:
Code:
.mode csv
.separator "\t"
.output ResultQuery.csv
SELECT * FROM UserData WHERE Activity > 1000;
.output stdout
.quit

Now from command line call Query.bat and after a bit of crunching you will get the data in the ResultQuery.csv tab separated.

If you just need to update your existing data by adding the trust you can simply substitute the query in CommandsQuery.txt with:
Code:
SELECT Username,Trust FROM UserData;

Each user data row specify when the data was read the last time through the column LastUpdatedData

If you need help or some clarification let me know.

Fortunately, somebody came up with a decentralized version of a stablecoin, so nobody has to trust a company, unless they want to. It's all done through a smart contract so completely autonomous, always worth ~1$ and backed by ethereum value, so you don't have to wonder or trust an institution to hold the counter value. It's quite amazing  Smiley

And as you can see in here people are using it https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dai/
