Bit of a tradeoff security wise though, I prefer keeping my wallets separate, with separate passwords, in separate physical locations, with separate backups. Guarded by separate assault-crocodiles. Then again I'm both paranoid and inept.  Undecided

I just have regular crocodiles. Where do you get them trained to become assault crocs? WI?

My regimen includes forced viewing of X Factor and daily injections of supplemental crocosterone, about 300mg/half-ton of bodymass.

Mine are in very cold storage and guarded by :

Ok I misundersood - now that what you are saying would be awesome. Smiley

EDIT: Kai Proctor - you'd still need 5000 DRK to run 5 nodes, I think. Smiley

So I misunderstood too  Cheesy

You'd still need 4000 DRK to run 4 MNs, just each 1000 in it's own addr 0.

Bit of a tradeoff security wise though, I prefer keeping my wallets separate, with separate passwords, in sepatate physical locations, with sepatate backups. Then again I'm both paranoid and inept. Cheesy

Me too

Does that mean we can run multiple masternodes from the same local wallet?

Dunno, but running multiple "nodes" from one wallet / computer kind of goes against the distributed mixing network idea. So I hope the answer is "no".

That is absolutely not the idea. Its for the remote/local setup. the masternodes would still do the mixing, authored by the local wallet. At least that my understanding of it.

1000 DRK, one masternode @illodin is right, the idea is to make it costly to run a masternode.

+1

@EmilioMann And if you don't have proof please go crawl back under your rock (whitecoin thread) instead of spreading FUD.

I got the minerd but when I try to run it I get failed to connect at 127.0.0.1:9332. I have the right address in the a.bat for the pool I am pointing to. for worker username do I put in the name.name I chose?

You want to solo mine ?

FPGA is running X11 Huh Huh

No.

Hi guys, noob here:( Sorry for the dumb question but is DRK still minable? I am interested in dabbling with it and am not sure where the best place to start is.

Thanks,
Griff

Of course ! Welcome!  Cheesy Mine with p2pool, you can choose some nodes there http://drk.poolhash.org/

Apart from Amazon, who else are masternode ops using? (Pref non US)

Speaking of "apart from Amazon"...  I would be interested to know what percentage of the 50-odd masternodes are there right now.  It'd be easy for them to shut them all down on a whim.

Right now, 30 of 55 are running on Amazon. Hence my desire to run my intended others elsewhere.

Most masternodes are there right now because there is a detailed guide with screenshots on how to set it up. If some of the members of the community create additional guides on how to set it up in other places, people will be happy to move them. So if any of you guys could write a guide for some other options, please go ahead and do it.

True, but cost is also an issue - an Amazon micro instance is basically free. Chaeplins guide can be followed exactly from the part where you're ssh'ed in to your server, regardless of where it is. In fact that part on is the easiest bit.
Don't you have to pay for Amazon bandwidth usage?  WHat if the bandwidth usage charges are more than the masternode payments?

Yup, you do, and yes, it adds up.  My problem is that I really don't want to have to monitor my box at home.  Mining has been a total pain and my Ubuntu keeps crashing for some reason.  My IP is out so often late at night, screwing everything up.  It just isn't worth it.  Plus the electricity adds up to more than amazon's prices.  I have to be practical.  so do a lot of people.  So we're going to end up with a bunch of amazons.  lets hope it's not an Achilles' heel.

I already bought a 3 year package, so I'm hoping it will be useful for that length of time, LOL.  You can tell I really believe in the "long term" of this coin Wink

You just have to rent a VPS or a private server and install ubuntu. The steps to setup the masternode are the same, there are cheap monthly subscriptions with hosts providing a DDOS protection.

An autoupdate (or update check) feature would be nice for the wallet.

Honestly, with the difficulty as high as it is, unless you have 100mh+, I'd join a pool.
I ran with pool for a short time, was clocking about 1.2mh, but still want to try solo with a stand alone!
I downloaded the a couple from the OP, just don't have a clue how to set up miner n conf file?
http://www.reddit.com/r/DRKCoin/comments/22w5ft/solo_mining_help/
I you want to mine for a couple months without finding a block then by all means go solo.  But if you want to actually get some coins for your hardwork then you need to stay on a pool.
The time to mine solo is when difficulty is less than 20.  Darkcoin's difficulty just crossed 2000.  But if you are hell bent on mining solo, by all means........

You are right, but if he wants to try ... I can imagine that it's frustrating to read "don't waste your time" instead of a real answer.

Shocked Too much 54.XX.XX.XX, some variety please, use something else than Amazon to host your masternodes.

Masternode question:

When I start the masternode with
Code:
darkcoind masternode start mypassphrase
can I then shut the terminal window? I am worried about the wallet passphrase being there in plain sight.

Plus what happens if/when my local box goes offline for whatever reason, does the masternode persist?

Apologies for noobness at this.

And is there a site that lists masternodes, so I can see from elsewhere that it's up and running?

Thanks.

This works on linux:

darkcoind masternode start `head -1`

Type your password on the next line. If you do it this way the history will show 'head -1' instead of your password.

And you can clear bash history with :

Quote
cat /dev/null > ~/.bash_history && history -c && exit

wohoooo. profitability down the drain once again.

Doge has their own nascar now fuuu.

Guys we need to sponsor something big Tongue

Doge's Nascar race did nothing to help the price..

If you want to advertising in that category(expensive), then having billboards for Darkcoin in Times Square would be great.

Wow ! This coin is amazing and the X11 is even better ... Now i have cooler gpu and no problems ! Thank to devs

You do realize that cooler GPU means it's less effective to mine with a GPU and thus we practically waste our hardware resources, right...?

We have our relatively expensive hardware (with it's own price amortization over time) which is partially idle during X11 mining.

Of course, it's absolutely not a problem in practice if GPUs are still better than anything else available and every GPU miners have a very similar speed penalty (nobody can utilize the full raw power of his/her GPU better than others). But it's technically still inefficiency which is never good, only neutral at best.

So, instead of a feature, it's more like a bug which doesn't need to be fixed. It's not an improvement but a neutral thing with a possibility to become a negative thing.

Wow I'm amazed at this pure nonsense.

1 - Less GPU intensive != less effective
2 - Less GPU intensive = lower energy consumption, that's a better energy efficiency
3 - Less GPU intensive = "our relatively expensive hardware", like you said, lasts longer

You spend less on your electricity bill and you can keep your hardware longer, even resell it at a good price. What are you complaining about ?
