781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: well, ether sale has started. on: September 11, 2014, 04:26:34 PM
They are still making a lot of money for funding the project they have
Looking at the site its 7,182,144 ETH
Or near 3600 Bitcoin * 600 = 2.15 million   Shocked
https://www.ethereum.org/

far from 30 mil they are are aiming for.

Their IPO bitcoin address where people sent bitcoins to buy ether is here.

https://blockchain.info/address/36PrZ1KHYMpqSyAQXSG8VwbUiq2EogxLo2

They already withdrew some coins, but the total received is 31,529.49449551 BTC. That works out to $15228745 if they sell for $483 a bitcoin. It's only half the 30 million dollars they hoped for, but it's still plenty of money.

That should be more than enough money to build something interesting.
For now I guess we will need to wait and see how etherum turns out

I'll throw in a fun one I saw here one before
Person X is at a restaurant and does two transactions one to a waiter to pay for his bill, one to give a tip seperate bitcoin address, and one to take a taxi and use Bitcoins to pay for a taxi (It's the future)
The mobile client they use does not allow for the spending of two transactions at one time until the first transacion confirms through the network that takes roughly 1 block or ten minutes on average as it complains about an unconfirmed Tx

What solutions can be done to prevent this issue.

Do you mean the waiter takes the taxi after work (the TX from the customer has not yet confirmed)? Is that what you meant?

Person X (Is a Customer) there are two addresses one for paying the bill, one for tipping the waiter, and then one for taking the taxi later.

The previous transaction he made to pay for the bill transaction A is not confirmed through the blockchain yet needing at least ten minutes for one confirm through the network but the scenario is that user X now has a balance sending issue, when they are trying to tip the waiter with a seperate bitcoin address and running into this error, after this they want to pay for a taxi with Bitcoin  Grin

What do they do besides waiting 30 minutes for all txts to hit 1 confirm ?
783  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: September 11, 2014, 04:02:49 PM
blockchain.info marks the sending address as BTC Guild. AMs account (67117) on BTCGuild is still sitting around the same hashrate it's been at for the last month or so (270,868.32 GH/s). Just a little confused on what might be happening here.

The very exact value of 10 BTC each time also suggests it's not just mining income, which would vary by at least a small fraction of a bitcoin from payout to payout.

That just means they have their payout set at 10BTC, and it is accumulating at least 10BTC within an hours time.

Hard to tell what is going on but assuming the payout address keeps accumulating at this rate till next Wednesday it will be a significant dividend
One can dream since payouts tended to be on Wednesday
Until then we have to wait for FC to say something.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and recurring transactions: How to solve pay up front? on: September 06, 2014, 10:26:36 PM
Bitcoin is definitely great, I love it, I love using it.  But of course we all know it's not perfect, and I am left wondering how to conduct a certain set of transactions.

Namely, how could you handle bitcoin in a pay later style of escrow payment without having to utilize a third party?

- Subscriptions, on websites with subscriptions you input your card information and each subscription period you are charged automatically.  How could you do this with bitcoin without giving the site your private keys?

- Proving you have funds to another party.  You'd like to commission a painting, but to ensure you aren't screwed over, you don't want to pay 50% up front. What methods could be used to place your bitcoin in escrow so that the other party would know it was there and available for them to retrieve? This one may almost definitely require a third party, but I am open to ideas.

I'm open to all ideas!

For subscriptions, I can see auto transactions being done through another service so I'm a bit stumped on how to answer that question
Recurring payments might work if you could set up a script or deposit a balance with them that it automatically takes payments from or a payment request feature.

For the proving funds to another party
A signed transaction proves you are in ownership of the funds, escrow requires a third party (But perhaps a delayed transaction would work if you could implement that or a multi sig transaction)
Person A the artist has one signature that can claim payment to his address
Person B has the other signature that can claim payment to his address
Both A and B need to agree by sending their signed signatures for the money to be spent
If not done in a certain time period the coins go back to the issuing address or are not spent.

786  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can my TSB bank account be closed for trading bitcoins? on: September 06, 2014, 10:14:51 PM
Bankers are scarred of the things they don't understand. They can just close an account without any explanation and bitcoin is a good reason as any for them.

True enough, although it seems unfair that they closed his sisters account for his transaction of all things
It seems communist in the sense that your forced to use X Bank to do X transaction and cannot use alternatives.
787  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason why anyone would want to see Bitcoin fail on: September 06, 2014, 10:12:00 PM
Or it threatens your current model of banking and control over the financial institutions over the world in one way or another.

This if it can outmode and compete a traditional banking system as a mechanism of exchange and payments.
Then it would be of concerns to them
That and jealous folks seems about right.
788  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Question: Would depositors fare better if Mt. Gox dismissed its bk filing? on: September 06, 2014, 10:08:36 PM
That would be up for the creditors to decide I guess
Putting forth a proposal for dissolution
(The lawyer fees do pile up though lol)

Also for the record the Yen is pretty much 1:1 the USD right now
1 Japanese Yen equals
0.0095 US Dollar

Super excited for this Ira.

We hope to get to the island early to get humanitarian aid, remittances, and micro finance flowing so that everyone's first impression of bitcoin is how much good it can do.

Nice news about the Dominca

792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ask Amazon for Bitcoin Payments on: September 06, 2014, 09:58:37 PM
I am pretty sure Amazon will accept BTC since it got potential.
That said whenever they do get around to accepting Bitcoin payments
This thread might long be forgotten
Slow but steady lol.

On June 30, just before the deadline, Russia signed a law that allows Russian banks to share the tax data of American clients with US tax authorities, but participation isn’t mandatory.

Seems like a smart move. They didn't agree nor disagree, just let the banks to decide.

Although I don't get why didn't they just say 'fuck off' to FATCA. Are they afraid that US may officially forbid they're citizens/companies to keep funds in Russian banks?

Sound about right why should the Russians need to hand over all their personal financial information to the Americans
Who they are not in friendly terms with right now.
Also the Americans should reciprocate the agreement which they didn't so in my opinion the USA got off with some kindness from the Russians.
794  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Illuminati discussion thread Do they exist? on: September 06, 2014, 09:53:50 PM
Don't believe in all of them. Yes they did exist at a point in our history but they are long gone.

Well its possible it was passed on from generation to generation
They still exist in one form or another and those who are able to pull strings get invited into the organization
Like the Rich mafia once your in you can't get out.

I'm probably going to end this campaign after this term as dealing with this has become a full time headache.

Considering these are from the campaign before it was cut down doubt you will get any more headaches
That list is only the vetted members and no one else will join in there so just finish these few off and you should be in for smooth sailing Stunna.

I'll be honest I thought it was a protest about the lack of places to relax and wind down at universities
Seats everywhere but nowhere to lay down and take a nap so the mattress would make perfect sense ^^
From the Article headline here lol

After reading it guess univeristies have their perks lol...
797  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Casinos in Atlantic City close, 5,000 workers out of work on: September 04, 2014, 11:35:40 PM
I have been hearing about the gambling sectors winding down a bit
Sucks to see jobs lost but that's the economy.
That said think Atlantic and other gambling locales are trying to diversify away anyways so it might be interesting to see what happens in the long run.
798  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA - Federal study on lesbian obesity costs $3 million on: September 02, 2014, 10:48:38 AM
the War on Everything (though.... shit... they call this the "war on obesity," don't they?).

Kind of a weird parallax though when you think about the fact that apparently a lot of Americans are starving and yet obesity rates are high
Must be all the junk food or the wasted food somehow going to Lesbian obesity studies instead of more productive ventures like general obsesity studies or simply food distribution  Huh (would say aid but if people are fat and others are starving perhaps its more logistcal)

Social Benefits
Feed People, Not Landfills - An estimated 50 million Americans do not have access to enough food. Organizations can donate safe and healthy food to a food bank or food rescue organization and both reduce food sent to landfills and feed those in need.

799  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Illuminati discussion thread Do they exist? on: September 02, 2014, 10:43:44 AM
The illuminati is hardly hiding their existence anymore, I received a flyer on the fourth of july for a seminar discussing a new world government.

The illuminati does exist, there are intelligent extra dimensional beings involved, I have seen one in person, and yes, they will fail.  Love wins always, quantum energy is instantaneous, ego can only move at the speed of light.

They can feel your positive energy Dank
That's why they keep calling to you now go follow them to the enlightened world and all the things it comes with in that quantum entanglement
800  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Electric utilities are blowing cost of energy theft out of proportion on: September 02, 2014, 10:34:04 AM
This is a drop in the bucket that they are making a mountain out of
Sounds like another way to scam people out of money by making units that they can then tack on to the prices they sell at and maybe even get a cutback from the company that produces them.
Whatever did happen to smart meters?

ALSO HAH Cutback and Fire Hazard!
Letter: Smart meters may be cause of some house fires

http://www.kelownacapnews.com/opinion/letters/273483131.html

To the editor:

It’s a shame that Fortis BC has not even blinked at the findings of the government of Saskatchewan that smart meters are causing fires. Saskatchewan has since recalled all the province’s smart meters after multiple fires, and the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta has placed a moratorium on any future smart meters.

The spin doctors working for BC Hydro and other utilities are explaining this away as being due to a particular meter manufacturer; however, smart meter fires have been reported all over the world and with virtually no difference in the manufacturers.

BC Hydro has done a good job of covering up fires being caused by their meters since they have been installed over the last few years. Just recently, a responding firefighter told CHEK news in Langford B.C. (Sooke Lake) that the hydro meter was on fire when they responded to a house fire call. BC Hydro has since denied the meter was the cause.

Hardly surprising.

With Fortis BC about to install smart meters in Kelowna, can we expect the same spin if and when the installations result in house fires? Fortis BC should do like Medicine Hat and institute a moratorium.
