781  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Importance of emotion while trading on: October 23, 2023, 11:09:39 AM
Most times we mistake ignorance and negligence for emotion. As long as we are living, we act every second with emotions. Humans are not emotionless. So, what happens most times is not lack of emotions. It could be negligence or other factors as
  • Greed
  • Impatience
  • Inability to manage risk
  • Lack of trading skill
  • Ineffective trading strategies
But, we most times squeeze all these into emotions which is not very nice. It is high time we began to differentiate.
782  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is a 20% Annual Return good ? on: October 23, 2023, 10:26:49 AM
Personally 20% annual return is poor and I think that strategy is one that is playing too safe this is with exception to huge capitals. The higher your capital the lower your expected ROI percentage but with a little capital this will definitely not make sense at all, I wouldn't accept a 20% annual return on a $10k dollar portfolio, if it's quarterly it could be considered on basis of consistency.
I don't see it that way at all. Large-scale investors expect average (!) returns of 3 percent per year on projects, e.g. large photovoltaic plants, buildings or large equity portfolios.
Anything above 3% is already considered a utopian high and very unlikely profit. I don't understand how you can say that 20% is not very high. Just calculate that over 5 years ...

I know that this is purely subjective and according to what someone said in this thread, but I find it difficult finding his username to mention him. Some people like to earn more than they need, while some just want to earn normal and live a comfortable life. In a safe investment, 20% is high and risky. 10% is fair enough. There is no financial advisor that will tell you that 20% annual return is bad.

~Snip
I get your point. An emergency situation could come at any time in our life and for that we need to be prepared. Talking about OP, 20% annual return could be a good start but we should not be limited to only that.

20% is good, talking about the limitation, we can encourage diversification rather than forcing ourselves to increase the annual return on a particular investment such that it will become risky to maintain consistency.
783  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What Reward for a Trading Mentor on: October 23, 2023, 10:02:46 AM

What is the best reward for mentorship? How do you think I should reward the mentor when I have one? And how often should this be?

You mixed things up. You are asking as if you are the mentor that what to have an idea on how to bill your subjects. But in this context, you are the supposed learner. It is the mentor that will choose how he will be remunerated and not the other way round. So, meet your mentor first and he will say how you will pay. If by chance he demands nothing from you, it is when you can ask us these questions.

If you are looking for a mentor, you may look for like three good traders that can mentor you.
Mate, are you are this is not a bad idea. Having more than 1 mentor will be demanding and distracting. 3 good traders have different strategies and one person learn from 3 different experts as mentors will be distracting. At a point you may not know whose strategy to apply and whose to ignore.

I will advise he have one mentor and use the forum advice to augment, things will be fine.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of Lightning Network? on: October 23, 2023, 09:44:29 AM
Not sure why some people are calling it dead already.

1. While he's a core dev, he's definitely not the only dev

2. Lightning has never been perfect. But while it technically works, it's simply not ready yet. There's a reason why I never recommended it to normies yet as of yet. But, let's not forget that —

3. Software can be improved

1. There's always this strong vibration if the core developer leaves. He might not be the finest developer, but when the soldier who pulled the first shot is down, the zeal to soldier on is always not assured.

2. No technology ever came in a perfect form, even the bitcoin is still in beta version. Continuing on decentralisation will do the wonders.

3. Yea, we are expecting improvements but I lost some confidence in LN during the event of mempool congestion that skyrocketed the transaction fees. At that time that the LN was needed most, it didn't help much.
785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you prepare for a Bitcoin bull run? on: October 23, 2023, 09:27:19 AM
Quote
#Bitcoin is going to $100k here is why -
- Honda now accepts Bitcoin & Crypto Payments
- Elon Musk calls fiat currencies a S-C-A-M
- Tesla reveals none of its $312 Million Bitcoin was sold in Q3 2023.
- Ferrari now accepts Crypto payments for its Car
- Hong Kong officially launches its first Bitcoin  & Crypto trading platform.
- Less than 5% of the global population is invested in Crypto (we are soo early)
- Japan's largest investment bank Nomura launches Bitcoin fund for institutional investors
- Coinbase receives regulatory approval to offer perpetual futures to international retail customers
- Coinbase receives full operating License in Singapore
- There are Only 21 Million Bitcoins
- Bitcoin Halving in less than 180 days
- Bitcoin Supply Shock Incoming
- Bitcoin Bears still waiting for $12k
These are great news but I think that these news came too early and may never be effective when it is needed to pull the market. We had already seen the effect of Ferrari acceptance of bitcoin in the price rise, I don't think that such an announcement will have further effects on the bitcoin price unless the negative news, when Ferrari will announce that they have stopped accepting bitcoin.

The funny idea is "Bitcoin Bears still waiting for $12k". I don't wait for that price but if you knew the March 2020 crash, will $12k be seen in 2024 before a halving with some bad news to shock the market?
Everything is possible in bitcoin, but I strongly doubt the idea of bitcoin touching the region of 12k. If bitcoin goes to 12k region, a new ATH might never be achieved again. For 70k to be successful, bitcoin price need to building up little by little and not going down.
786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin were a physical currency. on: October 23, 2023, 09:09:51 AM
I'm new here and don't know much about bitcointalk forums. But I thought about Bitcoin for a while. At one point I wondered what it would be like if Bitcoin was a physical currency instead of a digital currency. It would not have gained so much popularity, and its price would not have increased so much. If it were a physical currency, it would be very difficult to buy, how would you buy? And had to go to different stores to sell or buy. How difficult it would have been then. Are you thinking about this?
I wanted to dismiss this imagination as nonsense as many others have already done here in the thread but on a second thought I decided to refine the idea. If bitcoin was to be a physical currency, it won't have a Blockchain connection, which will make the whole essence and relevance of bitcoin unattainable.
But we can imagine that bitcoin remains a digital currency, runs on the Blockchain and at the same time have a physical representation in terms of fiat. It is not actually making alot of sense but I am trying to roll the lane of Op's imagination.
So, if bitcoin being a digital coin, has a physical representation and people can handle and feel it, I instead think that it will encourage adoption. Why some people haven't adopted bitcoin yet could be that they cannot see it or hold it in their physical wallet to buy groceries with.
787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin gift to wife. on: October 23, 2023, 08:58:54 AM
I promised in a post on this forum a few months ago. I had a plan to give half of my bitcoin investment to my wife after marriage.

A very good idea. But if it was me, I would rather teach her how to earn in bitcoin or make her buy bitcoin with her fiat earnings. She would value the bitcoin she earned herself or she bought with fiat more than just the one sent her by hubby. Since she is holding for a long time, she might at sometime forget she has bitcoin before she didn't earn it. Now, the fund will be at risk if she can't save the seed phrase very well. It would have been better she earned herself, then you also let her know about your investment incase of demise
.
I got married a few days ago. First I gave my wife all the ideas about Bitcoin. I was surprised to hear my wife, as soon as I told my wife about Bitcoin, she said that she had heard the name of Bitcoin before.

Did you just see your wife and married her? I mean you decided to tell her about bitcoin only after marriage. I have taught my girlfriend much about bitcoin even when we aren't married.
788  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dump market potential? on: October 21, 2023, 08:38:36 PM
With the way things are going around the globe, I will not be surprise if Bitcoin becomes a safe option for many investors. The confusion and power tussle in the world is just too much. Bitcoin can truly be a common ground for people who do not want to be in a fix regarding the confusion in the world. While some people are expressing fears as regards the future of Bitcoin, I am very confident that the future is secured and there will not be any major dump if if world war breaks out.

The tension is increasing, which can cause instability in the global economy. Many countries are already facing economic crises, and I think you are right about bitcoin's being the common ground for investors. If war escalates on a global scale then the stock, forex and real estate markets can crash. Crypto will also face some downsides, but this can be taken positively by investors as bitcoins have been deflationary in price all these years.
I had thought about this but I didn't take it seriously as such I dismissed it as mere imagination. Now I have seen someone have same imagination, that means it might come to pass. I imagined a situation where some countries whose currencies are weak refusing to have the dollar as their reserve and make bitcoin a legal tender just like the case of El Salvador and Centre Africa.

But then, my first tip of the way bitcoin will hit global adoption is through AI, Robotics and permissionless payment. This will be needed when many systems are automated.

As of what OP is discussing, no world war will happen and the Palestinian wave can only cause a temporary dump.
789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can it be real bull or just a temptation. on: October 21, 2023, 05:34:40 PM
This happening now is very far from the bull run. But it is good to note that this upwards movement of bitcoin is giving us the assurance that bitcoin bull run will surely happen next year. The price increase we are seeing now is not supposed to be a suprise because it was long overdue to happen even towards the end of September.

Considering the news and the pattern of this movement, this price might remain bullish till the end of this October. This is a nice time for short term investors who entered at 25k to cash out. People who bought at the region of 15k still has a good opportunity to sell and maybe rebuy somewhere else to wait for the major bull run
790  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigerian naira hits record black market low of 1,100 per dollar on: October 21, 2023, 01:36:40 PM
Nigeria's naira hit a record low of 1,100 per dollar on the black market on Wednesday, online platform abokiFX showed, a day after the currency hit a new low on the official market due to persistent dollar shortages.

The naira has been in freefall on the unofficial market, where it trades freely, which worsened after currency restrictions were lifted on the official market.source

This is not a good news for Nigerians in Nigeria as the level of inflation is outrageous in the country. The naira is losing its buying power on a faster lane and the effect is telling on Nigerian citizens who save in naira. It is nice to let us understand that Nigerians were deceived for more than 35 years to devalue her currency (naira) and the effect is what we are seeing now.

Nigerians are suffering high level of inflation because of the exchange rate which has increased the cost of goods coming into the country and secondly because of the increment of PMS caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Unfortunately the entire world is facing financial problems but Africa is having way worse problems than Europe per example. Right now , I don't see any salvation for Africa to be honest because they have too many corrupted people that really don't want anything good to happen with people from that country or with Africa in general.

I also won't be surprised if Nigerian naira will hit even lower rates by the end of the year because inflation and corruption won't go away over night.
Yes, you have rightly said that the world is facing global inflation but that of Africa (Nigeria) in particular is on a faster lane because of bad leadership and corruption.
791  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the need to be known a requirement to qualify for a loan(s)? on: October 21, 2023, 10:11:03 AM

Is there any truth to the fact that an individual needs to be known in any place before they can qualify to receive loans?
That is, is the need to be known or identified really required to qualify for a loan?

What are thoughts?

My thought is not single, and infact it is conflicting but I will try my best to explain. I had known the traditional loan method which the bank uses for so long and I have always thought that before you could get a loan, you must be known by the institution offering the loan and again you must have a tangible collateral to present which in my country is mostly landed properties.

But when I arrived this forum, although it took many years to discover the lending board. On getting to know the lending board, I was surprised to understand that people give non collateral loan to pals they do not know in person. Little did I know that the bitcointalk account itself is a collateral. Now I have understood that even $20k cannot make me destroy my account.
So, answering OP, if there is a collateral, knowing someone in-person is no longer necessary.

Security Should Be Your First Target as a Newbie

If I was to be a newbie, my first target would have been to learn how to earn bitcoin. By learning how to earn bitcoin I would definitely come across many things. It is only when you have bitcoin or have learnt how to earn it that you begin to find the best way to save your bitcoin. I am not undermining the essence of good security practices, but I am seeing that earning will motivate one to learn how to save well.
I have read a thread that says "knowledge of bitcoin without investment is a waste", I think agree with that.

Newbies must search, read and learn first.
Exactly, newbies need to read, learn, and have the capacity to earn and every other things come in.
Then, when it is about security, newbies should try to use the exchange as an exchange and the personal wallets as wallets. It will be safer this way.

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/h-bomb-and-the-internet

Internet is the first decentralized network (minus the DNS Root servers). Bitcoin is the second decentralized network.

Maybe a massive solar flare could shut it down for a few years... Shocked

In the above fictional or imaginary content (OP), the author was imagining the internet to be only one and from that just one source, everything is connected. Maybe the headquarters of the internet is in Washington and Joe Biden is with the key. So, one day he might get sad or depressed and then he will shut the internet from his office in the White House.

The World Wide Web is the biggest decentralized system in the world, so your imagination cannot come to pass. It will just die in imagination. Unless you are one of the people in the world, especially some Africans who believe the world will one day cease to exist.
My "imagination"? Are you a ChatGPT bot, or does your reading comprehension suck? Roll Eyes

Gosh, I hate it when people with signature campaigns make useless posts! Angry
Cryptosize, you misconstrued my post above. The post was formed in two paragraphs, the first paragraph supported your idea of the decentralized internet, which is the reason I quoted your post while the second paragraph answered OP. I do not blame you because you thought I referred to you in both paragraphs. The mistake was from me by not mentioning Op in the second paragraph or maybe not using the horizontal rule.  I have corrected the quoting mistake, you may decide to read again and remain cool.

People wearing the Green signature and avatar are generally not spammers or bots. Peace!

How much money can you make by investing in Bitcoin?
You will not make alot of money, unless you invest alot of money;
I always say that the early adopters of bitcoin were the people that had the ability to make big money with little capital;
Do not see bitcoin as a get rich quick scheme;
See bitcoin as the currency you invest or save the money you will not be needing readily;
Bitcoin can make you comfortable when it increases in price but it will not make you super rich;
Just hang around in the forum for few months reading, you will know how to invest in bitcoin.
When you finally know how to invest, I will advice you use the DCA method, it is less emotional and more passive.

What have they done to own that title?
Is it that they have contributed much on this Forum? What have they done or how can we tell what they have done?

Well, you used the right word as some of the old users of this forum are being addressed. Assuming you used legendary members in place of the prominent, I would have come in from a different perceptive. This is because, it is not all old users of this forum are prominent and it is not all prominent are very old.
But then, to become a prominent member you must have spent time here doing one or more of the following;
  • Teaching newbies
  • Sharing helpful information
  • Fairly distributing merits
  • Answering questions
  • Reporting spam
And lots more. Someone who has spent upto 3 years might have done these things better than someone who is barely few months old.
797  Other / Meta / Re: "Creation of topic date" Suggestion on: October 20, 2023, 10:58:53 PM

Note: it is just a suggesstion.

Like, i mean to say there can be a section of date of post after the line which i draw in the picture.

-Snowpega-

Your suggestion is not out of place. But I think the most important application of your suggestion is to prevent bumping older threads and there is a mechanism to check that. If you are about to post in an old thread you would definitely be notified that the thread is more than 120 days old and as such you should consider starting a new topic.

Secondly, when conversations start flowing in a thread, the emphasis is no more on the Op rather on the successive posts on the thread. So, the date of the most recent reply is more important than the date of the Op and this just helps much in sorting of the posts.
798  Other / Meta / Re: My suggestion on how to reduce the spam problem in gambling board, what's yours? on: October 20, 2023, 10:37:59 PM
Just leave it like that.

If you see posts that are fucking shit, report them, as mentioned above, but that there are many threads in which people are simply dedicated to meet post quota what it does is to fulfill the function that that board has. The advertisers are happy because they generate traffic to their casinos, the posters are happy because they get paid and the forum has traffic that would go elsewhere if it made the effort to implement "quality" in that section.

That is what most people do not actually understand. Before now I was among those clamouring for changes in the gambling discussion board but as time progresses I understood that the system is fair, if I cannot confidently say it's fine. Those gambling discussion mega threads like the "English Premier League" has cool ranking in search engines and whenever cryptocurrency gambling key words are used, it leads to these mega threads. As PP recommended, simply ignore or report.

Yeah, this is what we would see in the gambling discussion section Roll Eyes.

This will only spread the spam across the whole board and encourage multiple opening of spam topics to encourage more spamming. Having one dedicated thread will only organise the spam in one thread.

800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think? Selling all or not on: October 17, 2023, 06:03:29 PM
Have seen a lot of threads talking about the bull market, and everyone making comments.
I don't think selling all bitcoin in the bull market is a good idea. Why? Knowing the fact that the next bull price will still come as bitcoin continues to grow, so I don't think selling all my bitcoin in the bull market is the best.
Everyone is holdle bitcoin in the bear market and planning to sell in the bull market, now, when finally, the bull market  comes should I sell all my bitcoins and prepare to accumulate from afresh in the next bear market again? or should I keep some percentage to continue the accumulation?

Everyone has different approaches to this and this depends on the information available to them. I had always said that I will not sell all my bitcoin if the bull run happens but then I am also having double thoughts about this. Maybe if I should remain, it should be about 20% of my portfolio. Why I am no longer a fan of leaving large portion of my bitcoin even after the bull run is that I have discovered that I could still rebuy during the bear market.

For instance, the last bull run took us to a height of about $69k and the bear came to the region of 15k. This means whoever sold at 60 and re-bought at 20 made a good decision. No matter how high the bull run will take us, the bear must surely present us an opportunity to buy again.
