Love the design. Could become one of my fav Squirrelbits so far - and that says something.
Oh and again a hash extra - awesome.

Lowest or #18 for me please if available.
782  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bisq Market Day - March 20th 2023 on: March 03, 2023, 12:19:55 AM
This is awesome. Will share the news and hope many more join in doing the same.
Bisq is not perfect, but a fantastic project with constant development and a very well working DEX software.

I want to encourage anyone reading this to try it. You can buy / sell small amounts and often get a 1 - 3% plus on the current market value for smaller amounts.
783  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: March 03, 2023, 12:16:00 AM
I guess this indictment will be the least of worries to SBF since some of his buddy politicians he "donated" to are currently in power
They have already been asked to give back the money (if not willfully then by court order) and they might wanna distance themselves from him so I am not so sure how much protection he's gonna get.

What does unlawful unlawful political contributions and defraud the federal election commission imply? Are they trying to imply that Sam was bribing some politicians?
You can find detailed explanation here (pages 34-36), but from what I could understand, among others things he gave more money than allowed in one year and then tried to conceal it.

Wow, just wow. Just read up a little on the recent development of the case. Hadn't done so for a few months now.
The shitpile he / they produced with FTX is still getting bigger. It's not really suprising, but still insane to see what was going on for years behind the scenes. If the bullrun would have continued for another two years, who knows how many billions more they would have embezzled.

Thanks for another raffle. I did quite a few trades with MJ, always a pleasure.
Oh and btw, looking forward to that special Icarus-tournament series, hope it's gonna be scheduled soon.
786  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Stacks Bowers Physical Cryptocurrency Auction 2023 Thread on: March 02, 2023, 10:42:32 PM
Stacks success doesn’t = real life value. These all end with a bunch of rich guys in the room drinking and bidding. Last auction an Alpen went for $600+ and a genesis btc went for $1200…. Don’t forget the CI pumpkin for $1200. Way over priced but they were the only examples for sale which garnered extra interest. We will see how this one ends up but rarity helps a lot… or even perceived rarity in these stacks auctions.

Just because we buy them here cheaper dosent mean that outside of the forum these prices arent legitimate. [...]
I second that statement. Forum is like a tiny bubble that 99.999% of coin collectors are unaware of. Of course, most of these coin collectors will/currently are not interested in crypto / collectibles themed around crypto. But I am sure at least 1% would be, which would probably amount to several tens of thousand of people.
With cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin becoming more and more mainstream that's already about to slowly but steadily change.

Not sure if I would agree that forum prices were high last year. For some items yes, but if you get lucky you still could get a bunch of amazing collectibles for low every now and then. Except for the mega-og coins I guess, like cas and some Lealanas.

Lot 5: 4 @ 0.01BTC

Surprised they didn't grade higher, they must have been stored for a while or something. Tongue

Sweet selection.... I think I know whose coins these are, but not 100%... Just a guess...  Grin

Can't clearly see it from the pictures, but these are all 1 oz silver coins, right?
In the unlikely event that not: Please consider my bids invalid.

I'm 99.9% sure they are all .999 ag, but we'll let mr. jones answer. Wink

True, these ratings are hella low, do they come with big fingerprints on them or what?
Joking aside, cool coins, I think a decent crypto collector needs some Doge stuff every once in a while. Wink

Still: Any info on mintages? Silver shield usually go with very low numbers if I recall correctly.
791  Economy / Collectibles / Re: MYBITS ENCYCLOPEDIA on: March 01, 2023, 01:44:47 PM
My silver coins arrived today - looking absolutely great and coming in a nice presentation-box.
Very shiny, great work.

Looking forward to the bars, but not sure if I am going with the plated ones - solid silver would be much appreciated.
792  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] SET CRYPTO STAMPS on: March 01, 2023, 01:40:57 PM
Ends Today

What a steal so far, probably can't get these CS anywhere any cheaper. If I didn't have these already I'd bid.
GL with the sale, hope to see some more interest in crypto stamps maybe with the next bullrun.
793  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance - where is it located? on: March 01, 2023, 01:28:05 PM
Binance has several stories of how they attempted to set up (physically) a head office which on average was short-lived due to new regulations that didn't always seem to stick around once the office was established, since the Cayman Islands (their first license), Malta, China, Japan, Seychelles[1].

December 2021 The Central Bank of Bahrain granted an in-principle license[2] where it was an opportunity to set up a new headquarters, though I never heard of any renewal. I think CZ is no longer interested in establishing a central office, as a matter of CZ's principle:
Quote
“Office and HQ are old concepts like SMS and MMS.”

1. https://decrypt.co/19191/binances-real-headquarters-are-in-the-cayman-islands
2. https://cointelegraph.com/news/binance-gets-green-light-from-canada-and-bahrain

Haha, love the quote, what a rebel that CZ guy is. Or just naive? Hope this "strategy" works out, generally I like the idea of a decentralized company that is not bound to one nation, but my guess is nations don't like that.
True cypherpunk spirit but tbh I would be suprised if CZ didn't have to go into hiding or at least needs to avoid certain countries at some point in time.

[...]
No, CZ shouldn't compare Binance with Bitcoin. They're not only different, they could even be opposites. But this is familiar. I think CZ has also mentioned how Binance is decentralized like Bitcoin in explaining why it doesn't have a single base or a headquarter. I don't think he's correct.

How could he even compare a private company with an absolutely public currency? An completely independent currency is not answerable to anybody. It is different, however, to a centralized company. Having no registration and no address means zero accountability. You can easily trust the transparent and immutable codes of Bitcoin, but you cannot do the same with a clandestine company run by one man.

Agreed, a company run by one person on top - opposite of a decentralized thing such as Bitcoin.
Good PR, though.
794  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com 🔐 Icarus Poker Series | Discussion Thread ♠️♥️♣️♦️ on: March 01, 2023, 12:21:39 AM
as i just talked to icopress it will most likely be in march and we can start our poker tournaments
all of you who want to join the poker tables, you can already send your buyins ($20 per tournament day) in a free minute to your betnomi acc Smiley

Is it the usual Betnomi blind structure, I linked below?

i think the blind structure you posted will also be valid for us and we will practice it in the same way.
That structure actually looks great. Maybe you can adjust blind structure to 12 minutes level or something a little slower than 8 minutes at the FT.

I am not checking this thread regularly and the bot seems to only let me track 4 at a time, right?
Just asking, will you also post an update in your Icarus thread when the date for the tournaments is set?
Looking forward to it!

Also, any info on mintage regarding the Bitpays and the Silvershield? Thanks.  Smiley
796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a good wallet I can use to store Bitcoin? on: February 28, 2023, 11:56:49 PM
I was introduced to LSD but I am more interested in buying Bitcoin first.
wtf?  Cheesy

Many of my friends told me to use Blockchain wallet but one of them told me that is not a good wallet. He told me to buy a hardware wallet but I don't have money to buy it.

What wallet to use if not Blockchain wallet?

Before you use any wallet, check its integrity here:
https://walletscrutiny.com/

If you want a good hot-wallet (meaning not for big amounts that you want to save long term, but for a few bucks that you may pay for one or two Pizzas or a coffee) for a mobile device, I'd recommend Samurai wallet: https://samouraiwallet.com/
Secure, easy to use, high level of privacy and open-source.

For windows desktop, MACOS or Linux go with Whirlpool. Heard good things about it but haven't tried it yet.
797  Economy / Exchanges / Binance - where is it located? on: February 28, 2023, 11:51:11 PM
I never thought about it much, but today I was wondering where Binance was located. Googling didn't bring up the results I was expecting.

https://www.cryptoglobe.com/latest/2022/05/where-is-binance-located/
Quote
“Wherever I sit, is going to be the Binance office. Wherever I need somebody, is going to be the Binance office.”
Shin pressed the issue further, leading Zhao to say that he was not trying to “obfuscate” or “hide,” the company’s location, and that Binance was “in the open.”

There are some addresses pointing towards Malta or Cayman Islands, however no clear public info about their official headquaters to be found.
Checking wikipedia, some pages say they are not registered/unknow, some say "Society of Delaware".  Huh

How does a company like Binance pay taxes (if at all?) and under which law are they to respond to any disbutes?
798  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Binance on: February 28, 2023, 11:40:49 PM
for now, CZ said that busd can be redeemed to original dollar. and I hope everything will settle again I don't hope another fud happen  Cheesy

Fud is an inseparable part of the crypto ecosystem. I don't think we've ever seen any few months period without bigger or smaller fud going on.
As for Binance, it really starting to look like US regulators are set on not letting them grow too big.
But if they can handle moving away from Paxos smoothly, it would add to their credibility, and to Paxos' as well.

Not too suprising given the almost monopoly-standing of Binance right now, especially given the fact it is not a US company but (in a way) a Chinese one.
I think this will repeat with other unregulated exchanges that are going to rise to or near the top. Unless of course you play buddy-buddy with big corps, as FTX did. On a side note: funny how news about FTX almost seem to have seized to exist.

Back to topic. It's very clear that regulators are trying to stop unregulated (stable) coins, the question is: Will/can they ever succeed?
799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I've been scared to invest in bitcoin on: February 27, 2023, 12:28:30 AM
My question is this, is it possible for bitcoin to be completely immune to volatility in years to come?

without delving too deep into economics

if the cheapest mining(method of acquiring) on the planet was $15k
(wholesale/bulk price of hardware, plus cheap electric)
and if the most inefficient mining (retail price hardware and most expensive electric) was say $110k to mine bitcoin

then no one will want to sell below the minimum and no one would want to mine at the maximum
and so inbetween these maxis is where the market moves

yep right now in hawaii, japan it costs $110k to mine in someones home. as a hobby miner. so they are extremely happy to buy bitcoin at prices below this top. very very happy right now at $24k current price

there are some miners mining at the bottom thus happy to sell for $24k

but here is the thing

back in 2010-11 the scale of the maxis was 100x ($0.30-$30)
in 2016-17 the scale of the maxis was ~45x ($450-$20k)
in 2020-21 the scale of the maxis was ~18x ($4k $75k)
where by the market moves SOMEWHERE between these
thus can be even less volatile then the maxis
[...]

These are some very interesting metrics. Where did you get these numbers?
I wonder if it's even possible to come up with exact numbers, since, as soon as new ASIC hardware hits, the older ones get devalued either comepletely (not profitable anymore with the increase of difficulty and energy expenses) or to some extent.
You never know exactly when and which new hardware will come out, so calculating the exact costs to mine 1.0 BTC seems impossible to me. You can estimate and ofc calculate for past periods of mining.

Anyway, please share your source.

@OP: I think you questions were already answered well, have fun on your Bitcoin journey.
Try Andreas Antonopoulos (on youtube) if you want to dive deeper.
800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What If There Is A Ban on: February 27, 2023, 12:22:07 AM
[...]
Agreed, even when someone leaves the market it doesn't turn to be void. The same gets filled by the other waiting to grab the position. We were able to experience this with the ban of mining that happened with China. By the time the miners moved their mining hardwares and most of them were run on Iran. At some point the Iran government made a ban and by the time once again the mining got affected for a while and began to take its position.

That is what it is all about. And that is also why Bitcoin is so resistant. It doesn't matter whether one state decides to ban it. Bitcoin will keep existing and evolving no matter whether one state bans it. China has learnt it the hard way. I remember when they first banned it and the trading volume for Bitcoin actually went up in China! Cheesy
You know what they say... Bad advertisement is better than no advertisement.

And agreed with n0ne: It's a game of cat and mouse. Regulations vs technology, bans vs counties that support crypto.
And in the meantime Bitcoin is becoming more mainstream, the technology is becoming more secure, stable and advanced.
