7801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Libra never mentioned "Bitcoin" in Whitepaper on: June 20, 2019, 06:15:54 PM
For me Libra's the scariest thing in crypto for now. It could replace Tether lol.

As long as Facebook Inc. can actually carry what they promised a lot of people, I think it's fine. Tether is somewhat acting fishy for the longest of time and cannot show their actual reserves which they boasted to have. Besides, before Libra can scare its competitors and peers, the Feds would still scare them on their launch with legal repercussions should they continue to launch their coin without agreeing to the terms of the government. Anyhow, I don't think it's the end for bitcoin nor tether. It's just another fish dropped into the market albeit somewhat more dominant over others.
7802  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How long realistically before global mandatory kyc on all exchange/VASP? on: June 20, 2019, 05:09:24 PM
They're creating it to presumably be fully US compliant and as this thread ably demonstrates the US doesn't want people playing with margin unless they're big swinging dicks.

This is true. For the most part they'd side on those who can do big favors for them and not really the average Joes who don't have deep pockets on them. The rich always gets the exception for silly rules applied to all who can't afford to be in the 1%, and that's just saddening.

The very short lived gdax margin trading was for institutions and stuff only.

Yup, it was rebranded as Coinbase Pro but totally different in terms of rules and ToS. I wish they bring that back, or at least get a working DEX which everyone can use freely without having to submit lousy KYC to regulators and exchange operators every so often.
7803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, Dark Web, Drugs and Government. on: June 20, 2019, 04:41:14 PM
PDEA is really outdated when it comes to intelligence about such matters. The Feds already know about this back in 2013 and had effectively seized bitcoins from the Silk Road and other known persona involved in the said marketplace. This has always been an issue for bitcoin, but fact of the matter is it's not only being done through bitcoin but also with fiat. Drug money and funding from terrorists all came from the USD prior to bitcoin's inception, so there's really not much the governments can do even if they banned crypto in their countries because nefarious people will always find a way to complete their activities.
7804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The reason Libra might be good for Bitcoins on: June 20, 2019, 04:03:00 PM
In 2018 there were 2.38 billion active users of Facebook , what does that mean , why is it important ?
Simple Embarrassed people trust Facebook, they have been here since years and therefore the scope is unlimited.

With the not-so latest news regarding the Cambridge Analytica scandal, exposing Facebook's exploits regarding personal details of people, I don't think people from around the world still trust the company the same, although many are still using the platforms they have established over the years. Using their services doesn't necessarily mean that they still vest their whole trust on the company. I have deleted my Facebook account not so long ago and have created a dummy one just for the memes, tbh.

Now since they are releasing Libra , that is a cryptocurrency people will stop looking wide eyed on Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies and since it's not evidently getting launched just tomorrow we have all the time in the world to welcome those 2.38 billion into the *maybe they will be using Bitcoins* world.

This way we have both increased our scope and at the same time it has enhanced and strengthen the market .

A lot of those, perhaps would just not bother and do along with their daily lives while the few curious ones would do their research. I won't expect a lot of people would be interested in it the first time though I know that a substantial amount of that would be trying to comprehend. Publicity, that's the best thing Libra could do for bitcoin, nothing else.
7805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Uncertainty, Political Chaos = More Bitcoin Buying on: June 20, 2019, 03:07:09 PM
I don't really think that political restlessness have something to do with major jumps in bitcoin. Perhaps it can be seen as a 'signal' by some traders but certainly not a great reason for people to trade by the event. Also, $75 - $160 isn't really a premium IMO, as we have seen back in 2017 that Korean exchanges even had it by a thousand dollars compared to the rest of the world. It's just normal exchange differences due to time constraints and geographical locations but nothing special at all.
7806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Libra coin over Bitcoin is that possible? on: June 20, 2019, 02:39:20 PM
Not so sure about that. Even though Libra could easily be shilled by Facebook across its different social media platforms, a lot of people would know that bitcoin is still on the top. Besides, the feds are also pursuing Facebook's crypto launch given the amount of troubles the said company had itself in for the last few years. Security of the users is the main issue (lol), and we know how many data breaches/leakages the said company had back in the days. People know this and do not easily forget, so I think that could weigh in when people start comparing one over the other.
7807  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analyst claim Bitcoin will easily surpass $15,000 if it gets $10,000 on: June 20, 2019, 10:52:51 AM
Any analyst can claim that, although targets are getting harder to achieve the higher we get knowing that we need to squeeze in more money in order to push the price up. $10000 would be a hard price point to breach, as it is also one of the major psychological barriers that we have recently even though we had crossed that line some 2 years ago. If anything though, this would be jinxed, just like any Tom Lee predictions made. I won't buy it, and I'd just keep an eye on the price and make a decision myself.
7808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Artificial Inteligence + blockchain = deadly combination? on: June 20, 2019, 05:21:26 AM
I don't think that blockchain and AI would even be intertwined together knowing that the efforts engineers are pouring on perfecting AI tech is focused more on nonsense things (lol jk). Anyway, perhaps automation through AI can be helped by blockchain tech, but not in a detrimental way that Skynet-like scenarios could be activated. Perhaps a kill switch on AIs could be implemented by engineers if that's what you're worried about.
7809  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's your trading day? on: June 20, 2019, 12:00:28 AM
hey guys,
really interested in how full-time crypto traders work.

some questions
1) What sites do you visit?
2) How much time do you spend on trading?
3) What websites help you build your strategy?
4) What instruments do you lack for a more precise analysis?
5) What is the biggest problem in trading for you?
6) What price trackers do you use?
7) if you have time, please describe your typical trading day Smiley

Thank you for participating!

1. I use Binance for the most part. Sometimes bittrex for altcoin trading.
2. Depends on what time of the month it is. Usually I don't go about spending or using $1000 of my bankroll but when the whole market is active, it can exceed more than that.
3. Tradingview
4. I'm not sure what exactly, but my trading exploits somewhat proved to be profitable already.
5. Time constraints against the whole world.
6. I don't really use one exclusively.
7. Just another day in front of my PC, trying to make money just like the rest of my co-traders.
7810  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why was this recent downturn not surprising? on: June 19, 2019, 11:48:12 PM
It's not really surprising considering that we have been in the greens for a long time. Any drop in the price will be a normal market reaction and should be expected given the range of the rise we have had for the last couple of months. Sans the promotion of your service and the factors you have mentioned, a correction is a necessary thing to occur before any substantial gains can be seen. Heck, even back to $7000 or $6000 is still bearable for us to handle right now.
7811  Economy / Economics / Re: Repeating of all time high has begun on: June 19, 2019, 10:54:39 PM
It will still be a long road, though I must agree that once we reach 5 figures once more, positive press reception, together with the surge of interest coming on from waves of different people will come together and make another push for an ATH happen. If we look into the charts at a bigger picture, we're still far from the FOMO stages but only on the beginning of the rise. And if the figures and charts are correct, we're still in for a parabolic rise, exceeding more than $20k if we're to follow the cycle. It's too much to see and grasp for the mean time but hey, 4 years ago we deemed that $1000 is an impossibility to reach ever again!
7812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is what every country will do on: June 19, 2019, 10:45:03 PM
Hmm, I wonder if this covers your banking details so as to ensure that you have the means to carry such weight into your account? Local exchanges here (Philippines) imposed that sometime last year for accounts exceeding volumes of $10,000 monthly which, I think is also a bit off. I have received that notification after converting $10,000 worth of bitcoins to local cash and have been summoned to their HQ for some clarifications and questions. Idk why but since then, I never used the exchange, and have since moved on to P2P transactions if I want fast cash or btc.
7813  Economy / Speculation / Re: With Bitcoin 33% higher, did technical analysis cause the move? on: June 19, 2019, 10:21:27 PM
TA only points out movements, not necessarily dictate or cause them. There are a lot at play to bitcoin trading than just TA alone, and that's a fact. You constantly have the regulations shaking ground on bitcoin, add to that the FOMO and other things. If this is your traditional stock market, I'll believe that at some point, TA caused something huge. Then again this is bitcoin, and we know that it's a highly unpredictable market that TA cannot foresee.
7814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To all Firefox users, UPDATE your browser now before it's too late. on: June 19, 2019, 10:00:34 PM
I have always used FF over Chrome and Edge for banking-related services and browsing that I need for the last few years. Never have encountered a single problem with them. I'm just wondering if I'm at risk considering that I did browse my bank and logged in using FF yesterday? I have already updated to the latest version and just wondering whether online-related services are also exploited. Good thing is I don't store wallets on my online machines, not even once.
7815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook coin Libra already targeted by US government on: June 19, 2019, 08:56:40 PM
It seems that the government (the US in particular) is ready to jump on whatever things that might get uncontrolled knowing that a lot of people would surely support it. In the case of Facebook and Libra, they have stressed that Facebook Inc. has already been fined a lot of times due to their malpractices with their tech, but seriously is that enough grounds to lay waste on their new tech? I think not. Also, their regulators are one of the worst in the world and doesn't seem to have any sort of plan to even help the rising demands for a comprehensible regulations on new Fintech such as cryptocurrencies. The US government has always been a bully to everyone, so it's no surprise that they would want to shut down Libra before it goes big.
7816  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices skyrocket thanks to Facebook on: June 19, 2019, 12:17:15 PM
I don't think Facebook's cryptocurrency talks has anything to do with the actual happenings in the bitcoin market of recent times. Even before the launch of Libra Coin was realized, bitcoin was already in a craze and has been hitting the greens for months. If anything, the launch perhaps helped people trust in cryptocurrencies more, or at least know that giant companies are also on the verge of introducing more to the table, especially cryptocurrencies of their own.
7817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the reason Amazon hasn't adopted Bitcoin? on: June 18, 2019, 02:39:18 PM
No reason whatsoever to adopt bitcoin into their systems knowing that traditional payment methods are working well for them and their merchants and honestly, not a single thing would ever change for the company even if they decided to use bitcoin the next day. This is not being pessimistic, this is just being frank of the things at hand. I also love large retailers and merchants accepting bitcoin but with the current state of the said cryptocurrency, most are just busy speculating and making profit than using it as such, and I'm pretty sure Amazon doesn't want the hassle of having to convert coins into cash and losing potential profit along the way.
7818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver's Bitcoin.com propaganda against bitcoin on: June 17, 2019, 08:28:55 PM
I view Roger Ver as a somewhat passable man sans the shots he had been firing bitcoin ever since he had this miscommunication with the core devs. All of what he does is basically just him trying to prop his failed iteration of bitcoin, just like a telemarketer trying to do outbound calls on uninterested prospects. Anyway, he could go on and rant all he wants, but we all know the story: BCH is a failure and only those pump and dump traders together with his die-hard fanatics and close friends would ever be interested in BCH.

A mining pool decided to use a 51% attack on BCH last month to "correct" some transactions they didn't like. This was easily done because their hashrate is so low. The fact that this is even possible means that BCH is no longer decentralized or censorship resistance. One mining pool has complete power over BCH, if they want it.

It is a failed coin kept alive by bag holders trying to lure in newbies.

This. Knowing that a single entity could cause a major problem in the network, why would anyone even use your creation?  Cheesy
7819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright, another blunder revealed on: June 17, 2019, 07:24:09 PM
Usually, you can spot a liar in the open because they themselves screw up their stories, and this is the perfect example for it. CSW just keeps getting himself in the prying eyes of the media and the onlookers, and every single thing he utters that reveals his fake identity as satoshi, the more it gets interesting on how would he cover up the lies he made. I'm thinking that this man won't have the decency to admit that he lied every single time even when it's him on the court. Anyways, a true gold of a clip right there.
7820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who coined the word "cryptocurrency" ... on: June 17, 2019, 06:38:46 PM
Pretty legitimate question to be honest. The first things that come to mind are David Chaum's works on 'electronic cash,' Wei Dai's 'b-money' and Nick Szabo's 'bit gold,' all of which are somewhat related to the cryptocurrency that we know of today. The first time I read something about cryptocurrencies is in 2015 in a Coindesk article relating to Ethereum and the rise of other altcoins, and it's strange since I started this journey on 2013 December and registered in this forum on 1 April 2014.
