Datos a 02/10/2020. Mi idea es ir refrescándolo cada mes aproximdamente. La verdad es que la nota de prensa de la CFTC no deja títere con cabeza (la demanda en detalle: https://www.scribd.com/document/478302514/Enf-Hdr-Global-Trading-Complaint-100120#from_embed). Para ser una entidad tan grande, con más de 1 billón de dólares facturados desde el 2014, poco se han cuidado en salud (más allá de abrir un montón de sociedades en paraísos fiscales), y ya sabemos que EEUU no se anda con chiquillas. Ya tengo los datos: Para todo perfil con 100 o más méritos ganados, he calculado la ventana móvil de 30 días, en la cual obtuvo mayor número de méritos. El cálculo lo he hecho para 1.188 usuarios, generando 141.916 registros de datos durante el cálculo (para cada fecha meritada de un usuario, calculo la los méritos en los siguientes 30 días, y me quedo con el valor máximo por persona). The merit (no pun intended) is not only in being bold to do that he (/they) did, but to manage to capitalize around the event, to the point that he’s got a who’s set of business lines associated to the Bitcoin Family brand.
Of course, the above is not just down to boldness or luck, but to the knowledge that Didi Taihuttu had on cryptocurrencies. Apparently, he started mining BTC in 2010 (probably sold most early) and has a strong technological background, which probably goes a long way, and is a personal fundamental asset to his achievement.

Often though, media extol a guilty by association type of narrative, even if simply from a visual standpoint for the person who skims the news. This week, many online newspapers in Spain have an article or two on the Arbistar Ponzi scam fiasco. A significant part of the media, I find, are using an Image of Bitcoin as part of their graphic support, alongside headings that point to a Ponzi scam. There we have it: guilty by association. Some articles will there on, explain the situation better, and lay the weight on the scammers themselves, but the visual cues are unfortunately often there, and that is what a large part of the outsider community will see until they dig deeper (which most wont). It’s a bit like the B&H section: I think we need to find some positive narratives to counter the negative ones (i.e. scams) more frequently ... |

Plagiarism been around for some time, to the point that the rule on the matter was introduced around mid 2016 (see re: The Plagiarist, Ban Appeal and the Forum). That’s a year and a half before the introduction of the Merit System, so Merits are not the sole reason behind plagiarism, although it’s certainly a core driver. Now beginners may be none the wiser about the rules during the first days/weeks, but forum policy dictates that plagiarism leads to a permanent ban (in the vast majority of the cases). I can’t see that changing into a sort system similar to driving licence points, whereby each penalty deducts from the individual counter, nor the rule being bent to allow for a one-off during the novice period. This does not, however, contradict the fact that rules could be made more explicit from the get-go (i.e. welcome message, warning in post edition header, etc.). |
