7881  Economy / Gambling / Re: KonradFun 8) | 50% First Deposit Bonus on: August 04, 2021, 08:45:03 AM
I would advice everyone not to deposit any more money into this casino until the OP comes back and answers the questions the community has. Two users already made deposits but their balances weren't updated! OP has been missing for 5-6 days now after he created this announcement thread. It's not the proper way to advertise a new casino.

The site itself doesn't look bad in my opinion. The starting page is overcluttered though and it shouldn't be loading so many games at once. The language options should be on the top, not at the bottom. Even after changing my language to English, the welcome info at the bottom is still in Spanish. It should change to the player's language of choice without forcing me to use Google Translate to find out what is written there.

The site doesn't show any information regarding supported payment methods. When I click on the refill logos at the bottom, it asks me to make a deposit. Payment info should be public and based on it, I'll make up my mind whether or not to register on the site. For you, it's the other way around.
7882  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can one store/swap Bitcoin? on: August 04, 2021, 08:24:25 AM
They are partnered by the third-party exchange and that's Changelly exchange, so it means they have a fixed rate regarding the fee which is you might blindly be accepted the possible high fees.  Most likely an instant swap has these terrible fixed fees that could hurt your balance during swapping and I think that's good advice than choosing a single wallet for Bitcoin and convert it when you needed.
Instant exchanges definitely offer worse rates than CEXs and especially DEXs.

I have never used Changelly, or anything similar to it, but at the end of the day, how many coins would actually be transferred to your wallet when you use Changelly compared to a centralized exchange, for example? I am using a CEX as a comparison, because they are far more popular and record higher trading volumes than DEXs.

It's important to note that with Changelly you will get a worse exchange rate, but you pay no withdrawal fees.
When you use a CEX, you can set your own buy/sell orders, but you end up overpaying on withdrawal fees. Many CEXs still require 0.0005 BTC when withdrawing for example.

I would be interested to see a real comparison to know what is the final balance of your wallet when instant exchanges battle it out against CEXs.

My friends and family, especially my father, can't understand me replacing money with a string of symbols
They probably never will, so don't be hard on yourself because of that. On my father's birthday, I bought him an easy to understand book explaining the basics of Bitcoin. He read a few pages and never finished it. When some people get to a certain age, they lose the willingness to adopt new knowledge and change. He has been working in the banking and IT sector, has never had nasty experiences when it comes to banks and his financials, and he simply doesn't see why he should abandon a system that has worked well for him personally all his life.

When we are on the subject of explaining Bitcoin, I would say that it's a technological breakthrough comparable to the Internet and Email of the 90s. Bitcoin is the first and most successful implementation of a tech known as blockchain that has no centralized authority, allows you to control how and where you send and store your money without answering to anyone else.

First and last,  you have to  distinguish between Bitcoin and bitcoin.
Did you by any chance see my thread Do you know the difference between Bitcoin and bitcoin?  Wink
7884  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Stay away from greedy free Bitcoin offer through spam mail. on: August 04, 2021, 07:38:22 AM
I have been getting these crap spam emails as well recently. The interesting thing is that I have received them on email addresses that are not directly associated with any of my crypto activities except that I use one for some of my exchange registrations.

In my case it wasn't Monica who wanted to award me. Smiley It was Jane and Martha.

Regarding the malware, how dangerous it is for a link to easily hacked someone's device? Is it worked like that or the user need to download anything from the link?
One click is enough to download something nasty and get infected. But usually you are also required to install either a fake wallet or a script. The things you get infected with can vary from malware, keyloggers, fake software, or clipboard hijackers. It can also be an attempt to try and trick you into revealing your recovery phrase or private keys as the site could lie that a new version of your wallet is available and the old one has become obsolete for security reasons.
7885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: lost my punks and a bunch of ETH on: August 03, 2021, 06:45:30 PM
Very bad judgement by someone who was supposed to know better. From what I can see on the picture on Twitter, that is a private message that he received from that alleged CryptoPunks bot. He clicked on a link from an unknown sender, which obviously leads to a fake site. That's the equivalent of clicking on any links you receive via email as spam. If Cryptopunks organized such an anniversary, the right thing to do is to check it out by visiting the official site or social media channels and reading more about it there.

It is also not recommended to log in to MetaMask after clicking on a link on any website. Unlock your MetaMask in advance before loading the site that needs it. That way you will be alarmed if you are being asked to enter your password, download an update, or enter your seed.

So many things went wrong and were forgotten by the victim in this case. Very expensive lesson.
7886  Other / Meta / Re: NFT Topic? on: August 03, 2021, 06:22:34 PM
yes, it is a meta question for a nft board topic with a few sub topics... could all be sub tpoical to altcoins but seems like the wrong place since alts and nfts are apples and pineapples.
I disagree with you here. If Bitcoin is an orange, all other fruit aren't. The orange has its own board. Your apples and pineapples are supposed to go in the appropriate category intended for all other fruit (alts), and that is the altcoin board. Unfortunately, there are too many alternative fruit, and you can't have a separate section for each and every one of them. Only if one fruit becomes too dominant and manages to take up much of the space, it's going to make sense to store it separately from the rest. Fruit pun intended.
7887  Other / Meta / Re: Free Advertising, YES or NO on: August 03, 2021, 06:11:33 PM
Signature campaigns could exploit this by taking their time accepting the applications but requiring them to change their signature before accepting...
Yes, that's exactly right. I have never seen any off the well-known forum managers who manage bitcoin-paying signature campaigns do something like that, but there is a possibility that an outsider who is part of the team of a project attempts something like that. Make it a requirement to wear the signature and avatar when applying, and stating that the decision on who is accepted will be made one week from now. They could even take it one step further and request that the applicants like and follow the project's social media platforms. Once the deadline passes, they just disappear. And there you have it, one week of free advertising and increased social media activity.
7888  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Brand New member pay small evil fees. on: August 03, 2021, 10:19:42 AM
If your offer is legit, it's a nice community service. But you should know that it can come back to bite you in the ass. Besides, the new evil fee message that appears for those required to pay it now points to LoyceV's whitelisting thread. Every honest newbie who got affected by it through no mistake of their own, can get their account whitelisted for free.

Bump to see if the communities' stance on free advertising has changed.
7890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: List of gambling sites that allow VPN on: August 03, 2021, 07:08:48 AM
@Tessnik
You need to understand something. Even if a casino allows users to use VPNs, that doesn't mean they will be OK that you access their site from a country that is restricted. And that's what you are trying to accomplish. The use of a VPN can help you stay anonymous, but you need to be located in a jurisdiction where the casino is allowed to operate.

Let me me show you what I mean.
Casino X has banned players from the USA. If you are a US player, you are not allowed to use a VPN to trick the site into believing you are from Spain to gamble there. But if you are from Spain and you want to stay anonymous and not reveal your real location, you could use a VPN (if the casino allows it) to access the platform.
7891  Other / Meta / Re: Animated Avatar on: August 03, 2021, 07:00:56 AM
I say instead of allowing old members who already had animated avatars to keep them theymos could make a new rank which is only for members who have earned 2500+ merit, have the activity.
What makes you think legendary members are the ones who would be interested in having an animated avatar, or more precisely, those with 2.500 and more earned merits?

Let's use this thread as a case study.
If my count is correct, 11 legendary members have posted in this thread so far. Only 4 of them have +2500 merits. Not a single legendary member wears an animated avatar. Not only that, but the thread starter is the only user who has posted in this discussion and has animation in his avatar.
7892  Local / Altcoins (Hrvatski) / Re: Altcoin novosti on: August 03, 2021, 06:46:41 AM

7893  Other / Meta / Re: NFT Topic? on: August 03, 2021, 06:27:15 AM
this doesn't belong to Meta as well so you better moved this onto the Altcoins Discussion board.
btc4peace is asking a forum-related question about where to post his NFT threads. I think it does belong to Meta as he is also indirectly trying to say that a new section for NFT's should be considered. He can't ask this in the altcoin discussion board because his question would quickly be turned into a spam fast with members repeating the same old same old.
7894  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to give btc users no transaction fees. on: August 03, 2021, 06:16:05 AM
#1) If you are able to identify spamming bitcoin addresses, then you punish them by placing them on a blacklist that all miners keep and share just like they share other things. An address could stay on the blacklist for an agreed upon amount of time, say 6 months or 1 year. Whatever.
What mechanisms would be in place to prevent me and my friends to put you on that blacklist simply because I don't like you or because I am a jerk? Who decides who goes on the blacklist and who doesn't? Is it like a democratic voting system? How would you prevent that from becoming a popularity contest where those powerful enough could influence the opinions of others to make decisions that favor them?

#2) If you are able to identify spamming bitcoin addresses, you punish them financially. How that would be done is a good question but it would involve debiting their bitcoin balance.
You are proposing a system that would have a backdoor that turns Bitcoin into a custodial service where individual users aren't in full control of their money because it can be taken away from them.

Seeing as you are a trusted member of Bitcointalk, you might want to PM Tornike and see if he would be willing to make an exception. Unless they really believe that you have abused the site somehow or that you are multi-accounting, he might see to that you can get your money without selling your identity. 0.01 BTC isn't exactly pocket change I would be willing to throw away. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
7896  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout + Free BTC + Multi-Bet Insurance on: August 02, 2021, 04:48:44 PM
How about securing your gambling license? Are you already working on it?
Getting a gambling license would also mean restricting certain countries and jurisdictions and preventing them from playing on the site. Not to mention a stricter KYC policy depending on the provider of the gambling license. Most probably, that would be Curacao. if they went for a Curacao e-gambling license, players from USA, France, UK, Netherlands, and many others would no longer be welcome here.

And how about enticing gamblers to bet on your site? Any contests or promos that are about to happen?
I am in support of this. Some sites have opted for guessing the correct result, guessing the minute the first goal is scored, name of the goal scorer, or something similar. You could make it even more interesting by having players guess which team gets more bookings, has more corners, or perhaps a H2H between two teams in different matches on who scores more goals.
7897  Other / Archival / Re: Strange Work of Sorting Topics on: August 02, 2021, 04:40:21 PM
I thought it might be something browser-specific, but the same thing happens on all the browsers I tried (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). I only tried the 'sorting threads by replies' thingy and those two topics from fabioganga really do appear on both page 1 and 4 across all browsers. This is something that is best directed to theymos. He surely knows the ins and outs of this forum better than anyone else.
7898  Other / Meta / Re: Animated Avatar on: August 02, 2021, 04:18:33 PM
I didn't know that they have discontinued the usage of the animated avatar since there's the Bitvest avatar that moves.
Those who were already uploaded before theymos made the change remained. If you try adding an animated avatar now, it wouldn't work.

I don't know the reason but if it's the size that they are worried in my opinion because movements in any graphic is going to cost more data to the website.
They were too annoying. It looked like a disco on the left side of your screen. Judging by some old posts I found on that topic, you were never supposed to have the ability to upload an animated avatar. Users simple found a loophole that allowed you to upload an APNG, an animated picture if you want. When theymos found out what was going on, he simply put a stop on something that wasn't supposed to be a thing in the first place.
7899  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 02, 2021, 04:03:22 PM
I would love to see some episodes dedicated to Satoshi and Hal Finney (we can discuss about the posts made by these legends, keeping the privacy intact).
I love the idea. A segment like "Remembering Hal Finney/Satoshi"... I think that a lot of the crypto newcomers in general know very little about the people who used to write here and what contributions they made to this place in the early days. Most have heard of Satoshi, his name is a unit of bitcoin. But the new kids don't know about Gavin Andreasen or Hal Finney. Members of our community who passed away like Zepher and what made him special can also be mentioned in one of the episodes.
7900  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to give btc users no transaction fees. on: August 02, 2021, 03:49:31 PM
Well, actually, it will never stop being used. There will always be people willing to accept it as a payment method. As long as few accept it, it can be used as a store of value. Most of the gold isn't been used for jewelry & technological stuff either; the majority is kept by governments.
If you watched the movie Borat, you might remember the scene where he offers an antique dealer a bag of pubic hair as a method of payment for breaking items in his shop. It's obviously a mockery, but imagine if there was a market for quality pubic hair. That would make it a payment method as well so long there are people who are willing to trade goods and services for it. But the majority won't be thinking how much something is worth in terms of pubic hair. It would be wonderful if one day Bitcoin could become such an economy where you won't have to use fiat as a comparison. I doubt it, but we will know more in 20-30 years.
