six cards do  100 watts each so lets say it is a 700 watt power draw.

https://www.provantage.com/cyberpower-ol3000rtxl2un~7CYP909C.htm

this would back it up and your whole network

they have an EBM that would add lots of time

ebm link

https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/extended-battery-modules/bp72v60art2u/

1 ups + 1 ebm  you last for 4-6 hours

you can add a lot of these to that ups 10 of them

or 10 of these

 https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/extended-battery-modules/bp36v60art2u/

with this one
https://www.provantage.com/cyberpower-ol1500rtxl2u~7CYP900V.htm

so 1044 + 779 = 1823 to run the gpu rig for maybe 2 or 3 hours.

So I do not know  if you buy the small ups with 2 ebms or the bigger one. with 1 ebm

Yes, people need to seriously think about this, @phil.
The critical part, imho, is when to switch from accumulation to distribution (for regular funds especially).
The dude who came up with 4% safe withdrawal doctrine now says that it is actually 4.7% of 'safe" spending per year.

Basically, in US, if the family has $1mil in ret funds (which should be quite doable if you had 401K and worked for, say, 30-35 years) and $3.1/k a mo from soc sec ($1550 is average for a person), then such "average" family should have about 47K+37K=84K/year in available funds, which should be enough in most parts of US. NY-maybe 125-150K/year, but in NY most people might have accumulated more because salaries there are higher as well.

Therefore, bitcoin is mostly extra, which could be either given to next gen, to charity or to the extended family.

I have been thinking about this a lot.

I still like mining. But it involves some work and I am 64.

Plan is work to 70 .

Sell the business share I have to my partners.

Cash in 50% and hodl the rest for 5 years.

revisit the coins in 75 and decide what to cash.

If all of the above happens. I could maybe touch 2 or 3 million at 70 plus the pensions and the wifes 401k It would mean a decent living standard for us.
7903  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 26, 2021, 08:54:21 PM
I need 125k x 30 = 3,750,000

I would be 94 and who cares at that point.

I have a lot of that in the form of fed government pensions.

But I would like the 3.75mil and the pensions so that the pension can not be held over my head or my wife head.

I had cellphone a for the coinbase password recovery.

I had cellphone b unknown to all with the microsoft auth.

cell phone a was ported
password was changed as cell phone allowed for that

but email and funds need the microsoft auth on cell phone b

after this attack. I went with a different setup for safety and no longer have 35k on coinbase.

I was prepping to pay for

36x pny  a2000
2x pny    a5000
2x 12 card cases
4x pny  a2000

thus funds were on the trigger.

Busy running around and was in New York when hack happened took me 3 1/ hours to get back to my home to recover coinbase.

everyone with coin base should look ar this on their accounts you can see if someone is trying to sign in.

they first came at it from Brazil

and got in from usa

notice the six signouts

each one means they tried guessing the microsoft 6 digit code  2 times as 3 misses lock you out.

so 6 x 2 was 12 shots at 1,000,000 to 1 and by by coins.

the 1,000,000 to one is the random 6 digit microsoft app

given more time they may have grabbed the coins.

the yubi is better you need the key and can not fake it (we hope)

I also am waiting on 36 more a2000 and 3x l7

2021 was a good year. no a great year.

Now the bad news my bro in law is fully demented had a stroke and is diagnosed with dementia. he will not be getting better and may last for five to six years in diminished mental state.

it has been hard for my wife and I since dec 2019 she got sick and took until june 2021 to fully recover from covid. then her bro had the stroke in july 2021. so someone or someone else
has been sick for just about two years.

I dont wish bad health on anyone it sucks.

and more good news my coinbase account with 35k in it along with my cellphone were hacked.

but I had a second hidden phone with microsoft auth a nd the mofos got nothing.

i have been working to restore the cell that was ported illegally from me.

since dec 21 maybe on the 27th i will get it back.

So make sure you take care of your coins.

I need to thank someone here on this very thread for asking me if I had google auth or mircosoft auth vs sms text

if i did not listen to that person I would have lost 35k.

I am going back to look for the post.

Of course, it was a positive adjustment, didn't I say one week ago it's highly improbable to have a positive jump? Because 6+2-8  whatever? Didn't I say over 50k, we took a dip below! Grin Grin Grin I just hope 2022 will be better if not to mining and the price at least for me finally going over a 3% nailed predictions accuracy.

Anyhow, all in all, it was a good year, let's see what the next year and topic will bring, a bit late but:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

The New Year part is a bit early  Wink

7908  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon Miner 1166 pro 78 - stoped working after a week on: December 26, 2021, 04:23:42 AM
Hi Guys,

I've been reading over this trying to troubleshoot my personal 1166 pro 78T.

So when the device arrived, used, I discovered it had a faulty PSU.  I replaced the PSU with a brand new direct replacement PSU.  That seemed to get the miner working, but it is rebooting frequently (5-10 times an hour) and the pool never registers any consistent hashing above about 10-20th.  It did have a 7 or 8 hour stint working at a consistent 75ish th/s but I haven't been able to replicate that.

Long story short, I have tried literally every way to factory reset the miner using the PDF on Canaan's website. I have had zero luck.

Using the RST button just restarts the miner and does not reset the network settings or anything (it continued to mine after restarting with the same intermittent rebooting).  I have also tried the two methods they list in the manual near the end of the PDF in appendix 1 (can be downloaded from the link here: https://canaan.io/product/avalonminer-1166-pro)

Can someone describe the process very clearly, as if a 5 year old was following the instructions?

Thank you

what makes you think you need a factory reset.

you should show us the logs 🪵

it may be you have 1 shit board that is over heating thus reboot
you may have 1 shit fan thus factory reboot.

please show the logs 🪵 and stop trying a reset.
7909  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: December 26, 2021, 03:47:22 AM
Thank ye very much though I wouldn't call it much of a 'job'.
Aside from a very occasional 'ehem' to the few times things began to wander outside what this area of the Forum is supposed to be about I dinna have to really moderate much less delete a single message. I'm rather amazed that there was never even a single random OT or spam ad post.  Tongue

I do have to agree that some inclusion of alts has to be allowed here because the more general areas of the Forum are a morass of, well, everything - where discussions are quickly buried and/or ran off track - but I kept it limited because that is also the 'thin edge of the wedge' so to speak.

It is tough to try and be in a vacuum.

As a miner of

btc
xec
ltc/doge
gpu/eth

and a believer in btc above any form of fiat or cryptocoin I am conflicted as to what to do at times.

I see the markets for miners push us miners into certain directions and then it turns out you should reverse your course.

Right now most of my mining is on gpus mining a coin (eth) that i have zero faith in.

I sell the eth and put some to cash for bills and the rest to btc.

I would never have faith in ETH until Mr V publicly apologizes to me and returns my 2 eth coins.  that will never happen
so I mine it and dump it as fast as I can.

If I look at the major mining coins I rate BTC as the best coin there is and Doge as second best.

Doge has decreasing inflation
and btc vanishes into nothing

I am not sure which is better 100 years from now.
But today BTC is clearly the best of the bunch.

Doge’s decreasing inflation will clearly be interesting in year 50 of its existence
it simply adds x coins every year.
x
2x
3x
4x

year 50 is 50x
year 51 is 51x only 2% inflation
year 100 is 100x
year 101 is 101 x only 1% inflation

do i think it beats BTC not while I am alive.
I am 64 no kids oldest male on both sides made it to 93 so I break the record I have 30 years left.
That uncle was enjoying his life at 92 then his health failed 😨
My point is wandering quite a bit but in general The new thread will push BTC

and I want to point that the industry is having a real push against the 100kwatt miner.

this is why we are grinding out more gear ⚙️ and are now at 200kwatt

hoping to go to 300kwatt

our mine will focus on bitcoin asics for 2022.
7910  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: December 26, 2021, 02:08:08 AM
NFW did a good job despite our disagreement in regards to how far alt discussion can go, and I still do not agree with his view but I certainly respect it.

I know phill is not a "btc maxi" and thus the discussion on alt coin mining impact on btc difficulty would be more interesting next year.

Thanks NFW for hosting this year's topic and please do accept my apology if I ever crossed the line in this topic.

Happy new year everyone.

Maybe I have drifted more towards btc as the priority in this thread 🧵.

maybe we can do 0.0%.

Unfortunately, it was a positive change with 0.3184%, while this number is relatively small, the come back from -4% in a very short time could suggest that some serious "likely new" hashrate is coming in, which makes it more likely for this epoch to have a med sized jump, hopefully, nothing above 4-5%.

Wait till next year.

and I will be doing next year. Fuzzy turned it over to me.

is it going to be a mere 2x to 4x from here or do we end up having another 8x to 30x from here... either scenario could end up playing out..

I've only got small needs, so I'd settle for a modest 8x from here.

Merited as that made me smile … though I bet there are 100 other scenarios that are equally as likely …

Yeah but only one is correct.

The correct on is that the 50k number is = to the $950  number of jan 2017

we loose about 21x from jan 2017 to dec 2017

so we go 21x from dec 2021 to nov 2022

21x x 50k = $1,050,000  you read it here first.

All a result of the  covid-19 elongation of the common 4 year cycle theory.

WTFN?

At JJG you can pick at this if you please. But I know that just like me you want this theory  to be the right one. Grin

to all wo people if you have 1 BTC you are in the top 19,000,000 btc holders by default. actually much better ranking as that assumes every btc holder has exactly 1 coin.

to understand this better 1% of 8 billion is 80 million

so if you have 1 BTC you are in the top  0.25%  of the world by default and it is actually better since the btc is not spread perfectly at all.

I'm curious: OP's username looks like they're just using Bitcointalk for spam. Or they're dumb enough to get more spam on their real email address.

I believe it is both, and in addition to that the OP is trolling for attention with that spam post. I do not know why someone had to merit his post.

Dude it is Christmas Day and if we can't have some generosity on that day why bother. I gave 7 newbies a merit today Just because it is Christmas.

Now to those that complained he is a spammer or a troller.

I see that both loyceV and Maestro75 have paid signatures.  Hey I used to do paid signatures back in the day. I stopped.

oh purenails.co is uk company and they sell stuff for your fingernails.

and if the op was clever enough to make some money with his name and not a signature he deserves a merit for that.

As it will either allow many to copy his idea or the forum will end up banning member names with an @ in it.

You go Tony

It's my first post and it isn't wrong to be honest. I'm trying to get involved in crypto to make money and this website's a great place to start. People here do the same thing making money or try to make it every day. I don't have a crypto background so I'll post about things I'm good at or know about. I'd like to build up my rep because signature campaigns pay well but it isn't easy starting from nothing.

If it isn't for personal reasons what made you join? If it isn't about money it's got to be social chats, crypto trading or crypto development. Some of you joined years ago and you're still here so what's keeping you here? Sorry I'm not being nosey I'm trying to make conversation and understand what's the best way to make money from crypto.

merry christmas 🎁 here is your first merit.

post info on stuff you know about.
even if it is mostly off topic we have off topic sections
link to legit info
give proper credit to the ideas you post.

good luck and happy new year 🎊
7919  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if I don't know how to trade on: December 25, 2021, 04:42:51 PM
Sometimes when I scroll through the forum threads, I'm always amazed to see questions like; Can someone teach me how to trade? Where can I learn how to trade? How can I use indicator to trade? You know what? These questions always get what they deserves. The right answers always pop-up on the table for everyone to learn from different perspectives. Bitcontalk.org is a great library of information from substantial sources, so don't mess with it!

How can I learn how to trade? This is a question every had been asked from one time to another, from one person to another without paying much attention to what it would take to be a trader or one losing trades. Trading is just like a game of thrones. The tough will end up getting the balls rolling when the weak might have left the track due to inconsistency, fear, ignorance, weak strategies, weak risk management and greed.

You can either get trading skills here on the forum by asking questions and getting answers or attaching your time with sites/platforms that give trading lecturers, be it online or physical classes.

Are you going into trading for the money or for the knowledge?
Don't be too faster than your shadow, trading is not meant for the lazy. Don't think immediately you get into trading, you'll making money, cos time is necessarily important to gain mastery. The great traders who are making great profits from trading had already sow the seed and now reaping their harvest so let's be patient. Don't rush cos slow and steady wins the race..."Power of consistency" with brain not just working blindly.

Get the skill before going for the money. More money is the goal but a sacrifice has to made. We need to learn thoroughly become dexterously brilliant to analyze the market. Do fool yourself with greed or over curiosity cos it might lead to confusion not necessarily becoming a short term deficiency but a continuous defect that can relinquish our faculty of the market.

I will give you a one year and one week course on trading.

pick a shit coin.

say doge

buy 10 usd of it 52 weeks in a row.

no matter what happens to the coins value hodl it

the cost would be $520  on the 53rd week send me a pm and post back here in this thread.

if you can not hodl that coin all that time if you can not pay the $10 a week for more coin most likely you will not be a good trader.

you fail the patient and discipline test.

good luck in whatever you do.

If I'm being blackmailed by somebody who asks me to buy bitcoin and pay it to their account why can I not report this to bitcoin?

Actually you can report to the police.

I routinely get emails saying

“ i took over your computer and recorded you watching porn and pleasuring yourself send me bitcoin” I could report this to the local police and the fbi or not.

Since I have no camera on my pc I know the blackmailing piece of shit does not have me on film.

so I smile and do nothing. I suggest you  do the same
