7922  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Should I make a legacy, segwit or native segwit wallet? (Electrum) on: February 11, 2020, 03:20:14 PM
If you are totally new to crypto, then you should make a legacy address and it will serve your purpose. I am still using the legacy wallets ever since I made them a long time ago and didn't find any need to switch to the segwit wallet.

Why though? There's almost no reason to use legacy addresses now besides a few exceptions. It's not like SegWit addresses are harder to use, as the user experience pretty much the same. And who doesn't like cheaper transaction fees?
Some services or people want you to only use addresses you can sign messages from. Unfortunately you can't sign messages from segwit addresses in most(all?) wallets as of now.
7923  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.com ID format question on: February 11, 2020, 01:44:58 PM
The miner broadcasts the new block to other nodes in the network. Other nodes know the blockchain history, so they can independently verify that the new block is valid. Broadcasting the entire blockchain with every block would be very resource intensive.
You didn't understand the question obviously. Koch44 was talking about blockchain.com the web wallet and the ID you get there when you create an account...  Undecided

@Koch44
They claim that's a random process, here :
Quote
Your Wallet ID is a string of random letters and numbers that acts as a username.
https://www.blockchain.com/en/learning-portal/wallet-faq

Quote
A wallet identifier, also known as a wallet ID, is like a username. You use it, along with your password, to log into your Blockchain.com wallet and access your digital assets. A wallet identifier is composed of 32 alphanumeric characters and 4 dashes, and takes the following format:

xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Every wallet has a unique identifier.

7924  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin Cross $20,000 By the end of 2020? on: February 11, 2020, 01:30:42 PM
Approx. yes, it may reach $20,000 if only we can maintain the trend. But if we dump more, just as we saw today from 10k+ to 9.8K... it might be hard to really reach 20k.
A $400 drop in the price in a single day isn't exactly a good indication of what's to come in the upcoming weeks or months. In fact, such a small pullback could mean that we're bulding a strong floor before testing 10k and above very soon, so if there's a bigger dump, then there'll be some support around the current prices (9850 at the time of writing).

Also, these sort of price changes are still within the range of what many consider normal fluctuations in the cryptosphere. All in all, it's still very likely that we'll see 20k this year.
What link do you make between a so-called support at 10k in february and a rise till 20k before the end of the year?

IMO it will be very hard for bitcoin to reach its ATH during the next 10 months, it would represent +100% from the current price, it's a huge amount.

Moreover I don't understand why people are talking about 2017 here  Huh There was no halving in 2017!

7925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which is easier, stop when you are winning or stop when you are losing? on: February 11, 2020, 01:00:06 PM
I think for everyone else, it is very difficult to stop when winning because the vibes and excitements it brings makes you want to continue.

Likewise, it is equally had to stop when losing.

But for me, i have my limits when betting, so either i win excessively or lose distinctively. I am unshaked.
What do you call "your limits"? You have limits on the total amounts you are betting or limits on the amounts you are losing/winning?
If you have limits on the amounts lost or won you can't win or lose excessively.

FUD comme d'habitude, cette histoire date de 2014... Peut-être qu'il va déverser ses XRP, ou peut-être pas, comme peut-être que les hackeurs de bitfi' et Mtgox peuvent déverser du jour au lendemain 1 million de BTC...

7927  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Blockchain.com Phishing e-mail! on: February 11, 2020, 11:45:53 AM
although in the case of blockchain wallet users have the ability to create a backup.
Since several years it's not a simple backup anymore, it's a real bip39 seed that you can import in other wallets.

Quote
Our wallet implements BIP44 to generate accounts and addresses, and the recovery mnemonic/seed (present in legacy wallets created in 2016 and prior) implements BIP39. The seed is compatible with other BIP44/BIP39 bitcoin wallets.

7928  Economy / Economics / Re: Bakkt is done? on: February 11, 2020, 11:10:07 AM
sad reality, in 2019 Bakkt was used as material for FOMO Bitcoin and after Baakt was launched it looked disappointing, this made me think about Eth 2.0 information, and Halving Bitcoin this year, would it be like Baakt's fate?

We can talk about Bakkt's fate after it's been established for 5-10 years. Until then it's still finding its feet. There'll be dead phases. There'll be explosive phases.

Anyone who expected Bakkt to singlehandedly ignite a dead market is a twat. It's one solitary service for a small number of people. It might facilitate further bullishness when the time comes, it certainly doesn't magic it up out of thin air.
I'm not sure you were saying that before its disappointing launch. The mainstream narrative in medias depicted Bakkt as highly expected by institutional investors, in order to be able to invest in Bitcoin. Obviously it was false, they were satisfied with cash-settled futures on CME and CBOE exchanges.

7930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: URL and Hyperlink! on: February 11, 2020, 10:15:05 AM
That's some scary shit. Looks like the good ol' right-click, copy, paste would do the trick.

No, you can't do that to solved it. The fact if you're do copy and paste or right-click on that link, it's wouldn't show the real link.
The best way to prevent this is right click on the link and click Inspect. So you will see the fake link and real link

Huh I don't understand what you mean. If you copy and paste the text of the link how you could be tricked?
You're wrong IMO, doing a basic copy and paste of the text is safe.
If you get a pasted text different from the one copied, it just means you have a clipboard hijacker malware on your computer...
7931  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Trust Wallet Safe ? How to get Private Keys ? on: February 11, 2020, 09:12:59 AM
I use Trust Wallet to store most of my BEP2 and some ETH tokens. While I don't recommend using it as your cold storage, so far I found no high-level security risk especially if you have good security practices. It works on multiple chains too so it's convenient if you need a hot wallet that support multiple chains.
Do you know a way to get the BEP2 private keys from Trust wallet please?
I'm looking for that.
I think it's the main weak point of Trust wallet : not being able to directly access the private keys  Embarrassed
7932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: URL and Hyperlink! on: February 11, 2020, 08:34:25 AM
There are some protections on bitcointalk against that :

 • If a link points outside the forum it will be dispayed in blue when you hover over it while it will be displayed in green otherwise

When you hover over with mouse over link that is outside this forum, color will be blue

When you hover over link and you see green color, that is link inide Bitcointalk forum.

 • When you try to impersonate a bitcointalk url, the real one is displayed instead :

https://bitcointalk.org
will give
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperlink
and not

7933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Leave gambling, if it destroys you. on: February 11, 2020, 12:36:42 AM
Yes you are free to leave gambling world if you feel that it is destroying you especially your family, once if this gambling really affects your family then this would be the time you really need to stop gambling because gambling may give you a lot of problems especially if this gambling is one of the reasons why you are having a hard time with your family. Stop if you feel that gambling is not for you or else you will just suffer a huge lose on it.
Unfortunately I don't think it's so easy to do. You gamble because you hope to get rich and it's very hard to convince yourself to give up the dream of your life, it's like giving up the aim of your life.
7934  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on: February 11, 2020, 12:27:45 AM
Is this event got covered or featured by some of the popular crypto-gambling betting sites before?

I am not sure about this, but there are enough crypto bookmakers being present in this forum, so you could ask them, if they are willing to add some market(s).
TYVM for this thread tyKiwanuka

Well, last year it was available at least on cloudbet.com, sportsbet.io and onehash.com

Europe and Eurovision are not the same Wink You have quite some non-european countries taking part in ESC (Israel, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Australia), taking part in the past (Morocco) or maybe wanting to take part in the future (Kazakhstan).

It’s the same like in UEFA football, where you have non-european teams playing in UEFA competitions as well (the above mentioned apart from Australia and Morocco).
Yes in fact the contest is open to all countries of the COE (Council of Europe) and few selected guests like Australia.

This is the first time I'm hearing of the Eurovision song contest. Thanks to the link posted by : @mu_enrico. Now I know what the contest is about and I'm thrilled to experience it. That said, I wanted to know if the contest won't be available on some betting sites or if there's anyone that will support the contest. If what everyone is saying on this thread is true, then I'm in for an entertaining contest.
LOL WTF where are you living man?  Cheesy
It's one of the biggest TV event in the world with the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games...

7937  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multi crypto wallet for Android version 4 on: February 10, 2020, 09:57:38 PM
I'm not sure bip38 is very suitable for beginners because they need to manage an additional information. The iancoleman page allows to create HD paper wallet with a seed, it can be a good solution for beginners since they just need to remember the mnemonic seed with that.
Most paper wallet generators, like the offline version of https://www.bitaddress.org/, have bip38 encryption build right into the tool... Just click the "paper wallet" tab and enter a strong password... That's all.
I agree with you it's quite easy to create one, but it could be confusing for beginners, because it can be hard for them to understand why they got a private key, an address and a password, they could easily confound the address and the private key moreover, so you need to be very educational if you do that IMO.

Iancoleman's page (at least the offline version) is nice to, like you say, it's basically a HD paper wallet, but missing the encryption... The bottom line is that we agree that a paper wallet is a good idear for somebody who can't affort a decent phone nor a decent home computer Smiley
Yes he can safely store his funds into paper wallets and use his old phone as an everyday wallet with only small amounts in it.
For example he can dispatch his funds into several paper wallets and then only import one wallet at once time to spend his funds.
7938  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Leverage trading for USA? on: February 10, 2020, 09:11:44 PM
Is it possible to leverage trades within the US? Which sites have this option? Do US traders need a VPN? Is this safe? Thanks!

i hate relying on VPN and violating terms. it always makes me nervous about the safety of my funds.

unlike most derivatives exchanges, kumex explicitly allows USA customers. they offer up to 100x leverage on their XBT perpetual swap contract:
https://www.kumex.com/contract/guide/XBT
https://www.kucoin.com/news/en-kumex-perpetual-contract-increases-maximum-leverage-to-100x/?utm_source=tftj

the market depth isn't amazing but it has significantly improved since last year, probably because they upped their leverage limits. the perpetual swap contract is liquid enough that i can comfortably trade there now.
Interesting. It's a kind of Bitmex clone made by Kucoin...
Do you know if the fees are the same as on Bitmex? Are the funding fees negative when you short on a perpetual swap, like on Bitmex?
