Facebook is now too much with monetizing data that's where it is going
wrong IMO.
I get that, it's even more annoying with GDPR now that means all the terms and conditions have been rewritten and you have to read through them all (OK, I love a good contract so that wasn't actually so bad, but it just makes stuff you previously agreed to more obvious).

I am not sure if everyone is facing this problem or not... it takes longer time to load the contents on FB now a days especially when I use it from my computer.
Yes.
Sometimes my laptop crashes when trying to load faceook also (or it doesn't load the list on the right - or sync it often).

Anyway my point was adding some features like: receive notification when someone mentioning your username, a follow button or something that will enable your to receive notifications when your favorite user create a topic or post a comment etc. Some new features for better user experience.

Yes, I do like the merit feature and I am sure there are a lot of people like me who finds extra energy to do more because their work gets recognized.
Yes this would be good but you'd also have to be able to include a way to tag someone and people might spam it also and one might get a lot of notifications when they are unnecessary.

Who has a lot of money, why should he sit on this forum? Who has the high-level knowledge, is engaged in business, and not posting unnecessary messages.

I'm here mostly to learn. Sure, I get paid by my signature and I might not be here as often (might only come here a few times a week instead) if I didn't but the main reason you should be here is knowledge. Everyone who has Bitcoin should want it to be adopted more because then the value of their Bitcoin increases if there is a greater demand for its purchase.
7962  Economy / Services / Re: Cryptocurrency Instagram Usernames For Sale (@ico, @eos, @lisk & @kraken) on: June 18, 2018, 10:06:28 PM
Can you prove that you actually own @ico ?

Doubtful. According to their instagram, they were a company made in '92.

I'm using bitsler if that helps.

@jackg thanks for the info

Look at how their provably fairness works (I can't access the site without making an account).
Most likely it's a few seeds that they use to get the number for your dice roll.
7964  Economy / Gambling / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot -Multi-Site, multi-strategy betting bot for dice. With Charts! on: June 18, 2018, 08:27:52 PM

I'm curious about something. On provably fair sites, does the time since the last bet effect the roll?

I'm thinking about using the manual betting option to compensate when the balance dries up. I.e. deposit more and then manually continue the betting sequence (my pattern increases bet on loss). But this might happen a few hours after the bot stopped, which is why I ask.

I think it depends on the site that you're using, but there were a lot of issues with using timings on provably fair sites (who's time do you use for example and what if it's out by a few milliseconds and someone picks you up on it as a site owner and demands their bet back)?

Though the stats vary from site to site.

@Seuntjies, can I connect to this bot through tor? /Do I just use https://127.0.0.1:9050 with tor open in the background or is this not possible?

I have not looked into tor support at all. I'm not familiar with the technical details of how tor works. You can try to use your tor node as a proxy server and see if it works but I can't give any guarantees. Note that not all sites in DiceBot has proxy support.

Thanks for the help anyway seuntjie!

Tor's 9050 port is just a SOCKS5 proxy. If the bot supports SOCKS5, then it does. However, connection reliability is less on tor than on the normal internet.
It's not much different. I have a fast enough itnernet for it to not have too much of an effect, maybe double the time for the data to go through but not much.

Bonus:
I suggest you stop calling anyone else in the forum with Sir, Mr., etc. because these words show that you are from third world.

What's wrong with that?

Bonus
I suggest you ignore bonuses that aren't so helpful (it's not difficult to ignore).

I think most people just find it annoying in the way that it's used. It's usually always followed with a load of begging or whining by illiterate spammers who overuse it when they are pleading for their account back after being banned for spamming/copy and pasting or whatnot. I get that they're probably just trying to be polite, but it always just comes across as sycophant-ish and fake to me and many others seem to feel the same way.

<snip>but it always just comes across as sycophant-ish and fake to me and many others seem to feel the same way.
Yep, and this is another example of the huge clash of cultures here on bitcointalk.  The people who use "sir" when applying for a sig campaign or asking for their well-deserved feedback to be removed are not just being polite.  They will say anything to get a spot in that campaign or to get a red trust rescinded, and the constant "sir" is just an extension of being disingenuous.

I use "sir" as an informal sign of respect at my job, much the way a prison guard might call an inmate "sir".  That is much, much different than what we usually see on bitcointalk--and no matter how many times this gets pointed out, they still keep writing it.

These are just your predispositions though. You should really teach yourself to ignore stuff that "pads out" posts in this way. Like saying things like "sir" and other manners people may use.

If you're a new user here, you don't know how ranks works and don't know whether they should respect people of higher ranks to them.
It's not always to ask if someone can remove the negative trust or a campaign rejection they got.

I don't get why there is so much against the use of a three letter word, there more issues here than people saying 'sir'.
7967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core questions on: June 18, 2018, 04:09:47 PM
At the moment I'm using a 256Gb external SSD to store the blockchain and wallet. This is really too small, and there are recommendations that you should only use half the storage for optimum life and performance. The 1Tb that everybody is suggesting would seem to be good for a few years. I wouldn't use an external HDD, I don't think it is as reliable if you are moving around, and it seems to take twice as long to sync as an SSD. You can also move the drive between computers as well by just plugging the drive into an USB port. If you are doing this, you should ensure that each of the installed core programs is the same version.

I'd use this idea with caution. I'd suggest you backup your drive to another drive every week or so.

Also, only use wallets on computers you own and control that aren't likely to be affected by what other people have done on them being logged in (scan the drive regularly for viruses also just in case it picks one up as you move it between computers).

Your hard drive is quite slow also OP. I'm using a hard drive and it says that the entire install should have been completed in a week (it's on a laptop so I'm not going to leave it on that long - mainly because it crashes).
I should also point out that I have a lot of other programs that are very processor intensive and my processor speed is only about 5GHz (dual core 2.5GHz).

A typical bitcointalk topic!
Hey digaran can't you offer a free service to Gleb? (/s)
We moved on to calming quickseller - away from digaran.

Time to lock maybe?

This disucssion was over until you bumped it!
7969  Other / Meta / Re: Its just a Question sir! on: June 18, 2018, 01:30:19 PM
What's wrong with that?
Spammers ruined this word. I've never seen a non third world spammer using "sir".

So I kinda think like OP.

Yes but there are non spammers that use the word "sir" also?
It's like a kid thinking you can't get negative numbers.

Be a bit more level headed in the way you view things both of you, otherwise, I'd put you in the category of ruining this world more than spammers.

Bonus:
I suggest you stop calling anyone else in the forum with Sir, Mr., etc. because these words show that you are from third world.
What kind of problem do you have from people from the third world? Do you count them as not deserved to be on the forum or what? The guy is just trying to be polite.

Exactly a question I want answering from both of you (tbct_mt2 and TryNinja). Either of you care to take a stab at it?
7970  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day - Why old members are no longer active here on: June 18, 2018, 01:00:16 PM

Has Gmaxwell actually left, he was logged on fairly recently?

We still have users from quite a long time ago still however, like ThomasV.
And Theymos is obviously still here.

Lack of innovation is the one I guess killing the forum. In addition with you example:
Consider Facebook in 2010/11 and now. Back in those days Facebook used to look like a simple php driven website and now it a massive application with enormous features.
Bad example: I liked Facebook more back then, before they forced a timeline and started deciding for me what I want to see (because they earn from it).
I've seen several forums "innovate", and in all cases I liked the old version better. For me, a forum doesn't have to change it's looks and behaviour once it works well and I know where to find stuff. A forum upgrade would also mean existing scrapers won't work anymore.
I do like the added Merit though, and I'd love to see more upgrades like it.

That's true, with every facebook and messenger update I always sit wondering what they could possible have done to make it any different from how it was that would benefit the user (I think a lot of stuff they do now is for maximising profit). I don't think your data had as much value in 2010 (there's also the google incident and how they've changed what was a perfectly good logo). ?

He waited four days for a pizza, maybe that's why he left!
$43 back then was enough for at least 2 pizzas and no one took him up on it for four days (that being said, I hadn't even heard of bitcoin back then but I was very young so that's my excuse)...

I believe more in Toshiba than Seagate and WD, not because Toshiba is better if you ask a lot of persons but because of my personal experience with them. I have different mining rigs and the ones with Toshiba SSD starts up faster always and are the ones with less problems. OCZ Trident is my favorite from Toshiba, so surely getting a Toshiba.

Yeah Toshiba is good also their stuff is pretty reliable.
7973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core questions on: June 18, 2018, 11:26:22 AM
Thank you all for your answers, since all of you are saying 1TB is enough I am taking a 4TB external hard drive because it just costs about 45 EUR more here where I am. I don't see it why it shouldn't support Sata in the long run. Maybe it will continue to grow in number like from Sata3 to Sata4 and so on but it should support it.

I mean you're probably just using a USB drive so the sata bit isn't significant as it has its sata connectors built in.

Make sure you get a drive from a good company also (Seagate is my favourite but others here like WD if you wanted a suggestion).

I'm. Locking this now, if anyone comes up with anything more then PM me.

The CEO will be keeping an eye on how the employees use the account though.
The owner of primedice afaik is stunna, I'm not sure whether primedice is an incorporated entity and by business, I meant Incorporated entity. If you could find the documents to state this?

And I think I am pricing them a bit low but that makes the loan more secure. I also base my predicted amount on how much I know a user, for example, I increased my limit for a member of this forum a while back and he repayed me back - with a bit of a delay though but I still got everything back.

I am fairly certain that primedice is incorporated somewhere, I want to say Costa Rica, but I am not 100% sure. I do know that stunna is one of the owners but is not the only owner, and am fairly certain he is not even a majority owner. PD recently got a new CEO.

Bitstamp is an incorporated entity, specifically the name of the entity is "Bitstamp LTD" but I can assure you there is not public information about who its shareholders are, who ultimately make high level decisions regarding the business.

I have no idea if it you are appropriately pricing your loans, however as I previously said, if you are offering too small of loans, then you are missing out on interest income. I would find it hard to believe that, as a lender, you would not want to know what accounts are selling for so you can have more information about how much to lend to a particular user, and so a user who cannot repay what he is borrowing knows he has an alternative to taking out a loan from you.

You're missing the point here. Every account is slightly differen, previous trades, posting style and the length the person has been here is all that I rely on.
Bitstamp is an incorporated entity, specifically the name of the entity is "Bitstamp LTD" but I can assure you there is not public information about who its shareholders are, who ultimately make high level decisions regarding the business.

It's completely off topic as is your blatant shilling for account sales, but maybe this will make you go away:

You can now disappear from here QS thanks to suchmoon's discovery.
7976  Other / Meta / Re: Its just a Question sir! on: June 18, 2018, 01:04:02 AM
My prediction is that the merit system will not last long enough for this to be a major issue.

However if you have a long history of contributing, but don't have sufficient merit to rank up, someone may decide to give you sufficient merit to rank up.

Thanks sir for this word, hope someday I earn merit to rank here in the forum because I try my best to make more quality post and learn more to improve my self.

You don't really need a high rank here. Its more what you have to say than the rank you are depending on what you're here for of course. If you're here for the right reasons: learn about crypto, spread the word or participate in meaningful discussion then you will likely earn merit and rank up from it.
7977  Economy / Reputation / Re: Gleb Gamow account was sold Proof on: June 18, 2018, 12:53:24 AM
but this is exactly the issue because the same would still apply after the account changes hands and why it could have easily been abused.
If you can sell an account for $600 but can only borrow $400 against it's reputation, it would be irrational for the buyer to buy the account and subsequently take out a loan he has no intent on repaying.

A healthy and transparent market would make it easier for lenders to judge how much it would be safe to trust an account with via a no-collateral loan.

You should already be able to predict the value for youself and set limits on what you'd lend to specific lenders based on their reputation(I have mine).
You may or may not be correct in the limits you set. Your limits may be too high, and you have simply been lucky in terms of your loan losses, or they may be too low, and you are missing out on potential interest income.

Other lenders may not come to the same conclusions as you have, and may not have sufficient information to be comfortable lending any amount without collateral.

I am fairly confident that accounts are still being traded, it is only that they are being done in a blackmarket type setting and prices are not public. Making this information public would give lenders additional data points when deciding to make a loan.

What if one of the staff gets fired and the business hires someone else to handle whatever the account was handling?

The identities of owners are generally private information (although they are sometimes voluntarily made public for a variety of reasons). If I am understanding you correctly, you believe this should be made public?

If I make an account and make a PLC, LLC or LTD company, I have to list myself as the owner of the company. My account can then be traced back to that company and therefore someone can find all the shareholders/owners/directors of that company. That information is already public knowledge so you may as well link it to the account.
Why don't you tell me where I can find the names of the shareholders and directors of PrimeDice and Bitstamp LTD?

Before you spend too much time looking, I will start by telling you this information is not public, although some companies may choose to make some of it public.

And NO, if the primary account holder (the CEO) changes, then it should be stated publicly somewhere - even if just a way to advertise the company as there's another thread with your company's name on it.
Much of the time, the company account will not be used by the CEO. If you look at NitrogenSports's account, you will see it is clearly run by a team of customer service reps. Often times, business accounts are run by fairly low level employees, and their employment status is similarly often not public information.

The CEO will be keeping an eye on how the employees use the account though.

7978  Other / Meta / Re: This is why merit sources shouldn't be known publicly. on: June 17, 2018, 10:24:25 PM
I don't even thing it's because you're a known merit source Jet.

I get those PMs now and then asking how to get merit and such.
I usually don't report them because I'm too busy laughing at how all of their posts seem to be in the altcoin threads and other spam hotspots on the forum.

I agree with Welsh and think that they could just be pointed in the right direction, they're still salvagable from that point.
7979  Other / Off-topic / Re: MKV to MP4 converters? on: June 17, 2018, 09:39:59 PM
You could search the top 10 video converters in google, I always use CNET converters.

I could but then I'd end up with a biased report usually as to who is the best (the highest website is usually the one that has earnt the most from affiliate commision or commision for advertising in articles).

Does anyone know of any fast converters from MKV to MP4 on Windows.
I would use cloudconvert but it's a few gigabytes so it's a bit too big.
I also tried VideoLAN but it seems to go through the video fram-by-frame at normal time so that's very slow.

I've been using Handbrake for couple of years now. You have presets for android, iPod, iPad, Apple TV etc.
And it's free.
The speed depends on your pc specs. You can't blame the software. Decoding and re-encoding takes time.
Thanks I've downloaded that. It predicted 2 hours which was a bit faster than VLC so I'll see how it goes...
7980  Other / Meta / Re: I understood why I do not get merit. on: June 17, 2018, 08:25:12 PM
1. Nobody knows when he will get a merit

Please send 1btc to the address in my signature immediately!

Doing so will prove in a court of law that you understood your mistake and made immediate changes to correct it.

This suggestion to change "he" to a gender neutral term constitutes my legal advice.  You are no longer liable for any damages once you send the 1btc payment.

But then both of you are liable for a 1BTC charge to me.

1. Nobody knows when he will get a merit
2. Never rely on receiving a merit
Both of these are true, otherwise the system will get tricked into giving merit when it is not due.

3. Do not tell anyone about the merit
You appear to have not learnt your lesson here.

4. No one owes you merit
5. And merit himself does not
6. Because it simply merit
Who's merit?

10. Merit is received - when they forget about it
yes
