7981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright recognised by US Govt as Satoshi, author of white paper on: May 21, 2019, 12:43:37 PM
He may have the side of the US gov't when it comes to trademarking bitcoin, but we as the community know that the guy is a fraud and we can easily ignore whatever he launches for the good of many. If it is proven that he indeed is not Satoshi, I know for a fact that the Aussies will chase after him knowing so well that he used the said identity and the non-existent control over a million coins to gain something regarding Aussie taxes. At the end of the day, it's only a government approval; community opinions still rule in this ecosystem.
7982  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can We Expect A Legally Compliant Bitcoin Bank Soon? on: May 21, 2019, 08:27:51 AM
A dream, and a distant one at that. Fiat banks are already fully-operational, and can pretty much integrate the things you mentioned into their platform. Crypto-only banks would struggle to make its footing in the financial world and would be having a hard time to get some operational profit, knowing how limited their scope is and how little their target market is compared to commercial banks.

Also, bitcoins and crypto are aimed to make people their own banks without relying to third-party services, so..

7983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Less than 1 Year for Block Halving on: May 21, 2019, 04:41:46 AM
Wouldn't put my hopes up for such figures just yet, but perhaps it could set us on a good base price (say, $20000) before getting on the big pushes. That's still a conservative guesstimate but we all know how propped the market is right now and know so well that with all the hype and fame bitcoin is getting lately, it's not impossible for the FOMO to go crazy. Add to that the growing economic tensions between different countries where one is forced to give up their local currency and the only avenue is bitcoin (hint: China lol).
7984  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are We Going Back to $7,000? on: May 20, 2019, 11:25:57 PM
Strong support is placed at $7500 on most exchanges right now though that doesn't mean that it can't be pulled off by whoever owns that at any given moment. Right now I won't recommend buying, but the insane dip just a few days ago would have been a nice buy if you are keen on what's happening with the market at that time. $7900 is currently a fragile price point and I wouldn't suggest buying at this range. Perhaps if we climb back down $7500 or lower, buying would be good.
7985  Economy / Economics / Re: Jobs Created by the Blockchain & Bitcoin on: May 20, 2019, 09:59:07 PM
I'm surprised no one mentioned jobs relating to customer support and public relations in here. Most jobs mentioned are geared towards programming and software development which is understandable. Anyway, with more and more services blockchain helped create, the need for public relations and customer help also rises, and that's where CSR and public relations positions become handy and in-demand. People need to know what blockchain really is, and so these guys at the front desk will help them explain just that.
7986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A notary office in China uses blockhain on: May 20, 2019, 07:50:41 PM
Eh, probably some centralized ledger/database system that's just been turned into a 'blockchain' for hyping purposes and not really a true blockchain to begin with. Anyhow, if the Chinese are confident into using blockchain in their legal services (if it's indeed one), then I guess the rest of the world will follow suit with their own applications of the said tech (as was always hinted from the very beginning).

We all have our own justified definitions of the blockchain that the word itself is vaguely and loosely used in a lot of situations. Now I don't want to be a 'know-it-all' dude but it seems that this is just another private, centralized database tagged as a 'blockchain' by some random article.
7987  Economy / Economics / Re: Dont believe on sale on: May 20, 2019, 01:29:07 PM
Sales are just a way for producers and merchants to still get back the initial cost of their produce and removing the mark-up price they imposed on the said items. Normally, people would be enticed to buy things that are on sale but in reality they are just paying for the production cost of the item, nothing more. It has been instilled on the minds of people that buying during a sale saves them money, but if they don't need it and it's just another want, they basically just spent money into something still, and that's different from saving.
7988  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: easy bite for scammers on: May 20, 2019, 12:12:31 PM
Scammers can't bea easily nabbed because most of them use fake identification even though they are appearing on most of the ads they placed. If they are the real guys behind such services, they'd be easily arrested if a case was filed against them, but most of them are still freely roaming around and just waiting for the next opportunity to introduce yet another service and scam people. Regulations and laws are already becoming stricter, but without a governing body scrutinizing such services up to its core, I don't think scammers using these avenues would thin out.
7989  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: I wonder if this is the reasonable motive why Cryptopia goes bankcrupt on: May 20, 2019, 04:02:29 AM
Seems to be fraud in local laws unless NZ follows a certain standard regarding bankruptcy. That shouldn't be legal in any way considering that their customers used BTC, they should get BTC or any other tokens that their customers were holding at the time. Regardless, as long as Cryptopia paid customers, be it NZD or crypto, the NZ government would treat the case as solved, unless customers filed a petition to reopen the case for unjust rulings.
7990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CBS '60 Minutes' 5/19/19 on Bitcoin. Will it cause FOMO or FUD? (Take the Poll!) on: May 20, 2019, 02:57:57 AM
Lack of in-depth explanation as to how bitcoin really works and how the community came up to where it is right now. Only watched the first 10 minutes and never bothered to continue further. People would only get interested at first because it's bitcoin hitting the news once more, but the interest can only go so much because none of the people in there knew what they were actually talking.

It's great to have bitcoin on media again, but with these guys? Meh.
7991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do people still think bitcoin is following stock market? on: May 19, 2019, 05:17:35 PM
There are a lot of times in which stock market movements coincided with bitcoin's, though that isn't sufficient to use as evidence since on most significant events of contemporary times, say trade wars between China - US and Iran - US, bitcoin continuously rose while some stocks fell down and the Dow painted red everywhere. I would believe that the two are related if on major events, bitcoin and stock market movements are extremely similar, but so far that has been defied and we are yet to see bitcoin ultimately following the shadow of the stock markets.
7992  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Scammed by Bitblender!? on: May 19, 2019, 05:02:37 PM
Move this to Service Discussion.

I don't think you've been scammed as there had been cases such as this wherein they have processed the mixes late, or just not on time with their system. Best thing to do is contact their handle here on bitcointalk directly or send them a ticket and sort things from there. If they have scammed you off your money, they'll have to lose more than what they scammed you. How much are you mixing anyway?
7993  Economy / Economics / Re: Your Source of Investment Money? on: May 19, 2019, 02:41:10 PM
I get my funds on investing bitcoin with the business I made by investing bitcoin (lol). Basically, a huge portion of my salary back in 2014 I have invested into bitcoin and turned into fiat in 2017, then converted that cash into a business which now pays for my mortgage and my bitcoin investments as well. I still love working as a part-timer here and still get a decent sum from what I'm doing but majority of my funds are coming in now from my business. Sometimes I do freelancing work here and there. It helps pay the bills and satisfies some 'play money' when I like to trade.
7994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early Adopter Proves Ownership of Bitcoin Address Claimed by Wright on: May 19, 2019, 01:40:42 PM
A famous quote from a game I used to play: "The fucker got fucked."

For some persona as Craig S. Wright who never had the courage to prove his detractors wrong, this is justice served, not only for the whole bitcoin community which he tried to play but also to the Australian government he tried to game by telling them that he has x amount of coins stashed in <insert whatever address CSW wants to disclose here>. He literally faked it until he made it, though just within headlines but never to the trust of people in the community. I wonder when will this 'fraud' be put behind bars?

And interestingly, how would he battle such court cases he dared file against his detractors? Roll Eyes
7995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacked Cryptocurrency Exchange Cryptopia Goes Into Liquidation on: May 17, 2019, 10:31:56 PM
I see DEXes as faraway platforms with little community support. Most DEXes springing are just obscure platforms with little to no trading volume in them. Even with the risk of getting hacked, traders would still choose an active, centralized exchange over a secure DEX with no volume any day. Cryptopia among others, is a great example of how insecure CEXes can be yet still be trusted by people. Perhaps a known CEX could turn into a DEX in the future, though we know that the latter isn't as profitable as the former so it's kind of far-fetched.
7996  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are bitcoin whales complete morons? on: May 17, 2019, 09:47:07 PM
The recent dump back to $6000 is a definite example that some of them are indeed morons, or perhaps it's just some sort of error on the side of the whales. We will never know the reason why would someone dump that big on a single exchange. It could very well be one shakeout/bull trap and some people may have taken the bait as was evidenced by the volumes of sell orders on different exchanges during the same time. At this point, the momentum for the bulls is still strong and we can still afford a lot of 'mistakes' from whales (hopefully).
7997  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will spending Bitcoin actually be bad for the price? on: May 17, 2019, 07:20:37 PM
If you have a lot of merchants wanting to convert their bitcoins into fiat all at the same time, that, my friend, is what would cause the price to crash. But in a society and economy where bitcoin is basically accepted on par with fiat currencies as is, then we might be talking of something good in here and not something that could be detrimental for the price. Right now the main focus of people as to why they are buying bitcoins is because they wanted profit and earn more than what they initially bought for. When this focus is shifted towards just using bitcoin as is with the rest of the world, I don't think price would matter by then. Perhaps in time the whole world would accept bitcoin on par with fiat and never would the need for conversion be present again.
7998  Economy / Speculation / Re: after only a few days the bitcoin has gone up, but now it's starting to fall aga on: May 17, 2019, 06:56:50 PM
Someone must have pushed the panic button for the whales as it seems that there had been thousands upon thousands of bitcoins offloaded earlier today. Also, some people already panicked in line with that dump resulting for the price to touch sub-$7000 briefly. Anyways, some correction is still good in order to guarantee that the next pushes is already in good shape and no sudden drops in price would be seen. One way or another, correction and dumps are going to happen, too, so this is all good IMO.
7999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a coffee using BTC during current times? on: May 17, 2019, 05:57:29 PM
I think not, but I will certainly take this opportunity to buy high-valued items while the price of 1 bitcoin is high. Buying coffee is the least of my concerns, especially using bitcoin. I can buy coffee easily using my debit cards and my cash, and I don't even think coffee shops around me accept bitcoins already so yeah. The fees are also ridiculously high for a single purchase of a $4 coffee so I don't think it's really worth it at all. Well if I could make money out of that coffee perhaps that's a purchase I'd like to take, lol.
8000  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fee has gone up by 10x during the last two weeks on: May 17, 2019, 07:35:48 AM
I'd stick to whatever fee I'm using as confirmation times don't matter much to me, and RBF is also a thing now so I'd just adjust according to whatever suitable fee my tx needed in order to get faster confirmations. I don't know much about other people though, but one can always move funds around still, and the higher fees only constitutes to the priority for your tx, not the confirmation forthe tx per se. Also, this only happens because most people wants to get a taste of the price action, but once everything normalIze, fees would also come down.
