81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Biggest Downfall on: June 01, 2011, 09:05:38 PM
i thought it was

  • Lack of physical possession(thus, MUST NEED OTHERS)
  • small transaction are "stress"
  • quantum computing breaks public-private crypto
82  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long until difficulty resets again? on: June 01, 2011, 09:01:10 PM
every 2016 blocks it changes.

6 potatoes a minute - but i'm thinking of going electric.  it's tough getting up in the morning and running all those potatoes through the grater manually.

i hear there's some new-fangled way to use GPUs (Grate Potato Unlocker) to get it done quicker.  anybody know anything about that?

i do like my breakfasts...
if you use poclbm, short for "Potato Operation: Cleanse, sLice, Bake, Munch." it can improve it by one hundred fold!
84  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hidden web miners are ruining my life. on: May 31, 2011, 04:09:46 AM
or the increased risk of causing a fire, killing their cat & children.

so....i don't like it either... but this seems a tad extreme.
85  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: NVS 4200M benchmarks? on: May 25, 2011, 02:39:12 AM
Code:
bitcoin-miner.exe -a 5 -o http://mining.bitcoin.cz:8332/ -u USERNAME.MINERNAME -p PASSWORD -g no

this is a working pure CPU batch script (aka a blah.bat text file)for the SSE2 miner, if you're at slush, just change the username.minername and password to your own, deepbit, you're on your own i don't use him.

(-a flag.. i think that's for GPU stuff if you have that on, idk, i haven't fooled with it)

my $100 desktop card gets 230mh/s
(ati5830)

the problem that you are seeing with the low numbers is

Honestly, if you're doing bitcoin for fun, it's a  "meh" number, if you're serious it's a "give up" number, as the other dude said, you may get more for just your CPU.
87  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Uberminer: new shell-based miner on: May 23, 2011, 10:03:13 AM
EDIT: Yeah it works great.
88  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Slush Reporter on: May 21, 2011, 03:38:33 AM
I like it, though it be nice to have a manual update button too(possibly a max of 5 second interval between clicks).
89  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question about slush's pool and reward system on: May 20, 2011, 09:18:34 PM
but slush's pool doesn't even specify how users are paid.

uhhh....

How does bitcoin pool work?

Our server gives users blocks of very low difficulty to solve. Each solution found is registered as one 'share'. Occasionally, a solution will happen to also meet the full-strength difficulty requirements of the Bitcoin network, resulting in a successful 50 BTC minting.

This 50 BTC is divided among all of the users that contributed to that round, weighted by the number of shares that they earned. Therefore, the reward earned by a given user is given by the following formula:
(50 BTC - 1 BTC fee) * (shares found by user's workers) / (total shares in current round)

Shares do not carry over from one round to the next. When the pool mine a block, only users who worked on that block are rewarded, and only for work they did on that block. This is an unavoidable consequence of the way that Bitcoin mining in general works.

The 2% fee is used to keep this service alive.

Seriously Guys, There's no way this will bust. People are really trading with it now, and everyday more and more people are gaining awareness... And if mining becomes harder there will be lets BTC to go around that only means higher prices right?
Just have a back up plan...

you're investing more than me and my brother's shared college fund to give a comparison...
91  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I will donate to you, for your help. on: May 18, 2011, 08:07:05 PM

In fact, most investors bought up 5xxx series cards, which really excel at mining but aren't really top end gaming cards. So now you have a market flooded with mid ranged gaming cards that most gamers probably already have or have better than, reducing value even more.

I sir, am that market!

Cheesy

Why would it go bust? It's doing so well, and only growing.

It's more volatile than Neo-nazis at a bat mitzvah.
93  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I will donate to you, for your help. on: May 18, 2011, 06:47:26 PM
Are you sure you want to invest $14000?
94  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: You are threatening Bitcoin’s security on: May 17, 2011, 08:29:56 PM
Slush is too unstable
If you're thinking about that time it went down, that was literally the only time I've ever seen or had trouble with his pool.
95  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: FPGA mining for fun and profit on: May 17, 2011, 01:16:16 AM
You did all this in a single day?
96  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Brand new, done some reading.. on: May 16, 2011, 10:42:00 PM
Is there a known reason that ATI's cards are so much faster for this purpose? Seems odd that there's such a stark disparity, especially when Nvidia's CUDA is often the platform of choice for scientific number crunching.

The Bitcoin wiki has a lot of information on why ATI is superior to nVidia and on how to build a good "Mining Rig."

This to be exact.

97  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: YouTube Video: Bitcoin Mining: Three Months Later on: May 14, 2011, 12:02:01 AM
I fiddle around since late 2010, i only have 9BTC so far...

Do not have the funds for serious mining...

EDIT:I want your graphics cards lol
98  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: VGA Dummy for my new cards on: May 13, 2011, 11:42:15 PM
what are you doing, why are you putting resistors in a plug or whatever that is.
exact. OP, why are you doing this?
99  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: screensaver miner? on: May 13, 2011, 03:44:15 AM
No,it's fine. if someone is a casual miner they could use it.
100  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: screensaver miner? on: May 13, 2011, 03:19:52 AM
Yeah I know, it just wierds me out is all, be nice if people could post some before so it's not

Wild STRANGER appeared!

ATTACK MINERS
BAG RUN

MINE BUY
PLAY WAIT

USER is waiting patiently.

STRANGER used NEW MINER.

USER is confused.

USER hurt itself in confusion.
