Announcing TurtleCoin : Fun first, cash later

About TurtleCoin:

Welcome to TurtleCoin, well at least the announcement of. We would like to share with you the dream we have for the coin, what it stands for and where it could go in the future. It has humble beginnings (being a fork of ByteCoin) but already there is a thriving community behind it and a team of developers which is growing every week.

What are we definitely not? We are not a fork and forget coin. We are already modifying the algorithms, and starting code-inroads into features, adding value to what the original ByteCoin codebase had to offer.

And with such unprecedented interest and offers of help so early on, we were initially overwhelmed, taking time to marshal everyone's efforts and gain focus. With weekly updates, on progress and who is working on what part of the project, available on our blog, everyone can see what progress is being made and what direction we are heading.

Wanting to be fun and inclusive is great, but that can sometimes be seen as charlatan. So being incredibly open and transparent is important to us, to build up trust in a community that has seen hundreds of forks of this codebase, offering little other than a name change. We intend to do that by being entirely open source, but also through discussion with our core developers, who are always happy to answer any questions put to them.

We hope the changes we make will be positive and keep us around in peoples hearts.

Everyone is welcome to contribute to the ecosystem, regardless of skills or knowledge (or lack thereof), and we are ready to help people do so. Within just a few weeks, and without any initial pre-mine, ICO, marketing or capital we've seen the formation of:

  • Mining pools
  • Additional builds for other platforms
  • A block chain explorer
  • Trading bots
  • Inclusion on an exchange
  • Public nodes
  • and even merchandise based on our branding

We love and encourage this level of entrepreneurship.

Please feel free to read on, we hope to see you all mining on our pools and talking with us on our Discord channel.

What are we doing differently?

Obviously, the starting block is, No premine, No shenanigans.  We hate it when other coins have done it, and we simply don't agree with that philosophy as it just promotes a coin getting listed as quickly as possible, so people can cash out.  Our motto is very much slow and steady.

Of equal importance are the people who mine/trade TRTL. We wanted to put the fun and the community back into an Alt coin, we want ordinary people to be able to mine with us and generate TRTL, whilst feeling part of a friendly and supportive community.

You can only really produce that supporting and friendly community with openness, that is why every member of the team is on the discord server and regularly monitors it, we have dev updates, we have our GitHub issues tracker and we are always available for questions.  Absolutely nothing is closed off from the public, even our dev discussions are in the open, our dirty laundry, everything.

Where is it going?

The success of a project depends directly on active participation and involvement from all the interested parties on the discovering and decomposition of its needs and requirements, not taking for granted the care needed to determine, document and manage the products, service or project requirements.

We have our development plan (see Roadmap below), and we don't care much about its value on markets, that is not a motivator for us. What we are looking for is to develop the codebase to provide an exceptionally stable network and add features and capabilities into the coin to add value around the core block chain, giving it the potential to be genuinely useful.  But it will be the community that will drive the coin to greater highs, through adoption, feedback and help.

We have already attracted many members to the project, not just devs (and we have some heavy hitters there), but some excellent design, marketing, mathematics & economics experts all providing invaluable input into the project.

We operate a bounty scheme to fund development on the project, we find this the most open and agreeable way to reward people for contributing to not just the coin, but also ancillary projects that add real value to the network.

So Technically what is it?

  • PoW algorithm: CryptoNight
  • Max Supply: 1 Trillion coins @ 2 decimal places
  • Block reward: ~ 29000 TRTL, slowly decreasing over about 40 years
  • Block time: 30 seconds
  • Difficulty: Retargets at every block
  • P2P port: 11897
  • RPC port: 11898

Roadmap:

We hope to all see you there, for pretty much everything else there is this site, which list ALL resources, and we will try to keep this up to date.

I'm unable to even get to the withdraw section, it's entirely blank for me on Safari/Chrome on Mac.

Have not seen this before.

It's being discussed on Reddit.

http://aeonwalletapp.com/

does not seem functional for the moment.

Yes sadly that is an unfinished project, due to it relying heavily on the wallet code. I'm waiting to see what comes out of the rebase before completing it.  To be honest i'm surprised anyone has actually found it.

on GitHub you create a new work in progress branch and push the code there every day, to avoid the situation, where you lose all the code if let's say an HDD got broken. if the dev doesn't do this, he is not really a dev.

strange, 3 of the software development companies i've worked for have always had the rule "if it doesn't compile, it doesn't get pushed", all branches should be buildable. Local branches are fine, but nothing central should ever be half baked. Stash or copy locally if you need too, but never push anything that someone could pick up accidentally and merge. And I am very much a dev.

Interesting if at this jobs you had, the 2-month work you stored at a local repo, had gone, what would you boss say?

we have only one developer on AEON if his 2 months work is gone, suppose he did at least something it will hurt the project even more. So you can come up with your excuses, but until we see some work on GitHub - the project is dead!

You are such a troll, of course I would have local copies. But actually I had my own private repo.

And maybe, just maybe other developers might be involved behind the scenes that you have no comprehension of.

But you just keep posting your shit, if you hate it just f'off and do us all a favour so we don't waste time responding to your BS.

Not my finest moment, I was just fed up with people moaning, but not helping at all.  Anyway ... it's done now.

you can think whatever you want, but this doesn't change the fact that now we have an official statement from the Developer, iOS wallet, web wallet coming and a road map for the future! This changes everything. My earlier posts are 100% relevant to the situation before we knew what is going with markets and code fixes. So, if you want to invest Aeon is a sure thing!

Yes, most kew what the situation was.  But it was 100% inaccurate information. "Developer has abandoned the coin", "you'd best sell every one you own because they are going to be worthless".

And sadly, at first I believed these statements (mainly as I misinterpreted the sarcasm from other posters) and stupidly proceeded to sell all my Aeon, against all my judgement and being unable to find that source of information anywhere.  Then, the embarrassment of realising my mistake sets in and I buy them all back again, having now lost 10%.

Now this is no-ones fault but my own (and also partly helped by the coin flop that was INF-8, which I collected for a long time before it just died), and it has reminded me of a few valuable lessons in the short term.

Luckily, community members have actually donated about what I had lost in that stupid little venture so i'm exactly back to where I was which makes me very happy and the effort totally worth it (even if someone had only donated 1-2 aeon, the generosity is what heartens me to make the mobile wallet a success).

My point is, I might not have been the only one, and spreading what you see as your 100% correct interpretation of the situation, which was in fact 100% incorrect based on your own nervousness of the Bittrex closure was a poor show, and only goes to drag the coin down as opposed to building it up, as we all should be.

It is already a store of value! The price will only grow in a long term - now it is very undervalued, considering current block complexity the objective price would be around 35K for a coin. The infrastructure is very well developed, now we have mobile client, and web wallet. the Cryptonote Lite also is a very mobile friendly, so the next step would be a mobile miner. It is only a matter of months until some major player like aeon.co will adopt AEON platform for inner payments and rewards. the blockchain is stable and fast, the coin has great future ahead of it!

Hang on, over the past few weeks you've said nothing but it's all dead, the aeon world is on fire and it's all falling down around us.  And now an about turn to what can only be described as ass kissing levels.  So what is it g8tguy, troll?, investor looking to make some money?  Why the constant horse shit?
