82  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Begginer BTC Miner Wants Some Help! on: May 05, 2014, 01:02:06 AM
Hey Guys,

Well, after doing a bit of research, I am really considering getting into BTC mining. My only real problem is that I'm in highschool, so i don't have tons of money to invest in this right away. What I want from you guys is a recommendation in to how I can get into BTC mining for like $100-$500 bucks. I realize that's an incredibly small budget to have, but I plan to use this cheap rig to raise me enough money to buy an even better rig that I'll stick with and use long term. I've seen things like raspberry-pi rigs which are kinda cool, but I feel may not be worth it.

Like I said, I'm a beginner, so feel free to leave me some advice!

Thanks Everyone!

If you're just playing around, you can use CEX.io to buy hashing power instantly. However, the hashing power DOES get less valuable over time, and there is no guarantee you will make your money back. But, it allows for a lower investment to get started as opposed to other mining solutions. You can buy more than 100 GH/s for the $500 you mention! Smiley

Yes, I agree. The newbie jail doesn't teach noobs how to be a good forum user. It teaches them how to spam posts.

Also, hey Diamond! I remember you from the Coinchat days.

87  Other / Off-topic / Dota 2 Bitcoin tournament! on: October 14, 2013, 11:26:22 PM

Hello!
I thought that it would be a lot of fun if some people got together and played some Dota 2 for a pool of Bitcoin.
Some information on how this is going to work:

Here's how to participate in 2 simple steps:
1. Get together a team of 5 people.
2. Report this team to me via PM, you will be added to the bracket.
3. Pay the participation fee of .1 BTC per team. That's only .02 BTC per player.

The matches will begin on October 24th. The process of matchmaking will go like this:
1. Check the bracket for the team you're fighting.
2. Exchange Steam details with the enemy team.
3. Play the game via a lobby with no cheats or bots, and in Captain's Draft or All Pick mode, based on what you and your opponent have decided on.
4. Report the winner in this thread. A member from each team must state the same result for it to be counted.
5. Repeat.

Current Teams:
NameMembers

Hope this will be fun!

Current Pot: .2 BTC

I actually prefer LoL, the gameplay and the customization. HoN and Dota have no customization Sad
I have no idea about HoN, but Dota has tons of customization! You can mix and match various cosmetic items on all of your heroes.

But its just cosmetic items, LoL would have runes to customize the hero.
Also, masteries. But they make such a tiny difference.

Would like to join. When is this gonna start?
I don't know. I'm just gauging interest.
What do you think the entrance fee for a team of 5 should be?
91  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dota 2 tournaments with BTC awards? on: October 11, 2013, 02:07:09 AM
Which game is more popular? Dota HoN or LoL?
Depends where you look.

U.S and Europe:
1. Dota 2
2. LoL
3. HoN

Worldwide:
1. LoL
2. Dota 2
3. HoN

HoN is by far the least popular, but LoL and Dota are at a near tie in English speaking countries, with Dota recently gaining a small advantage.
However, in a worldwide scheme LoL dominates.

The reason I want to do Dota 2 tournaments is solely because it's my personal favorite. However, I love LoL as well.

Would actually be real cool... I play league mostly instead of dota though :*(
They're very similar games. It's worth it to play both, but if you know LoL it's easy to learn Dota, and vice versa.
We could do league tournaments as well.
Yeah. Big difference between dota and league is that there's such a thing as ability power in league where as in dota is just power in general. Basically you have to play dota like an adc in league (in terms of a league player, adc gets most of their dmg from auto attacks)
Wait, what? The 4 hero spells do level up. Each has 4 levels which increases it's power and usually mana cost, and sometimes it's cooldown time.

See? At the bottom. The yellow boxes indicate levels.
Unless you're talking about something else.

I think this would be a lot of fun. Let people make teams, the team pays a small entrance fee, and then they compete for the pot which consists of all the entrance fees!
Would anyone be interested in participating in something like this?

I would be interested, make one also for League of Legend and HoN? Smiley
Yeah. Sounds great! DotA 2 is my personal favorite, but those other games are popular as well.

96  Economy / Goods / Re: General purpose bitcoin business cards to hand out! on: October 11, 2013, 12:48:41 AM
Why don't you distribute the source code, so some of us can print our own cards?
For example in my region I'd rather distribute cards localized for Polish language and exchange.
I agree. That would be very bitcoin-ey of adam.

If you've been reading this thread and still want to earn $5 you can have a look at my problem here:

https://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=30552

If we can fix this I'll send the $5 to whoever gave the info first that fully solves the problem
What happens if you boot into recovery mode, run the root prompt, start your window server, and run the NetworkManager as root?

Alright. Completely reinstalled my OS. Did not fix. This is unsolvable. Sorry to waste your time.
