81  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: (WTS) 2x BFL 60 GH/s, based in US on: October 15, 2013, 10:54:54 AM
They are auctioning 60GH Avalon units on Tradehill right now for only 2BTC!

That being said, I will take both your units for 3BTC/each.

I am not sure if this is attempt to be funny or if you are downright stupid and do not know what an auction is.  As you can plainly see above people are offering up to twice as much as that and I have had, as previously stated, an offer for over 3 times that which I have not accepted.  Perhaps you are just trying to get your post count up and do not actually know what an asic is.

Either way, I not only decline, but I think I will try to sell them on Amazon or Craiglist, they seem to be going for about $1800 dollars apiece, and even with fees and what not, it would be better to sell on there and transfer the money back into bitcoin than simply to sell in bitcoin.

I appreciate all offers, but this order is closed until further notice.

You can probably get the most (cash) from Craigslist if you don't get killed in the process. On eBay you would definitely sell them for $2k each, minus about 25% eBay/Paypal fees, and then worry about getting a CC chargeback from PayPal 6 months later ... I don't personally have much experience with Amazon, but good luck!  Wink

I thought you all would like to see my high tech heat sinks that I am using on 2 of my miners.  So far they are working great.  but that does not mean much seeing as the chips never really got hot.

What do you think?Huh

With those giant heatsinks, why don't you overclock them to something higher than factory clock? Maybe dial it up past 18Mhz and see if you can get past 600MH. You may need to supply external 5VDC 2A Power Source for each unit (bypassing the USB connector).
83  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YIFU IS AUCTIONNING? on: October 15, 2013, 10:44:30 AM
2 btc for a 60gh rig is expensive i agree.

how about those 23gh modules that are STILL up for 3.80BTC

have the lunatics actually taken over the asylum??

It is expensive if you are expecting an ROI. 30GH BFL devices are still selling for over $1k on eBay. Tell me that is not ridiculous!?
84  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YIFU IS AUCTIONNING? on: October 15, 2013, 10:43:07 AM
Not bad if you can pick them up for 2-2.5btc. I am planning on picking up 2. Hopefully I don't get screwed.

And you are what is wrong in this scenario.

Then you pay a few coins and don't get what you paid for or when you paid for it. and then you bitch and complain. Why put another penny in this assholes pocket for what he has done and all the businesses he has ruined??!?!

Let him shove them up his ass.

Unfortunately, I do not totally understand what happened with Tradehill and the forum members. All I know is that these units with sell for more than quadruple their cost on eBay. That is much greater than every worrying about ROI. I could even mine with them for a month and still manage to sell them and make a profit. Additionally, I have no grounds for complains as bitcoin and mining is a fun hobby for me since I am an engineer geek.

Probably the people buying have no idea the difference between FPGA/ASIC .......
88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC on fire ! on: October 14, 2013, 07:19:01 PM
Why would anyone in their right mind hot-plug the mains power to the board under load?
89  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: October 14, 2013, 07:11:05 PM
I have 6 Avalons running using the internal TP-Link boards.  All use ethernet connections and have their wifi disabled.  I have no problems.

I  am running on a private network under a corporate subnet. Getting my DNS servers to work properly in the beginning was a challenge. I am still very skeptical of the current network configuration and would just like to eliminate it all together.

I have a host PC that can run both units with cgminer no problems and my fans are set to 100% constant. Just curious if anyone else is running like this and if they had any potential issues with the unit locking up or getting sick reports, etc....

thanks

90  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: October 14, 2013, 05:56:51 PM
Posted this in another thread, but did not get any response.....

Does anyone run 1 or more Avalon units with just the USB interface? I have 2 REDHASH clones and have had multiple problems with the TP-Link Adapters. I have changed them both already and still having issues with dropped connections and/or low packets.

I have removed the USB jumper, installed WinUSB, and have cgminer 3.5 configured for the following: "cgminer.exe --avalon-options 115200:32:10:45:328 -o http://pool:port -u username -p password" and it seems to work for one unit. I did not run it very long because my TP-Link replacements came the same day.

Has anyone else tried this? If so, do you have better results that using the TP-Link adapter? I haven't made up my mind which way I want to continue to run my rigs. Would appreciate any input.

This is my Web Interface Data for both units. I note some inconsistencies that could maybe be cleaned up by getting rid of TP-Link module.

Are there any places to buy a bare FPGA replacement board?
92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: October 14, 2013, 03:53:12 PM
I dont think people in this thread are doing this for sick profits. They are doing it to prove it can be done, or for the fun of it, or because they like electronics.

BE cost less than $10 USD now so of course it is more economical to just buy more units than to spend money and time overclocking them (if you really wanted to get a 30% overclock, you could have just paid more and got a blade, which is more economical than an equivalent number of block erupter USBs and more or less 'supports' overclocking with the turn of a screwdriver or two and a few settings changes. (Although, of course, yes, there are better options than blades now, your money could be better spent, etc etc).

Definitely doing the BE mod's for fun. Best part is that I can do it at work and I get all my parts and electricity for free  Grin

Are you any where close to the Chicago area?  I could use some help.

OH what were your digikey parts lists for both the 16Mhz and 16.345MHz

Here is a pic of the Digikey Part Numbers. I only needed the 1.2k and 1.4k resistors. I live in Philadelphia btw.

as for desoldering the Chrystal.  any pointers on reflow?  I will have to use a needle iron.  the hot air that I have will not work the way it is supposed to.

Wish you were closer I would have you come by my work Smiley

I have just a basic hot air tool. I set it to around 300C to do the work. You can find some youtube videos to show you some smd techniques. I suggest getting some flux in a syringe and some isopropyl alcohol. I clean the are with the ISO, then apply some flux around the areas i want to desolder. Then, I start to heat with my air gun using tweezers to put tension on the component. The solder melts and I can remove the component easily. Now, I apply a bit more flux and heat up the solder pads so they become nice and fresh. Let the PCB cool for a bit, clean the area with ISO, apply flux and slowly start to heat the pcb. Using tweezers, position your component and then apply the hot air. Once a little solder melts, then apply pressure from the top of the component and heat around the pins. This way, the component will solder and seat flush and secure with the PCB. It's really not as complicated as it sounds. Takes maybe 5-10 minutes per board and that is with me being OCD on the soldering technique. Smiley

UPDATE:

My devices have been running fine at 16MHz for about a month now.  Just in case people are concerned about the long-term reliability, I see no issues so far.

What R1 value are you using? I am using 16Mhx w/ 1.2k and 16.345Mhz w/ 1.4k. Neither of them get hot enough to upgrade the heatsink yet.

With a "tear in my eye," I have finally replaced my once BTC/LTC GPU machines with some decent ASIC technology. Need to do some cable management to remove a lot of the old wiring, but needed to get this system up and running/debugged in a hurry.

Currently running 2 TAV Redhash miners (w/ 1200W Thermaltake Gold-Series PSU's) and a gutted 4U case full of Overclocked Block Erupters. There is a dedicated fanless box-PC connected to the router/firewall to help manage the system through Teamviewer wherever I am at, even on my phone! Sorry the rear view picture isn't that great, my rack light just broke Sad

{awesome images}

What server rack is that? Awesome setup btw Cheesy

Thanks  Smiley It's just a standard Emcor rack with a rear vented door. Was from a leftover project at work they didn't need anymore. Has a monitor, KVM switch, keyboard tray and a customer Power switch panel. There is still a lot of rework to do as I want to add another 200GHash or so. I have 40A of power tapped off of a 3-Phase power junction. Running everything on 220VAC.

98  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / M-Board Solder Quality Inspection Points on: October 13, 2013, 01:09:08 AM
To anyone who has problems with their hardware, check for cold solder joints and bad hand-soldered SMD components. Some of these repairs are actually very simple to DIY. You can find youtube videos explaining how to SMD solder easily with little equipment and even techniques for regular hand soldering iron. Found these pictures on a thread and wanted to pass along to anyone with H-Board issues.

Oh ok. I had some issues with mine as well, but the guys at TAV were awesome about getting me replacement parts and some good tech information on the device. You wont find a lot of companies in this business who are that good.

Had one from a customer? You bought it off someone else? Damn, there were only like 27 of these released
