81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Stable Coins on: August 03, 2018, 01:03:51 PM
Sorry To say, this list is not perfect. Did you pick some coin only for promotion? I think some stable coins are

1. EOS
2. BNB
3. NEO
4. ADA
5. ARK

Though some coins price is very low now comparing previous prices but still they are safe, secure and stable coins.

Stablecoins are pegged to (and reflect the value of) an asset. None of those or the ones OP listed are stablecoins. Legitimate examples include DigixGold, Havven, TrueUSD, BitUSD, Tether, MakerDAI, and I'm sure plenty of others I am unaware of.

There are also stablecoins that are not pegged to an asset.

We know the US dollar is not backed by anything, yet it is still considered "stable" because of its wide acceptance.
However, its centralization and a lack of supply control are serious issues, that could ultimately make people lose confidence in it and result in devaluation.

Asset-backed stablecoins run into a similar problem. What if the asset that is backing the currency gets devalued? Is the supply of that asset mathmatically regulated? Can you trust the 3rd party custodians (middlemen) of the currency peg to accurately and honestly account for any asset devaluation? What if the 3rd party gets greedy and decides to implement fractional reserve lending behind the scenes? It really all boils down to trust.

With decentralized and non-asset backed stablecoins, there is no trust needed. For example, BitBay (BAY) will use a voting system to regulate the supply, and every user has their say in the currency's value.

In a system like this, the painpoint then shifts from trust to volume. The more volume the decentralized stablecoin has, the higher capability it has of being stable.

If any project can solve those 2 issues above, it will be far more stable and effective than any asset-backed (collateralized) stablecoin.

Here is a well-written article on this whole topic:

For the new people in crypto, let me list some stable coins.

Decred
Binance Coin
Ravencoin
Tezos
Ravencoin
Metaverse ETP

***Note: It is a misconception that currencies have to be pegged or backed by an asset to be stable.

A big one is missing from this list: BitBay (BAY)
Its dynamic soft peg is a method of flexible and decentralized supply control... that limits volatility. Non-collateralized, so no having to trust in a 3rd party custodian.

It will be released before year's end 2018.

Decentralized crypto currency can not be stable in nature. They have no controls, no one is supported in the price and is not provided with anything, and their price is formed only on the basis of the ratio of supply and demand, and they are never permanent. Among the crypto currency, only Tether is stable, since it is in fact a digital counterpart of the dollar.

I must disagree.
Decentralized cryptocurrencies should be controlled by everyone, not nobody. USD is backed by the "full faith of the US government". Decentralized cryptocurrencies are backed exclusively by their users. This prevents price control from falling within the hands of a select few, who ultimately will manipulate it to their advantage or fail to regulate the supply.

In the end, people can lose faith in the custodians of their currency (or it's pegged asset).
But they will never lose faith in their own personal judgment of value. This is why a decentralized and non-collateralized stablecoin will always be a better system.

For a stablecoin to sustain itself, it must not have a permanent and fixed price. It must adapt to the economic demand applied to it, coinciding with the change in value of goods/services.

With a decentralized and non-collateralized peg, (like BitBay's mentioned above) the price can move at a healthy and steady rate, giving investors a place to park (and grow) their profits while also providing users with a medium of exchange.

bump, more activity here! Any news?

The entire team continues to work 'round the clock, and is making a ton of progress!

The Dynamic Peg white-paper will be released here very soon. Peg integration and exchanges are currently top priority.
We can also look forward to some updates on the web marketplace beta before this month's end, as there are 3 dedicated devs and 1 UX designer working on it daily  Smiley

Dear Bitbay team,

Just found out about Bitbay and i really like the concept, dev team seems to be active. Before investing in this project, I have some questions:

1) What is the utility of the Bitbay token? Is there any other insentive than 1% staking reward?
2) Does the network also runs masternodes, or only staking?
3) How does Bitbay differ from Particl?

Btw, there is a major typo on the website, under features.

https://bitbay.market/features

It says, "crpytocurrency", i guess this has to be "cryptocurrency".

Hi VinneG,

1. BitBay's coin (on its own separate blockchain, not ethereum based) serves for the purpose of collateral during double deposit escrow transactions. It's the one thing that holds two parties to their word, to form any agreement in the marketplace. The two deposits are always in BAY, however payment for the transaction can be literally anything, (including crypto or fiat currencies).

2. There are no masternodes with BitBay (helps maintain decentralization), only staking on Proof of Stake 3.0

3. For comparisons of BitBay and Particl, check out this BCT thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2354040.0

However, two main differences offhand are that BitBay has an already working product since 2015 (that has tons successful marketplace transactions under its belt including real estate) and will be offering the Dynamic Peg. The peg will provide both stability and an opportunity for investors to profit over time. This will be the first programmable peg of its kind, and no other project has done this.

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding completing contracts. I would like to complete the BitBay faucet contract, and I am unsure regarding the "contract backup files". Should these files be kept secure/hidden? What is their purpose?

The contracts.dat file stores all of your transaction history, present contracts, and associated messages. If you have a large number of open contracts, or a large amount of money tied up a contract, it's a good idea to keep the updated file in a secure location until those transactions are complete.

contractsbackup.dat is simply an up-to-date backup of contracts.dat.

You can learn more about which files are important in video #7, below:

This has everything to do with the current suppressed market. The alts as a whole (not just BitBay) have been hit hard, and for a long period of time... inevitable after last year's run. This team's dedication to development and marketing hasn't changed with the price. We're still hitting roadmap goals on time, establishing partnerships, and building infrastructure for adoption. While the price is low and everyone is FUDDING, BitBay grows steadily behind the scenes...  Smiley

BitBay and Blocknet are my two favorites. I love BitBay because of the team behind it, and the existing working product that superceeds most others.  Smiley

Thanks for putting this together. I think there is so much potential for crypto in this space... all 3 could potentially succeed together. However as of right now, like everyone else here says... BitBay is obviously the true performing underdog. It's tech is so much further along than any others. Real estate transactions have taken place using their smart contracts, and they've already completed what is only on most other's roadmaps...

In my opinion, BitBay Markets (BAY).

(note: I'm not affiliated with the BitBay team in any way)

David, the lead developer has been quietly working away at building a marketplace platform that already hosts a ton of features, which you can use right now.

Here are some reasons I love BAY: David is truly passionate about the project, and has been using his own budget to fund the project (no ICO's or vaporware scams), he and the team are 110% dedicated to the projects completion.

- The currency will have a "rolling peg" which will greatly reduce the coin's volatility. (The users will vote on when/how to limit the coin's supply) This is awesome because it will prevent the manipulation of price by whales etc., and create a more stable environment for investors. This feature will be introduced this fall/winter.

- My rough and hypothetical guesstimate on potential coin valuation: If you take the average of the top 3 industry competitors market caps (Amazon: $474.41B, eBay: $38.12B, Craigslist: roughly 8B) you would get $173.51 Billion. Divide this by the number of BAY and you get a value of $172 per coin. Too optimistic you say? Alright, even if BitBAY was able to take 1% of this market space, that would still be 1.735B, or $1.72 per coin. So, at the current price of $.02 per coin, there is a TON of room for growth. (Note: I realize this comparison may or may not be apples to oranges and is very approximate, but at least it gives me a rough idea of what the potential is.)

- DOUBLE DEPOSIT. This is a cool feature, because it means you can create a contract with another stranger, and not have to use a centralized 3rd party to monitor the transaction. If there is a dispute, then both parties are forced to come to an agreement, or else they both lose their deposits. This creates a near-perfect environment a truly decentralized and synergetic marketplace.

- Easy pre-made templates for creating your own smart contracts. This is next level, because so many people/investors (including myself) hardly know what a smart contract is, let alone know how to build one. BitBay Markets makes it easy, and all you have to do is fill out a form and your good to go. (The UI is also constantly being tweaked to be more user-friendly)

- It is a fully functioning platform that you can use right now. This big for me as an investor, because there is actual value behind the investment. Many of these coins have "roadmaps", but no actual working product... at least with BAY, I know that there is a dedicated and hard-working (former chess champion) using our money to make an already existing product better for everyone, and positioning it to succeed amongst competitors.

- Last but not least: They just brought on some experienced people to the marketing team, who will be promoting it this fall and building awareness, which up until now, hasn't been done at all. The team first built the product, now its time to promote and refine the product.

These are just a few of the many reasons why I believe that BAY is highly undervalued, and has great potential for positive returns in both the near and long-term future.
