81  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Novacoin $15 NVC giveaway WRONG SITE LINK on: September 04, 2013, 12:21:37 AM
I received the PM from Jozzaboy. I installed the client and run it few minutes until I found this thread  Sad.
Thank you.

Make sure to run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyWare immediately! You installed a keylogger.

Thank you! I've just installed and run both.
SUPERAntiSpyware just found 98 adware tracking cookies (I think not a big threat).
Malwarebytes found: 1 PUP.Optional.QuickShare.A, 3 PUP.Optional.Iminent.A, 8 PUP.Optional.Tarma.A.
I don't know if any of them could be a keylogger, but at least I cleaned my system.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Seven lie alt coins - more data, more truth on: August 31, 2013, 10:58:17 PM
The future of any cryptocoin does not depend on the way that it begun, it does not depend on how much coins are hoarded by anyone. FeatherCoin begun as a speculation, I agree, but it is surviving after that,  it is peer-to-peer, it doesn't need the original developers and promotors anymore. Perhaps Satoshi mined lots of Bitcoins, but the future of Bitcoin is now independent of it. The market is ultimately free, and the market of cryptocoins is more free than any market because of anonimity and privacy granted by criptography and the peer-to-peer scheme.

So, the arguments of the original post are mostly not valid. The future of any cryptocoin depends only on how much people wants to use or to have it (if it is safely designed). There is a feedback effect, the more a cryptocoin is used, owned or produced, the more people will want to use it, have it or produce it. So, two good indicators for the future of a cryptocoin are total mininig power (only comparable for coins with the same base algorithm) and total market value (in dollars or in BTC, to be comparable).

84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 31, 2013, 10:20:02 AM
For fun I collected stats on the decimal part of the distribution of all 5+ chains, separated into 1% bins. It looks fairly flat:

Code:
66 54 53 55 52 56 44 70 68 53 53 57 54 33 53 46 61 68 66 67 55 69 59 58 39 60 73 58 51 61 56 56 53 56 66 50 72 76 58 57 55 55 61 55 62 67 53 58 46 44 59 60 53 62 39 46 47 55 55 48 69 77 47 56 75 52 65 74 41 49 67 53 74 47 49 63 55 57 47 61 59 63 45 59 54 55 61 62 48 61 55 62 63 55 70 62 50 81 55 64

mean is 57.54
median is 56
standard deviation (sigma) is 8.94
skewness is -25.13 = third moment / sigma^3 = sum( ((sample - mean)/sigma)^3 ) / total samples
non-parametric skewness is 0.17 = (mean - median) / sigma

I don't know if it is much or few skewness for our problem, just I hope that it could help to think.
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] So, why is porting primecoin mining to the GPU so difficult? on: August 29, 2013, 10:38:21 PM
He reports a 2x performance gain against a phenom x6, that's not much considering that a 6990 has 2 cores .
If the final results go on these lines, it will not be better to mine on GPU than on CPU.

In fact the price of a Radeon HD 6990 is more than twice that of a Phenom II X6. Probably also the power consumption is 2x.

so what if the price went to 0.015 per XPM again, would you then be doing the math how this was a success and spreading the word for me?

Yes, of course!  Instead of cancelling, I'd be trying to buy more shares.

You are not right on that. If you had purchased XPM the date of the proposal instead of investing in mining you would also have lost value. We must use the price of XPM on the date-time of the proposal. Or better, we must not convert the dividends to BTC, but  just compare the amount of XPM that we will get with the amount that we (and he) expected as a minimum.

Anyway, there will be notable loss this first week. The question now is trying to analyze data correctly for next week.

What about Google Compute Engine?, could it be cheaper and/or better?
88  Economy / Securities / Re: [Primecoin XPM Coin Mining] XPM Computing Mining Subscriber Shares on: August 22, 2013, 01:45:15 AM
Maco, I trust you for now (I have 2 shares). Please make it work before a GPU miner for Primecoin is ready  Wink.

90  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are so many selling their mining rigs ? on: May 22, 2013, 06:41:16 PM
ASIC is the coming monster that every GPU miner is afraid of ... since 10 months ago.

The reality is that mining profitability of Bitcoin with GPU is quite the same as mining profitability of Litecoin, 10 months later than the announcement of ASIC for mining Bitcoin. So, where is the big afraid?. Where are the ASICs?, or are there so few that its total power can not be as high as total power of GPU mining?

GPUs are all over the world, most young boys has one to play games. ASICs are 3 small companies, it looks like they are making ASICs by hand, one by one.

And, what if the Bitcoin algorithm is changed?, it is open source, and necessity could make the comunity decide to incorporate Scrypt, or Proof-of-stake, to the algorithms of Bitcoin. In such a case, the actual ASICs will be of no value, just a museum piece on the history of cryptocoins.

(Perhaps I am wrong, it is just opinion, it is not deep knowledge).
91  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SELL MONEYPAK / UKASH ONLINE FOR LR on: May 22, 2013, 01:18:43 PM
I was scammed by ukashvault com. It is the same type of service.

How do you guarantee that your service is not a scam?

The problem with UKash is that user have to fully trust on the vendor, because there is no way in which you can recover your money. Your site has no contact information, no identification of you or your business, no way of legal claim in case of problems.

So, I can only think that you are a scammer. But please, prove that I am wrong, I wish very much to be wrong.

I see a whole lot of people selling their mining rigs and was wondering why !

Where do you see them selling rigs?. Perhaps I am interested on more mining power, I have now one rig with 4 x 7950. Anyone selling rigs in Europe?

I am only interested in HD 7xxx series, or HD 69xx GPU's.
93  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: May 22, 2013, 12:36:03 AM
Hi, I have a rig with four VTX HD 7950 shared with a friend. Well, we bought 5, but one of them failed because a broken fan.
We get about 530 kH/s on each GPU mining Litecoins, totaling about 2.1 MH/s. That produces now about 4 LTC/day.

We re using Windows 7 and Guiminer-scrypt with cgminer configured for mining. Motherboard is MSI Z77A-G45, and CPU is Intel G1610 (the cheapest Ivy Bridge 22nm). We have 16 MB of DDR3, but we only need so much memory when we use "reaper" instead of "cgminer". We use active raisers for 3 of the 4 GPU's, and we use 3 power units TACENS of 850, 850 and 650 watts.

Our parameters are:

  gputhreads = 1
  worksize = 256
  intensity = 19
  thread_concurrency = 44800

You can think that it is a big thread_concurrency, but it is what maximize the use of the 3 GB of each GPU:
  64 x 44800 = 2867200 kB,

that is very near to 3 GB, and it is a multiple of the number of shaders per GPU = 1792
  44800 = 25 x 1792

If we try a higher multiple of the shaders, the computer hungs. If you use a low value for thread_concurrency, you will get good khashes, but few accepted shares, so you don't get so much coins. I mean that khashes is not what you must maximize, you must maximize accepted shares. For example, with td = 1792 you will have the same khashes, but almost none accepted shares. But it is a good parameter value to try overclocking, as the responsiveness of the system is faster. By the way, we are using a bit of overclocking, with core/memory clocks at 990/1320, and we get temperatures about 65-70 ºC (with additional big fan).

Our percentage of stale shares is very low, about 1%. We use Netcodepool.org, we are "cqcoin" there.

I hope that this will be useful to somebody.
