For those who arent aware bidding is cheaper than market   Tongue

Anybody care to give me a summary of how bidding works?

Every block, the BCR blockchain sends coins to bidders. You bid by sending BTC to the address in the "Block Auction" screen. Say you are the only one to send 0.01 BTC, until another bidder comes every block mined all day will give you 38 BCR. If other people make a bids, then the coins are divided among them, relative to their % of the total.

so sometimes even when market price is 500 sats, a well placed bid can get you coins for less. each round is roughly 24 hours.

I don't even know why people act so naive.

Its simply a matter of a guy who had an idea and thought it would be easy, so he made a lot of claims and hype, but once he got down to it, realized it would not be quite so easy. Besides , exactly what is the point of torrentz + cryptocoins ?  Perhaps torrent + cryptography, but not a coin. For you to actually make this work , you need a way to monetize content in a way that will result people actually opting to buy/upload, maybe in collaboration with a original content provider, you could get somewhere, but not as current.

Just some thoughts.

I disagree with you on the possible uses of crypto and torrents. The fact that torrents could be put onto a blockchain and there's not a god damn thing the MPAA or any other organisation could do, is a billion dollar idea.

This is why I have kept my coins, just in case the Dev does pull it off.

What is this thing called MPAA?

HAHAHAHA billion dollar idea??? Piracy ? Paying for piracy of shit i can get free? You really haven't researched file sharing. Go take a closer look at what file sharing is really like beyond the pages of TPB.

There already exist paid torrent services, featuring blistering speeds and blinding methods that make it impossible to tell who downloaded what. What part of this exactly is a billion dollar idea, in fact, convince me this is a million dollar idea.

I live in the UK where the government has told ISP's to block torrent sites. It's now increasingly harder for your average Joe to use torrent sites, thanks to organisations like the MPAA and others lobbying governments.

Torrents on the blockchain via a search function in the wallet would solve this.

Let's also take freedom of speach into consideration also. Let's say I made a video that spoke out about the government or had some whistle blower info I needed to get out, then torrents on the blockchain would be the best amd safest way of me staying private and asking sure that the message could not be taken down.

See, the thing is you cant put a real torrent on the block chain. all  it takes is one to gum up the chain. If you instead resort to links only, then you have to worry about torrent availability , share speeds and everythng else current torrents do. so....why the additional coin ?

Hi, Just as stonehedge, ive just now discovered this project.

i like the fact that the dev is involved, and works hard to reach the goals set for this coin.

after scanning through the thread i feel a little confused on what different options i have for earning coins, i feel like the information is
scattered a little too much, might be a good idea to compile all of the information down to an easy accessable 1 post, either in the OP
or, a link from the OP. might make it less confusing for newcomers (and hopefully get more people interrested)

just my 2 cents, and dev, keep up the good work :-)

Hi

That is so true, i think he brought back the website :- http://bitcentral.website , while some of the newer stuff is not there yet, it's likely the best amalgamation of info. Please note that you should use the links in the OP as the website is still getting updated.

Yeah , he works hard but i think he has no marketing skills  Tongue

Devs are devs.  Its up to community members to help wth the other bits  Wink

True, i work with him on code sometimes, but lately he's been very quiet , we just see new things. Two days ago i finally caught him in the act :- https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bcr/tx.dws?283899.htm

1) Somehow he put a link in a transaction.... and
2) it leads to a colored coins page  Shocked, he was vague in his response, but i think he's about to switch things up again.

easier access to info, will attract more people, with more people, the chance of people with good marketing skills coming to the project will rise, also other skills, so in the end, it can only be a win/win to get the information compiled into an easy to access place, be it OP or website.

edit: ive looked at the website, and it doesnt really give any information, its more like a sales pitch.

:-)

Reasoning for compiling it all into one place:

Not everyone has the time to sit down and go through 200+ pages to try and figure out how things work, i myself am busy with alot of stuff, both online, and offline, so for me, time is in a sense, money.

Like you say eventually someone will jump in and help, but as far as i know, that is the best he can do for now.

He offered a couple of bounties with a huge cumulative total , asking someone to compile the info , but noone has taken it up.

Earning coins is pretty simple and versatile:- You can own a bank node base node , or you can bid for a day's worth of coins, or you can mine , or you can take up a job and get paid by the blockchain. All this and he promised to add more in the future.

The dev has cooked up some interesting stuff and solved a lot of problems others tried and failed. For example It's impossible to 51% BCR, because  it uses co-operative PoW and no pools so no centralization.

If we get some extra time (not likely)
it'd be nice to get some displayed info for miners solo mining. Ideally it could show you the keys your working with. (either autodetect or you could add more) then it could show you whether the key is available to be mined against. and if not how many blocks til its available. if none are available it would turn off the miner and when any become available it turns back on to the last known thread setting.

also @ hack_ when your using external miner and you solve a block within the last 40.. does it bork your wallet or no.

While it would be nice ....i think the dev is right, the GUI is crowded already. I guess he'll have to get inventive.

Using external miner i have no problems , it will always mine a block when my turn to contribute comes along.

Hopefully last issue from me.

Is putting the wallet.dat from the appdata folder backup just a drop in the roaming folder and renaming to wallet.dat?

I show block 265,169 at 36 hours behind but last transaction from 7/14/2015 with only 6.08721855 BCR in my wallet. I did not do a back-up from the option on the bottom row.

If not frick me, I am down to 2 BN.

If you are sure you have the right back up file then just get the private keys and import in new wallet after successful sync
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE Dec. 11 2015 on: December 12, 2015, 11:42:36 PM
I guess people get tired of updating, but i think that is the cost of progress.

You can earn BCR by

1) Mining
2) Running a BN
3) Bidding
4) Working

How many can make the same claims?
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE Dec. 11 2015 on: December 12, 2015, 10:59:14 PM
I can understand the issue , but lets be honest. Just try listing the number of advances bcr has over others.

Guys, there is a working AUCTION on the blockchain. Send a tiny amount of btc, sit back and watch the coins pile up....Where else have you seen this? If that weird tx i saw is any indication , then even more is coming.

I think we should also consider making our market PAID FOR, that way we need not worry about this anymore.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE Dec. 11 2015 on: December 12, 2015, 10:22:39 PM
This market will be removed on Friday, December 18th 2015. The blockchain is no longer operational. If you are the developer of the coin and would like to keep it listed, please contact us at support@bittrex.com

I'm sure the dev already contacted them seeing as chainz is already on the right chain. I also sent a message though i never got a response.

I think this also emphasizes the dev pushing for users to contact other exchanges and express their interest. If you are a user and did not contact exchanges asking them to add BCR, then don't complain in future.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE Dec. 11 2015 on: December 12, 2015, 07:08:44 AM
@antonio8
you need 50,000bcr in 1 address to mine. its been that way for maybe 2 months. you also can not mine consecutive blocks. all miner addresses are accounted for, any blocks submitted either consecutive or from address less than 50k are rejected.

@bitcreditscc
my fresh sync stopped at 45 hours behind. and both my banknodes which mined a block and were setgenerate true again after a few blocks eventually (not immediately) crashed and are now not syncing.
this is on the latest windows build.
they show the peers with a correct height, and they dont yell invalid block, but they refuse to advance.

It's a pity these innovations came later. He solved the pool issue, centralization, distribution and security without need for excessive hash power. If we switched to a less resource intensive algo, we would be awesome. Just think, with sha256, a single USB miner would be overkill. Instead of every BN having to get tons of hardware any individual or company could run it off something as cheap as a ras-pi.

I also tried syncing fresh and it stopped along the way, investigating showed the reason for the update, there is a difference between a new block and the active chain's tip and that was causing some unexpected behavior. Also the bidtracker was creating zero and null values when explorers were down or unconfirmed transactions were mucking up the math. i"m guessing he'll sort the logic later, right now it's best to bootstrap.

Now i'm just curious as to what he is doing, i saw an interesting tid-bit yesterday but his answer was vague.
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE 11/12/15 on: December 11, 2015, 05:12:47 PM

Yes, you noticed it too? What is going on?

It has a link text and what looks like a hash , then the outputs are weird. One input , 3 outputs with the first a micro payment, the second not having an actual address or amount,  the third returning the rest of the coins.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE 11/12/15 on: December 11, 2015, 04:55:26 PM
I see what happened  Cheesy

Bidders stinged on tx fees, now their transactions are stuck.

That leaves only one weird unexplained transaction.
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BITCREDIT | URGENT UPDATE 11/12/15 on: December 11, 2015, 03:55:07 PM
updated, looked at the commits, what exactly was going on?  Also noticed strange transactions on the chain.

Oh, yeah, i am using an external miner, just plugged in my gpu ,  no need to worry about "setgenerate true"

Anyone else have ideas about the algorithm? I think that the benefits are pretty obvious, even the dev has been pushing for android versions, sha256 would make mining possible off your old android hardware. We once had a situation where we proved the network could run off a single cpu , why not take that further and make it such that the network can run off any number of low powered devices but still be secure?

Does anyone support a change to sha256D? momentum is memory heavy , sha256D hashes can be produced easily by smaller power efficient machines such as rasberry pi

Definitely no.

This will kill mining. Gpu's, fpga, asics ....

The balance and 40 block limit take care of that
