81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The BitcoinCard : Vienna, Austria Workshop on: June 11, 2012, 04:36:53 PM
If a vendor/store had a USB gateway wouldnt that be enough to process POS transactions? Wouldnt the mesh network be needed to send coins to someone on the other side of town? And if each of you are next to USB gateways, again would it not matter if there was a mesh network?

Is not the Bitcoin card perfect for countries like Africa...

Oh and one critique. The looks dont work for it. It looks a bit too much like a toy with all those colors.
I know what I´m talking about. Colors are good for useability. But look at the mobilephones.
People can use them anyway. There is no need for all those colors.

Dont underestimate the bad impact of boring design and the good impact of good looking design, it is the most common developer misstake. I have worked with some of the worlds top coders and they just dont understand the impact of design.
They make the misstake of thinking, I dont care so I really dont think anyone else cares. But its quite the opposite.
They are in a tiny minority.

People judge things by their appearance.  If it looks good, it must be good and it gives the owner status.
If it looks ugly, you dont want to flash it around.

Make one in Black and gold. People low to flash their gold VISA cards.

personally I like the design of the card they have been showing but I completely agree people judge things by their appearance black/gold/silver option in the future would be great.
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 11, 2012, 01:29:20 PM
Is this device real?

Elletsys.com won't load. Kickstarter finds nothing when searching or Ellet. Anybody know the creators?
Should of read the first post better. Its not on kickstarter yet it will be soon. If you mouse over elletsys.com you can see that <elletsys.com> is the text they put over for the link(like saying click <here>), it actually leads to a reddit page. Its not even a redirect.

Could you get a price on that bulbasaur if he is selling it? Hard to tell but it looks like its 1/4th of the size of the rayquaza.

I removed your email. I didnt know it was ""sensitive"" information. you dont need to cry.

because I dont want to pay 260 euro doesnt mean Im a noob in torrenting. I didnt ask to buy it for $2-3 either all I did was ask how much you were selling them for..... Thats one hell of a mark up your making too. your saying you get an invite for donation $10 and your selling the code for $325? The other 2 are fair prices, making a few bucks for reselling a code.
85  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTS] Private Trackers ( Invites / Account ) Huge List ! on: June 09, 2012, 01:18:54 PM
here is the quote for the trackers I requested.

Hdbits invite - > 260 euro
hdbits buffered account + mail - > 190 euro
What.cd invite - > 16 $
Passthepopcorn invite - > 12 $

Ill take 6 and 2 gateway devices too! I love that its the size of a credit card!In the picture with 4 of them laying on the desk they look huge that picture was taken at a weird angle.

why do they have letter tags on them?
good catch it looks like that. perhaps for testing and identifying which card they used?

It looks like a slighly different card. notice the numbers missing underneath the screen.
from the products page on their website

from today, it no longer says bitcoincard.org across the top either. (image is huge so I linked to it)

88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC <-> USD on: June 08, 2012, 05:22:52 PM
Why are you trying to convert them to USD and then back again?  Kinda seems like you could just connect two people trying to go opposite ways and then you'd be good.

If those two people can't connect or don't trust each other, then go to the exchanges.

I haven't known directly of any exchanged tailoring to large orders; but I've heard of private exchanges happening when bigger dollars are involved.

I don't know if it's rumors or if I'm allowed to reveal who I heard that from.

Good luck and post any public information on the topic.
Im just wondering the best way to invest in BTC and then the best way to convert back to USD at a later date. Not a way to quickly convert back and forth.

Haha, yeah you can transfer your funds to MTGox, but you will never get your USD out of MTGox.  They can't handle even $10,000 being transferred out currently (been trying for a month).  A lot of us believe they have a liquidity problem, but they are less than forthcoming with the reasoning.

MTGox is definitely not the place to do money conversion from BTC to USD.  Probably fine the other way though if you plan on transferring your BTC out of MTGox to elsewhere, although I hear horror stories about funds being frozen coming into MTGox as fiat currency.  In at least one case, the funds have been seized and are not being released even back to the originating source.
reasons like this are exactly why I dont think MTgox is a good option. Do you still consider them a viable option for converting to BTC and leaving it at that?

Surely the only other way cant be converting it in small chucks through bitcoin-otc?
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BTC <-> USD on: June 08, 2012, 03:44:54 PM
What is the best way to covert larger sums from USD into bitcoins and back? Im thinking about amounts between 5k and 25k USD.
90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 01:32:43 PM
-I dont like the name, I guess its hard to settle on ellet when bitdex was so good. bitlet didnt seem so bad either.
-I dont like that it supports other currencies I only care about bitcoins as a digital currency and credit cards for USD but I understand why this is done, it is impressive if it can really support all of those especially dwolla and paypal.
-I dont like the reddit page that is a really stupid.

-good news? I love everything else about the device especially the 40hour battery life and all the ways to back up your wallet!

will it work off wifi?
91  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BFL singles rev3 units on: June 06, 2012, 08:30:52 PM
You expect someone to pay $928 USD (@5.46 USD/BTC) for something that costs $600? That is outrageous. Premium or not, shipping times have dropped dramatically, and I suggest you rethink your price.

shipping time is still 60 days +. these 8 units will produce ~3.3BTC day(at a crappy 95% pool), 198BTC over 60 days @ ~$1,079 at current exchange rate. There are other things to consider as well, but those vary buyer to buyer...

It'll cost ~ (( 633 * 8 ) / 5.4 )) 940BTC to buy 8 singles from BFL. It'll cost ( 170 * 8 ) 1360BTC to buy 8 from him. That 198BTC doesn't cover the 420BTC difference. Other people have said this before - if there's more than ~25BTC premium per unit, you're better off buying from BFL.
Didn't check all your math but your right. Its not worth paying more then a 25BTC premium per unit. Its cheaper to buy singles from BFL and wait, youll make your money back faster.

Did you start using a proxy or install any new addons to your browser? When I installed foxyproxy logging into GLBSE with 2 factor auth stopped working. You can call nefario but I dont know how to get his number.

not sure if this thread belongs in technical support.

Damn good catch. I was waiting until your order cleared before I purchased one.
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoincard.org on: June 05, 2012, 04:46:55 PM
I dont see why anyone is complaining about not backing them up or them getting lost. They work exactly like a debit card or one of those green dot cards. You load it with as much money as you need. Every month youd put 500BTC on the card to refill it for daily use.

500 BTC is ~$2500.  If my debit card stops working I don't lose $2500 the bank just issues me a new debit card.  Your analogy doesn't make much sense.  If anything you pointed out that without backups it is NOT like a debit card.  It is more like cash and personally I don't carry around $2500 in cash for the exact reasons of loss/theft.
okay so debit card can only be lost or stolen the money can still be spent by a thief and you can hope the bank will refund you. If a green dot card is lost or stolen your completely out of luck.

this card can be lost or stolen. The only other thing you need to worry about is breaking it. I was giving 500BTC as an explain. You would only put as much on the card as you would in your wallet.

@up
you can receive coins too. they showed that in the video sending coins to your friend on the street.

ya 500BTC was a bad amount to pick I figured it would last the month and you would reload it every month but even that is a lot. 20-100BTC would of been a better amount to use.
99  Economy / Lending / Re: I have 20 BTC to lend on: June 05, 2012, 02:01:28 PM

I'm also interested in doing little loans like this. I have 20btc and the same terms as the OP. Make me an offer Cheesy

(I wouldn't be advertising if OP had anything to loan, btw Wink)

I was thinking about this site yesterday took me a while to remember the link. I was going to get skyrim but there is to much work to install it for something im paying for. Almost went with BestBuy $34 dollars on sale, but in the end its easier to grab a torrent.
