81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Datacoin – Reliable censorship-free data storage and currency on: December 05, 2013, 06:26:16 PM
Have you ever thought about storing some of your data in place where it is safe and cannot be deleted by VPS provider or by yourself accidentally? Do you want a place where you can always get The Pirate Bay and Wikileaks dump even if your provider blocked access to them? Are you a developer who needs to store critical information of your application in reliable storage? Or are you an investor who wants to sell other people these possibiities? If so, Datacoin should attract your attention.

We gladly want to present you a new unique cryptocurrency Datacoin which basically provides you with some more featured usable option: it is intended to be reliable censorship-free data storage and a currency to pay for this storage. Information is money today, and datacoin is the most perfect implementation of these words.  Data is stored in the blockchain “forever” (as long as blockchain exists) and can be retrieved with transaction hash as an identifier. It is considered as a platform to be used by applications (and not directly by users): torrent trackers, encrypted messaging services, etc.

Blockchain is not considered as a place to store heavy data like video files: this should be too expensive. Instead developers can store torrent files, certificates, possibly some HTML pages and other kinds of metainformation in Datacoin blockchain. Files are stored on local HDDs of all users participating in the Datacoin network. Each user has own full local copy of all Datacoin files.

83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Does Bitcoin hold intrinsic value, or is it overvalued? on: December 03, 2013, 10:30:33 AM
Thousands of words have been written on the subject, and many more will be written in the future. Unfortunately, very few of them will help us to answer that simple question. In any case, we already know the answer, and it has nothing to do with Bitcoin itself, but rather with the way in which we consider things valuable. Let me explain…

The concept of “value” is defined, in theory, as “the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.”  This definition would seem, on a first glance, to contain all what we need to know about value, except that this definition is incomplete when we talk about some specific objects or financial constructs.

In financial instruments of any kind –and Bitcoin could be considered one of those- value is increased by scarcity, desirability and an inability to duplicate whatever makes said instrument valuable. The equation that results in the value assigned to a given thing is more complex than it would seem, and it includes concepts related to physical limitations that prevent the duplication of the object, and the ability of this object to connect with our emotional nature as human beings.

85  Economy / Service Discussion / Mt. Gox: Where is your Security? Introducing the New OTP on: December 01, 2013, 11:35:30 AM
Reddit user /u/sockinabox recently awoke to an email from Mt. Gox informing him that his funds had been withdrawn.  About $12,000 of his personal funds are now gone with absolutely no way for the rightful owner to recover them.  Just like the many times before that this has happened and been reported on /r/bitcoin, Mt. Gox’s email support is unresponsive which only adds to the frustration.  However, even if Mt. Gox responded to every email they received about stolen funds, can they actually do anything to recover funds that have already been stolen?

Any Bitcoiner will realize that once the coins are sent, Mt. Gox can’t do anything more than the victim can.  This is a feature of Bitcoin, not a flaw, and part of being a Bitcoiner is realizing that putting your bitcoins online puts one password between the world and the bitcoins.  Obviously, the first step to securing ones bitcoins if one plans to store them in an online exchange is to choose a secure and never-before-cracked password.  Such a password would probably be incredibly long and not contain any combination of letters that has ever before been written in Wikipedia.  While this is general good practice, many other online services have started to offer  Two-Factor Authentication [2FA] through a separate device or email account for withdrawals and/or logging in.  Some view this as a crutch, while others view it as an adequate tool in the arsenal against black-hat actors.  Mt. Gox has previously only offered 2FA through Yubikey, a paid solution that cost $30 and frankly was not widely adopted by exchange users.

86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Primecoin added to a Chinese Bitcoin exchange, sees a growing buy support on: November 25, 2013, 07:37:17 AM
We have long been anticipating Primecoin to increase in value. It has long been our best investment advice to our members in the Cryptocurrency Investment Club, AND IT STILL IS. We started taking a notice of Primecoin when it was at its lowest of 0.0008 BTC per XPM, falling from almost 0.01 BTC per XPM.

Since our investment analysis clearly showed that Primecoin was the alternative cryptocurrency with the best growth potential, we wrote multiple posts about it:
Alt-Coins holding up, now climbing more than Bitcoin
Primecoin is STILL our best investment advice, recent actions verifies the shift

And now it has come to our attention that a Chinese Bitcoin exchange has added Primecoin as one of few coins to trade. The exchange BTC38 has been one of the key drivers of the recent buy support for Primecoin.

With this knowledge, we think its now safe to say that Primecoins (XPMs) will continue to increase in value over a longer period of time. The Bitcoin price seems to have stabilized and the trust in the alt-coin market is again a reality.

87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Sweden and Norway to add Bitcoin VAT – Norway to implement Bitcoin tax on: November 23, 2013, 02:01:03 PM
It has been known recently in the news that the Swedish government wants to add VAT on Bitcoin trading after receiving a request by a Swedish man trying to establish a Swedish Bitcoin exchange (you can read the story here in Norwegian). The man that contacted the Swedish government is very dissatisfied with their answer and tries to combat their views on Bitcoin trading. He believes that if Sweden enables VAT on Bitcoin trading, it will become useless as a currency.

The Swedish government explains that legal currencies are excepted VAT on trading, however they do not see Bitcoin as a legal and public currency hence it needs VAT. The disagreement has been brought up into the tax tribunal. The tax tribunal forwarded the dispute to the Swedish financial supervisory authority that says: “Since Bitcoin is being used as payment among many international and Swedish companies it must be qualified as a currency”. The tax tribunal has therefore supported the man with his claim that Bitcoin should be excepted VAT.

88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Alt-Coins holding up, now climbing more than Bitcoin on: November 22, 2013, 10:06:31 AM
When the Bitcoin price saw new heights in October and November, all alt-coins were pushed down because of a massive escape from alt-coins into Bitcoin. The market is very new and the traders have clearly not standardized their trading habit (trades are all over the place with little reasoning behind). One should have thought that when Bitcoin climbed, alt-coins should have followed the increase, at least to a certain level. However, most Alt-Coins either held their USD value or even fell compared to their original USD value before the rise of Bitcoin. This does not make any sense, as the cryptocurrency world has just started and most alt-coins have a very bright future.

We believe that the trades that happened were emotional trades limited to: fear.

89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Primecoin is STILL our best investment advice, recent actions verifies the shift on: November 21, 2013, 07:35:27 PM
Primecoin has been our best investment advice since it hit its lowest value since launch (0.0008 BTC per XPM). Primecoin has showed buy resistance around 0.001 BTC per XPM and has a potential short term value of 0.01 BTC per Primecoin. We believe that Primecoin is the most innovative coin out there and that it can attract many more investors, merchants and private users in the coming months to follow.

Regarding the longterm value of Primecoin we believe it can come close to 0.03 BTC per XPM within the end of next year (or even more). To read more about Primecoin you can visit our Primecoin information page.

The buy volume on mcxNOW was about 21 000 Primecoins and on BTC-e it added up to more than 40 000 Primecoins, with and added value of more than 800 Bitcoins with the current low prices of Primecoin.

91  Economy / Speculation / Why Bitcoin will fail in the coming weeks (and alt-coins will rise) on: November 19, 2013, 12:53:05 PM
The graph shows the Bitcoin price on the trading engine BTC China. It peaked today with the price 6989 CNY per Bitcoin. This is a historically high Bitcoin price. 6989 CNY is around 1140 USD. Now, the big question is: will the Bitcoin price keep going up? Our answer is NO. The market is not ready to carry the price of Bitcoins above 1000 USD. And that is what we are witnessing now:

93  Economy / Service Discussion / Why is the Bitcoin price so different on the various Bitcoin Exchanges? on: November 18, 2013, 07:32:53 AM
Have you ever wondered why there is shuch a big spread on the different Bitcoin Exchanges? Most of the time it seems like Mt. Gox has the most expensive price of Bitcoin compared to USD, closely followed by BTC China (and sometimes vica versa).

Bitstamp is one of the Bitcoin Exchanges that always keep having the lowest Bitcoin price. What is the reason for this? A good explenation could be that it is much easier to withdraw money from Bitstamp and the customers have more trust in the service than they do in Mt. Gox’ service. While BTC China simply is being pushed to it’s max by the increasing high demand of Bitcoins. And there is very hard for Chinese people to transfer money out of China to put it into e.g. Bitstamp or any other Bitcoin exchanges. That’s why the domestic price keeps rising and pushing other exhanges up as well.

Mt. Gox have experienced problem with transferring USD to its customers since the summer of 2013 because of problems with the US government. Bitstamp is based in UK with its banking system in Slovenia making withdrawals faster and at this point more secure. You also have the Bitcoin exchange in Russia BTC-e that keeps a value around Bitstamp’s and Mt. Gox’.

There is a lot of money being made by simply transferring Bitcoins and USD from the different services. However, there is a big risk of doing so and you could end up in loosing a lot of money. More on this venture later on CryptoCoinsNews.com.

95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The coming weeks will determine the future of Bitcoin (And Alt-Coins) on: November 15, 2013, 01:18:55 PM
Since Bitcoin got an increased interest in China beacuse of “China’s State Press Calls for ‘Building a de-Americanized World’” and “Breaking news: Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) accepts BITCOIN!” it has continued upwards from a low of 130 USD per Bitcoin to now more than 450 USD per Bitcoin.

So why does this happen now, and why so quick? From our yesterday’s post “Bitcoin: Player or pretender (video)” they are telling us that the Chinese may look at Bitcoin as a way to transfer CNY out of China and into other projects, funds, or tax safe havens (even in Bitcoin themselves). As it is now very hard for people in China to transfer funds legally into US dollar.

But there are also growing skepticism about the development of Bitcoin and the future of it. In our post “Is It Time to Boycott All US Bitcoin Companies? (voice)” the Bitcoin community itself explains that they are skeptic about the new entities trying to enforce identification of Bitcoin-users through different services to make it more appealing for the governments around the world. And as Tom Gullen writes “Bitcoin’s UK Future Looks Bleak” saying: “As anyone in the UK who has attempted to open a bank account to run a Bitcoin business knows, as it stands your chances are slim to none.”

97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin in serious trouble? on: November 10, 2013, 12:45:09 PM
From: http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2013/11/10/bitcoin-serious-trouble/

Since the peak of 2630 CNY (430 USD) per Bitcoin yesterday the price has dropped to 2140 CNY/BTC which is about 350 USD per Bitcoin. If we look at the top peaks compared to the bottom peaks on the graph above, we can clearly see a shift towards a downtrend for the coming days. From the peak of 2630 CNY it fell to 1900 CNY where it hit a good buy resistance, bouncing it back to 2250 CNY where it hit a sell resistance (now developing).

Regarding the massive trading volume we can see a clear change to sell orders instead of buy orders that have been the trend for the last couple of weeks.

This might be the time to do two things:

1. Sell your Bitcoins for USD or CNY and wait for a couple of days to get an overview of the trading trends and happenings in the market as Bitcoin could experience an even bigger drop very soon after the market has cooled down.

2. Buy back into alt-coins / other crypotcurrencies that experienced a loss to Bitcoin when Bitcoin rallied upwards. The current alt-coin with the biggest potential at the moment is Primecoin (XPM) because it has continued down to one of its lowest price of 0.002 BTC per XPM since its launch this summer. Other cryptocurrencies has still been quite stable. We believe Primecoin (XPM) got the most potential.
98  Economy / Securities / Invest your bitcoins in the new Cryptocurrency Investment Fund - 1000 SHARES on: November 08, 2013, 06:11:14 PM
We in the Cryptocurrency Investment Club have started a Cryptocurrency Investment Fund that will focus on trading cryptocurrencies to gain more Bitcoins for the long run. This cryptocurrency investment fund has a high risk factor but might gain a lot in the coming months and years compared to holding Bitcoins or other digital coins.

To join the Cryptocurrency Investment Fund ONE:

1. Send us an email to crypto (at) cryptocoinsnews.com with how much you would want to invest saying you agree to the Terms of Service.
2. After we have received your email, and replied back with an acceptance you need to send your Bitcoins to the bitcoin address we will provide you.

How the Cryptocurrency Investment Fund ONE will work:
1. We will sell 1000 shares of the Fund ONE for 1 Bitcoin per share. If you buy 1 share you own 0.1% of Fund ONE.
2. You can always send us a withdrawal request and it will be processed within 7 days as long as we have enough Bitcoins at the current time, or else you would need to accept mixed payment in other coins as well.
3. We take a commission of 20% of the profit each month, this means that if the investment fund decreases in value we will not be paid for that month.

We will post monthly updates about the development of the investment fund ONE on cryptocoinsnews.com and send the members of the fund ONE a separate email.
