82  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Web wallets that are RFC6979 complaint ?? on: December 16, 2014, 03:00:28 PM
Keeping personal backups is something that scares me more than a good web wallet service with client-side encryption.

Strange that blockchain.info never said anything about Johoe's attack on the blog. No statement at all..

I'm inclined to go for BitGo.com. Any thoughts?
83  Other / Beginners & Help / Web wallets that are RFC6979 complaint ?? on: December 15, 2014, 09:21:39 PM
After Johoe's kick-ass move with blockchain.info I don't feel safe with them anymore.

But, I'm not able to find out which web wallets are at the moment exposed to  "weak addresses that reveal private keys". Can anyone tell?

bitgo.com looks good... Are they safe with regard to this?

We want to see Johoe as the chairmain of  bitcoin foundation !

85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: December 02, 2014, 05:08:52 PM
Big thanks to all responsible for mymonero.com. It's a great service for the community.

One question though:

If for some reason mymonero.com stops working, what would be the procedure for importing private key into simplewallet ? I guess private key is called "spend" key in mymonero.com ? Also there is "view" key. What is that?

Put your Spend, View, and Public key in an encrypted document with a strong password. The view key allows you to let someone else view your balance without giving them your spend key. Cryptography is cool.

Already did that, of course. But I was wondering if site goes offline for some reason and I need to fallback to simplewallet again, what would I need to do in order to import my key ("spend key" I guess?) back into simplewallet ?

Or is it maybe login key (word sequence) enough to recover whole wallet ? Can I start simplewallet with those as starting arguments?

87  Economy / Speculation / Re: POLL: Next rally's ATH on: November 20, 2014, 05:28:23 PM
1. Soon major technology companies may announce Bitcoin mining divisions that can meet the demands of the markets.
2. Then I would guess closer to 10k, but of course it will correct between 3-6k (rule of thirds) before becoming publicly traded by licensed brokers on Wall Street.
3. Then it will grow at the rate of adoption and less on speculation.

 Grin

This post makes no fucking sense in such a beautiful gradual fashion, it made me LOL so hard!
88  Other / Off-topic / Re: libraries that parse the forum on: September 10, 2014, 08:37:04 PM
Great topic. I'd also like to try some text mining / dictionary analysis on users/threads.

Is there (a legitimate way) to connect to back-end or html parsing has to be performed ?
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 10, 2014, 04:09:49 PM
I have parsed the ANN topics ...
Programmatically? Source code available?
Yes, in PHP. I did not make this code to be public so it's crap and pretty messy, but if you want it here it is anyway:
Code:
https://mega.co.nz/#!RgtBGYgL!Qg7n540VNadNhTa1eaIJj3xdDVCY79mqDROdfnjAI6c

Bit OT, but is there a reliable library that parses the forum (all of it)? Does anyone
know how eg http://blockchained.com/ works?

I'm also interested in this if anyone can point to some topic or answer directly? It's not only blockchained , one guy is running a completely paralel forum (https://bitcointa.lk/) with all afterward deleted posts, so that you can track if a user was removing his posts here.

I have a crazy idea to do a text mining / dictionary analysis on some users/threads. Is it possible for someone not having admin access, to extract threads from back-end not to parse the html?
90  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] IceDrill.ASIC IPO (235 Thash Mining Operation powered by HashFast) on: September 10, 2014, 04:04:29 PM
no point in going after icedrill, better of suing terra and will personally to get them removed from being CEO's. New CEO could sell everything and split the remain BTC

Prepare for cognitive scenario. This time I really wouldn't mind.. Let's  just get over with this pathetic little security that won't be seen even under hash microscope in 3 months from now.

Sorry but imo Monero is a joke pretending to be serious.

Wealth preservation is the art of allocating between the least-shitty alternatives.

Please, If someone can just make a short update.. I'm following thread from the start but can't recall when/why AnonyMint thinks Monero is a joke.. Thanks.

Has anyone successfully compiled bitmonerd/simplewallet on Arch ?

- Executing binaires just gives me: "core dumped"

- Trying to compile is a hell: first the script wants to execure "sudo apt get install" for the boost 1.55 ?!?! Probably doesn't get that I already have it. Then it gets stucked on "No CMAKE_C_COMPILER could be found". I have all base-devel installed.

Have you got gcc 4.9+ installed?

Hi ff, thanks for replying. I run chakra linux which is kde arch basically. 64bits.

Kernel 3.15.5-1
gcc 4.9.0.8
cmake 3.0.0.1
make 3.82
boost 1.55

95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore CryptoNote GPU Miner v6.1 on: August 29, 2014, 06:54:50 AM
My stats:

3 x R9 290 (sapphire, powercolor and gigabyte). That's without "x".
14.7 driver
12GB RAM
claymore 6.1

Surprising 1960 H/s

I run with -a 1 switch nothing else changed..

I'm using Corsair AX1200i PSU with corsair link dongle so I can report power usage as well: it's between 250 - 270 W per card. Powercolor being the most greedy one...

Temps: ~78C on all of them. They are working at room temperature with no additional fans just their own.

Any Ducknote XDN fans in here?

with the recent wallet news and subsequent price spike I have started to dabble

I think it shows potential to be a "fun" tipping type currency in the CN space (similar to DOGE for a different userbase)

thoughts?

Stay away from any CN but Monero. Read this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=740112.0

and pass the word. That guy deserves a gold watch from the community for his time and effort.

Can dev put a graph out, where I can see how much new coins will be mined per day/month/year.

Thatīs the biggest problem, that keeps me out buying. I will not buy a coin, when the supply doubles in a couple of days.

And just to say itīs not, it takes 10 years etc. doesnīt help me to decide.

i think XCN is a really promising coin, but another thing to keep an eye on is distribution - due to some early miners throwing massive hashes at it, I think XCN is concentrated in a few large holders.

This coin wasted itself in first 4 hours of existence. It's a GPU ambush. Pretty common scam nowdays, release a "cpu" coin, with a gpu miner ready at launch. Nice idea about minichains though. Wait for a clean release of it.

How to turn a nice idea into a pile of shit in 4 hours:

http://minichain.info/address/CNCzEBdvxzKSsGGdeqdGv17zuyWLeyAFvw

Yea, that's quite a nice highly optimized GPU miner you have there.  This is like when Maxcoin launched with a couple guys having Nvidia miners on day 1 mining 5000x faster than everyone else.

XCN price is a train wreck waiting to happen until there's a long and reasonable explanation about that address.

All you really have to do is look at precedent we already have for coins where any hidden GPU miners are involved.  Every single one of those coins had apocalyptic price crashes from the initial price.  The coin is a complete gamble at the moment.  This concludes the XCN r0ach report.

Having GPU miner as part of the release bundle at very launch has to be mandatory for coin to be considered as "fairly" launched. CPU2GPU ratio is irrelevant. Even if it is 1:1 it simply has to be released immediately.

This shit is going down the drain as soon as someone forks it and make a fair release with gpu miner at very launch. This is DRK all over again..Price after only  4 days passed is just ridiculous. Anyone still dumb enough to buy will just be a bagholder.

Just fork it and use a different PoW.

If you want people to be able to mine at all on CPUs while also having GPU miners, use Cryptonight (from Monero), otherwise just use whateever X-blah variant is popular now or even Scrypt or SHA. If the mini-blockchain is the thing that makes this valuable then there is no legitimate reason to concoct a brand new PoW.

I'd also suggest the slow-start reward thing I mentioned several pages back. Ramp up the rewards over the first week or two so whatever initial launch issues there might be (bad builds, not enough seeds, etc.) get fixed before the full reward kick in.

That's the way to do it! Looking forward for Cryptonite's monero !  Cool
