81  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BTCMiner - Open Source Bitcoin Miner for ZTEX FPGA Boards, 215 MH/s on LX150 on: August 07, 2013, 08:23:58 AM
I have one board which is being disabled showing the following error:
Code:
Read hash data: error sending control message: No such device: Disabling device
Sometimes after 10, 20 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours.... anyway, enough to affect mining.

Firmware on the boards has been upgraded to the latest available version.
I believe I have ruled out a faulty USB hub and USB cables by swapping cables and plugging the board in directly to USB without an external hub.
Power supplies have been swapped with the same result. Eventually, I'll get around to making a cable for a large regulated power supply I have to completely rule out the power supply.

In the end, the problem was with the power supplies... both little cheap wall warts. After switching to a 12V 5A regulated power supply, no problems. Maybe not as efficient in term of power, but the boards have mined reliably for days without having to restart anything.

What is that small fall after 78000 ?
Is it real or you have error in your data ?

No error, its all in the blockchain. After bottoming out August 2nd-3rd it has climbed steadily until now.

I've had my hands a bit full but will post a link to a new chart in a few hours.

Getting a LOT of orphans today :/

I noticed that if you start a machine where the blockchain is not up to date and where the wallet is more current, transactions show up as orphans until the blockchain is synced.

Smiley Doing my mandatory first post. Just getting started with bitcoins and trying to get a hang of them. Its nice to be apart of a forum based around them.

May I suggest looking into primecoins.

CUDA is mentioned in the ypool miner's Git repo. I haven't looked at it it in much detail but a few days a go there was a link to a paper about porting GNUMP to CUDA.

It looks like I am not able to upload images to this board yet, pity. Oh well, I would like to have shared it here I figured the simplest thing to do would be to blog it.

There you'll find a plot of the last nearly two weeks of difficulty...

Very nice work Lyddite !

Bookmarked. It clearly shows the sudden rise I was talking about. I wonder what caused it, difficulty was lower nicely a few days ago then booom...

Thank you Tamis.

More charts in the next few days.

Difficulty increase the past few days :

I have a graph of the past few days, difficulty. There is a link in this post. Unfornately I am not yet able to post attachments here yet.

Edit : 5 servers down - Still made 20 blocks today and got an hour left. Keeping 30 servers for the night, I'll see if I terminate more in the morning.

You seem to have dedicated quite a bit of infra to this. :-)  Today, I decided to shut down a larger machine and wait and see if the difficulty drops. (No I don't think what I run has a impact on the difficulty.)

To get this thread back to a warm fuzzy feeling, I will throw out a few small xpm donations, who wants some ?

Hmmmm, great thread so far. Can't immediately think of was has not been said yet.

Well primecoin is the first crypto-currency I have had the fortune to solo mine. I guess one of the most important things to consider with mining is being sure to run the software that performs the best. Follow the forums proactively, not all but many  other miners are. Keep your software up to date, benchmark and tweak setting until you are comfortable. Backup your wallet, set your wallet passphrase, keep your miners and wallets safe with strong passwords.

By the way, I made my first trade today, in person, some of my XPM for BTC.

Does hp8 compile with only 256mb of ram ?

I noticed that at a certain point, probably when compiling main.cpp, compilation would fail due to lack of memory. The compiler was using about 600 Megs at the time believe.
The error from gcc didn't say anything about memory but dmesg showed a problem.

Code:
Out of memory: Kill process 10876 (cc1plus) score 949 or sacrifice child
Killed process 10876 (cc1plus) total-vm:615808kB, anon-rss:578368kB, file-rss:776kB

If you set up some swap space, perhaps a half a gig, hp8 should compile without problem.  I believe the extra memory is only needed for compiling main.cpp.

Is there some regression in the latest version? I realize that the rate of finding primes is not the only thing to consider.

Here is some data from a machine running a clone of CVS from a few hours ago today (
"version" : "v0.1.1xpm-93-g0751bbd-beta-hp8" )

2013-08-01 17:01:15 primemeter   7875206 prime/h 162190130 test/h  120 5-chains/h 0.178356 chain/d

2013-08-01 17:03:15 primemeter   7809919 prime/h 161926985 test/h  300 5-chains/h 0.177141 chain/d

And data from hp8 ("version" : "v0.1.1.0-unk-beta-hp8")

2013-08-01 17:06:52 primemeter  11272017 prime/h  96159859 test/h       240 5-chains/h
2013-08-01 17:07:52 primemeter  11382319 prime/h  97891766 test/h       240 5-chains/h
2013-08-01 17:08:52 primemeter  11387602 prime/h  97631808 test/h       600 5-chains/h
2013-08-01 17:09:52 primemeter  11423666 prime/h  97832785 test/h       420 5-chains/h

More tests are being run per hour which I suppose is a good thing. The sievesize remained the same.

Anything official or not going on this year 2013 at Assembly with respect to Bitcoins?

I remember reading something about a competition earlier in the year but now there is nothing.

I have one board which is being disabled showing the following error:
Code:

Sometimes after 10, 20 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours.... anyway, enough to affect mining.

Power supplies have been swapped with the same result. Eventually, I'll get around to making a cable for a large regulated power supply I have to completely rule out the power supply.

Until then I made a little Expect script to detect and reset the disabled miner. Expect is a program that can "talk" to other interactive programs via a script. My script is by no mean perfect but gets the job done and it resets the miner and has been running unattended for the past day so I figured I would share it.

I have tested this on Debian linux, you need to install "expect" in order to run it.
Code:
apt-get install expect
should be enough on Debian or Ubuntu.

Then start monitoring the following command:

Code:
expect ztex_restart_disconnected.exp

More details about the scripts below.

Two scripts are needed first a simple script containing the you use to start BTCMiner. The scripts should in the same directory as BTCMiner.....jar

The first script, start_ztex is what you use to start your cluster. eg... with mine I connect to a local stratum pool. You will need you change at least the host, port , username , password and perhaps firmware.

start_ztex.sh
Code:
#!/bin/bash
#
java -cp ZtexBTCMiner-121126.jar BTCMiner -v -host http://192.168.1.XX:XXXX -u XXXX -p x -f ztex_ufm1_15d.ihx -v -m c

The second script, is the expect script which monitors the output

ztex_restart_disconnected.exp
Code:
#!/usr/bin/expect -f
#
set timeout -1
spawn $env(SHELL)
match_max 100000
expect "*\$ "
send -- "./start_ztex.sh"
expect  "./start_ztex.sh"
send -- "\r"
expect  "(Re)Scanning bus ... \r"

# wait for error, then send r return
# first check resets right after the error
# second line for other more rarely errors that may disable the device (resets on the next device status line)
while  1  {
    expect {
        "Read hash data: error sending control message: No such device: Disabling device\r"
            { sleep 10 ; send -- "r\r" ; exp_continue }
        "Device disabled since\r"
            {  send -- "r\r" ; exp_continue }
    }
}

Hi!

I'm new too. I've been lurking for a few months and mining for a couple. Probably should have signed up mich earlier.

I have fiddled with mining with CPU, GPU, mining and FPGAs. As Far as SHA-256 based coins go. I would be hard pressed to break more than 800 Mhash/s.
Right now, currently mining with CPUs for Primecoins, GPUs for Litecoins and FPGAs for Bitcoins.
