Will Darkcoin implement the Zerocoin protocol when it is available?

No, and nor should it. ZeroCoin uses research-level cryptography. This sounds fancy and impressive to most people but as a researcher myself, I would never trust more than $5 of my money on it. We just don't know how it could be exploited because it hasn't been around long. It has other hurdles as well, but this is the main objection.

In contrast, the CoinJoin approach is conceptually sound and doesn't make any drastic changes. Crypto transactions are irreversible and there's no insurance so I want confidence, not novelty.
Ok. All good points.  I was unaware of potential exploits in Zerocoin but makes sense.

What is the difference between Darkcoin and Zerocoin? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5241291#msg5241291

I understand the difference but will DRK implement zerocoin protocol?

84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Is Your Favourite Altcoin & Why? on: March 05, 2014, 04:29:18 AM
My fav coin is DarkCoin because they are working on tools to anonymize transactions and have promised to implement the Zerocoin protocol when it is made available. Also the x11 algo is ASIC resistant and runs much cooler than scrypt.  Power usage is down about 35% compared to scrypt.  My house is no longer an oven.

When darksend is ready....maybe we should have a giveaway?
Brilliant idea - but only if done in a very dispersed and organised way.

News from a Chinese miner forum:http://cybtc.com/article-655-1.html

Rockxie, who is the exclusive distributer for Asicminer's mining machine in China, announced that he will produce his own miners.
The sample miner will be availble in April and the chips would be AM's Gen3.

specification: AM gen3 chips, 40nm, 1TH, 500W.

Indicates 0.5 W/GHs and that the tapeout was successful?  Am I missing something?
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 05, 2014, 03:29:50 AM
Make your homeworks dudes.
It will never give an airdrop which will happen in one day on the 25th.

step by step will be the procedure
This makes a lot of sense.  Issue coins to Icelanders at the same rate of mining.  Would fit in with the halving.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I missed the Auracoin train, what's the next one? on: March 05, 2014, 01:51:40 AM
I see lots of +1s for Darkcoin, and while I do believe it has potential, personally I would hold out and invest in Zerocoin when it comes out in May. Zerocoin could certainly rival BTC - it's had a buzz around it for practically a year now and is currently being developed by a team at MIT.
Darkcoin will push out zerocoin protocol. The zerocoin devs are reluctant to develop a coin themselves due to fear of prosecution.
89  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin the most important technological achievement of our lifetime? on: March 05, 2014, 01:49:23 AM
Bitcoin is second most important after cold fusion. Ok, I can hear the laughing.

MIT is running a cold fusion lecture for second year running.  National Instruments also have an annual conference on cold fusion. And ELFORSK, the Swedish energy peak research body have issued a statement that they have discovered unexplained large power outputs from ECats.

Cheap, clean energy is the most important technological breakthrough.

While this would be an EPIC innovation as well, if the majority of the human population cannot afford and/or enjoy it because of financial oppression, then it would be secondary. However, I am not certain if we're seeing THAT level of financial oppression or not. Come to think of it, the concept of open source may proove to be important as well. Inventions may be supressed, but its hard to supress a viral open source technology of an idea that is suddenly released and then becomes demanded by the people.... If I ever stubled upon a clean energy tech, I'd be tempted to release it in this manner so I wouldn't find myself bought off or killed to prevent it from reaching market.

But I digress, I admit have a bit of a tin foil hat, but I don't know just how deep the rabbit hole goes. LOL  Grin
It'd work out something like this: one country starts using it, say china. Then all the other countries cannot afford not to adopt the technology and compete.

darkcoin name is a bit misplaced, xcoin was a good enough name

We have doge coin, sexcoin, tittie coin, fuck coin, and extreme coin. Yet somehow, people will see dark coin and slink away from the association? I don't buy it.
None of those are socially acceptable either, except doge of course.

If you put darkcoin in a twitter feed, everyone will auto assume you are a customer of Silk Road. I'm just saying that the coin name is one of the major factors in social propagation.

it has already inspired the creation of a 'darkroad'....

That's Right. Loydie, let me ask you, what motivates you to be interested in an anonymous currency?
I see anonymous currency as the right of everyone to privacy and democracy.

I think you guys are on the right track on the technology front, both on the anonymity front and the x11 algo. I also like that you intend to push out the zerocoin protocol when it is available. The name however is a drawback for mass adoption. I overlook stuff like that but many others won't.

In fact, i'd like to develop a coin based on darkcoin. Please PM me if interested.

Getting back on topic... how's the Beta 2 testing going?
As someone with a significant amount of btcs invested, the coin name is important to me. I think it is the major factor holding the coin back.

Some other suggestions if the word "coin" is to be kept: StashCoin

Top 100 digital currencies by social media presence (Reddit+Facebook+Twitter followers):

http://crypt.la/2014/03/01/top-100-digital-currencies-by-social-media-presence/

1   Bitcoin....... 410,184
2   Dogecoin.... 207,791
3   Litecoin...... 37,596
4   ReddCoin.... 36,092
5   Vertcoin..... 34,594

...

55   DarkCoin.... 582

LOL. Behind such titans as BBQCoin.

Impressive, though, that DRK has the market cap that it does. Comparable to VertCoin with far less awareness.

Note: the list is missing our /r/DRKCoin subscribers so I added that in.

We're not even a blip on the radar yet, but I think that's good.  It's funny eduffield said he wanted to have the same kind of growth Bitcoin had, and though it's expedited, it's really amazing how closely we're following their footprints.  On an expedited timeline, yes, but similar growth pattern.

I'm a fan of this coin and have some. But promotion isn't going to make/break this coin. If you really believe in it, don't stress on the daily price. This will rise or fall based on 2 things.

1. How successful DarkSend is when people starting kicking the tires and test how anonymous the transactions truly are.

2. Market adoption. I think there's enough people, regardless of transaction type, that would like to know it's truly (or more?) anonymous. If it works as advertised, people will want & use it.

You know, I see this market adoption sentiment everyday and I have to ask, if people don't know about the product, how can they adopt it? Believe it or not, marketing can make or break a coin. A quick stroll down the alt coin list shows as much. I'm not even talking about the pump and dumps. See Quark, Max, vert and the like.

I won't lie, seeing those coins gain exposure while dark remains dormant is disheartening. Hell a quick google search turns up very little on dark. That list of coin exposure should tell us something. No one is going to market dark for us. If we say we are going to hold for long term, you should understand that this is a different calibre of markets. New coins saturate the markets everyday. Lets not bury our heads in the sand here. See earthcoin for a great example of a coin that depended too much on the whole "long term" plan. That coin has lost 800% value in under 2 months and is sinking lower as other alt coins rise.

Just my two cents... And to answer the unasked question, yes I try to promote dark coin on Reddit.

I agree, when Dogecoin first came out, it had nothing but good marketing going for it and it BLEW UP. Missed that train myself cuz I thought it was gonna take more than that kind of marketing for a coin to do good. Boy was I wrong lol
No one wants to be associated with the word "dark" in social circles. The coin could do with a new marketing strategy. Try: Cash, Bucks, Coin, incognito or incog. Try dropping "coin" altogether from the name.

Does anybody know why difficulty is spiking and dropping and spiking and dropping?  I thought DRK was multipool resistant?

I think it's because people come in, try to mine, find it's not profitable and leave again.  At current rates, mining is not profitable, not even close.  But if you believe the coin will be useful and well accepted in the future, you don't mind mining it at current rates.

Most of the people here that "believe" in this coin, and I'm one, don't want it hyped but would rather see it increase in value naturally.  However, that'll be a pipe's dream, LOL.  Cryptos are a rollercoaster ride no matter what!
It seems profitable to me... Getting approx. 10 coins per day with 3 x R280x  OR am i missing something?

that my friend, is multipool resistance
I didn't realise that multipools were even able to mine DRK?

In hindsight the Airdrop should happen in very small batches to avoid a huge selloff.
Maybe they can do something like 10,000 coins per day max.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 04, 2014, 12:25:22 PM
Please don't exceed the actual Iceland GDP ( $14.6 billion ) ...

If it does we'll know it's a bubble for sure. Lol.
