81  Local / Markt / Re: Antminer S1 + voeding NIEUWE PRIJS: 0.4 BTC on: August 23, 2014, 02:45:35 AM
82  Local / Markt / Re: Antminer S1 + voeding NIEUWE PRIJS: 0.4 BTC on: August 22, 2014, 03:36:51 PM
Binnen 2 weken: 45 €
83  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S3 upgrade kit???? on: August 19, 2014, 09:27:31 PM
It was almost never profitable to mine bitcoins when compared to electricity costs.
When we were mining with CPU, the electricity bill was 100x more expensive that the coins we won.
Same when the GPU mining started, 100x more expensive.
Of course afterwards when the bitcoin price rose many many times, it was profitable Smiley

Same as now, it you calculate your mining costs with a bitcoin price of 500, you're not going to have a positive ROI.
But if you hope for bitcoin price of 3, 5 or 15 thousand, the numbers look really different.

As for the kits, no i'm undervolting (10k pot mod) my S1's to add to their lifespan.
If you can get defective S1's for free, that would be a good option.
84  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: August 17, 2014, 04:39:05 PM
I finished undervolting my first 3 S1's with 10k pots.
2 are running fine, 1 is getting 1 to 8 x's after 24h.
Does anyone know how to translate the position of the X-marks in the status screen to the actual location on the S1 ??
That'll make it a lot easier to re-check the ant.
I did order a finer point (1.6mm) for my weller to do the next 4 S1 ...
85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: August 12, 2014, 06:24:07 PM
Some experience with undervolting:
- soldering 10k pots is VERY hard. the first 3 took ages since it is both very small and the solder does not take easily. On top of that when you heat too long the smd resistors fry and go up in resistance. luckily you can compensate with the pots.
- the clue is to solder quickly (and use fresh solder within a few secs)
- I used 10k pot in parallel so to lower the resistance to 2.9kohm (from 4.47kohm). I need to set my pots to 8.3kohm for this

So this was stock:
395W at wall (from a Corsair 80+ gold psu), 180Gh/s, 350Mhz

I tried 300Mhz but gave too much HW's.

So then I tried 275Mhz:
192W at wall, 140Gh/s

So a reduction of 23% in hashing power gives a reduction of 52% in power consumption.
Power consumption is now 1.37 W/Gh (down from 2.2 W/Gh).
Fan powers down to 1440rpm (down from 2160rpm)

I'll run this for a day to see how it goes.
Then try 1 antminer with pencil method and see how that holds up.

Anyone did the potentiometer modding with also removing the SMD completely? How is that done ?

Question about the PCIe connectors and normal 12V-0V connectors.
I am using Corsair CX500M (38A on 12V rail) to power 1 ANt.
When I voltmod them it will be possible to power 2 ants on 1 PSU.

Question.
Can I connect just 1 cable from PSU to ANT, and then connect the 2 normal 12V-0V between the 2 boards ?
Will that work ?
I should think so but never tried...
87  Local / Markt / Re: OP VOORRAAD! 4x 1 TH/S (1000 gh/s) Bitcoin miner AntMiner S2! on: August 06, 2014, 08:36:47 PM
88  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has Anyone Been Successful Mining BitCoins? If So, What Have You Done? on: August 06, 2014, 03:31:57 PM
CPU mining back in 2010: profitable (in retrospect), investments were zero and only cost was electricity
GPU mining in 2010/2011: hugely profitable in the beginning, was mining directly with 2 AMD gaming cards i had, so again no investments and only cost was electricity
ASIC mining in 2014: with Antminer S1: marginally profitable (0.5 BTC per miner after electricity costs)

So yes I made money, but only because I was lucky to stumble upon bitcoin in the very beginning and invested 2 months CPU and 3 months GPU time (instead of running BOINC).
At this date I do not see how you can make money mining unless you design/produce/sell a nextgen mining asic or scale up in size (>100k€ in mining equipment).
89  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: Nieuw met mining, on: August 04, 2014, 08:01:41 PM
90  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: Bitcoins minen? on: August 04, 2014, 07:54:59 PM

91  Local / Markt / Re: Antminer S1 te koop aangeboden on: August 03, 2014, 06:14:32 AM
Uw adres ?

93  Local / Markt / Re: Antminers S1/S3 on: July 05, 2014, 01:15:23 PM
Paar vraagjes:
- zijn de S1 met PCIe connectors ?
- welke voeding wordt meegeleverd ?
- transportkost naar Belgi๋ (1840 Londerzeel) ?

Mvg

94  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will Satoshi do with his stash? on: June 22, 2014, 06:49:36 PM
I don't think Satoshi is a group of people. It would be extremely difficult to keep a secret with more than a few people, especially when that secret is worth millions or billions.
Also I think that he realises that the known Satoshi coins can never be moved and I presume he has already erased the private keys for those adresses. It is just too great a risk that someone else releases them.
95  Economy / Speculation / Re: It is just a matter of time on: June 16, 2014, 11:09:38 AM
There are some other possibilities for the BTC price to go up:

1. major EU country gets into difficulty with their debt (France, Italy) and at that time the threat of a public haircut will high. We've seen this with Greece and Cyprus.

2. The US starts to "attack" the financial position of some well known islands like Bahama's, Virgin Islands, ... They could tell banks that wire transfers in USD can no longer be executed with these countries since they refuse to divulge account information about US citizens. They already did this with Switserland and to my surprise it actually worked. There's boatloads of money there so if 10% of this ends up into bitcoins ...
96  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it profitable to mine? on: June 16, 2014, 11:02:46 AM
Is this about  right? Has mining become such a commodity right now that you might hope to recoup only a few percentage profit over time on a capital investment?

Simply: yes

The only ones who are making real money with mining are the company's that produc mining equipment.
They first use it to mine themselves and when the return starts to slow down, they ship it to their customers. That's why all the pre-orders on the latest mining equipment exits.
97  Economy / Speculation / Re: 3 years ago...let's reminisce on: June 09, 2014, 05:49:29 PM
I started mining CPU somewhere in 2010 and then GPU mining with a 5870 and 5770 end-of-2010.
During 3 months I mined 24/7 with the cards. In the beginning I was winning a block (50 BTC at the time) every 30 hours.
After the 3 months, stopped because it would take about 1 week to win a block and didn't feel like entering a pool (hehe).
Forgot about the whole thing up to the point where BTC > 20 USD. Saw the crash happening and really forgot after that.
When the price recovered I had already reinstalled my pc twice (reformat vista and then win 7). Wallet was gone but fortunately could get it back from my 2 rolling backups.
Finally got an account on Gox, sold some in the rise to 1000, cashed out (and received) quite a bit, bought some gold coins, a trip to Florida, and lost 25k€ in the Gox affair.
98  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 310 Mhash/s is $0.01 per day? on: June 09, 2014, 08:19:52 AM
Mining with this card was never profitable when taking into account the bitcoin price at the time of mining.
In 2010/2011 you could mine lots of bitcoins with this card but the coins were essentially worthless at the time.
The rise of bitcoin price made it (hugely) profitable after the fact, but so would buying 1000USD worth of coins at that time (at 0.05 $/BTC)

Same situation today. The card will cost many times more in electricity than it will get in bitcoins.
If the bitcoin price rises to 1,000,000 USD even this would be profitable.

That being said, using GPU today to mine bitcoins is completely a big no-no. Asic's are the only way now because with todays bitcoin prices you can marginally get your investment back.

For investment purposes this is not the way to go. It is much simpeler just buying the coins and holding them (in well protected wallet, read up on this FIRST).
99  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and Solar Electricity on: April 03, 2014, 04:59:45 PM
We'll I'm installing a solar plant on my roof with some 20% additional power for mining.
Cost in Belgium is about 2.53 $/kWp (1.875 €/kWp).

To give an example: my 2 antminers S1 use 730Watt constantly. Over a year this gives 730*24*365 = 6394 kWh !!
That's about 50% of what I consume now (12000 kWh annually). This of course takes into account that I ran 2 pc's on boinc for the last 5+ years.

The goal is to use up 100% of day solar production. The price at night is about half so that's less a problem.
100  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 power supply on: March 27, 2014, 05:57:39 PM
I think the 62A should suffice for 2 ants. No OC'ing of course.Yuo'll be running at about 92-94% of max.
