Merry Xmas all Cheesy

I've run into what appear to be some serious issues. The client appeared to have been restarting all night (the systray was still loaded with zombie icons)
I uninstalled, then installed the new version. Starting it, I received a critical error with the wallet regarding the db cursor.
Since the client would no longer start I removed all the files in the roaming directory again and got my backup wallet off my USB stick.

Now when I started the client it said 9 weeks out of date but then skipped synching. So the wallet no longer has an accessible balance.

First attempt indicated it might be forking, so I deleted the block chain and started again. The client appears to skip synching again.

Since I still have my wallet backup I'm not too worried about lost coins. Maybe just a little Tongue

Hopefully this is either an isolated or easily traced event.

Yay! After repeated tries and a reboot I finally got sync'd.

I installed the new cudaminer a few minutes ago and it's a huge performance boost. Up to 150 kh/s from 106 kh/s.
Definitely worth grabbing if you haven't already.

I would but I haven't been able to sync with the old versions at all for days. I'll just tough it out until another version comes along.

I uninstalled then did the fresh install, went into my roaming folder and cleared out the old files except for my conf and wallet.
Now when it tries to sync it gets about 10 days away and then it says something about a block chain snapshot and starts syncing from 9 weeks all over again. It loops this repeatedly.

Any way to stop it?

edit: Is this because my slow internet takes 20 minutes or more to sync and the client thinks it has failed?

You can try this. Go back to the previous version you were using, let that sync, and then do a fresh install but don't delete the roaming folder files. When I upgraded I kept the old block and chainstate folders and it seems to be doing fine.

Interesting. I wish I had some beer so I could cry in it. Smiley

If a fork creates useless coins how exactly do they get confirmations? I could see the confirmations counting down on the coins, and then the maturity countdown. It's essentially showing them as valid even though they were garbage once a new sync was performed.

Damn. It *was* too good to be true. All 7500 coins gone Sad

I've done that several times. I usually restart the client every hour or two to make sure it's in sync, since it was always stalling before.

Did something change with the system yesterday? I used to get .3 to 1.2 gridcoins every 30 minutes or so.
In the last 24 hours I mined 7500, at my 106 KHash rate.

I can't complain about my sudden good fortune but this is nuts! Cheesy

Why do most block rewards have the alias I set for them, but occasionally I get transactions that show an address in blueish text for the block reward?

Just found 2 more two minutes apart. I sure hope they don't end up ghosts.

Actually make that four blocks, but one of those vaporized too.
If they orphan they stay in the transaction log right? Because this one vanished from the transactions as well.

There's something magical going on.
Prior to this I'd only found two blocks. One that proc'd and the other vaporized.

Today I found 3 blocks in the last two hours! And that's with a 106 KH/s rate.

The gridcoin gods are smiling!

Jeez. I've only found 2 blocks in twelve days and one of those orphaned.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: December 14, 2013, 09:26:27 PM
I stopped using cudaminer last night just to see how many coins I'd continue to bring it just using the wallet.
No change at all.

So now my video card is free to do other stuff while I bring in gridcoins. Yay Smiley

Probably wasn't finding any big chunks of coins because I only have 106kh.

Alien, I know about that Tongue

I mean when the coin takes off even more and we see the trend towards independent pools turning up.

Will pools need to be specialized for Gridcoin/BOINC?
I think I'm going to do some research into pool operation Smiley

Yes, there is a native pool available by setting poolmining=true in the gridcoin.conf (I have not used it myself)

Oh, I've done salvagewallet, reinstalls, etc.
It just pops up again.

No worries. Just reporting the errors with whatever extra data comes along.

I don't think I reported this particular error before, though I've been getting it regularly:

System error: CDB(): can't open database file wallet.dat, error -30974

Even when I use my backup wallet to recover that will pop up again after a bit.

There should be a gridcoin bug bounty program Cheesy
As TribalBob suggested, doing the
gridcoin-qt -salvagewallet
command may work for you.

This bug is affecting about 10% of the wallets and seems to go away when you delete your data folder and start a new wallet.  Im working on diagnosing it.  I certainly believe it has something to do with the wallet file, and/or if something is being stored in there making it bigger (that we are not aware of at this time)!

Rest assured Ill be working on this next.
