One of these awesome games could be yours in a few minutes:
Magicka 0.8 BTC Portal: 0.8 BTC
Also, if you buy Magicka, you'll immediately have a friend to play with online (me)
I'm naturally willing to use an escrow service, and both games will register on Steam.

Is this still up for sale?

What exactly is "grandma style"?
something your grandmother would understand, even though she's demented and not very smart.

You should actually do this and sell it as a product. No doubt several people would be willing to pay for this, and it would help the community a great deal.
I had this idea as well. We'll see, I'd prefer to release everything for free though. Maybe I'll sell preconfigured USBsticks.

You don't happen to hang around C&P of the EVE-online forums, do you?
I only know the meaning of one of those things, and I've never visited either. Guess it's just the hivemind popculture seeping in. And why is thinkweis getting donations in my thread? So far, this whole HOWTO gained me a single donation of 0.001 btc. /DramaQueen Maybe I should've added some screenshots, or pictures of cats

Donation sent. This would do a world of good, spreading BTC. Security worries are the #1 concern and most everyday currency users -- think about it, that is the target demographic! -- are not comfortable with current procedures.
Received, thanks a lot for the big sum! I'm happy to see this gaining a little momentum I would like computers and mobile devices hosting bitcoin clients to be compliant with Trusted Computing so that I do not have to worry about malware and keyloggers.
So would I, but that's fairyland at the moment. Well, OSX and Linux are trustworthy enough if you take a little care.

blockexplorer, although you can only explore addresses, not entire wallets

Count me in. I'm sending over a donation now. For what it's worth I'm using a Macbook Air with no CD drive so I'm not sure if this can help me. The more "dummy proof" we can make it the more people will adopt bitcoin and help us build a stronger market. Thanks!
Wow, got your donation, didn't expect as much. Thanks! It will be bootable from a USB-stick, in the meantime just make sure you don't install anything you don't trust. And you might want to use flashblock in your browser if you don't already.

Sigh, so I'll repeat myself: encryption won't do shit, since the file has to be stored decrypted in RAM in order to be actively used. So only a sterile system will guarantee safe interactions with your client.
|
|
|
omg.. the client should automatically encrypt your wallet for you and make your life as easy as possible..
Christ, read the discussion, this already came up like a hundred times.
|
|

Well, BackTrack it (probably) is then, since my first choice was Ubuntu anyway. This is nice, since it might save some hassle with the encryption tools.

Would you be open to using the Gitian ( https://gitian.org/) build method for the live CD? It would allow users to validate the distribution by having it built and signed by multiple developers. I can help with this. Yes, I would be open to it. I didn't know about gitian, but I'm looking into it as we speak. If you want to help, my email is aiwk171@gmail.com, though I'm busy until Tuesday, so my apologies if my replies won't be as swift as they should be. The donation I'll be sending is pretty pathetic, but it's all I've got right now or I'd send more, sorry. Anyway yeah, please do, it'd be really appreciated. If you were to choose a Linux Distro I'd recommend BackTrack, as it's a distro designed spesifically for penetration testing, and therefore, security. Don't apologize, you have my thanks. And as they say, if 50 people contribute just a little, you still get a lot of stuff done by the end of the day. I have to check how well BackTrack does hardware detection, since usability is more important than penetration resistance. It won't be meant as a day-to-day OS. I'll clarify when I have the time. Thanks to everybody so far.

In case anyone here is interested in an all-in-one solution (this request came up frequently in the newbie discussion), I created a poll to see if there is any interest in having something like a simple, grandma-friendly tutorial and a prepackaged operating system, which would come in the form of a bitcoin-only USB-stick that allows safe transfers without the need of any technical affinity. Head over there if you want to express your opinion about this: Poll for an easy security HOWTO (+ operating system)

THis all happend while the disk was mounted...
I understand the need for something really easy and secure, which is a legitimate concern if you're computer-illiterate but interested in bitcoin. So, I decided to make a poll about providing an all-in-one solution: Poll for an easy security HOWTO. This would allow people like bitcoindude to use bitcoin safely with only very little prior knowledge. Feel free to comment on it, but note that it would take me time (not _that_ much, a matter of a week or two) to give you this.

After writing the HOWTO on 100% security, a lot of you requested I do the same thing in a more comprehensible way, or that I provide a solution for absolute beginners. So here's the deal: I have to know if you are serious enough, and if this is worth the trouble. Because if I do this, I'll do it properly, i.e I will test everything I write, there will be an easy guide for Linux, Mac and Windows and I will probably make a one-click solution, which will consist of a specific LiveCD, which already has bitcoin installed, and which will allow you to boot up a secure system and make transactions, without _any_ configuration necessary. I did personalized LinuxCDs before, so this will definitely do-able. The result will be a solution for people with zero computer knowledge. However, since this will take time and effort and since anybody can just click yes on the above poll, I'm asking for donations if you are _really_ serious about having an all-in-one solution. You don't have to send me anything at all, it's up to you. Here's my hat: 16VD78R8nxqJGesE7E9KS6A8TikQQpKNm5 If you happen to find this proposal insulting (which is, that I don't want to spend a week making something that nobody uses), feel free to insult me in the comments below.

Can somebody PLEASE generate a "100% secure wallet FOR DUMMIES" step by step text document on this board. No downloads. Thatway, we older folks can feel safe in the bitcoin universe! This is critical in order to increase demand which will invariably lead to a higher price!!!
Also, once FOR DUMMIES version is posted, please vote on it. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!
If there are enough requests for it, I'll write one. But have a look at the wiki in the meantime.

German and French? I'd prefer to be paid in bitcoins though.

It's still early age for the BTC.
But if we all have to do this tricky stuff, the bitcoin will never thrive as a currency.
You geeky guys should give some solutions for the people not very familiar with these kind of complicated tech skill. Maybe backup\encrypt\import\export\ the wallet.dat function should be put into the future client software.
Bah, first of all, it's not that hard, second of all, you don't _have_ to do it, thirdly, it's only relevant if you handle larger sums. I hope you don't find putting your real money in a bank too geeky and/or hard. I'll say it as often as I have to: Your suggestion would just lead to a false sense of security, and will be useless if the user doesn't know what he's doing. I'm sorry, but that's the reality of it: If you do dumb stuff, behave irresponsibly with large sums, no IT security in the WORLD will save you from the threat of being robbed. So you, as a person who likes it the convenient way, you still have two options: 1. Use Linux. Jesus, at least for bitcoin. And the still, don't click on everything you find on the internet, watch your porn on another account and, ideally, ditch that fuckwad called adobe-flashplayer. 2. Do it as people do with banks: entrust a professional with your money. I'm sure as bitcoin will establish itself, services like that will pop up. Still: if you write down your password to that service somewhere, you're hopeless. And even if you behave like the smart person you are, there may still be risk involved as long as you don't understand the technical side of it. It's not that hard, really. Read the guide in the wiki, it basically recommends setting up a safe account for bitcoin. It's secure enough while still being convenient to use _and_ easy to set up.
