It depends to be honest. It depends on how deep your friendship is and how deep you know the person. Because the fact that you are having doubts right now, means that you haven't really have deep connection in a personal level with your friend. And while you're taking lessons, you have to read a lot of articles and other reading materials, and then you also need to watch movies or short clips that are translates into tjat language which you would like to learn.
