81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 15kDcr9wDhZmvPufKP7vYyELSoLg4bKbAR <- Has paid well over 250BTC in fees?! on: July 06, 2015, 03:09:44 PM
The Bitstamp hacker paid ridiculously high fees to try and get his coins moved out of the Bitstamp hot wallet in the shortest possible time. That address might have belonged to a hacker who wanted to steal someone's coins fast, before they noticed anything was going on. To pay those fees more than once is not likely to be by mistake.

We are going up again. Smiley
Wow! Litecoin +20% on coinmarketcap.Nice pump.

Litecoin has a strong wall at 5 dollars + It's gonna take some force to break... traders seem trepidatious to push through it, but it can be done if slowly I think...

really?? your post was from just 2 hours ago...rofl

honestly, we have no idea what´s next....

no TA can predict this market. It´s more like a bingo... good luck to you all!!

It's more like a crap shoot. Nobody can predict what way it's going to move reliably. Occasionally someone makes a lucky guess and shouts from the rooftops they know what's going to happen next 100% of the time. They always get it wrong sooner or later.
83  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2015, 12:51:31 PM
274.68 on Stamp. Anybody know what % we're up over the last month or so. Things are looking really bullish at the moment, the pessimist in me just wonders how much longer this will continue. We've been battered for so long, I'm just hesitant to get too hopeful only for us to get dumped on again.

What's pushing this swing in sentiment, it can't just be Greece can it?

Coinmarketcap only gives these percentages for up to a week,

% 1 hour   = 0.82 %

% 24 hours = 4.94 %

% 7 days = 8.22 %

Its Bitcoin chart shows $225 at the start of the month and $275 today. Maths isn't my strong point so I thought I'd let someone else do the calculation.

84  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2015, 10:43:12 AM

People will be sending money to exchanges now the banks are open. After it arrives and they start buying the price on the normal exchanges will go sky high. The volume on XBT Provider is an early indicator of things to come.
85  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think bitcoin will reach it's $1000 mark again? on: July 06, 2015, 09:57:55 AM
I think it will be over $1,000 within two years.

so what is the reason you say that, I prefer to think 3-5 years to come bitcoin reached $ 1,000
but anything can happen in the near future

That is just a gestminate. I am happy with 25% a year rise. However, more adoption can make $1,000 within two years.

If a Grexit sparks a domino effect crisis in the EU it could spark off bank runs in many countries which could result in huge adoption of Bitcoin very quickly. When nobody can trust their own banks Bitcoin will suddenly be very attractive to shops, businesses, and customers. $1,000 is easily achievable if people start using it in shops more than bank cards.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Silk Road's Ulbricht Win Appeal? on: July 06, 2015, 09:52:44 AM
......

He never handled any drugs himself, he acted as an intemediary.
There is no law which requires 'handling drugs personally'.  Drug dealing comes in many forms and it is not a requirement to be guilty of drugs dealing - that one 'handle them personally'.  What about the guy who stands on the corner dealing heroin but 'not handling it personally' because he uses a mental retard to hold the drug packages - does he get off too?  Where did you get the idea that just so one doesn't handle them personally - they are innocent?  This is the dumbest idea ever.

....

He did handle some drugs personally. He was one of the first sellers, if not the first seller because he sold magic mushrooms when the Silk Road started. They are not the most serious category of drug but they are illegal in most countries. He admitted to selling magic mushrooms and cultivating them himself, and also his Ebay technician friend who helped him code the Silk Road claimed Ross gave him some mushrooms that he admitted cultivating himself.
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stocks fall globally as Greek talks collapse on: June 19, 2015, 10:57:51 AM
Greece faces banking crisis after eurozone meeting breaks down

"Some €2bn of deposits have been withdrawn from Greek banks so far this week – including a record €1bn yesterday – triggering fears that a breakdown in talks would spark a further flight of funds."

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/18/greece-faces-banking-crisis-after-eurozone-meeting-breaks-down

They are holding a meeting to discuss giving the Greek banks money to stop a bank run. I think they did this during the last crisis. They will probably bailout their banks before things get much worse.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/jun/19/greek-crisis-ecb-meeting-to-decide-on-emergency-funding

Quote
The European Central Bank is holding an emergency meeting on Friday morning to discuss whether to pump more funds into Greek banks to prevent a full-blown banking crisis.

The meeting, starting at noon (11am UK time) via conference call, comes after the acrimonious breakdown of talks between finance ministers in Luxembourg on Thursday night raised the prospect of Greece’s exit from the eurozone.
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Ever Bitcoin Bank to be Opened in Switzerland? on: June 19, 2015, 10:44:53 AM
there isnt a need to control the wallet just need the adress to get the interest paid montly on it ,in this case they would create the wallet us just will be able to see balance ,,,soo the bank couldnt lend our btc to others without we know soo not worthy for a bank... get deposits and offer interest without being able to lend those same money between users lol

But as a Bitcoin user do we really need a bank? This is very logical question and I believe that majority of us would say a BIG NO that we don't need any bitcoin bank to keep our bitcoins safe as it is already safe and we are taking great care of its security as we take of our wife and our child lol  Grin
I agree with your first point. As long as we know how to keep our coins safe, whatever the way you store it, there is no need for these 'banks'. They may charge larger fees for simple tasks, such as withdrawing, because how else would they survive? They'll need to make profit.

But anyways, looks like Bitcoin getting even more popular, and will grab even more people's attention, which is a good thing.

Yes and bank runs on the various charges they charge from their customers. Charges are basically the profits of the bank. If they don't charge they would need to shut down their bank. So why should we pay unwanted charges to bank if we are getting everything for least charges.
Charges and fees are not only and not the biggest part of banks revenues. Banks are taking your funds and use it for various operations, they basically invest your money and multiply them that way.
And now is my question, how exactly bitcoin ban would want to earn from that? You probably need to give that bank full control over your bitcoins, including private key and ability to use your coins as their please.
Are you really fine with that idea?

It depends if the Bitcoin bank is regulated to the same extent as regular banks. There are often mechanisms that ensure that customers of bankrupt/robbed banks get their money back up to a certain limit. Sometimes the state guarantees deposits up to a certain limit, and sometimes other mechanisms provide the same guarantee.

I would trust a Bitcoin bank with my private keys if the state guaranteed to return my Bitcoins if the Bitcoin bank went bankrupt.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kraken to honor Mt. Gox bitcoin claims on: May 26, 2015, 07:57:36 PM
Even though I personally believe that with Gox there was at least serious misconduct or manipulation involved to some degree, he definitely deserves a fair trial - like everyone else. If your company fails, this doesn't necessarily mean you're guilty of something. Businesses (especially start-ups) fail every day. They have to dig and find out whether he was doing anything that was indeed illegal.

He surely deserves a trial, but if Japanese authorities don't think that he's committed any crimes he'll probably stay out of such procedures.

Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper wrote a story half a year ago that claimed the Japanese police believe 99% of the disappeared Bitcoins were due to an inside job, but they have not named a suspect. I doubt their lawyers will let the police name Karples before he has had a fair trial.

http://www.coindesk.com/missing-mt-gox-bitcoins-inside-job-japanese-police/

The disappearance of 99% of the bitcoins missing from Mt Gox can be blamed on internal system manipulation and not any external attack, a major Japanese newspaper has claimed.

Citing an unnamed source connected to the ongoing police investigation, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper led with the story on the front page of its New Year's Day edition. Only 7,000 BTC, or 1% of the total 650,000 missing, could be attributed to hacking attacks from outside the company, it said.

Yomiuri did not elaborate further on the matter.

That a company insider might have been responsible for the theft of 650,000 BTC from Mt Gox has been whispered about for some time, though no-one in particular has been named as a suspect, even unofficially.
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2015, 07:43:35 PM
you can't fight chinese database coin dumpers. they run fractional reserve exchanges and can dump ten thousands of coins on the market over and over again. until this isn't resolved there is no way i'm throwing a single dollar on this scam.

It'll be interesting to see whether they're left completely in the dust once buyers have no shortage of options for exchanges that are actually audited and reputable. Momentum is slowly gathering.

It's pretty amazing that people are still willing to put coins and money into such places.

I wonder if two markets would form - 'legit' and 'murky' with the latter completely separate or whether they'll drag down the proper exchanges. Surely there must be a point where transparency must be supplied to be considered relevant.

The separation of exchanges into two categories seems to already be starting because of KTC regulations. The most compliant exchanges require so much official paperwork that it's difficult to register at them. The other less scrupulous exchanges are easier to register at but are often accused of running fractional reserves because they are never audited.

I think so, but their website says you shouldn't deposit to old Bitfinex addresses. Generate a new Bitfinex address to deposit to.

Dear Customer although we keep over 99.5% of users' BTC deposits in secure multisig wallets, the small remaining amount in coins in our hot wallet are theoretically vulnerable to attack. We believe that our hot wallet keys might have been compromised and ask that all of our customer cease depositing cryptocurrency to old deposits addresses. We are in the process of creating a new hot wallet and will advise within the next few hours. Although this incident is unfortunate, its scale is small and will be fully absorbed by the company. Thanks a lot for your patience and comprehension. Bitfinex Team

why the heck is bitstamp so much cheaper than bitfinex and BTC-e ...

I am starting to regret only using bitfinex since the bitstamp hack... especially because bitfinex got hacked afterwards anyway...

I guess there is less money on Bitstamp and it takes a lot less to pump or dump the price. Maybe we will continue seeing more exaggerated prices on low volume exchanges. I think Bitfinex might also have a mechanism that stops their prices crashing too quickly to protect their leverage system.
93  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2015, 10:08:26 AM
If you ask me, whether it pumps first or not, it's gonna eventually go to double digits, where we'll see if this market is actually bound to reverse and see another bull market or slowly fade into obscurity.

This suggest that you see bitcoin only as some candlestick chart and value it based on "technical analysis" of past market performance.

I guess a lot of people do that. Probably the only reason the price is as low as it is.

Most professional traders probably see bitcoin only as some candlestick chart and value it based on "technical analysis". The last rally probably attracted a huge number of traders from other markets and they could have a big affect on the price.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing the NxtVault - Secure account management for Android devices! Beta on: May 05, 2015, 06:13:27 PM
That's great, Nxt has needed a lightweight wallet for a while now. The blockchain's too big for devices like phones. Will there be a windows version for devices like tablets soon?
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should LOTTOCOIN change to POS? on: May 05, 2015, 06:09:45 PM
As far as I know, Lottocoin uses Scrypt algorithm.

Someone recently asked me the same thing with a different POW Coin.

What kind of algo is lottocoin?

I voted for POS, too. IMHO, POS is the future. Saves energy and gives everyone the chance to find blocks rather then POW where you need big mining farms over time.

I agree,

At this rate there won't be any use for POW miners Tongue

AArrgghhhh... Stop getting BOND WRONG!..

Sorry.. Force of habit.

If you want your coin to be worthless, switch to POS. By all means.

'Bitcoin does not derive it's value from the fact it solves the problem of distributed consensus.'

Ergo - just because you implement a chain which solves DC, does not mean it has value.

That's what the bitcoin mining is for.. The POW.. Please understand. (POS chains are DACs. POW chains are coins.)

Once lotto's mined out the only incentive for miners will be the transaction fees and I doubt they will be worth mining for. PoS seems the only option to keep lotto alive to me.

99  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchange places - fees comparison on: March 28, 2015, 04:58:54 PM
Some exchanges offer fee free trading for a short period after being hacked. Bitstamp was fee free after their hack. It's extremely risky taking advantage of such offers, but they are made for short periods from time to time.

If I had $250 million in Bitcoins I would want to stay anonymous for the rest of my life. I doubt we will be hearing from him again.
