OK yeah I found that.. about 2 seconds after I said I can't see it... sheessh this head cold makes me slow!

Ok now whats this about 'building' it  Can't I just use it as it comes? like I did cgminer? (obviously I've got to create my .bat file)
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin (mandatory update to 1.0.5) on: February 16, 2014, 08:34:25 PM
I use it. I have r9 290's and this is the only miner i know of that doesn't crash on restarts.

http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1va8g2/ann_sgminer_400_release/

that's the reddit announcement for 4.0, they are on 4.1 i believe now. But that post should link to the newest version.

I don't see the download link though.. probably being dumb Sad

I don't understand GIthub either... a bunch of files but for what and where is the download link
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin (mandatory update to 1.0.5) on: February 16, 2014, 08:13:08 PM
Does anyone here use sgminer and understand how to 'build' it, or save me the trouble and tell me where i can just download the complete thing

cheers

Where did you get sgminer from?  I keep reading about 'building' it and feel out of my depth.  I think i've downloaded it but it doesn't have as many files in the directoy as cgminer does making me think i've missed something, even though the program opens at least. Also did the .cl files just get copied into the sgminer directory?

finding this very helpful if a little over whelming for such a newbie!

Has anyone used sgminer and can help me understand it?

I keep reading something about building it and my non programming mind gets scared lol  Is it really worth apparently hours of work or does someone know where i can download a 'built' version?

Yeah man, you're better off editing your own BIOS than taking a risk using one that won't work with your card.  Don't try flashing a different bios unless you are familiar doing all of this because it might screw up your card and then have to take many extra steps to get it working again.

Just follow the cryptobadger post to a T when editing your own BIOS, it's easy as cake.

The thing about Trixx is you have to reapply everything everytime you reboot.  Afterburner doesn't change the voltage on the new cards, at least the last version I tried.  cgminer may or may not in windows, but the values are usually off, it won't control voltage in linux.  sgminer miner though, you might have the best luck with for controlling voltage in the prog.

Ive been following the cryptobadger guide, but when i got to look at my card for the BIOS switch its not a switch so much as a logo button. According to the sapphire page, its has a legacy bios and a UEFI bios, so would i b overwriting one of those?  it looks like this

http://prntscr.com/2subd6

I've never changed a BIOS like this before, some settings on a motherboard on pc load up sure, but not this.  I've got the changed .rom files on my MSDOS usb drive ready, I just didn't want to screw it up.  I've also played around with the settings a bit and still can't get my cards to not go over 80C

http://prntscr.com/2sudkz

R -> L card 1 is usually ok temp wise cards 2 and 3 are obviously too close. and always go over 85C what ever the settings I've used so far.

As for hash speed best I've seen was around 650 per card, lowering the VDDC via trixx to 1100 didnt' make a difference and the more  i look at cgminer settings the more suggestions i see :S so not sure where i'm going now. A guide i read said it could get annoying and frustrating... no kidding!!

I would preserve the uefi bios and flash over the non uefi one.  Make sure to save the current one before flashing though of course.  Yeah those bottom two cards are going to overheat no matter what voltage you use.  You can turn down the intensity for now.  Try -I 12 or even -I 11 if you need to.  Or you can pull one card out and run two at full intensity and wait for a riser cable for the other card.  For the hashrate, try the settings I mentioned in the other post to get 740s.  remove -v 1 from cgminer and change tc to 11200 and use 1050/1500, etc.

so lowering the intensity might help me if i leave the cards as they are?  I've been thinking about a riser, just need to work out how to actually raise that middle card out of the case. The -v 1 was long gone from cgminer settings, though it didn't make a difference.

Also while reading Shilt's thread on BIOS I saw some stuff on the memory type and that mine has AFR at the end of the memory name rather than MFR ( i don't pretend to know what this means) so I don't have the optomissed BIOS.  Or am  I looking at changing too much?  The BIOS file I found in that thread was a .bin file not a .rom file so I assume I can't stick the .bin file on my MSDOS stick and flash that in.. or can I (note i'm talking about doing more than change the VDDC like cryptobadger did here)

Anyone used sgminer?  I found a couple of threads on Reddit that suggest it can give you an extra 10-20 hash per card

Has anyone flashed the BIOS on a Sapphire R9 280X DUAL-X card?  According to the cryptobadger guide there should be a switch, that if I can't locate I shouldn't proceed, and as far as I can tell  Sapphire have replaced it with a button with the Sapphire S on it which switches to UEFI or legacy BIOS settings, as below picture link shows, which doesn't seem to be the same thing.  Am I wrong?  Any reason I shouldn't try TRIXX to reduce the VDDC?

You should ask 'The Stilt' for a little help, he''l modify your bios for you and hand it right back to you..

well the first one crashed the computer.. 1080/1500 was getting me 680-690 hash rates.... need that under volting i think... any suggestions on inciments to change the gpu/memory clock speed by to tweek it. and do i go up or down in number?

Try;

--lookup-gap 2 -I 13 --thread-concurrency 11200 -g 2 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --gpu-fan 90

go in the cgminer folder and delete the scrypt-tahiti.bin files first and whenever you change thread concurrency.

I remove the vector tag as it slows me down "-v 1".

Undervolt in the VBE7 with 1100 to 1110 and remove "powertune -20" from the cgminer bat file and just leave it at default which is 0.  Also make sure overdrive is turned off in catalyst control center.

Open a terminal window and type;

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

I get 740's+ with this setting and my cards run in the 60's in open air rigs.  1080/1500 will get you 765+ but you'll usually have to volt higher. Other sweet spots are 1020/1500, 1030/1500, and some people report success with thread concurrency 10240, or sometimes using --shaders 2048 instead of thread concurrency.  If you push the memory above 1600-1675 your system will start to crash and you'll have to overvolt the memory which you don't want to do.

Scrypt settings are voodoo.  One number in either direction can cause hashrate to drop significantly.  The trick is finding the magic numbers.

Using a pc case though will cause the cards to run pretty hot.

ok thats just my lousy typing. having rechecked it is in the bat file as -I 13 and -o stratum etc

i managed to get a partial screen shot in the brief momment it was up and it says

"cgminer: --thread: unrecognised option"

is this because i took the settings from the litecoin hardware comparison wiki?  If so what should it be?

lol.. ok found it

it has to be --thread-concurrency
the "-" is important Cheesy

well thats a step forward, cgminer doesn't close instantly... but it doesn't do anything either, just goes back to the initial screen as if i'd opened the application not via the .bat file

also put a space after w so its w 256

OK OK i'm impatient... give it a momment and it starts working so far

Have you created a worker on the pool?

If not, create one on the pool site.. and at -u and -p you place the worker username and password..

If you already done that try to run the .bat without any extra settings to see if it works at all..

OK so I got it working but my card temps were up to 85C... too hot no doubt. whats a good temperature for 100 load R9 280X cards?

Also how come the pool was showing only 1100-1300 ish kh/s but cgminer was showing 620 ish per worker..... I think I'll need to undervolt these cards now to help with the temperatures!

P.S.  this is all very helpful thanks!!!!

What is your card exactly? 65-80 C is acceptable...

You have to open your tower if its not.. and to set fans at manual speed 80-90%

All three are Sapphire R9 280X DUAL-X cards, currently stock settings.  I have them in Coolermaster HAF-XB case which currently has the top panel on (with a 200mm outtake fan)  but neither side panel on at this point. I was considering getting a box fan of some type and pointing it at the side the GPUs are sitting. or i could take the top panel off and find a way of pointing it downwards maybe.  unfortunately cards 2 and 3 are pretty close to each other which i'm sure doesn't help. I'm hoping undervolting the cards will bring the temps down a  fair bit right now

-I 13 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 -g 2 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1140 --gpu-memclock 1827 -v 1 --gpu-powertune -20 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --gpu-fan 90

try this... if its too hot, use this

-I 13 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 -g 2 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1080 --gpu-memclock 1500 -v 1 --gpu-powertune -20 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --gpu-fan 90

you should get 730-790 kh/s per card Wink

does this but need to be in it?  I don't see many mention it when talking about settings

timeout /t 30
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

I've got

cgminer --scrypt -13 -g 2 -w 256 -- thread concurrency 8192 -0 stratum+tcp://eu.pickaxe.cc:3330 -u ******* -p ******

I've rechecekd the username and password are correct

what have i done wrong?

OK I need a little help please.  I need a suggestion on best pool to join, I have 1 but just wanted some more input, and has anyone undervolted Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X cards that could give me some help

Thanks

I have a bunch undervolted.  Are you using VBE7 or software?

I have VBE7 version 7b and I was following cryptobadger's guide, but he reported using 1137 VDDC, but on the VBE7 I have its a drop menu and thats not an option so I wasn't sure where to go, undervolting and overclocking is a totally new thing to me, I also have Sapphires's TRIXX program downloaded to use

Basically I'm a bit cautious about just randomly changing things as I've never done it before. I was looking at undervolting purely from a power consumption point of view but should I actually get mining first and then change the voltage to see the difference?  I'm looking at pools right now to join and the work out how to get cgminer working (again totally new)

I knew building the rig was going to be the easy part!

total newbie thanks you for you help in advance

Yes very good.  VBE7 and cryptobadger's guide is the way to go for sure.  The regular software programs always aren't reliable for correct and consistent voltage adjustments.  For my Sapphire 280x OC's I used VBE7 and set both #5 and #6 options to 1100 for voltage, which ends up showing as 1.019 in the operating system.  The power saving is pretty good, but the heat and temp difference for the cards is significant.  If you let it run for a day without and then change it the next, you'll see.  Smiley  Mine are rock solid stable using 1100.  But you can always bump a bit higher if you feel like, or if you need to, say 1110.  The exact numbers don't matter as in "1137", etc, as long as it's close.  To maximize hashrate you can just change the clock settings while you're in there too.  Usually 1050 clock and 1500 memory I've found best for mine.  But some people use 1030/1500. 1080/1500 gets slighter higher hashes but usually requires more voltage.  Also memory voltage use 1500.

Also don't forget to flick the bios switch on the cards before flashing.

Glad to help, and welcome to DigiByte  Cool

Thanks  Any suggestions oh cgminer settings? again i've been following cryptobadger guidem, but his is for litecoin and has some bits in it that i don't see in on other posts.

"Enter the following text into your mine_litecoins.bat file (make sure to substitute your own pool user name and password—see note below):
timeout /t 30
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt -I 19 --thread-concurrency 21712 -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -u [USER] -p [PASS]"

I really don't understand cgminer yet.. any from scratch run thoughs would be really appreciated

Hello all

I've just finished building a rig and I'm looking for the best coin to mine. Come across Digibyte and so I though I'd give someone who knows more about altcoins than me ( namely everyone) a chance to tell me why I should pick this one?  Save me reading 271 pages of posts to find out where this coin is going and whats its prospects are please!
