Do people get some weird personal satisfaction from creating fud? This is not only strange behavior but just plain weird. If you don't like a coin simply don't invest. Everyone who has been in crypto for years knows half of all ipo's return 100-200% profit but obviously it's a gamble in EVERY coin (ipo, premine, or nothing). TLDR stop being pompous people.

PS: when a dev team does not profit from their own creation this is the first indication to run as there is no chance they will develop it for free. Just like i'm sure none of you work for free right?

You can profit in creating a coin without an IPO that will net you tens of thousands of dollars without producing something not very innovative.  Do you even know what the definition of fud is? Posting facts is not fud my friend.

ALL gpu miners will mine this. The difficulty is going to be amazing.

I hope so, and also to see the price overpass ico price for see what the haters will say

ha ha ha ha. guys you are so naive. I'm repeating myself but there are TONS of GPU mineable coins already, X11,X15,X-MILLION, HEFTY,GROESTL. Why would ALL gpu miners mine this shit, tell me one single reason.

I'll make popcorn and we can watch the trainwreck over the next 2 weeks. That's what I'm predicting anyways.  If there was a shade of innovation or something to look forward to I might change my tune, but it should be a fun watch.

SO you are the ones that prefer thinkg like vootcoin, where the dev made people dump their coins for nothing, for getting his pocket filled up, than give a try to a project.
Nice logic

Lol.  No.  I am not a fan of coins that bring nothing new to the table AND the dev puts a market price on his coin and will be looking at 60K USD in his pocket before mining even starts!  There is no reason for him to develop anything!  We are less than hour in at the IPO has raised 16.5 BTC, or $10K USD and for what?!  I am more a fan of coin that has to work at making a value with services and innovation and not a made up value that surely will not hold.  Good luck, but I will watch from the sidelines and be skeptical....and tell you I told you so in 2 weeks or so.

Navajo has 50 million in POW and 0.00002 price and this is only 6 million and 0.00008

they dont scale linearly with coin no. and established buy support means alot. and anyway that is being dumped at 2k.

this has nothing finished at all. just like cinni and all the others, except with a higher start price.

the question is , does it mean anything that its hosted at an exchange?

are any of the plans in progress, finished or even started?

The only upside to the exchange is you aren't sending a random address your BTC.  Other than that I think it has no bearing whatsoever on the coin.  Having a market for the coin before the PoW even starts isn't a good sign IMO, just reason for people to dump the coin at high prices.  We shall see what happens.

please tell me why everyone wants to buy this when theres 20% premine going straight to the devs and white a whitepaper that states:

Quote
As we said before, our philosophy is not to reveal the details of the future developments for Iceberg coin until they are tested and working. It would be so easy to promise several features, such as anon transactions, privacy, vo-ip,messages, lite blockchain, sidechain, but we are not going to do that.

does anyone even read this stuff? Why should I invent in something like that?

I have been saying that for pages now.

Especially in this post:

Thank you.  I see too many people compare coin IPO's to company stock IPO's before they go public.  There is a huge difference here.....a company going public already has a business, support.....A PRODUCT.  A coin has an algorithm and the dev's hopes and dreams of what his vision of the future of the coin.  It's awesome to generate hype and promise the world to investors, but too many people put blind faith and just throw their money away.  I would be willing to risk that ~<2% of all coins with an IPO have been beneficial to investors.....and it's usually the original ones that do, like NXT.

IcebergCoin on the surface is a 20% pre-mined IPO, asking 8000 satoshis per coin for those wishing to get in it.  The IPO looking to raise 100 BTC ($62,600 in the dev's pocket) before POW even starts.  The rest of the 5M coins will be mined within 7 days, and if the coin was to keep that 8000 satoshis per coin as value, after 12 days (5 days IPO, 7 days mining) this coin would have a market value of $313,000.  Quite the value for a coin with nothing ground breaking and it's future developments claim to be - Anon-feature (not original), VoIP feature (will it be better than a free service like Skype?), P2P feature , Black Blockchain, and Democracy Blockchain.  The Nist5 feature is beneficial....but PoW ends after 7 days, so how exactly is that VERY beneficial at all?

Those of you planning on buying into the IPO....can I ask you, what is the reason you think it's worth what the IPO price over established coins out there that are going for A LOT on exchanges?  Before you call me a "troll" or a "fudder", throw me a reason because I'm just generally curious.

I just dont know why would anyone put any order above 8000 satoshi, as this is the announced price Smiley

There will be 1.2M coins in the IPO, yet people are placing orders as high as 20% over IPO price.  There's not even a wallet.  Why are people so in a hurry to get coins to sit in their Bittrex account?  People just can't wait to give their money away!

Coin Information

Waccoin Gold is the only crypto currency in the market specially designed to maintain a stable price. Waccoin’s deflationary reward system allows the coin’s value to increase as each new coin is minted.

Our skilled developers spent many months doing competitive analysis on all crypto currencies that exist in the market, both from a technical perspective and also as to their use and came to the conclusion that one of the most consistent problems they have is that the people who developed this coin at the beginning enjoy a real advantage, this making the market more monopolized by the oldest companies.

Based on the competitive analysis and on the advice of the industry experts we designed and developed a coin that would be sustainable long-term and with a stable price.

* Block Reward Explained:

Waccoin’s Reward System is designed in a deflationary model. As the network’s difficulty increases so does the reward.

Vote, vote,  capcha , capcha. It's radicoulous.
As I sit at my desk at our national IT company, I think to myself, "How much trouble would I get in if my boss stepped into my cube and saw me putting together a picture of a bunny?" Maybe he'd feel sorry for me because it only has 3 pieces...  Roll Eyes

The real question is.....why isn't your boss also voting?? Cheesy  Get him on the Octo-Train!

After so big IPO i am not sure this coin will launch at all. If the total price is 400BTC this is close 260000$ Huh Good Luck guys Cheesy

400BTC is the TOTAL MARKET CAP of POW mined coins.

In the IPO the coin could reach up to 90BTC, but the dev said than even with 0.1BTC invested on the IPO the coin will launch and the un sold coins will be destroyed by Bittrex.

So, that why investing in the IPO is so atractive.

The unsold coins will be destroyed, so the TOTAL SUPPLY could be lower.  Grin

But only 20% of all coins are in the IPO.  Even if no coins were purchased and they were all destroyed, there would still be 80% of the original total.

And if they are all purchased that's 100 BTC pre-mine fund to the dev.  People freak out when a pre-mine is over 1% but are perfectly happy with a 20% pre-mined IPO.  Make sense? Not one bit.

it's hard for me to believe that all these people hyping this coin are not being paid. Cryptocurrencies are supposed to be based on trustlessness, and all this blind trust just seems so ironic.

Every coin....a shitty scam coin or good developed coins have more blind trust than any investment I have ever seen.  I don't understand it.

All I can say is that as far as I know you are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. I can not give more details.

Sure you can.  Let everyone in.  Clever puns don't entice me to buy.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MON | Monocle | Merge Mined on VTC Vertcoin - No Premine - Scrypt-N on: July 07, 2014, 07:10:11 PM
The thing is, on Simple Vert alone we have almost 4,000 workers mining a coin with an algo at isn't energy efficient and is tough on the hardware. The mining community for this coin is vibrant and very much active, yet the exchanges are seeing very little volume.

That can only mean one thing, everyone is holding because they consider that the coin is undervalued. I would be more concerned if the price was dipping and the volume rising! I would also be concerned if no one was mining.

Well it is good news that it is still being mined by a rather large group.  The problem is....the price is dipping.  It's price is less than 50% of what it was a week ago and 20% of what it was a month ago.  While not that many big dumps have happened, there is very little buy support which very well could be a problem considering how low the price has gotten.

I believe the only game available for OCTO is:

Octo-Chance: http://octo-chance.fedaykin.us:3000/

because the trust about this coin is made on Bittrex name , not an anon Dev..

now they start allowing scam Ipo coin, tomorrow they will just use the hack lost coin argument...

if iceberg not a scam, then Bittrexs should express why they are supporting it.

All Bittrex is doing is holding the IPO so people do not have to send their BTC to anon dev BTC address.  This way it assures that people will get the coins they paid for.  Now.....after the dev gets the BTC from the IPO, that's when the fun starts and will determine if this coin will float or be a scam.
how can devs control if price goes up or down?

They don't.  With an IPO it always runs the risk of being a scam.  People are paying a dev for future development in a large lump sum of BTC.  Let's say this IPO raises...50 BTC, and for whatever reason instead of putting that $32,500 into development of projects the dev just closes up shop.  Now you have a coin with no future and with no dev and you expect the price of the coin to stay the same?  It will get mined and dumped and the original investors get robbed.  It has happened literally 100's of times in the last 6 months alone.

Now I am not saying that will happen here.  The dev could have big plans and this coin could take off with support and IPO money.  But, that's why it's always a risk to buy into an IPO.

Finally someone who talks sense.. Why don't people invest once its listed in an exchange and trades stable for a few days.
Want big returns or just greed? This IPO in particular is a total rip off and people don't realize it.. Once the mining is over, all IPO investors are likely to loose their money.. This is happening for pretty much all IPO coins these days and I don't see how this one is going to be any different..

@Squidsin

While this change appears to be good for OctoCoin as there will not be coins like before that pay 8-14BTC for an instant top 5 spot, it will definitely start encouraging users to manipulate the votes in any way possible. I sure hope that Mintpal is at the top of their game and paying close attention to votes coming from a botnet.

How would you get a bot to solve a captcha though?  Actually, I guess it could be hacked.

Anyhow, the more pressing concern is that there will only be 9 coins taken between now and when voting stops for good.... and we are 12th.  Based on current observed voting patterns we should be able to take PolishCoin easily as it's pretty much static.  Probably GridCoin too.   That would leave is with one more place to make up, assuming of course that nothing comes up from below us.  But... the others around us are breaking away faster (EnergyCoin, Aiden, Kittehcoin, Stability Shares).

Kittehcoin being above Octo just makes me shake my head. It's a coin with 25 billion coins, down from 50 billion as it's re-launch, which will be worth nearly nothing if it gets added.  It's worth less than 1 satoshi on Cryptsy and has shown nothing innovative since it's launch in Feb.  How they have so many votes, I have no idea.  A coin with no future and a ton of coins being added over a quality coin with a future and great community would just be a tragic event IMO.

That being said, I just picked up another 4900 OCTO and voted on Mintpal.

agreed. there are so many bs alt coins out there. sad that you have to wade through all the bs to find decent ones.

I would hope that is one of the reasons they are doing away with the voting system.  I know after adding a few P&D coins on Poloniex, they say they take a look at the coins source code and community before adding anything now.  Hopefully MintPal will do that as well.  Community votes only tell you so much about a coin and it's future.  Hopefully after the "hubs" on OctoHub start to come out, MintPal will look and say wow....this looks big, let's add it.

That's why preulde/moolah added Octo in their 1.0 release I'm sure.  I guess they got fed up waiting for the features which is a shame.

Looking forward to the first hub release and the progress indicator.  Really appreciate that the devs are thorough and professional and want everything to be right but hoping you don't fall into the trap of wanting everything to be perfect and letting the scope creep to constantly add more features.  Otherwise, you'll never finish.  As a developer accursed with perfectionism I know this well.

I think you described the problems in the alt-coin world perfectly.  Everyone is in such a rush to release their coin and get it out to the public that coins start trading with absolutely nothing but a blockchain, wallet and big dreams.  Yesterday was OctoCoin's 4 month anniversary.  For most companies in the world, 4 months is nothing.  No one creates a business or product that has immediate effect in 4 months, and if they do, it would have been in development a heckeva lot longer than 4 months.

Create the coin, build the community, build trust in dev team, launch projects with community support.  It HAS to take time for alternate crypto-currency to gain adoption.

I have always said to frameLAlife that I feel like the tons of stupid alt coins, makes cryptocurrency lose its credibility from "would be investors", who may not know about cryptocurrency but are interested. If it is to be taken seriously you can't have things Pot, Sex, and Kittehcoin as options. While I have nothing against the first 2 coins as RL things to enjoy (I'm a dog person) its still hard to be taken seriously when frame and I want to talk to potential clients for our business and they see these as options. Anyway, my point is I agree and I apologize for the mini rant.

I wouldn't consider that a rant at all, but more about the actuality of the alt-coin world right now.  I hate to call a good portion of alt-coin investors stupid.....but it's the truth.  I have talked with bholzer a few times about the alarming scammy alt coins being pumped out everyday.  It takes BTC away naive investors looking to get rich quick and puts the money in the pockets of a scammy developer and takes away value from truly good coins.

Hopefully long standing coins with active devs and good communities, like this one, can ride out this period of fly by night scam coins and survive in the end.  I believe in the OCTO.
