I made a guide on how to make a secure bitcoin wallet using Ubuntu. Don't be scared if you don't have any experience with that. I cover every step from installation of Ubuntu to using your secured wallet.

I made a page on my site dedicated to creating a secure bitcoin wallet using a thumb drive. Even if you've never used Ubuntu before this tutorial will make it very easy for you. It includes detailed instructions on every step of installing Ubuntu and securing your wallet. Includes screenshots.

84  Other / Beginners & Help / Site with detailed instructions on how to make a secured wallet with Ubuntu on: June 22, 2011, 03:25:57 AM
Maybe I'm beating a dead horse but I think the page will be extremely useful for someone who wants to secure their wallet but doesn't have any experience with Ubuntu.

http://startbitcoin.com/how-to-create-a-secure-bitcoin-wallet/

It has detailed instructions for:
Downloading Ubuntu
Creating a bootable Thumb Drive
Booting Ubuntu from a thumb drive
Setting up your network once you are in Ubuntu
Getting the initial bitcoin config including wallet.dat
Showing hidden files in Ubuntu
Copying your wallet.dat file to a thumb drive
Using that wallet later

I have included screenshots for you visual learners.

I am always looking for and receptive to feedback. Anything helps.

I put a lot of work into it so if you find it makes life easier for you, please donate - 1HbdRpinMDQ2cgUWsKiMPDN2icC8rNpS1i

86  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Selling Adspace on Bitcoin Beginners Site - Accepting Bitcoin on: June 20, 2011, 09:07:45 PM
Hey all,

Just started this site a week ago and already getting 150-250 hits per day and they are actually staying on the page and following instructions. So they are engaged users. Looking for someone who wants to advertise on the site. I am not sure if I want to do ppc or just work on a monthly basis. I am considering all offers.

I will also consider any other forms of revenue I can make from the site.

And obviously, I will be accepting bitcoin as payment.

Feel free to send me a PM with any offers or reply with any questions.

87  Bitcoin / Mining support / For Basic Miners only - also looking for feedback on: June 20, 2011, 04:17:48 AM
I put a site together for brand new miners using windows that want to use a miner with a graphic interface. Easiest way to get started for a new miner. Currently sending people to slush's pool.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I put something together as well. I'm hoping to expand on the knowledge but it walks you through getting a wallet, getting into slush's pool and using guiminer. http://startbitcoin.com

Have you tried GUIminer?
93  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how do i post in other sections? on: June 17, 2011, 02:28:05 AM
This board would have been a garbage pit if you had a bunch of people were posting garbage all day.
94  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Idea: Secure wallet on USB MP3 players on: June 17, 2011, 01:16:45 AM
If you are going to do something like this, make sure it looks like a cheap one. Last thing you need is someone stealing a couple hundred bitcoins for a $100 mp3 player they will format anyway.
95  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The 1 thing we NEED to do in order to make Bitcoin more popular on: June 17, 2011, 01:14:43 AM
I think it will be niche forever. But, if you think of bitcoin as a offshore banking account without all the hassles, big business may jump in to hide funds as well as the more seedy element. I think it will be going places for sure. The best part it, the people that will be wanting to use bitcoins will not be the type of people mining them. That's where I see the value in bitcoins. Think of all the congressman that would love something like this to hide their indiscretions. Also, if you got a laugh out of this, send me some bitcoins lol

96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Long load times. on: June 17, 2011, 01:09:37 AM
Maybe the forum should start a pool that has a 2% take to fund the hosting on a dedicated server...
97  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there ever a possibility of a difficult decrease? on: June 16, 2011, 11:21:25 PM
I would think the only way that will happen is if bitcoin gets some bad press and the value drops to a point where they are worth less then the electric cost to mine. Or maybe people sell their mining rigs after a crash and that lowers the amount of miners. So far the value has been increasing along with the difficulty. It would have to break that trend to lower the difficulty a reasonable amount.
98  Other / Beginners & Help / Should I consider using mybitcoin? on: June 16, 2011, 11:02:10 PM
I am looking at different wallet choices and want to know if this is reliable?
99  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PCI-e cards: must they be in a 16x slot? on: June 16, 2011, 12:46:56 PM
I've read that mining doesn't require the high PCI-e speed. I is more reliant on the gpu itself. You shouldn't lose much, if anything, because you are using a lower speed slot. Good Luck!
100  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need feedback/fact check on new bitcoin site on: June 16, 2011, 12:42:46 PM
I like it. I will be putting together a links page in the near future. Hopefully this can be mutually beneficial. I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones that are trying to help beginners. Unfortunately, getting a high spot on google will not be an easy task this late in the game.

Also, be careful flashing your wallet ID and your balance like that. I would hate to see you get targeted and lose your hard earned BTC.
