81  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Any tutorial on how to prune bitcoind? on: July 08, 2016, 02:31:01 PM
Just to clarify, to what does the pruning command prune to? Will it basically start syncing from the time you start it up, 500 blocks back, 5 blocks back? Or until all confirmed txs have 1 condo or something?

Here you go.

https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.11.0

Near the beginning is the part where pruning is discussed.
82  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are you losing money because trollbox? on: July 08, 2016, 02:23:26 PM
Every person chatting on a trollbox is trying to earn the greatest profit that they are able to, no exceptions. No one is in there to make another person rich, and to think that anyone is in there for such an altruistic reason is an asinine way of thinking. You can chat with other people there socially and ask them for technical support, but if you do any trading based on information given there without verifying it with your own research, then you deserve any financial losses that you incur as a result. Trading is not just a game of numbers. It's like poker -- what you have in your hand doesn't matter if you let the person in front of you do your thinking for you.

As for the direct question on the OP, no. I ignore any nonsense on the trollbox unless I'm asking for technical support or clarification of some kind.
83  Other / Meta / Re: Help with account access Please on: July 07, 2016, 07:48:38 PM
Actually, you can't use that new account outside the Meta subforum. Sidestepping a legitimate ban by using a different account (i.e., ban evading) is not allowed and is itself a bannable offense.

As for your original account, I suggest just waiting until you get an answer from the staff. From what I've seen from your most recent posts, I am unable to definitively guess why you were banned. You don't seem to be part of a signature campaign, and your posts appear to be restrained to their respective topic-specific threads. Just wait it out in the Meta subforum for now.
84  Other / Meta / Re: why i am banned ? on: July 07, 2016, 09:46:55 AM
okay i agree i copy pasted 1-2 posts...but some users who scam people here may be not return loan from a person or not pay for a service only get a negative trust and allowed in a forum and a newbie like me who made some mistake didnt even warned a single time and suddenly a ban....atleast moderators have given me a negative trust and given me a warning...but nothing just banned..
i accept i copy pasted 2-3 posts but that is my mistake but also i was making other posts which were not spammy..i think i should have been given a second chance...

You are not entitled to a "warning" or "a second chance", and we are not obligated to coddle you either. We are not your parents, and you are not a child. It should have been common sense to you that copy-pasting another member's post in order to pad your post count would not be allowed. It's ridiculous that you're even citing other people's misdeeds as a reason to be excused for doing something that is not tolerated on this board.
85  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any tips to qualify for signature campaigns in less time on: July 06, 2016, 11:32:25 PM
Buying a forum account is not a good practice in any manner whatsoever. Signature campaigns pay members to advertise for them based on the trust and influence that they have upon the community accrued through their experience (numerically rated through "Activity") and positive social interactions with other members of the community. If you are using an account that is not originally and essentially yours, then you are using an identity that someone else has fostered, and are therefore defrauding a signature campaign by not giving them what they are paying for (which is essentially trustworthiness).

Signature campaigns are meant to supplement your earning capabilities while being a productive and trustworthy member of the community. It is supposed to be a "plus" for being a good member of the community, not the reason why you are here.

If you are talking about someone doing a chargeback on a Bitcoin sale, then you're out of luck.

87  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ARE NEWBIES CONSIDERED AS FOOLS? on: July 06, 2016, 09:06:17 PM
For a long time on this forum, I see people demonizing newbies for anything. From What I see, a new is considered as someone who doesn't 'know anything and is not supposed to say anything. Whatever you do, you will be told that "you are newbie". I ask myself, does it mean that newbies don't have a voice?

I realized some people build up their accounts and sell them when they are on a higher rank. They then start another account of which they will definitely start as a newbie. Can this person also be considered "worthless"?

You might want to cite some valid examples regarding your statement. Most of the instances where newbies get bashed are instances where they ask for loans without collateral, act like an obvious shill, attempt to pull glaring scams, ask about things that a 2-second google search can answer or make irresponsible comments about things that they clearly know nothing about. Aside from those instances, newbies are only ever looked down upon when they act as if being a newbie is an excuse to do things that clearly require some modicum of trust as leverage. Despite having subforums for lending and business transactions, this discussion board is primarily and specifically one for the discussion of Bitcoin and various other aspects related to it (such as educating new users, spreading and promoting its use, etc.). This is not a lending website where a newbie can just waltz in and say "I need a loan. It doesn't matter that I'm a newbie since there's always a first time for everything."

And yes, someone who sells their account to another can definitely be regarded as, as per your words, "worthless". There is never a good reason for a person to buy an already established forum account. Anyone who is selling an account is someone who is aware of that fact yet obviously doesn't care.
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Enjoy bitcoin while supply lasts on: July 04, 2016, 09:18:37 PM
Bitcoin has a limited supply and the users are constantly growing by numbers. The dwindling supply of bitcoins versus the increasing demands of consumers will lead to the shortage of supply and may lead to the total failure of bitcoin in the future. It is possible that it my happen so enjoy your bitcoins today since it may not be there tomorrow.

That concern was addressed by Satoshi Nakamoto even before he/she/they launched Bitcoin. You are similar to a first grader who is trying to tell his sister how to solve a college calculus problem because he just learned how to add two-digit numbers that day.

What is the maximum coin age for stake weight? Is it capped at 1 day (which is also the minimum coin age for staking)? According to the "Staking" icon on the lower right corner of the Qt client, my stake weight has been locked at its minimum stake weight for days now. I apologize if it has been stated or asked by someone else before, but I have been unable to find the answer on my own from this thread and the previous one.

(Note: I know how staking works. I feel like I have to say it immediately so that I don't get irrelevant replies.)

Hello Relnarien,

Yes, your understanding is basically correct, and it was also asked by someone else before. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1028941.msg14712975#msg14712975

In short, there's been no coin ageing since block height 2.1m.

And you could say it's capped at 1 day.

Based on what you've written, I have no doubt you should know how staking works. Smiley

P.S. Will put it into our FAQ, so that new users won't need to search around again.

Peter

I see. Thank you. Not knowing was really bugging me for a bit. I suppose I could have checked the source, but I'm not really familiar with which variable references which value, and it seemed like a waste of effort to go through the whole source just looking for a single value. I'm a little embarrassed that the answer was posted only 2 pages prior though. I was mostly searching through the earlier pages. =/

Also, I only added that little note at the end of my previous post because my question was the type that tended to invite irrelevant replies like "staking resets the stake weight to 0" or "staking requires a minimum coin age". I didn't mean to sound condescending. Tongue
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ANIME [Tip and be tipped with AnimeYen] アニメ円 on: July 02, 2016, 08:26:35 AM
Is this a rebranding of Animecoin (ANI) or is it an entirely different coin? I've seen the same promotional images on the ANI thread, so I'm more than a little confused.

92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Expanse (EXP) - Fair Launch, No ICO, Community DAO, based on Ethereum on: June 22, 2016, 04:49:24 PM
at this time mining EXP is NOT profitabily.... diff 2153 and 1 exp = 0.25$ ...
I do not understand why so many people continue to spend electricity... Undecided

If miners stopped mining a coin simply because of its current difficulty, then no new blocks would be found, effectively stalling the blockchain and killing the coin. I have to say, I'm a little concerned that someone who doesn't understand one of the basic concepts of cryptocurrency actually has a Sr. Member account.
93  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NEED HELP TO PROMOTE MY BITCOIN INFO SITE!! on: October 27, 2014, 02:04:36 AM
You might want to change your website's name to something else. I don't know if that is an acronym but it gives the impression of spam more than anything. Also, unless your website contains information that the other hundred Bitcoin information websites do not have, then there's really no point to making a new one unless you're just in it for the pennies a month that most small websites earn from the ads.
94  Economy / Lending / Re: Want borrow 5 btc! on: October 09, 2014, 03:07:45 AM
Shouldn't the amount of troll/fraud threads that the OP has started qualify him/her for a spam-based ban by now? He/She is essentially posting the same threads over and over again.
95  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: September 19, 2014, 02:47:35 AM
Funnily enough, Satoshi Nakamoto could be a syllabary anagram for Tomoka Nashitosa, which would mean that the first Bitcoin user was a girl. Add that to your conspiracy theories.

Back on topic, there are girls here. Lots of them, for sure. It just happens that they don't consider it relevant to broadcast that information to random online strangers 99% of the time. I don't think it's much of an issue that the OP claimed to be a girl though. It was relevant to the topic, as far as I can tell. I personally don't care either way.

If you think about it though, after fair warning has been rendered, if someone still willingly chooses to ignore common sense just because he/she is dealing with a "girl," then who are we to argue against Darwinian wisdom? Thinking before acting helps not just yourself but the whole community.
96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain spam on: September 16, 2014, 04:32:27 AM
There is no way to do that. The protocol is currently not equipped to reject legitimate transactions (malicious as the intent may be) to valid addresses. For now, you can try to minimize the effect of dust spam on your input list by using a new address per transaction.
97  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost .2164 btc learn from my mistake on: September 06, 2014, 02:06:04 AM
So basically I want newbies to learn from my poor mistake.

I made a mistake doing business with someone here, had given a wrong btc address. Why wrong? Naturally we all assume the btc address that someone provides is their wallet address and care to say wont do the search. Which this part is my mistake as well.

The actual transaction amount was 0.02164 - so this is another mistake for not double checking your "0"s.

Outside from the point the btc can sent back, if it was in their balance. So then I naturally assumed it was their btc address. The double screwed up part is when they provided a gambling btc address instead. Regardless if I sent the right amount, they would of never received it.

Overall summary:
1. Always check the zeros in sending btc amounts (triple check)
2. Check the btc address prior sending any btc is not a gambling address

Edit - since I got a lot of response based on this - just to clarify it wasnt for nothing - I sold a spare btctalk account to "Candystripes ". He sent me the wrong amount and I said I would send it back. Then provided me with a btc gambling address, which I sent.

The only mistake from what you mentioned was your incorrect typing of the amount. The fact that you sent it to a gambling address is irrelevant. Sending it to a gambling address means that the amount is now in a gambling account that the recipient has access to, which means that he/she still has access to your money. The address is just an address. And even if the recipient gave you a wrong address, then that has nothing to do you with you. You did your part. If the recipient is expected to return the excess amount to you and he/she is claiming that he/she does not have access to the money, then he/she is lying. Unless he/she asked a random person for a deposit address to a gambling site, which is too idiotic to be true, then he/she has access to that money and just wants to keep all of it.
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help with the Economics of a New Gaming Cryptocurrency on: August 24, 2014, 07:24:55 AM
Allow me get the "not the best idea" discussion out of the way first:

(You can skip over this part if you want. It's still a noteworthy discussion either way.)

By branding a cryptocurrency as the official "currency" of your company, you are unintentionally causing other entities to not provide professional merchant support -- i.e., merchant support from other legally established entities -- to it. Whether we like it or not, most people come to the mistaken conclusion that a cryptocurrency can and should only be used by one company if that cryptocurrency's branding is intrinsically tied to that company. Take GPUcoin, for example. It could have been used for other things, but its supporters immediately rejected it once the company associated with it started to fail. What this means is that your company will have to provide unique merchant support to your cryptocurrency because it is extremely possible that, aside from people trading it for Bitcoins or other coins, your company will bear all the financial burden of supporting the growth of your coin.

There is also the issue of price manipulation. Since cryptocurrencies are, by definition, decentralized, then your cryptocurrency will surely experience extreme swings in its spending value. While it's true that you can peg the actual value of your coin to the the service that you offer as a merchant, you cannot stop people from trying to force you to adopt the value of the coin as pegged to fiat. Sooner or later, you will have to decide if you will set the price of your services based on the fiat trade rate of your coin or risk having the value of your coin dumped due to a conceived disproportion between the price of the coin and the price of your service.

Having said that, let's move on to your question.

In my opinion, a reasonable distribution scheme for a cryptocurrency with such a purpose is a 70/30 split rate between the miners and your company during the first week of its launch. Ideally, your website should be at least 80% functional and have been operating for at least 2 weeks beforehand. A 45-second target with an 8-transaction confirmation period should be fast enough for most transactions that involves online games. A 60-transaction dormancy period for newly mined coins should be good enough to secure your website from transactions made by amateurish malicious miners. The block rewards and halving rate don't really matter. You would want to adjust the block rewards manually relative to how much your services cost, while halving only makes a difference if you intend to keep generating coins beyond what you can provide merchant support for. You don't want to generate new coins past the first 6 months because it will keep your old coins from circulating, causing you to not make any profit (other than your own coin, which only you provide merchant support for). That poses the problem of how to keep the blockchain running though.
99  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can I help with Bitcoin development? on: August 23, 2014, 03:32:04 AM
The first thing that you need to do is to get yourself acquainted with the source code. Pick it apart and learn how it works. Once you have familiarized yourself well enough with the code, then you would be more adequately equipped to find any existing vulnerabilities in it and offer a lasting and secure solution. Simply pointing you to random bits and pieces of the code does not help anyone.
100  Other / Meta / Re: Account Hacked Help Plz! on: August 16, 2014, 09:59:20 AM
I have done some digging around looking for something that could link Zedicus to his account. I have done some business with him in the past, as he participated in a group buy I did a while back. Here is a link to all of the transactions in the group buy which were done about a year ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268280.msg2869200#msg2869200

Zedicus' transactions include the following Bitcoin transaction IDs:

Code:
Zedicus; 14 BTC; 4bdb9f02a7a2c4fff8abb6466a1cc0789fc7304f16a3c66ec8dc6040a4caaaeb
Zedicus (refund); 11.82290364 BTC; 42141a90d189ac21ea79a1f70a4da94e90c12fc35f3f216a50c25a2727a606d4
Zedicus (refund); 2.17719636 BTC; 25541429053fc8c34e15a631001acfe3785dc6f4a8398a0895a126428e461ba1

All transactions done with him involved the Bitcoin address: 1Mc6bbZKwthrCWgtwa7yGsADKAqoNNza5L

Assuming the real Zedicus still has control of this Bitcoin address, we could have him sign a message proving he owns the private key for that address.

Hope this helps!

Hey CH!

Hell yeah i have control of that account!!! I have control of both that and the other account that was in my sig too...  Smiley

I also sent you more proof via pm a second ago   ...!!!
( ill post in that forum )
EDIT: i just posted a msg in your profile page on that secret forum we used just for that group buy!!

No matter what happens thanks alot for trying to help CH, you are a gem!!

@ Shogen: Thanks for posting that bit of info ..

@ Light : Wow you hit it right on the nail!!! I think this was my last post before the account got hacked: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577437.msg7798338#msg779833

I took a look at the account's post history and your claim is looking to be more credible by the moment. As anyone can check, the original owner of the account was quite sporadic in posting. Then suddenly, August 14 comes and the account suddenly makes close to 80 posts in just a couple of days. The speed at which the posts are made is clearly due to the PD advertising found in the signature. If bayuo is indeed telling the truth, then someone prolly hacked the account in order to sell the account to a fool or to participate in a signature campaign himself/herself. I would recommend contacting Stunna about this matter as well, since payday is on the 17th. If bayuo can prove his/her claim, then we can stop any payments to the hacker. If not, then we can all vouch for zedicus in the future.
