81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: April 10, 2014, 03:34:31 PM
Bitcoin falls. Of course not panic (because almost no Bitcoins i have).  But still not a good feeling

No it's not, but once the market moves past the China issue, the crypto world in general will be healthier. Part of the problem is that it has been lingering in the background and causing somewhat of a problem, but no real clarity other than rumors.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: April 10, 2014, 02:45:41 PM
Guys I am trying to get started on EMC2.

What is the best pool around..?

It depends on your rig. The P2P are good if you have a decent rig.
Otherwise just find an active pool and hop on.
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: April 10, 2014, 02:38:39 PM
For those concerned with OpenSSL. Don't worry about your EMC2 coins.
1. From what we are being told by our dev, the TLS functions for public operations that is an active part of bitcoin, is not an active part of EMC2. This is where the bugs risk lie. The bug is with a very specific function not being used by EMC2. Unlike KGW issue which presented a major risk, the risk for us on this is minimal.
2. However, just to be on the safe side our developer said he will put in the bug fix with the rebuild of the wallets he is working on which should be out soon.

We don't want people to go into a panic about this issue, the function in question is not being used by our coin, and our developer is actively working on the coin here as evidence of the hard fork to address the KGW issue. In some ways for some scrypt coins this is a PR move. It's not an active function in their coin. We do have an active developer, who is on top of the major risks and addresses them immediately.

Hopefully this helps those who were concerned about this issue.

It seems the issues in China have been holding down the market more than anything. The reality is this bug is something easily fixed, and does not effect as many coins as people think. It is also something easily resolved, software bugs such as this are an active part of development.
However, the issues around China have nothing to do with this development churn, and ultimately they are something out of our control that our developer cannot analyze, impliment, test, and fix. It is a political issue in a country our developer does not even live in. If there was a bug fix around cryptos in China, we would impliment it immediately. Sadly, it has to do with people and power.

EMC2 coming to atomic-trade.com soon!

If true this would oddly be the most appropriate exchange for us.

A scientist explaining funding options for pre-grant projects, Doge and BTC are mentioned!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hw2mHEMUfkI#t=0

Thanks for the heads up! We try to get in contact with him ASAP to let him know the benefits of EMC for SCIENCE.

I tried to reach out to him. He is difficult to reach. Also the alternative funding ecosystem with cryptocurrencies is VERY new. Only Unidan and Walter Moss (the person we funded) have achieved project funding through cryptocurrency. In some ways they are still evaluating what to think about this. Even crowdfunding is a relatively new concept. The scientific community is still relatively new to this.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I think the shitcoin flood is ending ... on: April 09, 2014, 06:48:31 AM
Maybe if bitcoin falls further in value there will be less and less shit coins released. I heard that before bitcoin zoomed up in value there were very few alts, perhaps because people thought there would be no money in them. By last christmas people were talking about bitcoin hitting $1 million, and the dollar signs obviously lit up in plenty of unscrupulous devs eyes.

I think it was far harder to make an alt back then as well.

As ArsTechnica pointed out in their altcoin experiment, it only takes a couple hours and $200 to launch your own alt from start to finish with no programming required.

Launch is one thing, support is another. That is a key difference. Do you have developers who will work through the weekend to fix a key security exploit? Support for a coin is how it lives or dies in reality. Then there is community and marketing. Whether or not people are in it for a quick buck, or something longer term.
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | UPDATE WALLET!!! | FORKING NOW! on: April 09, 2014, 06:31:59 AM
So a little bit of investigation. It seems we went to digishield right in time.  Grin

So some information.
1. Our major exchanges, mintpal and poloniex updated. So if you have coins there you are in good shape.
2. A couple of our pools were on the wrong fork, that should be corrected soon. Poolprefecture being the other one, and they were notified. The three largest were on the correct fork, as were many others.

As always just to be safe, if you are solo mining (or mining in general), make sure you are on the right fork.

So bravo EMC2 dev team. This is what actual development support looks like folks, and the real world consequences.

88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | UPDATE WALLET!!! | FORKING NOW! on: April 09, 2014, 05:07:54 AM
By the way, major credit to saveoursouls on reddit for identifying the pool on the wrong fork.

Right now i am seriously wondering why people are still mining to the wrong fork, and likewise how many coins are lost as a result.
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | UPDATE WALLET!!! | FORKING NOW! on: April 09, 2014, 02:56:15 AM
EDIT
The coin market cap issue is resolved, but alt. explorer is still on the wrong fork, as are some pools. Bravo to coin market cap, extremely responsive when I alerted them of the problem. Alt. explorer was the one on the wrong fork.

Okay it seems some are on the wrong fork, and they have not updated with the hard fork. This includes one of our pools. DO NOT USE BOTPOOL!!!!!! You will lose coins. Somebody notify them IMMEDIATELY.
Confirmed! Lifeforce is on the correct fork. This seems to be a problem with a select few pools/individuals who have not correctly updated their wallets, etc. with the hard fork. Including a few blockchain trackers.

Our block chain explorer has the right information

If your difficulty is not in the twenties or thirties, you are on the wrong fork. Change pools immediately.

This is why we say updating your wallet is important!

When the next vote begins ?
5 days before the end of the epoch.
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | UPDATE WALLET!!! | FORKING NOW! on: April 09, 2014, 12:16:25 AM
Pretty much every developer in the world is aware of this situation, I am sure our devs are looking into it.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I think the shitcoin flood is ending ... on: April 08, 2014, 08:41:09 PM
Many of these died (or are dying) with Cryptorush Cryptoflush going down.  The toilet is out of order.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | UPDATE WALLET!!! | FORKING NOW! on: April 08, 2014, 07:08:14 PM
So why did this coin have a huge spike today? it looks like its still trending to hit huge numbers? Is it because of the client update or did it epoch to the next level?

^^^??

The price spiked for the same reason any crypto spikes when there's a news story and attention drawn to it. Pumpers know that if they pump a coin immediately after it has some attention (the press release) it will make people think the coin is going "to the moon" and they'd better hitch a ride. Drives the price up and then the pumpers dump it, leaving those new to the game holding the bag...basically, they've just taken half of your money from you. Happens with every coin. Beware of rapid price escalations, because they are most likely pumps and will inevitably result in a dump...so don't buy on the way up.

True....however the price is low on this moment, in my humble opinion.

Prices go up and down. We cannot control that.
With that being said, it is nice to see the floor 200-300 satoshi more then it was a week ago. The nice thing about the rallies we have had is usually it finds a higher floor when it does come back down a little.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Creator (Charlie Lee) Recommends Merged Mining with Dogecoin on: April 08, 2014, 05:17:17 PM
Merged mining is not a bad thing. I don't know why there is a panic over it, it makes complete sense and there are already mining pools that do it with dogecoin. They just fly under the radar.
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: April 06, 2014, 08:24:15 PM
The benefit of this coin is clear and obvious, and with every price rise the value to humanity grows, multiplying with it the incoming PR and media exposure. Maybe this is a bit futurist, but EMC2 has an AMAZING adoption path:

When EMC2 was .0025/USD, I heard the donation to science was about $1,000.

Let's say EMC2 climbs to 2.5 cents, the donation would be ~$10,000, correct? Pretty impressive...

Okay, by then a lot of people know EMC2 is pretty fucking awesome. Let's say now it hits 25 cents. That's $100,000 donations.

$100,000 donations will bring quite a bit of media exposure. Let's say it causes the price to eventually climb to $1.00. That's $400,000 donations.

^ Anywhere near that level would bring more positive PR than the crypto world has ever seen.

EMC2 would really be rolling now and starting to change the world. Massive PR spikes the price to LTC level, $15. Suddenly EMC2 is making SIX MILLION DOLLAR donations...!

Six million dollars to science every month. Clear and appreciable benefits to the world. Media frenzy. This is where EMC2 overtakes Bitcoin. $500 price, TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR donations.

After that, EMC2 funds space travel to a level never before seen. It causes a massive acceleration of technology. In 20 years we're living in Star Trek. EMC2 is now the dominant currency of the human race.

^^ Very rough maths, and I didn't take into account halvings or other factors I haven't thought of. But I just wanted to illustrate how the positive effects of this coin will scale with adoption, pushing more adoption. Cool

FOR SCIENCE!

An increases in price without question benefit future award winners, including the next award winner during Epoch 2. With that being said, we cannot control the market. Just the donation that goes out based on the market price at the time we make it.

Also please nominate projects for the award.

http://einsteinium.org/submit-a-project/

Our donation is dictated by the present at the time we make it, but our ambitions lie in the potential future price.

To add one more thing, we are also looking for science advisers, if you have a Master's, Ph.D. or are a Ph.D. candidate in scientific discipline please contact christine@einsteinium.org .

Okay this is surprising.

Lifeforce is not close to 50%, but they followed the right procedure about turning off registrations when their hash is to high.
I agree it is now time to remove hashrapids warning.

The network is slowly, but surely growing.
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: April 04, 2014, 09:34:59 PM
I want you all to know we are considering a different algorithm internally. My vote is x11 so those that agree with me keep your fingers crossed.

Hi I was wondering if there was any news on this topic.

I Have not checked here over the pasts 10 days or so..

Been busy but still mining this great coin.

No decision at this time.
There is a critical fix that has to take priority with the KGW. Fix likely coming very soon.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: April 04, 2014, 04:30:31 PM
We need to hit popular science magasine/newspaper ! It will be skyrocket the price like blackcoin with his news on wallstreetjournal.

Lets start the wheel! hit popular newspapper = skyrocket the price = more found to research = more visibility = more higher price = profit + help science !

 Cheesy

This is essentially the virtuous cycle we wish to get started. Our press release is now in the wild, hopefully a few people pick it up.
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: April 04, 2014, 05:32:08 AM
You got my attention.
I like everything about this coin and will start mining it but could the dev give us an update on whats being done? Is the dev active?
How can we contribute other then buying, voting and mining?
Is there a plan?
Whats the next cause we can support?

If 50 million are already mined, at a rate of 380 sat, thats 190 BTC...where are these BTC? Bagholders?
If 2.5% is donated, that means the foundation only has 3.5 BTC to contribute to a cause...that is not much

These are just raw numbers off the top of my head, so I could be wrong in one or another

Anyway and as I said, I really like it would love to get involved

Cheers

Hey Architect,

It happy to see you finally came around. This coin is great, the community is great, the concept is great and we are poised to do great things in the name of science.

We have a very active dev team of about 8 members, located all around the world (UK, Romania, Canada, USA, Taiwan and Italy) working all day on our coin. Currently were working on a few wallet updates, one will be released very soon as well as a better looking blockchain explorer. There are other changes in the works but for now I cant mention any of them

As for supporting our coin, besides mining, buying and voting you can tell all your friends, create cool threads about us. Get more people interested and asking questions.

For supporting causes, the best way to do this now is to nominate your favorite project that you believe deserves our funding. This can be done here: http://einsteinium.org/submit-a-project/

The donation we made to our first winner Dr Watler Moss was for $1000 USD, while its not much it was half of his goal, for a coin of only 25 days old at the time I believe that's a great step in the right direction. We also ran a fundraiser where we raised over 300K EMC2 on top of the $1000 donation.

Bagholders... where are they indeed? I happen to know that the team members have bought a massive amount of coins. We all believe deeply in out motto "funding the future with the future of currency" and we are HODLing for the long run.

Hope this answered all your questions, If you have any more feel free to ask.

To add to what Bob said, there is the dev team, but there is also the marketing team, and the nonprofit foundation itself. There are also a few science advisers, which I have been recruiting.

We are also in the midst of developing a relationship with experiment.com, they like us.

I have to note, I am one of those bagholders myself. This is not a pump and dump with just one dev, there are a number of people involved in making things happen, not only for the coin and it's health, but also to meet the foundation mission.

Also for clarity, the amount we raised for Walter was $1550. $550 for the fundraiser we had. $1000 for the award.
