81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: America's oldest bank support bitcoin holding on: February 15, 2021, 03:27:14 PM
wow this is a very great news, i see plethora of good and great happenings happening to the crypto community lately, that has a smiling and cooling effect on me.

There is a principle of trend i propound it goes this way;
when a trend becomes trendy, it is already too late.

Every organisation that has good team knows that the next financial revolution is cryptocurrency. So, if they don't take advantage of first mover, they may be negatively affected.

Not going to lie, it excites me but I know for a fact that this old bank supporting the bitcoin is up to something. I don't know what it is but I know that they want to get in because they are planning something in the market. They are a welcome but we have to be cautious because this bankers operate not on the interest of the people but their interest and the people that protect them. This is still the same as hodling your bitcoin on an exchange and attacks can happen.

As Adams Smith wrote in his famous book "the wealth of nation" he stated as i paraphrase that the service of a butcher is not to the benevolence of the consumers, he does it for a selfish interest.

This is means that every business is operated to make profit. One of they ways they do this is through continuous innovation. You know a business that will continue to survive and win in the market must innovate ad infinitum.

82  Economy / Speculation / Btc Halving Effect + Elon Musk Effect + Institutional Investors' Effect. on: February 15, 2021, 03:15:23 PM
I have been reflecting on the combined outcome or the compounded outcome of the recent happenings in Bitcoin adoption.
Here is my reflective thought.

I have relearned that btc price increase will not only be caused by the four years periodic halving.

1.   The btc halving was a major cause of btc price increase because it reduces the number of btc supply by ˝ in every four years.

2.   The Adoption of institutional Investors: I have realized that btc will continue to rise and perform well as an asset due to the activities of these powerful financial entities. By extension, that means btc price will rise and the value will increase more frequently.

3.   The Elon Musk and Public Corporation Adoption: I feel this factor is higher in ordinal ranking than factor 2. With the investment of $1.5 bn by Tesla in btc and acceptance of btc as a means of payment for its product has led to the surge in the value of btc. By extension, other companies like mastercard, Amazon, Uber etc will follow such epic leadership.

Deductively, btc has a very powerful growth force supporting it. So, if one should predict that it will rise to $100k this year I am not surprised.

What do you think?
83  Economy / Economics / Re: Confirmed NGN banks blocking account, what could be the outcome on the economy? on: February 12, 2021, 02:09:00 PM
This is not a good news for our economy (Nigeria). I don't know why Nigeria always like to be the last to explore a beneficial technological trend such as the blockchain and the cryptocurrency.

I read in another Tweet on the 11th of February 2021 that the Senate has summon the governor of CBN, Godwin Amiefele, to answer some questions regarding the probable impact of cryptocurrencies to the economy and why the ban.

At a time like this when Kenya had provided regulatory guiedelines as regards crypto and express their support for it, Nigeria is still sleeping.

Hmm...
84  Economy / Economics / Re: Will New York become a Bitcoin hub on: February 12, 2021, 01:54:44 PM
While that is a very bold vision and a noble that will be supported by the young, here are the two reservation i do have;

1. The Minining of btc and other cryptocurrencies consume high rates of electricity. This does not support environmental sustainability and the fight against climate warming.

2. if he wins, he will become a political leader and not a business man. So, what i feel he should have said is that if he wins he would make policies that will promote btc and cryto businesses.

Well, it will be great he wins.

Yang became known for his crypto-friendly views during the US presidential race - which in fact only served to position him in public and allow him to become a serious candidate for NY mayor.  This is going very well for him so far, because according to recent research, he is currently the leading candidate - which means that he has done a very good job in the past year.

We all know that politicians like to promise a lot in order to gain power, and I can completely agree with what Meltem Demirors wrote in her tweet - "i don't see how any crypto company wants to operate in an environment with high income, corporate, and real estate taxes + sales tax on top", so it would be good for Yang to say what he thinks on the matter.

Right, and we all know that electricity is very expensive in New York so that is out of the equation.

Anything is possible, even mining BTC in NY, of course with a profit.

An upstate New York power plant has been using some of its own electricity to mine bitcoin on an industrial scale.
Greenidge Generation, a natural gas power plant near the town of Dresden in the Finger Lakes region, announced it had successfully installed a mining farm in its facility. Comprised of nearly 7,000 mining rigs and powered by electricity generated on-site, the facility can mine an average of 5.5 bitcoins (BTC) every day, roughly $50,000.

Politicians use promses durng electioneering campaigns as leverage to get to the position. Most times, power corrupts and absolute power corrupt absolutely. So, they may decides to change their mind once they get to power. You see what Donald trump became after he won the election to become the president of the United States of America.

Well, he may change his mind, who knows. what can people do when he does that?

85  Economy / Economics / Re: SWISS NATIONAL BANK is the first Central Bank to own Bitcoin (via TSLA and MSRT) on: February 12, 2021, 01:36:41 PM
Wow, this is one of the outstanding and amazing news of the week.

i use to think that CB use to keep their money in USD and gold reserves. Is this one an unconventional practice for SNB to have his reserves in equity of companies such as GameStop.

There is an Israeli professor of economics that wrote one time that Speculation or arbitrage is a form of entrepreneurship. Well, the goal of SNB is to make money, as such it has to be entrepreneur in strategy.

<...>
My theory is that central banks will just make their own coins, just like Amazon is now hiring developers to make them their own Amazon coin wtf... why don't just accept Bitcoin like Tesla did Smiley

as if the EUR or the USD weren’t digital enough.

What a line of good thinking that spur reflection. Come to think about it, fiat money has existed in digital format for a long time, when there is a need to print money, i feel what need to be done is to add digital numbers to the amount of money supply (MS). So, i see that there would be very slim difference between CBDC and the current currency. The only difference may be the technology supporting the two and what the people use it for.

86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kenya’s Central Bank Moves to Adopt Bitcoin on: February 11, 2021, 03:22:57 PM
Quote
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) revealed that it will be using Bitcoin to combat various economic crises threatening the country. This move has revealed a contrasting view that many other countries hold towards the digital asset.

Kenya’s apex bank announced its intentions to embrace Bitcoin as a haven from economic difficulties. The CBK stressed that systemic, fiscal, and monetary challenges are major factors that have hindered the country’s growth.

Bitcoin to the Rescue
Governor of the CBK, Patrick Njoroge, said that using the digital asset could help ease the country’s unstable currency. Njoroge elaborated that Kenya is currently vulnerable due to a shortage of foreign currencies and exorbitant loans, which he believes cryptocurrencies can salvage.

“Our decision to shift to Bitcoin is both tactical and logical. Our currency has always been the punching bag for the International Monetary Fund which always claims that the Kenya shilling is overvalued,” Njoroge explained.

https://beincrypto.com/kenyas-central-bank-moves-adopt-bitcoin/

One thing i love about Kenya is that it provides an enabling environment for her entrepreneurs to thrive. I wish Ngeria follow this leadership of Kenya and their school thought regarding Cryptocurrencies.

I know that the IMF always ask developing economies to devalue their currencies as a requirement for IMF loan. I feel with crypto business activities, there would be more flow of digital hard currencies such as btc.
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: Owning One BTC In 2035 Will Make You A Millionaire on: February 11, 2021, 03:18:10 PM

If you're a relative newcomer or you have blown your stash thinking you have years to faff around and accumulate my advice is do whatever you can to accumulate 1 Bitcoin before it reaches 100k. Once that's reached and its on it's way to 200k it's going to become very difficult to accumulate for regular folks. If you can jumpstart your entry by borrowing 10k, 20k or 30k from the banksters do it - Have no fear! Buy $20 chunks as often as you can, pay no heed to the price. Ditch your daily $5 Coffee - that's $150 of Bitcoin per month, stop the pizza delivery, buy $15 of BTC instead. A few small changes in lifestyle and you will be surprised how much you're accumulating. During the journey you may want to punt a portion of your BTC on an Alt you believe will rise greatly - be careful though and do not panic if your alt crashes because 99% of the time they will recover to the price you bought in at.
The prime directive is to increase the amount of BTC you own, nothing else matters

Wow, that is absolutely a great financial advise. I did a course lately on personal finance,  was told that i need to save to invest in order to be able to meet my short and long term goals. That is also in line with The book The richest man in babylon.

Connecting these two sources to your thread, what one needs to cultivate a habit of investment is discipline. It takes discipline to save and invest, but it take indiscipline to squander the money. Thanks
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we get another golden oppurtunity to buy? on: February 11, 2021, 03:00:15 PM
I have two reasons why btc will never drop as slow as that $20k again. This is the same thing i told my friend who invested in btc and he dscovered to be through after like two weeks.

1. Due to the adoption of institutional investors and their investment activities btc would always be rising at a frequent rate than when it was only halving event that usually lead to its surge in price.

2. The corporate adoption factor. We have started seeing great events happening around btc. The first was Tesla moving part of its balance sheet to btc and announced the acceptance of btc for Tesla product payment. Now when other companies follow suit it will lead to increase in the volume of btc transaction.

Hence, i am not sure if btc will get to that very low level.

actually the potential and opportunities to buy bitcoin are always open, it's just that we have to adjust to the time interval that will be noticed when placing a position order. There are many ways, namely to take advantage of the condition of bitcoin to be corrected for a while, there is no need to force it to buy 1 bitcoin, maybe 10% or 50%. because if you have to wait to see another $ 20,000, it is very irrelevant based on the current pattern of movement. What we need to know is that bitcoin will continue to balance which is a temporary correction and bullish is 2x the correction. so I suggest waiting for a while and observing its movements, it could be 1 day, 3 days or one week intervals. it depends on you who decide.
watch the chart and do the simple analysis you can afford.

To me, i feel he may be waiting without ever seeing btc correcting to as low as $20K again, though it will correct but the correction will be higher than that.

If i were him, what i would do is to determine a percentage of correction, once the time comes i will take position.

89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UBER will start to transact with Bitcoin? on: February 11, 2021, 02:53:25 PM
Just recently SQUAWK newsmaker interview with the CEO of UBER.
At first, the CEO said, they are likely don't want to buy some Bitcoin using their company's money and told, "We're going to keep our cash safe. - Tweet"

But after that, the CEO said:
"Just like we accept all kinds of local currency we are going to look at cryptocurrency and or #bitcoin in terms of currency to transact. That's good for business, that's good for our riders and our eaters" - Tweet.

So, what are your thoughts guys? For me, it's likely they don't want to do what Tesla did, adding Bitcoin to their balance sheet, but considering accepting Bitcoin as payments for their services. Seems still bullish for me.

If uber start using bitcoin as a payment option so bitcoin will start taking attention more because every person in every corner of world use uber. If it happens, it will massive move toward innovation.

That is through, this is because Uber is more like a utility company as we have our water board and electricity companies, we use them always. If this plan work, i also see that other aggregating digital companies such as Amazon, Facebook and Google will follow suit. You follow what the consumers deem good for them.

To me every company have different aversion to risk and different investment philosophies too. While Tesla may be very eager and ready in investment in volatile asset like btc, others may not have that gut to do that. You know Elon Musk is always associated with big things.

If Uber should accept btc as a means of payment it does have great impact. The impact is that a publicly traded company is accepting btc as a means of payment, others that are yet public like the SMEs will follow in smarm. It is a sure great news for the btc community.
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor releases “Bitcoin for Everybody” free course on: February 10, 2021, 03:38:56 PM
Michael Saylor is a great guy and i think he believes in the future of finance and currency to be defi and crypto respectively. I also believe he was responsible for Tesla investment of 1.5 USD into bitcoin. He once tweeted where he asked Elon Musk to move part of Tesla balance sheet into btc, he added that he would love to show his playbook with Elon Musk.

He is one of the advocates of bitcoin that has really helped bitcoin achieved alot in few months.

Feels great seeing him actually do something else(besides bringing the crap ton of publicity to bitcoin) to help the community.

With that said, I really can’t recommend it yet as I haven’t watched everything yet, but I’d figure some of you guys here might be curious or interested in it. I mean, it’s free sooo..

Link to his Tweet and video announcement: https://twitter.com/michael_saylor/status/1359150911994626054?s=21
Link to the actual course: https://learn.saylor.org/course/PRDV151

i went through the course and  i saw its relevance from two perspectives.

1. it helps to educate people on the economics of bitcoin, which is what the world really needs to know.

2. It also help to educate people on the technology of bitcoin, which is like the second equal halves of a probability.

With this knowledge many people will be able to judge accurately what btc is and what it is meant to do.

92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Journey : Doubling my BTC investment on: February 10, 2021, 03:24:48 PM
My this post is linked with my previous post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5251838.0

Before current bull run I have 0.1 BTC in my wallet when BTC was trading across 10k. I thought I bought BTC at much high price and it wont go up from here on wards. But things charged.
I am lucky enough to double enough my investment in BTC, thanks to current bull run. I sold my holdings at 30K and I am happy that I am able to get good return. No investment can give such return as BTC is giving to its HODLERS.

If a novice person like me can invest successfully in BTC then anyone with little knowledge can do the same.

Great news and congratulations to you for that. But, i do have a lesson for everyone from this winning investment story.

Lesson 1: He was held his investment until it got to the price appreciation where he was ready to take profit. We can only make profit via bitcoin investment if we are patient to HOLD and also be attentive to TIMING.

Lesson 2: He avoided GREED. He took his profit when he discovered that the time was suitable to do that. He would have waited more had he became impatient.

Hence, having the patience to hold and the ability to suppress greed, given the right timing are critical to success in crypto space.

Congratulations on racking up those profits on your Bitcoin investment. As someone who has seen a couple of bitcoin market cycles come and gone, it's safe to say that Bitcoin is one of the top performing assets of the last decade that has consistently rewarded hodlers and early adopters with more gains. Well, it's a bull run and everyone gets to benefit whether they have little to no knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

By the way, are you planning on investing back into bitcoin? The current price is about $17K from your sell zone but you can DCA for a bit.

Good advise. But, i believe what he should do in this case is to take his capital, and then reinvest the profit or part of the profit. who knows he might have needs that are pressing to meet with the return from the investment.

Also, still having some btc is a huge asset for the future. so, it will be great to reinvest back and wait for more appreciation.

93  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: February 10, 2021, 08:21:56 AM
I support the need for Nigeria local board for many noble and credible reasons.
Before stating the reasons, we should know that Nigeria is one of the leading countries in Africa in terms of crypto usage and adoption.

Here are the reasons.

1. We need to regulate our community. Since there are many players in this space, we need to introduce authentication to the crypto transaction. One of best approaches is the establishment of local board. This will help to facilitate exchange and members of the platform will acts as escrow.

2. We need to build a TRUST SYSTEM in our crypto system. Hence, we need a local to act as a trust system.

3. I am a copywriter as such many in Nigeria like CryptopreneaurBrainboss and others may need my services either to write copies, do research or write a whitepaper. We have other experts that are good in many other skills that can be valuable for everyone in the community.

Hence, I support 💯 % the establishment of a Nigeria local board.
94  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: February 09, 2021, 07:08:48 PM
In addition to what Charles_Tim had aired out, Nigerians are one of the most active users in the bitcointailk forum that had contributed positively for her development, in the recent time, we have about 500+ active members if I'm not mistaken and we keep having new members that comes in on a regular basis and more to be coming.

I came across similar thread long time ago by a user requesting same for Nigerian local board, I came to realize that Nigerians infact African as a whole weren't active enough to form a community at that time, now we have accumulated up to 520 replies and 11722 views with up to 27 pages in our community hangout discussing crypto related topics in our understood pidgin language at the moment.

My explanations above might not be convincing enough but it shows some slight improvement more than before, It's high time we get what we are requesting for.

Edit:
Here are some active Nigerian members in the forum,[members upward]

95  Economy / Speculation / Re: Apple is buying Bitcoin on: February 09, 2021, 04:07:05 PM
News are coming that Apple is going to buy cryptocurrency.

Apple can surge another 25% by adding cryptocurrency services to its Wallet app, RBC says :
https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/apple-can-surge-another-25-by-adding-cryptocurrency-services-to-its-wallet-app-rbc-says/articleshow/80757342.cms

This article is like analyst recommendation or perspective of what Apple Stock price will be it invest in bitcoin. Well, Apple is a very great company in the tech space, which we all know that the crypto and blockchain are part and parcle of the tech.

Apple has a history of performing better when it enter a new industry, like the iTune, when he entered the podcast industry, the Odeo Corporation could not continue due to the stiff competition.

If things go as they predicted that means that Apple would make good money for its sharholders.
96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla buys 1.5 BILLION worth Bitcoins !! Good or Bad ? on: February 09, 2021, 03:37:15 PM
Tesla brought 1.5 billion worth of bitcoins and at the same time the owner did this so that they can finally accept bitcoins as a form of payment. Now this is exceptionally amazing since, this year only Tesla did achieve such an amazing feat and Elon Musk apparently is doing a lot of good for the community , he even hosted a completion for people but let us just focus on the thing he did for bitcoins. This is an amazing opportunity since he would not only inspire people but you would also have a chance to buy things like Tesla using Bitcoins.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/02/08/tesla-buys-1point5-billion-in-bitcoin.html

Quote
Tesla announced in an SEC filing Monday that it has bought $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin.

The company also said it would start accepting bitcoin as a payment method for its products.

CEO Elon Musk has been credited for raising the prices of cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, through his messages on Twitter

They think it will help with more Flexibility and at the same time increase the cash returns .

BUT what am worried about is :
The market manipulation by Elon Musk that did happen this month on twitter , it was not only bad but at the same time it could mean that he plans to do such things in the future.

Even the author of the article seems to notice this :

Quote
The moves raise questions around CEO Elon Musk's recent behavior on Twitter, where he has been credited for increasing the prices of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and dogecoin by posting positive messages that have encouraged more people to buy the digital currencies

This is certainly a good move but it just gives more scope for the market manipulation.

What do you guys think ?? Will this bring more Volatility in the market controlled by such Whales ?

To me i see this move to be beyond moving the market like wales. I see this as a trail blazer and a pace setter. being the first publicly traded company to invest in Btc means he has created a new way of investing for others to consider.

By being objective about my analysis, i feel this would create an enormous growth for btc. In the coming months, we shall see how other entity will follow suit. Congrats to the btc community.

TBH, it's good for now and don't know what will happen next. But, recent tweets from Elon is just done to welcome those who buy Dogecoin in Fomo at top level. But Elon is more positive on Bitcoin and even regret for not becoming a hodler of Bitcoin in the past. Also, Elon musk previously said in an interview that he used dogecoin just for meme , on the other hand, now more searious about bitcoin which indicates that it won't become a problem in the long run.

Which is very true. We all know that Dogecoin is created purposely to be used for jokes. So, making fun with it by anybody shouldn't be an issue because that is its original purpose.

But, btc is not created for joke nor for entertainment, so its for serious investment such as this by Tesla.

Hence, while Dogecoin is for serious joke, bitcoin is for serious investment by serious entities like Tesla.

At least. 100 mil dollars. Coz life is expensive

So what ways ? How thos thing can make the big $$$$
Thats why im here im hhere for big cash !

I have always been told by mentors and coaches that the way to the top is from bottom. what do i mean, the first thing to do when you want to make the big buck in crypto is to seek knowledge. if you are not knowledgeable about this space you will likely fall to scam and you will part with your cash.

when that is done, here are the ways to make money.

1. Be a crypto analyst

2. Be a crypto trader.

3. Be a crypto investor.

when you know how to do this very well, you will start your journey to making the big buck in the crypto space.

If you are here for big cash then spend big efforts or big money to invest in Bitcoin. I think you need to specify when do you want to get that $100M? Day trade or invest in high risk high reward Bitcoin gambling sites and be lucky every day.

The probability of gambling success is to me is 0.0001, very slim. So, whoever that want to use gambling as a means of making the buck in crypto might end up gambling himself out of the industry.

Even though you want to gamble, be the expert in it. The common denominator of expert is Knowledge.

98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Digital rights lawyers sue CBN, SEC over bitcoin prohibition on: February 09, 2021, 03:18:45 PM
I love the Nigeria for certain reasons;

1. The youth are very creative and are highly adaptable to prevailing situations. When the CBN issued the circular restricting cryptocurrencies transaction in the country, the youth took over twitter to discuss how possible they could continue trading crypto. Honestly, crypto is one of the opportunities for the young in the country.

2. The Youth are very outspoken. During the EndSars protest, they spoke against the government that lack the adequate leadership skills to lead the country to an enviable height. so, this digital right lawyers will support the youth in terms of how to properly regulate the space.

But, how do you regulate what you lack sufficient knowledge about?

99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla buys $1.5 billion in Bitcoin on: February 09, 2021, 03:04:45 PM
Tesla invested 1.5 Billion USD into Bitcoin and plans to include Bitcoin as a payment method.
Definitely the reason for prices soaring right now.

Quote
Thereafter, we invested an aggregate $1.50 billion in bitcoin under this policy and may acquire and hold digital assets from time to time or long-term. Moreover, we expect to begin accepting bitcoin as a form of payment for our products in the near future, subject to applicable laws and initially on a limited basis, which we may or may not liquidate upon receipt.

Bloomberg report:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-08/tesla-invests-1-5-billion-in-bitcoin-plans-to-accept-cryptocurrency

SEC filing: https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1318605/000156459021004599/tsla-10k_20201231.htm

This is one of the greatest event to happen to the crypto industry. t is the adoption of btc by the world's richest man.It is beyond adoption, he invested and he is making it as a means of payment for his products. wow, i am very excited about this.

no wonder, he said during the club house event, that he was late to the party but he is a supporter of bitcoin, that btc is being adopted by the public. I also see how strategic is Michael Saylor in ensuring that Tesla invested in digital assets.

It seems Elon Musk knows how to play with people's emotions, and he can attract them to join with him. He already invests in bitcoin before the price is jump, but he announces it now to lift the price, and maybe that is the reason for the bitcoin price to jump higher and break $44,900. The trend still at the uptrend. But we do not know if the price can break $45k or not since that is close to that price.
Elon musk is really taking advantage of his influence, It is given that Elon bought a bag of bitcoin on the accumulation phase and I think this is his plan, He will not shill or do something that he won't gain something. We small-time trader/hodler/believer has a chance to ride his plans to make some profit. I hope that next time he will shill a useful coin not a useless coin like doge  Sad For the mean time, The tesla investment is I think good for bitcoin itself breaking the recent ATH and making a new ATH. I'm hoping that big names will start showing their motives to bitcoin.

I am sure he already buy bitcoin a long time ago before bitcoin increases. We can have a chance to make a profit by following people's reactions because of his tweet, and if we can adapt to the current situations, I am sure we will make a profit. I think he will tweet the other coins besides bitcoin and dogecoin, and I think he already makes a plan about that. We should be cautious and watch his step, so if the market does something, we are ready to follow.

Another perspective which will act as guide is that during bubble mostly created by Elon, must people tend to dump after few hours, so, those following such trends should not be victims of such massive dumping because when it happened the price crashes.

Though, there is huge value in trending but that value is only in timing.

This is a very great news and a big congratulations. Well, here is what I can deduce from this smart investment decision.

That's one of the smartest ways to minimize risk in any investment.
