Hi,

On first attempt, passwords are secure, but if you get it wrong and login from loginattempt2, it is just straight http and easy to sniff!
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flexcoin Invites on: July 30, 2011, 02:57:42 PM
How regular are interest payments? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?

Also, in terms of accounts, we have a username and a password. Are you going to make these more secure in future? Because at the moment a keylogger could get straight into anybodies account. Will you have similar measures that online banks take?
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flexcoin Invites on: July 30, 2011, 02:35:39 PM
Hi,

Does your bank offer any insurance policy in terms of if you got shut down for instance or hacked, would our money still be safe and backed up under some kind of insurance? Really like what you've done though, the bitcoin community needs something like this so thank you for all your hard work!
Also are payments to and from exchange sites such as MtGox or Britcoin fine?

Ok you hit on a few topics...  I'll try to answer.

1 - We are in discussion with one of the exchanges right now..  it's not finalized but the concept is 100% fee-less transfers from the bank to the exchange and back.    This however is early in discussion..  (one of the exchanges would be using a flexcoin id,  hence allowing for free transfers).  Right now you can send it to any exchange you want just like you would with your desktop client.

2 - Insurance,  this is a tricky problem.   The FDIC does not recognize bitcoins,  much less insure them.    We are 1000000% open to it,  it's just that the exchanges are not in a position to cover losses considering they have enough problems on their own (Goxed, or tradehill getting Dwollaed)

So we're looking at valid solutions,  but most insurance companies don't understand what a bitcoin is,  much less willing to insure them (based on recent media blasts regarding theft, etc)

Sounds good. Are you also planning on implementing a built in exchange one day? IE I could bank transfer some money in exchange for Bitcoins directly through the bank?

In regards to insurance, would it not be possible to insure the company concept for a substantial sum? As in ensure the security measures you have taken?

Finally, you're calling yourself a bank, doesn't that require some sort of disclaimer or legal certificate of some sort? Or are you exempt because you are dealing with bitcoins?

Just made my first bitcoin transfer to my account with no problems, very smooth, money was in within a few minutes.

How does this one look?

How worth it is it to overclock the gpu's? What difference does it make in terms of m/hash rate?
Thanks for the advice everyone!

Just requested one... Haven't read much about flexcoin yet but what ensures it's security over any other escrow service?

Wow! You're that hot and a total computer geek!
Actually not as uncommon as one might think. I know several very, very attractive female computer geeks, of which one is my girlfriend.

Not impossible but still extremely uncommon in proportion to most female computer geeks!

89  Bitcoin / Mining / What PSU should I buy? on: July 29, 2011, 01:26:15 PM
Hi all,

Have just started building a new PC which is going to be a mining rig alongside.

The motherboard has room for 3 5850's, but only bought one so far.
Am going to be running an i5 2500k as well.

What size psu do you recommend? I'm trying to go as cheap as possible but don't want it to fail on me!

Thanks

Go buy yourself a pile more cards!

Hi guys, I'm hoping to build a new PC very soon and would like to double it up as a bitcoin miner...
Is it still worth buying parts especially for mining? How much longer will it be profitable to mine for the average user?

Probably going to get the HD 5850, what do you reckon?
Should I spend a bit more money and get a couple of SLI'd cards?
Has anyone got a similar setup that works well for them? What are your specs?
Thanks!

Yup got 4x5850's running in one box

Motherboard: MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274

PSU: Antec 1200w (You can run with less but I like to get the best so if I choose to expand I can I think someone said you can run 4x5850 on 750w on another Post)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371032

The rest doesn't matter in my opinion but I got

RAM: Kingston 4Gb
CPU: Phenom II

I run linuxcoin on them and works awesome. No need to SLI (like Dargo said) you loose Mhashes

Very nice, I may go for a similar spec! How long do you think it takes to pay the parts off with this spec? Bear in mind electricity is a bit more expensive in the UK I think!

Also, is there an equivalent i5 board? As I think I'm going to go for the i5 2500k (Will be my main PC too...)

93  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Block Count on: July 28, 2011, 02:14:08 PM
Hi All,

Just a quick question...
If the bitcoin client already needs 500mb in space to remember the block count, what is this size going to become in future years? It seems a bit demanding don't you think?
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PAYPAL SCAM ALERT, scammer is John Binns and paypal. on: July 22, 2011, 01:46:43 PM
Here is the method on how you can get your 7 bitcoins back.
Paypal completely ignores blockexplorer, and it will go as far as denying that it exists, since it is obvious that palpal does not like bitcoin, and there is no point arguing to them about blockexplorer since they ignore it because it is convenient for them.

This is what you have to do, provide a tracking number, the delivery method is not important as long as it provides a tracking number, then provide that tracking number to paypal and a copy of the receipt with the tracking number to paypal, file uploads are disabled by default on the dispute form so you will have to call paypal to get file upload enables.

Just claim that the bitcoins were sent by mail, and you are covered for buyer protection. you can send the address where the bitcoin was sent, a copy of block explorer, a certificate, anything that proves that you sent the bitcoin, in the mail claim the value as the value of the bitcoins it represents.

I got my bitcoins back after 15 days.

Also ebay feedback is screwed up big time, since seller where only allowed to leave positive feedback for the scammer, there was a lot of positive feedback  for jabgasrm calling him an scammer, all that feedback was removed by ebay, I have a picture of the feedback page before ebay did the cleaning to his feedback.
Leason to be learned from this, is that ebay feedbacks are not trustworthy, they have no value whatsoever, before 2008 they meant something, but not now.

Thanks for the advice Sergio, that is basically the route I immediately decided to take when I realised what had happened! I posted the guy an envelope with "7 bitcoins" written inside, then provided paypal with the tracking number. Am still waiting to see what happens next though!
Fingers crossed! Will keep everyone updated
95  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Intriguing question about old addresses? on: July 22, 2011, 10:22:01 AM
Just thought I'd pose an intriguing question about old BTC addresses and what happens to them?
Supposing that someone, after a crash and losing their old BTC client and being unable to restore this goes and downloads another client, gets another address and starts sending to this client. Then one day, they accidentally send BTC to the old address and realise their mistake - where has their BTC just gone? i.e. down the drain or to another person? Is there someone somewhere profiteering somehow?
So what happens to the old address?
So somehow because the transaction has 'gone through', presumably there is only a record of it that can be accessed via block explorer and the client having failed to receive, the BTC has just 'disappeared' down a black hole?

There may be a more fool proof user friendly system developed in the future. At least I would hope so, a tighter built in back up system, maybe it will all be cloud based. You can already use wallets online, it's just whether you trust them or not!
96  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Losing Block Count When System Crashes on: July 22, 2011, 10:15:31 AM
Hi,

I have noticed a very annoying issue in that if your computer crashes or doesn't power off correctly when bitcoin is still obtaining blocks (Can take hours to catch up...) Then the blkindex.dat file becomes corrupt and you have to remove the count files (blkindex.dat & blk0001.dat) in order to open bitcoin again. At this stage you must go through ALL the blocks again...
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Other than not using Windows? Lol...

Hi,

wondering if somebody can help...
I'm attempting to mine for the first time, using Kiv's miner and am using CUDA on the slush pool.
I've set up an account etc, but when I press "start" it never stops "starting" so basically it doesn't actually start mining...
Am I forgetting something? I can't seem to get it to start...

Here's the screenshot:

Today I spoke to paypal and they are full of bs, they sayd "they believe the buyers account was compromised", I told them it is a bunch of bs, and I told them that they should have it secure on the very first chargeback.

The do not recognize electronic delivery even though they can be proven.

Here is my plan, and we are probably going to get our money back but it will take for ever, we can organize as a whole under one team since it is the same case for all of us, and under small claims court sue paypal, it will be up to the judge weather electronic delivery can be proven or not, given the very strong evidence against the scammer and paypal we have a very strong posibility of winning.

It makes more sense to sue paypal, since it is paypal that has failed us, and taken our money, the scammer would have never succeded without the help of paypal.

Under small claims in California the limit is $7500, and we should file suit for the actual amount of money that is going to cost to fight the case, legal advice, many trips to court, time loss,  email expenses, transportation, court expenses, etc, but under small claims it is mostly time that is wasted, not too much money, most likely paypal will never go to court and settle out of court since it is in their best interest.
With the evidence we have I believe we can win the case against paypal under small claims court.

Here is my email if someone would like to fight paypal under small claims court: sergiori@hotmail.com

The idea it to get all the facts organized, with all the people that got scammed.
We can each file one individual law suit, or one law suit covering us all.

Just got scammed for 7bitcoins, still awaiting paypal's decision, but it's an absolute joke that this goes on... Considering going to small claims myself in the UK, problem is it will cost me a few hundred quid to get started, and then it's always the judges decision... If the judge doesn't understand how bitcoin works then I'm screwed?

Hi,

I have seen your website for exchanging cash for bitcoins. I am interested in setting up a similar service within the UK.
I would appreciate any advice you may have to offer when starting out? Any precautions I need to take etc?
In return I will link your site on mine for visitors from the US/Canada who may have strolled onto my site.

Thanks in advance!
