81  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Addiction is 100% your choice: on: July 17, 2024, 06:43:21 AM
Can you comfortably tell yourself that you have never been addicted to gambling and that you can never be addicted to gambling because of how you go about it?
You have to be very intentional about your gambling habits and activities for you not to become a dictated unconsciously to gambling. Just as the way most persons are suffering from internet or phone addiction without them even knowing that it is an addiction. They only become aware when they have to go without their phones and they begin to have withdrawal symptoms. Those who are deliberate and intentional cannot get addicted to gambling. And it is in the actions more than just the words.
I doubt that it's the choice of most gambling addicts to become so, it starts gradually without them knowing that they're degenerating to addiction. I don't think that anybody can intentionally engage in any harmful habits to the extent that they can not control themselves. It's often others that will tell them about it or if they no longer have the means to the addition like money and phones, that is when they'll realize the extent of their addictions. Gamblers needs to always make conscience efforts to be disciplined about mentaining responsible gambling habits so that they'll not unknowingly make wrong choices that can lead to addiction.

83  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Competition: Player with the smallest bonus donates all to Charity on: July 16, 2024, 01:42:44 PM
I watched a YouTube video where the father and son had a slot betting competition. The rule was simple- the individual with the biggest bonus wins while the individual with the smallest bonus will have to donate all of it to their favorite charity which the family has been involved in. I liked the idea gambling and donating to charity for a good cause. I have hardly heard of gamblers doing something exactly like this. Do you think this is the kind of competition you will like to get involved in knowing that even your smallest bonus wins will all be given to charity and you'll have nothing left?
It's not a bad idea for father and son to gamble together, as far as the son is an adult and has a job. It's part of hanging out and having fun while gambling with the amount that they can afford to loose. Donating gamble wins to charity means that the gambler is truly gambling for fun and can afford to loose the money, and if they win and donate the money there'll be no regrets or hard feelings. I consider the competition to donate to charity as a healthy competition and it will improve the bond between the two of them, I think that I can do the same thing, so far that I know that my son is a responsible adult.
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitMex Founder Accuses Trump of Being Insincere About His Support for Crypto on: July 16, 2024, 11:17:16 AM
It's easy for anybody to accuse Trump of being insincere in his pro-Bitcoin pronouncements. He's a politician, after all. Moreover, it's election season, a time to lie and make false promises. It also doesn't help that Trump doesn't have a sterling track record to refute all these allegations of insincerity. Words have always been so cheap with this man. Also, he was once the president and during his time as the most powerful man in the US, not only did he fail to support Bitcoin, he heavily criticized it.

Well, he'll probably have his second chance thanks to his senile opponent. We'll see how his administration implements policies reflecting his campaign remarks.
Everybody knows that politicians will make any promises that will make the majority of their citizens to vote for them. When they win they'll do what's in their minds whether it tallies with their campaign promises or not so I wouldn't be surprised if Trump, wins and abandons his pro crypto stands for now. I've always said that Bitcoin has come this far and it's adoption is still growing despite the anti crypto stance of many world leaders, in the near future they wouldn't have any choice but to accept the obvious that cryptocurrency have come to stay. Nobody can silence the voice of the people in any democracy, it's just a matter of time and a new generation of leaders will emerge that will accept what Bitcoin stands for.
85  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: After Effects Of Gambling In Your Health And Pocket on: July 16, 2024, 07:34:46 AM
As I've said many times before, it just kind of blows my mind that so many of you have experienced these gambling issues dealing with your health or your money situation.  I'm just glad or perhaps lucky that I've never been in this type of situation and been able to control how much spending /gambling that I am doing.  I certainly wish people the best when it comes to this stuff as I know it can't be fun having a gambling addiction.
I've not experienced any lose of sleep or over gambling either, I guess that I mentally cautioned myself after my first ever gambling. I was quit young and a guy was doing scratch and win football, I exhausted the little money that I had while trying to scratch and win the ball, yet I didn't. After that incident I made a decision to have a budget for gambling and I've kept to that promise till date, so I think that having a gambling budget and being disciplined to stick to it can help to avoid over gambling and lose of sleep. I believe that a major factor to avoid gambling addiction is to have a budget that will be the amount that you can afford to loose and discipline to be a responsible gambler.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it proper for one to trade Bitcoin through a trusted friend ? on: July 15, 2024, 03:01:17 PM
Haven't nurturing this idea of trading a Bitcoin in the near future, but one question that's always come as a concern to me is. Is proper for me to trust a friend of that high magnitude ?
I try as much as possible not to allow monetary issues to come between me and my friends, from my personal experience I wouldn't advice it. If your friend is a very good and experienced crypto trader then let him mentor you, guide you on how to become a professional trader, instead of trading on your behalf. You can not become a real trader if someone else is doing it for you, you can start with demo trading and gradually start to improve your skills before starting actual trading. What if he's making profits and is telling you that he's loosing your money, how will you know without understanding how trading works?

Money can change people so you don't need to totally trust another person with a personalized business like Bitcoin and altcoins trading. You're better off hodling your Bitcoin while you improve your trading skills and do it yourself.

But the problem is that as OP shared, he has no intention of becoming a bitcoin trader in the near future . What he wants is to be able to make money from the market without spending time on it and relying on friends is the solution he is thinking of.

I agree that using money in relationships is very risky because it not only causes us to lose money but can also cause our relationships to fail . Therefore , OP needs to consider carefully when making the final decision . But I think this is the same as when we look for partners and colleagues to do business together, so if OP can take risks and really trust his friend, he can try . In my opinion , the important thing is that we need to calculate the risk, and if we are ready and accept it , we can do whatever we want.
Ofcourse the OP can give his experienced crypto trader friend his funds to trade for him and they will decide on how to share the profit and lose. But my concern is that crypto trading is not like the regular buying and selling business where customers buy and you make profit. Cryptocurrencies are volatile and a trader can loose his whole capital in a very short time, that is why I think that it's better for every trader to make their own decisions and accept the outcome of their trades because it's very easy to blame another person for a severe lose. So letting another person to trade for you goes beyond trusting them that they will not scam you, it's also about trusting their trading skills and decisions.
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DOGE or XRP on: July 15, 2024, 12:52:21 PM
Hello Community

I want some suggestion to invest in DOGE coin or XRP coin. I personally prefer DOGE coins. But I don't know how strong and active is the Dogecoin community currently? And How is Dogecoin being used in real-world transactions or by businesses?

My second choice is Ripple (XRP). But I want to know more details about it and then take a decision. What are some notable companies or institutions currently using RippleNet and XRP for their operations

Thank you.

I doubt that anybody can give you 100% assurance of what the position of Dogecoin or XRP will be in the near future, all you will get is speculations. You should understand that investing in altcoins are risky, including the two that you're looking at, so DYOR and gamble the amount that you can afford to loose, especially on memecoins. There are too many scam projects in the crypto market and even the top altcoins like Ethereum, BNB and Solana that have proven their reputations have no guarantee of continuously hitting new ATH in the long run. It's only Bitcoin that has that capacity to continuously reaching new ATH price, so it's the only cryptocurrency that I can fully endorse.
88  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ranking forms of enternaintment by money spent, gamnling's position on: July 15, 2024, 11:41:15 AM
If you consider gambling as a hobby, counting also the fun time you can achieve, is also a good factor to keep in your activity list.
but obviously there is not only this in gambling... most of the time you play to win and make a profit.
of course is an expensive hobby. gambling house and bookmakers are running a business and have a profit for them is a must not just an option.

Comparing how much you spend to the amount of time you enjoy the entertainment activities is not appropriate. The level or type of fun you get from each activity is different. The joy of winning a computer game where nothing is at stake is different from gambling. The anxiety and suspense of waiting for your game to play cannot be compared to the type I experience in movies. If gambling is only for entertainment, then I would prefer to buy a video game or pay for a TV subscription to watch some of the football games. Most people gamble to make a profit and this is one of the motivating factors for gambling and not the duration of fun.
I also think that the amount of time and money spent on entertainments differs and you cannot compare most of them to the amount of money spent on gambling. Gambling is an expensive entertainment if you're looking at it from the fun perspective, for other entertainments like going to the movies or sitting in a stadium to watch live matches, you pay once and enjoy yourself but the longer you stay in gambling the more money you're spending, except when you win. Gambling is not all about having fun, gamblers actually wants to win money, otherwise they can play video games as long as they want for free and be entertained.

90  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers➡Group Stage➡1/8➡QF➡HF➡FINAL on: July 15, 2024, 06:13:22 AM
It was a much more interesting game between the two teams before half time and both teams played well enough that there were no goals. But after halftime, Spain attacked much more powerfully and managed to score a goal in the 47th minute and they went ahead. The England team then attacked a lot to level the game and leveled the game in the 73rd minute. But then the Spanish team got more excited and scored another goal in the 86th minute to make it 2-1. Later England tried hard but could not equalize the game but Spain team gave a very strong performance and they finally took the Euro trophy. After winning the Euro trophy in 2012, it was really interesting that Spain team won the Euro trophy again in 2024.
The game was very interesting and the two sides gave their best but in football, especially in quarter and semi finals, a winner must emerge in a match. Despite England's best efforts Spain, won the match and they are the champion of Europe. Although I supported England, in the tournament and was hoping for them to lift the trophy, especially after they came second place in the last turnamet. They came so far again in this concluded turnamet and still finished in second place again, better luck to them in the future.

92  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think casinos can stop demanding KYC? on: July 14, 2024, 11:42:53 AM
Casinos existed without the need for KYC's until the government made it a requirement, and they started demanding it. IMO If the government no longer requires casinos to do KYC verification for new gamblers, casinos will go ahead and still do KYC verifications because they have seen the benefits of knowing their customers better than when they just allowed people to come onto their platform and gamble without their knowledge of who they were. What do you think? Do you think some casino's will revert back to non-KYC and allow money launderers, plus other fraudulent people have their easy way with them as a way to attract customers, or since they recognize the personal benefits of KYC to their casino, will continue demanding it even if it affects their customers?
We do not really need to make any guesses to know what it will happen as we saw what it actually came to happen, casinos did not implemented widespread KYC policies until the governments mandated them to do so, what does this tell us?

That casinos are perfectly fine with letting gamblers bet as much money as they want without forcing them to identify themselves, as casinos do not really care about that information, what they care about is the profits they can make, and a higher level of privacy gave them an edge over fiat casinos they could use to their advantage at the time.
Casinos didn't have KYC policies before governments began to mandate it so I doubt that they can continue to demand it if the government doesn't need it. But I doubt that KYC requirement from gamblers is going to stop because of it's success in reducing money laundering so it has come to stay permanently. Casino owners are business people and they wouldn't care if criminals are gambling their money, provided that they're making profits. No business person will ask how you made your money when you want to spend it on their products or services, they're happy to collect your money and let the authorities worry about you intentions of patronizing them.
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Historical mistake: England sold gold in 2019 and Germany sold BTC in 2024? on: July 14, 2024, 09:32:16 AM
Bitcoin investment is a business where people, institutions and governments can buy and sale it. I'm personally not making a bid deal about why the German government should sale their BTC at this time, the important thing is if they're selling at profit, if the Bitcoin were seized or they bought when price was $20k and are offloading it now, then I think that they're not doing so at a lose. They will probably divert or reinvest the funds gotten from their sale of Bitcoin into another asset that will benefit their economy, it's not necessary for them to hodl Bitcoin as a national reserve.
94  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on favorites or upsets? on: July 14, 2024, 08:00:14 AM
I think it should be betting on huge favorites or upsets.

Normally, when a team that is heavily favored to win loses, it's called an upset. But when a slightly favored team loses, they are called overvalued. Anyway, when it comes to betting, you don't just use one pattern like betting on the favorite or underdog all the time. That's why there are odds to use when analyzing the game. Sometimes you bet on the underdog, and sometimes on the favorites, but what's more important is to try to bet on the right side most of the time so you'll end up profitable.
Gamblers should be dynamic and not stick to one patten, you can bet on your favorite team today and feel like betting on the upsets or underdogs tomorrow. There's really no need to be rigid in gambling, that will take the fun out of it, just go with the flow and follow your guts to bet on the team that you think will win a match. I think that it's best to bet on a favorite team to win in a match because they're a favorite for a reason, there's a high chance of the favorite to win against an underdog, although upsets can still happen. Nobody can take the luck factor away from any game, it's the final whistle that will determine the winner of a match, so bet who your mind tells you to with the amount that you can afford to loose.
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: German Government completely sells off all its bitcoins. on: July 13, 2024, 11:55:35 AM
I see some people reporting that on Twitter but is it considered as sold simply because the funds are no longer in their cold wallet which is what the Arkham intelligence page is checking from my understanding? I mean the bitcoin could simply be sitting on whatever exchange they sent the funds to, and still have not been sold yet. Right?
Two things are involved: either it was completely sold or it was moved to another wallet. Whatever be the case, it generated negative market sentiment and the market responded accordingly. If the coins were deliberately moved to another wallet, the purpose will not be far from market manipulation like many people suggested when this whole thing started. They did not dump outright, instead, they were selling and also buying. Nevertheless, with empty wallet at this point, there are high chances they sold off.
It's true that whether the German government sold their Bitcoin off or they perhaps deposited them on exchanges, it has generated a negative impact in the market. This goes to show that news is one major factor that affects Bitcoin demand and supply, hodlers reacts to these news either to panic and sale or FOMO and buy. I tend to agree with the members who are of the opinion that it's most probable that they sold off all their Bitcoin. Whether it's whales that are offloading their bags, institutions or governments, it's effect on Bitcoin price will only be for the short term, so I'll just hodl and wait for bull run.
96  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What’s better to make a good profit - Trading or Gambling? on: July 13, 2024, 10:59:59 AM
You can make more money from trading than gambling if you are a professional trader because trading is based more on skills than luck. However, gambling is depends more on luck than trading which makes it difficult for you to be a professional gambler.

If you don't understand trading or have a good trading skills and your are trading, it is the same thing as gambling for the person because he will always run at loss just like gambling that is more of losses.
There's no accurate predictions on either gambling or crypto trading, however both have different levels of risks. Gambling doesn't require much skills, infact most games doesn't require any skills to play, they just depends on luck to win. Whereas crypto trading is hard and requires learning it's fundamental and technical analysis before understanding what the determinants are before placing trades. So trading requires the trader to learn the necessary skills to become a professional trader and that makes it to be more profitable because he understands the crypto market. Meanwhile for gambling, especially casinos games and lotteries are based on luck. It's only when someone is trading without any experience that you can liken him to a gambler, a professional trader is more profitable than the two.
97  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Another fatal case of building collapse: constant case of medicine after deaths. on: July 13, 2024, 10:03:58 AM

98  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The 'play till you hit it' mindset on: July 13, 2024, 08:07:45 AM
I think that play till you win mindset is a common desire among gamblers but it doesn't have to be on one day. Where it becomes a problem is when a gambler is chasing his loses on a particular day till he wins, there's a high chance that he will exhaust his bankroll and never get that win. Gambling responsibly is having a budget for the amount that you intend to gamble with and never exceed the planned amount whether win or lose. Main factor of irresponsible gambling is being obsessed with chasing loses and it is a road to addiction.
99  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's the basis for your Bitcoin speculation? on: July 12, 2024, 02:58:31 PM
I think that different factors plays out to determine the price of Bitcoin at different times and I cannot deny that the impact of whales buying and selling is one of the major determinants. I don't bother much about looking for basis for Bitcoin speculations because they can only be for a short time, I know that whatever it is whether it's whales dumping, a country offloading their bags or some global news, it won't count for long term hodling. I buy, hodl and wait for as long as it takes because I have faith that events will happen that will always skyrocket price and there'll always be new ATH.
100  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: What better ways can Bitcoin contribute to the economic situation in the country on: July 12, 2024, 10:56:51 AM
Cryptocurrency in general don help to create jobs for our country, especially for di youths wey be like say dem no get directions before now. E don create avenues for people to become self employed, instead to de go search for jobs wey de very scarce to get. So job creation na one of di biggest ways wey Bitcoin and altcoins don take better our economy, many Nigerians de into crypto trading, some na vendors for exchanges and others de hold cryptocurrency to sale and make profits, Aldo you need to DYOR because of plenty scam projects before you buy, dat na why e de advisable for newbies to hodl only Bitcoin wey be di most reputable cryptocurrency.

You question about how di less privileged fit to take afford Bitcoin, di answer na to buy am or if person reward or gift am to a less privileged person. Di truth be say e no de easy for a jobless person or person wey no get any single source of income to invest or do crypto trading business. Cryptocurrency na profit and lose business wey you fit to lose all your money, except for Bitcoin investment on di long term, so you need money to buy coins/tokens to trade or hold, e no go get head without money. That na why you need a job or skills wey go de give you steady income before you go diversify di money into cryptocurrency business.
