81  Other / Meta / Re: Account Deletion on: May 27, 2015, 12:12:27 PM
EDIT: With that being said, if you still want to delete your account then the closest thing that you can achieve to a complete deletion is to delete all of your posts (or at least the ones that are possible to delete), change your password to an impossibly long one, and walk away.

Given that OP hasn't been online since 13 minutes after posting this thread and his trust page shows that his password was changed recently, it looks like he listened to your advice.

Since his account was registered in 2012, he could have sold it for some BTC too although it's probably too late now. It's a newbie account so it's probably not worth much but he might have gotten a small amount (like 0.01 BTC) for it.
82  Other / Meta / Re: Got email that the website was hacked and stole users info. on: May 26, 2015, 04:49:50 PM
I was wondering if this is true that the website was hacked into and stole people's information?

Or if this is fake and someone trying to steal your password from PHISHING website?

What do I need to do?

It's true. Sad

Basically, an attacker managed to gain root access to the server and a portion of the database containing users' information was compromised.

There are multiple threads about the incident in the "Meta" section (link) which is probably a better fit for this thread rather than "Development & Technical Discussion".

There is also an official announcement by theymos which goes into more detail about the hack:

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1067985

It's advisable to change your passwords and weaker passwords are especially vulnerable. If the list of email addresses was compromised/is leaked, then you might see more spam coming into your inbox as well.
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poloniex changing their ToS -- Needs verification for withdrawals next week. on: May 19, 2015, 01:36:36 AM
i lost my dogecoins from this tranfer!!!!  Sad

I don't think the restriction is in place yet. It won't be a requirement until the 20th. Your dogecoins shouldn't be affected:

84  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: If Bitcoin hard forks, do alternative clients need to be updated? on: May 16, 2015, 10:38:01 AM
Thanks for the answers. That was similar to what I thought (since the external servers grab their data from core nodes which are full clients).

Currently there is some discussion about hard forking Bitcoin so that the maximum block size is increased. That would require a mandatory update for Bitcoin Core. But what about alternative clients like Electrum and Multibit? Do these also need to be updated or not? Since they rely on external servers, is it just these servers that need to be updated or everyone who uses the program?

Only if the majority of the miners agree there can be a protocol update. Electrum and Multibit have active development. A block size increase probably has effect on the source code.

If a protocol update was announced and not all miners agreed to the fork then the network would bifurcate. Electrum and Multibit have rapid development as you point out so I would think that if there is any compatibility issue (and there seems to be none for the example that I posted in the OP) then they would modify their code to "speak" with the core nodes on the correct fork of the Bitcoin blockchain.

At least that was my assumption.
85  Economy / Auctions / Re: Bitcoin Domains Auction No Reserve Start 0.01btc on: May 16, 2015, 10:15:12 AM
Is the starting bid 0.01 BTC (what it says in your title) or 0.05 BTC (what it says in your post)?

And is the price for each domain or the whole lot?
86  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: May 16, 2015, 09:45:04 AM
After the fall of Mt. Gox ...I think this is very important Q to all Bitcoin newbies like me.

The first exchange I used was Mt. Gox but I lost interest in Bitcoin shortly after making my account there. Over the past year, I made a few small purchases off LocalBitcoins which I've been quite happy with.

I'm not a trader and my experience so far has been that while the prices are a little bit higher there versus other exchanges, the volatility of Bitcoin makes this pretty much irrelevant especially for smaller-sized purchases.

What exchanges do any Aussies on this forum use?

Oddly enough, there aren't that many exchanges in Australia at the moment so your choices are pretty small. You could try this one:

http://www.independentreserve.com/

I think they're currently the biggest one there.
87  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tsarnaev Given Death Penalty in Boston Marathon Bombing on: May 16, 2015, 09:34:07 AM
It took time. Tsarnaev guilty was certain and his defence didn't have too many arguments to work with.

But I'm wondering is the death penalty really a big punishment? I think that for someone who committed a cruel crime there should be something else. Maybe not tortures but heavy work in the quarries for 10 years with only water and dry bread for food. And after that period death sentence.

Just curious but how would this scale? Does Timothy McVeigh who killed 168 people get the same punishment as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who killed 4 people? Or does McVeigh get 168 times more heavy work than Tsaenaev (and then death)?

And what would happen if they refused to work? Would they just get a normal life sentence? Or a normal death sentence?

Feeding someone only bread and water would probably count as torture in itself since the human body can't get the nutrients it needs for survival from just bread alone. Forget 10 years. He'd be dead in 8 months.
88  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie accounts used for trolling on: May 16, 2015, 09:16:51 AM
Did there not used to be a rule that newbies were confined to the Beginners section for a period of time. Has that been abandoned ?

Yes, that restriction is no longer in force.

There was a thread about bringing back the newbie jail posted a while ago (it's a subject that pops up every now and then):

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1006758

The general statement from the staff was that it doesn't actually prevent people from creating sockpuppet accounts and scamming/spamming the board and that the restrictions are only a minor annoyance to them while at the same time, it puts off average users from contributing.

By the way , what's a newbie Jail Huh Have heard it many times , i realize it something that stops newbie from posting too much or something like that.
Can i get a clear view on it ?

"Newbie Jail" is a term used to describe a small portion of the forum that newbies were restricted to.  They didn't have access to everything, hence the term "jail".

That was the beginner & help board (and the local boards). The term "newbie jail" probably isn't even completely accurate since the restriction was removed once you made several posts, not when you actually stopped being a newbie.
89  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lost Hiker survives off own breast milk on: May 16, 2015, 08:28:00 AM
Survived one whole night!?!  Stop the presses.

I know the excuse I'm going to use if I get caught jacking off in the woods.

Stuck in a bush for the night?! Stop the presses!

I've stayed in wilderness for longer than a single night, and I certainly don't have any breast milk to feed me!

Just recently, I spent a day without access to food or water for 24 hours. It's surprisingly more difficult than you think and by the end of the experience, I was starting to get dizzy and weak (and very thirsty and hungry too of course). And that was just in my own home. Being trapped in the woods after a long day of strenuous exercise and hiking for 12 miles with the sun beating down on you would have definitely been a very uncomfortable experience.

Also, as a survival tactic, what she did probably doesn't make much sense. Any water or nutrients from the breast milk would have simply been reabsorbed and reallocated to other areas of her body as needed.
90  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tsarnaev Given Death Penalty in Boston Marathon Bombing on: May 16, 2015, 08:17:11 AM
If you look at the stats for those in death row, it seems unlikely that he will actually be executed:

Quote
Just three of the 74 people sentenced to death in the United States for federal crimes since 1988 have been executed. The first was Timothy McVeigh, put to death in June 2001 for killing 168 people in his 1995 attack on the federal government office building in Oklahoma City.

Other people convicted of attacks labelled as terrorist by the U.S. government, including 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and shoe-bomber Richard Reid, drew life prison sentences.

It also seems that the decision to actually hand down a death sentence hasn't happened (yet) since that's for the judge to decide:

Quote
The jury's decision does not mean that death is imminent for the former high school wrestler. U.S. District Judge George O'Toole will formally sentence Tsarnaev to death at a yet-to-be-scheduled hearing sometime in the next few months. Defence attorneys are likely to appeal the decision.
91  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is day trading on Coinbase profitable? on: May 16, 2015, 07:51:39 AM
If you have good strategy and knowledge then day trading is always profitable otherwise it will erode your account balance. Benefits of daytrading is no overnight tension.

I wouldn't say it's always profitable. Even the most highly experienced traders can experience large losing streaks sometimes. The difference (or so I've been told) is that they don't let their emotions take control. They have a strategy in place and they follow it in order to cut their losses when enough is enough rather than letting them drag on and on.

Also one thing to learn is that you don't always need to be in a position.  Currently we're mostly going sideways with chop, we're not in a trending market.  As a trader you don't need to trade this.

But a sideways market can also be a good opportunity for a trader who knows his stuff.

93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: May 16, 2015, 05:54:07 AM
I haven't invested anywhere the amount that I would be considered the "wealthy elite".  A guy can still dream I guess.   Cry  Maybe quite a few on this forum have enough BTC where this would be true.

I think the idea is that you can invest a modest amount of BTC, wait a while for the world to realize the benefits of the technology, and then become part of the wealthy elite since the value of your stash of coins would have grown by then. It worked for the first generation of Bitcoiners, and it could work for us.

Say if someone had invested just $3,000 into BTC in October 2011 when they were going for $3 per coin. $3,000 isn't enough for someone to be considered part of the wealthy elite. But if they held onto their coins and sold when they were worth $1,000 each, he would have $1 million and therefore become part of the new wealthy elite. Grin
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: May 16, 2015, 04:42:12 AM
I have not become rich after using bitcoin, but I will continue to try to obtain money from bitcoin

This was a thread started by an early adopter in 2011.
Many who were posting then will have made significant money from BTC.

And most people like dhimasnk, you, and I who registered in 2014 lost money from Bitcoin. Cry

I think the price will rise eventually though.

That was a lesson learned by you though and you never spent your familys money chasing it did you. The thing is it is not nearly as difficult as people think, I am not great by any means but I am in profit trading and if anyone is interested here is a great site to learn trading basics 'ignore the name' lol http://www.babypips.com this will put most people on the right track then maybe in time they can become the wealthy from bitcoin Wink

I remember browsing that site back in 2011 when I got into forex trading. I knew about Bitcoin too back then but I chose forex instead. Sad

Fortunately, after losing a bit of money from a poor trading decision, I was able to get most of it back, withdrew my funds, and decided to never trade forex again. Cheesy

still holding since may 2013

So you're pretty much back to where you started from then?

Ya, I learned early on that I am not good with day trading. Lost about 400 bitcoins doing so.

Fortunately it was when the price was under $10.

If you are not a day trading expert, just buy and hold (better yet, convert and spend).

What difference would it make?

Converting fiat to BTC puts buying pressure (a good thing) on BTC but spending that BTC puts selling pressure (a bad thing) on BTC since it would be converted back into fiat. So wouldn't the two effects simply cancel each other out?

Not to mention there would be buying/selling fees cutting into it as well...

Me and you the same, the long term charts paint a pretty obvious picture and however much I don't like it, it is true. We have been dropping dropping and soon dropped. Will it bounce back in time!? Not sure if it drops to far and for to long a lot of people will just keep bailing with their losses and not look back and I don't blame them. So no OP I don't think we are wealthy elite more like broke wishful thinkers, the elite have go out of dodge.

Price in June 2011 was $33 per bitcoin. Price in January 2013 was $13 per bitcoin. Between those two points, the price dropped down to almost $2 per bitcoin at one stage.

I think we still have hope. Smiley

225 is the new floor, from here builds up the next exponent bubble.

The floor would have been $165 which it reached back in January (albeit only momentarily).

I'd love it if it helped Bitcoin. I'm holding quite a few. I just look at it as if these companies are students in college. When you graduate you don't build your company on the schools network. You build your own network and use the knowledge you learned at school. That's what I think they're doing but we'll see. If I'm wrong I'm rich. So I hope I'm wrong.

Google and Facebook built their companies on their schools' networks. Tongue

Yep, I've already read that. That's why I mentioned colored coins because the experiments will be done with the experimental system already in place. Is that the final design that will be used? Can you tell me that one?

Do you mean Colored Coins specifically or the concept of colored coins in general?
95  Economy / Services / Re: CloudMining.website Signature Campaign - Sr. Member & above -ve Trust allowed on: May 16, 2015, 02:44:10 AM
will this still be continued :/
broke my leg so I had to spend some time in the hospital

Yes... the campaign will continue. Please re-apply with current stats.

Your rates are too low for members with +ve/neutral trust.

The rates for this campaign are a bit confusing. Only the rate for senior members and above (0.0007 BTC per post) is listed in the OP while there are sig codes for all ranks but no mention of rates alongside them.
96  Economy / Services / Re: Coinomat.com - Signature Campaign! [STARTED] on: May 16, 2015, 02:32:44 AM
Do posts made in this campaign roll over?

The rates for full members are a bit low compared to Bitmixer and a few others but 0.001 BTC/post for senior members is quite good. The campaign is only 4 days old but there are already 16 pages so it looks like this campaign is very popular.

I like this , i like partecipate as this signature and support this proget , whit btc i buy your asset nxt ! 👍

Yeah, it's great. Lots of dividends so far. Smiley

4 Days? Not quite. They been here a little over a month and have done a great job since they started advertising here. Constant payments, upgrades to the payment system, recalculations due to simple mistakes. Its a good campaign to be in. Definately in the top 3.

Oops. You're right. I looked at the thread starting date (March 30) and the date back then (May 4) and forgot there was a month in between. Not sure how I missed that. Cheesy

I tried verifying bytezero's signed message posted below but the verifier at Brainwallet.org isn't working. Sad

The button to verify the message is missing and nothing happens after I paste in the appropriate fields. I tried it with a few other messages and the same thing happens so there must be something wrong with the site.

98  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is day trading on Coinbase profitable? on: May 16, 2015, 02:03:37 AM
Hello , Coinbase problem is the verification that take on funding option sometimes you will
need to send some money to your account via Bank , but they will take a lot of time to
confirm it , at that time you may loose if you buy or the market can made changes .

Bitcoin Boy .

I admit I've never used Coinbase before but with day trading, I would think that your balance (both fiat and USD) would already be stored in the exchange itself with buy and sell orders being placed seconds after submitting them. So after the verification process and initial deposit, you would rarely need to send fiat to the exchange from your bank account, no?
You may have right , but don't forget that the price may be go down in a day you don't have
fund , and you are needing to buy urgent cause you know that you will earn a lot, so that
the verification process will burn your profit if you send from bank again

But I can agree too with what you say .

Bitcoin Boy .

I see what you mean. The only exchange I've ever used was BTC-e and I remember they had a variety of options for transferring fiat and some were supposed to be faster than others so that might be something worth looking into. I think 3 days is usually the standard time it takes for funds to be transferred from a bank account to an exchange. In any case, it's probably a good idea to keep some USD on the exchange for situations like those.
99  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice.com | Most Popular & Trusted Bitcoin Game | Huge Community | Free BTC on: May 16, 2015, 01:14:30 AM
For Primedice cases, I dont think that they might be switching into altcoins as I believe the US players just a small fraction from their regular players .

Does anyone know exactly how many of their players are based in the US? Is it under 50%?

No one know exactly how many players are from the US since people from the US could be connected by using VPN so there is no way to know for sure how many of them are. Russian should be atleast 30 %, that could be why they have their own chatroom , suspect it to be the majority there.

Thought we have through this before but even if PrimeDice is blocking deposit from US players, there are alot of way to bypass this check by using VPN / TOR so the number of US players playing should not be dropping significantly

There would still be a lot of US players who don't want to deal with setting up Tor or paying for and setting up a VPN (I know free ones exist but usually most people pay for VPN services) so I think the drop will be quite significant.

Didn't realize there were so many Russian players on Primedice or that they even had their own chat for that matter. Shocked

Quote
P.S : 14M roll left before 5 billionth bet, expecting it to be reach in another 48 hours at least . Cogratulations PrimeDice  Wink

I'm guessing the 5 billionth bet has been reached by now. What prize did that person get (assuming they got anything at all)? Grin

When I gamble I choose PrimeDice.   Cheesy
i also use primedice really often though nowadays i think that there are some good rivals to it and that makes me sometimes choose others, i think if they want to hold their players they have to raise faucet and improve design

From what I've seen, most other dice sites copy PD's design and features. I would prefer a higher faucet too but it's not bad by any means.
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's say satoshi is cashing out 1million BTC on: May 16, 2015, 01:02:01 AM
It's funny that one of the most favourite topic of newbies is the satoshi stash.

In reality he couldn't really sell it anywhere near the market price, as soon as those coins would move the markets would crash immediately.

it can't destroy bitcoin, but the price will collapse more than 1 time, but it will finally recovery it, i believe that.

Here's an interesting thread about this very topic:

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504149

If Satoshi chooses to dump his coins (and all of them), the price would be brought down to the single digits for a while but it wouldn't go to $0 except perhaps momentarily depending on the depth of the orderbook of the exchange he dumped his coins on. Across all exchanges, there are more than a million buy orders at $1 and several times more in orders above this so it's unlikely to go too low before climbing back up again.
