81  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: May 07, 2014, 02:30:48 AM
Cryptocrimson also has an article on HashFast:

ASIC MANUFACTURER HASHFAST FACING FRAUD ACCUSATIONS
http://cryptocrimson.com/2014/05/asic-manufacturer-hashfast-facing-fraud-accusations/

Well, you reap what you sow HashFast. Can't say I'm surprised. Sad.

I for one decided not to take the legal route on the assumption that once production was ramped up in January the promised MPP was soon to follow. Now the likely outcome will be that HF is insolvent by the time they are 'planning' to ship the MPP in June. Not that it matters by that time anyway.

Goodbye and good riddance.

I am running off a Pi.
Could you give me a pointer on how to set up HoboNickels to run off a Raspberry Pi?
Enjoy!
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/8233-pihobonickels/

Thank you!

I picked up a 32GB SD card yesterday and was able to get hobonickelsd running on my Pi Smiley

The tutorial was really helpful. The only place where I got stuck was on step 3.2: "removed #include from scrypt_mine.cpp"
It took me some time to figure out that only applied to "#include <xmmintrin.h>". After removing that it compiled fine.

Some other things I did was reallocate shared RAM from the GPU back to the system (sudo ./raspi-config), set a larger swap (1GB) and set USE_UPNP=1 in makefile.unix. I'm a happy hobo now.
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The size of the blockchain... on: May 03, 2014, 01:53:25 AM
It's been said before, but bears repeating: internet routers make the ideal candidate for a low cost bitcoin node device. The trouble is that both RAM and storage of a typical 2014 device are not in anywhere close to the right kind of league to do the job.

This is what I would like to see as well. Modern routers nowadays have dual core 1 GHz+ ARM processors and up to 256MB of RAM so they are getting close. It is not too much of a stretch to imagine an open source router firmware like OpenWRT to support bitcoind, bitcore, cgminer, p2pool and other bitcoin goodies. A router might even be a fairly secure place to run a intranet 'web' wallet on. (no malware, viruses or keyloggers)

If someone decides to build a Bitcoin Router and crowdfund it on KickStarter I'd be the fist to back it.

I am running off a Pi.

Sweet. I'd like to try that approach as well.

Could you give me a pointer on how to set up HoboNickels to run off a Raspberry Pi?

85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: can someone help me with a gridseed miner please 0.02 btc for help on: May 02, 2014, 10:12:22 PM
1) Get a RaspberryPi
2) Install Scripta to SD card (https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=9908.0)
3) Configure Pool
4) Connect Gridseed.
5) Done.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshis seriously, already! its defacto now, forget ubtc and mbtc on: May 01, 2014, 08:25:48 PM
Bits is by far the best proposal for practical purposes.

1 bit is a hundred Satoshi
1 bitcoin is a million bits

Easy to remember, easy to use.

re 5) For the PR topic, it's still a to-be-solved problem.

Thanks for the update Jutarul.

I actually think you may have largely solved issue 5 already if you keep doing what you are doing Smiley

One thing I realized that gives PoS coins a leg up is that any investment made to stake mine it is made directly into the coin making it more valuable to all its users. With sha256 and scrypt PoW coins people have invested millions into mining hardware. That is money that went directly into the pockets of the GPU/FPGA/ASIC manufacturers. With a PoS coin it will go directly into the coin marketcap itself. I like that model.

The generous stake in HBN makes it a very attractive coin to (buy and) hold.

I created a small position a few weeks ago to try out PoS mining since the ASIC hardware grind was starting to wear me out and prompted me to look for alternatives that do not obsolete themselves within 6 months.

Personally, I'm using hobo to save for a lawnmower.

Batch-1 is closed. Every customer who wished to do so has received their purchases.

Batch 1 orders include MPP and isn't closed until you ship what you promised.

No need to hurry, It's only been ~9 months since I ordered and the network hashrate isn't going anywhere... *cough*

HashFast, refund your customers. It benefits everyone.

Exactly. A company that cannibalizes their customers has no future.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: April 25, 2014, 06:34:59 PM

iXcoin now at 40 Peta-Hash network [Security].

The distance [in network security] between iXcoin and 99% of the alts is getting ridiculous.

Yet [still] nobody sees this massive advantage yet.  People really are sheep eating up anything the Bitcoin "experts" throw at them.

iXcoin is getting a free ride due to merged mining. This is just a temporary advantage, since IXC will reach maturity in 2015 (All 21M coins mined) there will be no need for miners to continue doing this after next year (no reward, no work). As such they will likely drop IXC like a hot potato. Because there are not enough real transactions (fees) on the IXC network there is no incentive for anyone to keep the difficulty (and security) up. Unless something changes everything will fall apart.

The good news is that IXC is going through insane inflation right now (money supply is expanding much faster compared to bitcoin) and is still maintaining its value fairly well. After 2015 the only way to acquire IXC is to buy. It only makes sense to buy if the security of the network can be maintained so that is paramount to the survival of iXcoin. This deadline is approaching fast.

For IXC to survive I suggest that the model be changed to 5%/year PoS after the 21M PoW maturity point is reached in 2015.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: April 24, 2014, 02:08:00 AM
iXcoin was a testbed for the raw Bitcoin protocol:  What would happen if you left it untouched for nearly the entire duration of its mining life.

iXcoin proved that it did not need any maintenance or updates to survive and that it's bullet proof, it can take any amount of hash-power thrown at it.  If you look at how easily other coins break or die, this is a rare and difficult feat.

iXcoin is Bitcoin - tested and true, but with more liquidity and no image problems.

iXcoin is now ready to be implemented as the world's premiere payment system:  Anything Bitcoin can do, iXcoin can do as well [or better].

haha, you really need to ease up on the Kool-Aid my friend Smiley

Disclaimer: I own some IXC but there is no way iXcoin is going to replace Bitcoin any time soon (ever).
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] What altcoins will survive the next 12 months? on: April 24, 2014, 01:55:57 AM
I recently built a small position in HoboNickels.

After doing some research I found the fundamentals, community and developers very solid compared to the marketcap. It is a hybrid PoW (scrypt) & PoS coin with an attractive stake reward. So I'll mainly use it for PoS mining over the next year or so.

...Also I guess I got a bit tired of the 'coin' postfix :)

A good article on Ars Technica covering BFL's business practices:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/04/digging-for-answers-the-strong-smell-of-fraud-from-one-bitcoin-miner-maker/

HashFast take note because this is where you will end up if you don't change your ways.

I've been a day 1 BFL customer and a day 1 HF customer. I can honestly say that my experience with HF was/is worse and the losses greater. Not only has HF broken their stated promises, they lied directly into my face and accused me of being a windfall seeker.

96  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: April 21, 2014, 05:21:05 AM
This company's rating has changed in the Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide.

Thanks for the update. A D+ is still way too generous for this 'company' imho.

MPP scheme soon to be shipping

MPP should have shipped at the end of the 3 Month MPP window which started Nov 1 2013. Instead Batch 1 customers will maybe see something at the end of June 2014. And that is a big maybe given the fact that HF has defaulted on every promise they made so far. MPP in June (or more likely July/August, a full year after the order) is a slap in the face. It will be nothing more than a noisy power sucking paperweight to remind customers of how hard HF screwed them over.

This is a really nice & clean design.

The design will also soon be available open source in abe explorer.

Is there an ETA for the open source release?

How is the puzzle related to BTC?
Was the correct answer 9, or the "other pattern'?

In both cases it will be 9.

Case 1
1+2=3
2+4=6
3+6=9

Case 2
1
2>4>2
3>6>9>6>3
