Maybe someone can educate me: at $960 for 760-880 MH/s, wouldn't one be better off by buying 7970s?
Is this worth it because of lower power consumption?

Very strange. Bidding in BTC, but payment in USD ? You must be very very bullish on rising price of BTC. What happens if auction ends in 250 BTC, and on 15th April price of BTC becomes 20 USD. Will you honor the terms ? Of course, it can also become 200 USD, and then you profit a lot. High risk, high gain in this case, I guess.
Yes, that's the whole point and will be honored either way. Elaborating a bit more, yes, if BTC becomes 20 USD, and the winning bid is 200 BTC, yes, I will take 4000 USD. If BTC becomes 200 USD at the same winning bid, I will take 40,000 USD. Since Avalon is used to generate bitcoins, its fiat value will inherently be tied to the exchange rate of that fiat currency.

GL coinnewb! For anyone wondering, this is legit and seller is 100% above board.
Thanks, faisalp! BTW, in case it wasn't clear, this is a 3 modules unit (Avalon did not start selling 4 modules unit until batch 3).

Hi all, What: I have another Avalon Batch 1 unit for sale. It's not a pre-order. The unit is in my possession and working. When: The auction will end on April 16, 2013, 9 PM Pacific time ( http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/usa/pacific-time/). I had received PMs before asking about the unit after it was sold, so I want to give ample time for everyone to consider this time around. Closing: The winner of the auction is expected to close the deal by April 19, 2013, 5PM Pacific time. Where: Eastside of Seattle, WA area (Bellevue/Redmond, if you are familiar with the area). After auction ends, we will find a safe place to meet to ensure a working unit and exchange. Bidding: Starting bid is BTC200 and bidding increment is BTC1. Payment: To make bidding easier (for ROI calculation purposes), bidding will be done in BTC. However, I want the transaction to be done in cash only. We will use the 24 hour average price at Mt. Gox when the auction ends (see "When" above) for cash price calculation. Conditions: Just like last time, local pickup only please. I will not ship the unit and no exceptions! The unit is located in the Seattle, WA area (see above). I reserve the right to cancel the auction anytime and refuse to sell to someone if I feel that there is an issue with their intent to follow through. Conditions: Again, local pickup only. I would prefer someone local - that way I don't have to deal with someone else's flight schedule, but if you are willing to drive/fly in, that's fine. Just don't expect me to go out of my way to accommodate your schedule please. If you have any question, feel free to PM me or post in this thread.

I did not gamble on this but come on guys, I don't understand how it is possible that some of you are considering this as "BFL is shipping"
What a joke
+1 Full disclosure: I did not bet on this either, but if you think BFL shipped by the evidence presented so far, you should run for a political office.

Hello, with BFL recent news of their product possibly becoming a reality. Would I be advised to sell my Avalon batch #2 and #3. Any feedback would be great!
note: I still do want to mine bitcoins and isn't all about money
What makes you think BFL's shipping estimate is any good this time around???

It was either a bad power supply, or everything needed to be unplugged and replugged. Upped it to a "1250W" POS that I know from experience is more like a 900W, but it ran a 4 gpu rig for 2 years rock solid, so even though it is offbrand crap PSU it's one of the good ones.
So that's how to fix the no fans red light problem - I'd like to thank the Official Avalon Tech Support Thread, myself, and until next time, peace out.
Good deal. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Kudos to CH for doing this for the community. I have no skin in this group buy, but it is refreshing to see the community getting together to help each other. I've read many negative threads (scams, lies, etc) on this board, so it's good to see something positive from time to time.
Keep up the good work!

is it really only 4btc per day ? - it should be 14BTC with 65000mh/s so its only 2 months to pay back for itself edit: nvm it was x3 ;p It should be close to BTC5 per day at current difficulty. When overclocked, it should be closer to BTC5.26. Assuming that the difficulty increases linearly to 5x of the current difficulty in 1 year, BTC750 would pay back itself in about 220 to 250 days ignoring power cost. Is that too long? The answer will depend on who you ask!

Bounty received! Thank you!

Did you upgrade the power supply or are you still using the 700W power supply with 4 modules? If so, that's probably your problem.

Quasi fixed the issue with the miner quitting. The cgminer-monitor script has an error in it which writes out " [ACCEPTED] => X" in the file it's comparing against "[ACCEPTED] => X". These extra spaces caused the files to not match which causes the script to think that cgminer is still mining correctly. This script below removes all spaces from the files when they are created and makes the checking accurate. Replace the contents of /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor with the script below and the cron job should once again be able to properly reset cgminer when it stops mining.
#!/bin/sh # This file is for cron job
C=`pidof cgminer | wc -w` if [ "$C" != "1" ]; then /etc/init.d/cgminer stop /etc/init.d/cgminer start exit 0; fi
A=`cat /tmp/cm.log | sed "s/ //g"` B=`cgminer-api | grep "^ \[Accepted\]" | sed "s/ //g"` echo $B > /tmp/cm.log if [ "$A" == "$B" ]; then /etc/init.d/cgminer stop /etc/init.d/cgminer start exit 0; fi
This is a good catch. I've changed mine like this as well and will see if this does the trick. Thanks! this will restart cgminer each time the crom job runs Not true. It's working as intended and has actually saved me twice today on one of my Avalons. First part of the script stops and starts cgminer if it cant detect a pid for it. The second part compares accepted shares from five minutes ago (if thats where your cron is scheduled) to current. If it's different, it's assumed that everything is working. If it's the same, it's assumed the miner has stalled but not quit. A restart is then initiated. The only difference between my script and the one already in there are the regex sed commands to remove spaces from the files it's echoing out and comparing so there is no false negative. +1

Thanks for your interest.
I don't have to sell this as you may understand, so the terms are non-negotiable, and for someone LOCAL only please. That way you don't have to ask for zillions of proof that I have it and I don't have to deal with your flight schedule. If there is no one local, that's just fine by me.
