81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING: BTC-e now bans users for mentioning mcxNOW or realsolid [UPDATE] on: November 14, 2013, 06:09:09 PM
Haven't heard of mcx, so I went to check it out, and the first thing I see is:

Quote
realsolid: chowderman: gavin andresen, leader of bitcoin, is introducing centralized certificates into bitcoin, so thats the trojan horse

Okay, never visiting that site again lol. Glad to know realsolid is in charge and just spreading FUD about bitcoin. What's funny, is the exchange's backbone is btc...

How did my name get in there? Are you insinuating that I am that dude? Or in league with that guy? No Effing way hombre.

It's a copy and paste from the chat. That means, realsolid typed this into the chat:
Quote
chowderman: gavin andresen, leader of bitcoin, is introducing centralized certificates into bitcoin, so thats the trojan horse

That means, that he addressed you, with:
Quote
gavin andresen, leader of bitcoin, is introducing centralized certificates into bitcoin, so thats the trojan horse

Got it now?
82  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Block Erupter USB - ROI still possible on: November 14, 2013, 02:57:33 PM
If "private mining" becomes unfeasible/unprofitable, it kind of defeats the original intent of having bitcoins distributed fairly evenly, and not under the control of one or more "power hubs".

Once all coins have been mined the entire mining economy will come from transaction fees. Kind of difficult though to see how private miners will see this as an attractive way to spend their kWh, unless there is a profitable upside. I wonder if the transaction fees will skyrocket in the future to provide incentive for private miners. Having a diverse and distributed mining community is vital for bitcoin I think.

You forget that those that hold large amounts of BTC will also have an interest in protecting the network, regardless of fees.
83  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will You Sell when BTC Hits $1,000? on: November 13, 2013, 10:29:46 PM
I love these posts. Will you cash out when it reaches x? Cash out into what? I'm still cashing into BTC because I prefer that over the governments monopoly money. I keep out what I need to live, I don't have any expenses currently I need to cash out for. Only play with what you can afford to lose.
84  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Block Erupter USB - ROI still possible on: November 13, 2013, 10:28:13 PM
You should not include an exchange rate increase in your profit calculations. If you pay 0.04BTC (or the equivalent in another currency) for a device that will only produce 0.01BTC (after operating costs) in its lifetime, then it is not profitable. If you want to bet on bitcoins increasing in value over other currencies, then just buy bitcoins. This assumes your only motivation is profit.

I was going to write a bunch of clever calculations but you are right. It is actually more sensible to just exchange the $15 to 0.03 btc.

But if you really wanted to make a profit with a mining device of some kind, how would you be able to gauge the performance? Like "price per ghash per watt < x"? Did anyone make an online calculator for that?

-Michael

Everyone ignore everything else, and that's the answer right there. You could invest $15 to get 0.01 btc, or you could just buy 0.03 btc with that same money, and have those bitcoins.

Here is a fact that every miner needs to contemplate. THE DIFFICULTY IS NOT GOING TO GET EASIER

The end.

I'll reserve one as well I guess.

Whilst encouraging people to deposit into Inputs.io with his advertising campaign. He was offering double rewards for it. Doesn't that sound a little fishy?

You're quote of my quote was messed up, but in response to you, BINGO! Keep all advertising dollars inside the scam and the scam won't cost you a dime.
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: I get the feeling that "dark" bids/asks are getting more common on: November 12, 2013, 09:14:27 PM
Screen shot or some examples?

You're saying the price sits where it's at while volume increases, but you can't see the bids or asks in the charts?
88  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Inputs.io | Instant Payments, Offchain API, Secure Wallet, 235k+ BTC transferred on: November 12, 2013, 09:00:31 PM
He's just an 18 year old kid... If only we had known sooner...

Yes, although there is speculation over that. I'm sure I had read somewhere that he claimed or someone claimed to be 17/18 back in 2003 when he moved to Australia. (I'll see if I can find this information but I could be mistaken about this information)

However, the news report stated that he was 18.

Regardless, of his age. He should of had a backing. He shouldn't of let people to keep depositing even though he knew that if anything was stolen he couldn't replace it. This should of been a question asked right at the start.

Everyone keeps making it sound, like he knew this would be a long scam and could cash out. His exit strategy doesn't seem too bad. Pretend to be hacked, give some partial refunds to hush the loudest people, and pretend you're the victim. Not too bad.
89  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Inputs.io | Instant Payments, Offchain API, Secure Wallet, 235k+ BTC transferred on: November 12, 2013, 07:06:11 PM
I can confirm that ID was asked when I made my claim yesterday (or was it the day before?). It was a small amount (0.0025BTC)..

He must not have been able to keep enough of the BTC for himself after a few partial refunds. $1 does not seem like enough for me to hand over id verification documents to a scammer.
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great New Crash (fulfilled) on: November 11, 2013, 08:45:27 PM
What's with the whole "fulfilled" ? lol. When the price is higher a day after your "great crash" and a new all time high, you sound like an idiot.
91  Economy / Services / Re: The oldest sig ad campaign - get 0.3 BTC/month for free! No need to keep posting on: November 10, 2013, 11:08:28 PM
How are folks getting their coins reimbursed? Upon request? Or is Tradefortress personally contacting those whose accounts were hacked?

Yes, you have to contact him to get a portion. Otherwise, he is just keeping them for himself.
92  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great New Crash on: November 08, 2013, 09:51:35 PM
It is quite interesting there is little to no volume beneath it like April. Nice chart.

It's based on Mt Gox though.

Ahh, that's better. Is there a combined volume chart somewhere, or who's the leader now? Bitstamp? China?
93  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great New Crash on: November 08, 2013, 09:47:14 PM
I was thinking of the possibility of a new crash to come this weekend. Seems to me that the recent growth is too big to be sustained, it's really exponential!

Queue angry, self assured, post rationalizing Bitcoin zealot in 3....2.....1......

You can get a blade for about $180. 10Gh/s and brand new.

Double a jal and closer to your price range. Not as energy efficient, but based on the same thing in your block erupter.
95  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Looking to buy WORKING ButterflyLabs Jalapeño on: November 08, 2013, 09:16:28 PM
Ok... Calm down peeps... This is why I ask people to list their price so that I can see what is the price range is about. I will try to increase my budget after offloading some junk on ebay Cheesy

If you really want an ASIC, go with one of the USB sticks. It will give you half the hash, but it's in your price range. It's not going to be profitable, but should be fun, no?

Are you talking about BE or something else? I got 1 BE Tongue

Nope, not the block erupter, the red fury or blue fury sticks.
96  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2013, 09:07:00 PM
I love the positive attitudes, but I gotta be real honest here.. so much talk about giving BTC away WHEN we hit some future ATH number... How many times have I heard that already?

If you were not giving them away when the price was $30 or $120 or even now at $350, you will certainly NOT give them away at 10k.

If you are truly in the business of disruption, the time is now. Not when we are all rich.

If there is a battle for disruption between Hoarding vs Spending, SPENDING will be more disruptive 99 times out of 100.

Why not? I've given coins away cheaper than that and even now. Guess what? I give away a dollar or two at a time. More and more 0's after the decimal before you start seeing numbers. When it hits 10k, I will still give away coins. Transaction fee if unchanged will be the barrier then.

I am wondering how much will it cost for an used + working BFL Jalapeño nowadays. I don't think the jala will make any ROI with this difficulty and I am not looking to make any ROI with this machine since I am just a casual #not #looking #to #make #any #money #of #bitcoin dude that is interested in Bitcoin.

I am willing to pay in USD or GBP (GBP preferably) since I have BTC0.014044 only.

My range without shipping cost to UK is up to £70 (or £80 depending on the age of it, which is USD$112-128 (data from 7 Nov 22:25 UK time)).

Please list your price and hopefully I can try and match it.

p.s. I am a 16yrs old student only, be kind Cheesy

Better not to respond at all then.

Why? It's just my age and unless my price range is too low I don't think that matters at all.

Your price is ridiculously low for something in hand. Red fury can be had for 2.5 Ghs for $139 USD. Times that by two to get 5 Ghs worth. It's too little, double your price and you might get some hits, maybe.

Red fury can be had for what .39btc right now? Still doesn't mean it's worth that.

If it can be had easily for that amount, and say that is what the market is selling for, why would someone sell theirs to this kid for less than half off?
99  Economy / Speculation / Re: inputs.io hack effect on: November 08, 2013, 08:36:59 PM
I also have no idea what that is.

It is a wallet hosted by one of the hero members here on the forum. Thymos in his infinante wisdom decided to add him to the default trust list. This is what I had to say about it when I found out. He stole over a million dollars worth of BTC (accused of)

Quote
Man you guys are f@#$%d... I didnt realize what was meant by default trust.... f!@# you I dont trust any off you insiders. Especially TradeFortress there are numerous scammer threads about him... He is a lender! I dont trust lenders of coin!  I trust who I trust not who you think I should trust. Shit is bullshit.

Dont trust the default trust settings. Bunch of crooks

Where does that second quote come from? Link?
