81  Other / Meta / Re: Stop accepting ads from BFL until they deliver? on: April 03, 2013, 11:33:33 AM
Willing to put some money on that statement?

That quote is taken slightly out of context. I really do hope that someone can give me a better answer - why do they spend so much money on advertising something that they don't have? The amount of preorders they have should take them ages to fulfil anyway once/if they start shipping. At best, it seems like irresponsible business behaviour.

The product may or may not ship soon - all I'm saying is put the ads on hold until we've got proof and some realistic time frame on time of purchase to time of delivery.

Therefore I think it is the forum's responsibility to keep an eye on the ads that they show, especially when talking about tens of thousands of dollars worth of items, to see if the ads are at all realistic and trustworthy, regardless of it the forum is being paid or not.

Frankly, I think this is something that should have already been done months ago.

saw the    btc  thread   over 500 boners  by  dec 31 2013     +500,   any plans to put up bitcoin futures. thanks 4 readin mr block

Not really, in my opinion futures for bitcoin don't make so much sense since the currency in so volatile. If you bet one bitcoin now, it may be worth a lot more or a lot less once the bet is resolved... And I don't want to hold on to people's bitcoins for such a long time. Like Atruk mentioned there are other sites that are good for futures. Futures for a short period (for example a short tournament winner) might be suitable for the site though.

For MLB, do you plan on adding different total lines like you do for NHL?

Sorry but no such plans for the moment, want to see how the baseball betting goes in general for now.
83  Economy / Economics / Re: My bank account's got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: April 01, 2013, 04:52:18 PM
Whatever you call this BS in the EU, it sure as shit ain't capitalism.

Actually the bankers and politicians who are most benefiting from the situation are excercising capitalism in it's purest form.

I'm sorry to hear about the OP but I agree with some of the other posts in this thread: Blame Cyprus, not the EU.
84  Other / Meta / Stop accepting ads from BFL until they deliver? on: April 01, 2013, 02:55:41 PM
I'm probably out of line here, but here goes...

I know BFL are paying a lot of money to have their ads shown on this forum, but it's clear that they are having a lot of issues delivering. Maybe we should be more responsible about this matter, and stop showing ads from them until they have proven that they have the goods?

My problem with them is this: Why would they spend all that money into advertising something that they don't have, and with all the current preorders that would likely take them years to fulfill?

Only answer I can think of: They have no intentions of delivering, but don't mind taking the money from preorders. And if I'm right, that could be devastating for Bitcoin - that story is going to be on the news and a lot of people might lose faith in Bitcoin and strengthen the image of Bitcoin as a scammer's currency.

Any thoughts?

$99.95? Come on, that's teasing...

Yeah a lot of people had bitcoins on the Spurs, and I don't blame them. Hate it when coaches pull something like that, glad they didn't decide to rest Bosh as well... I was out of "the office" for a couple of hours yesterday so didn't have a chance to adjust the lines on that game before it was too late. Got lucky to escape from that one...

Somebody won quite a bit of bitcoins the day before on a similar play when Nowitzki scored a 3-pointer on the final seconds to give Dallas the win.

And what's up with Chelsea anyway, first they lose to Southampton and then they beat United...

MLB lines are online, basketball and hockey coming up a bit later.

Thanks for everybody helping out the newcomers with their first bets, glad to see so many people enjoying the service!

NCAAB Season Winner is now live as requested, no limit other than the 10 BTC site limit. I'm prepared to take a substantial loss if Wichita goes all the way Smiley

What kind of lines will you have? 10-cent?

Please check back tomorrow for the season opener but lines will generally be similar to our NBA games Smiley

For the hockey fans, make sure to watch the Penguins - Islanders game that's starting in just a few hours! Jarome Iginla will likely make his Penguins debut in that game and in any case, Pens are going for their 15th straight win!
88  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bookmaker quoted odds for Bitcoin $500 in 2013 on: March 30, 2013, 12:52:04 PM
Here's how those odds look like to the most of us Smiley

$100 or below: 4/5 ||| -125.00 ||| 1.80

$101 to $500: 11/8 ||| +137.50 ||| 2.38

Over $500: 5/1 ||| +500.00 ||| 6.00

The middle bet seems like pretty good value imo.

Didn't the last time happen last Friday, almost at the same time of day? Seems to me that the price drops almost every weekend nowadays. Why?

(I know it's Thursday now but tomorrow's a holiday)

Just wanted to comment that so far this site has been great. I usually send in my bets 5-10 minutes before tip-off and haven't had one issue with getting a return on wins.

Glad you like it! No problems with bets just minutes before tip-off as long as you use the standard fee. If you want to bet without fee, then I'd recommend to send at least an hour before just in case, since it's not possible to predict how long the network will take with them.

When it gets to the elite 8 or the final 4 could you offer lines for what NCAA team wins it all? You could put a max of like 1 or 2 BTC to prevent a major risk to the house. Hoping you could cause I would like to put a little on who I think will win it all but no book seems to offer future lines at all.

Will do - thanks for the suggestion! And I'm sure we can do at least 5 BTC limit on them, if not all the way up to 10 Smiley
91  Economy / Speculation / Re: I missed my chance to invest back in December.... on: March 28, 2013, 06:36:14 PM
What evidence is there to suggest that the price will continue skyrocketing like it has been?

What evidence is there that the price will come down? There is none either way. But it's at least safer to say that the current trend - which has been going on for a long time - will continue rather than to say that the current trend will turn around. But you shouldn't expect anything.

There isn't one of us who wouldn't want to have a time machine and go back and buy a bunch of bitcoins when they were cheap, maybe get some Apple stocks from 10 years ago while we're at it, but such speculation is useless. I bought a bunch when they were 10$ and I'm sorry that I didn't buy much more.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy ASIC to protect the network from a 51% attack on: March 27, 2013, 07:27:33 PM
Is mining profitable at the moment? If it is, then I would assume every individual and company with a bit of extra cash would buy all the ASICs they can produce, and there would be no way the government could keep up with that.

Will you be putting up MLB lines? The season is starting soon and I play almost every game on the board.

Absolutely. Games will be on once the season starts in a couple of days Smiley

made several bets and got paid ever time when i won

Thanks for playing and for the positive feedback!
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unencrypted backups (just curious) on: March 26, 2013, 03:05:53 PM
Alright, makes sense, thanks for a extensive and clear answer! So I suppose the old unencrypted wallet isn't necessarily useless, as there may or may not be something left there, at least if it's fairly recent? Though I understand why the developers wanted to word it like that to avoid any misconceptions.
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Unencrypted backups (just curious) on: March 26, 2013, 02:05:40 PM
Hi guys, quick question just out of curiousity, no big deal...

I just noticed that when I encrypt my wallet on Bt-Qt, it gives a message saying that "for security reasons, previous unencrypted wallets will become useless" and I'm just curious about how that works technically. So if I load a previous, unencrypted wallet, how does the program or the network know that there exists an encrypted one?

Or maybe I didn't understand that statement correctly?

Thanks for reading.
96  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 25, 2013, 08:50:44 PM
I don't mind even if there are longer delays in confirmations as long as I can see that the bet was made before match start and it's nothing crazy like a bet being confirmed hours after a game has already finished. And certainly the transaction fee does almost guarantee that there is no risk of double-spending.

I think I put a decent scare into you with Temple. Oh well, still got the points.

Yeah games like that can be a nightmare sometimes. Like yesterday, Bobcats had a very brief lead over the Heat, I think it was almost 10 points they were ahead... Sure that didn't last long but still caught my eye Smiley

thanks for being a grade A cunt Vettel!

Webber's win would have brought home a return of 15x... Well there was no bitcoins bet on him but still, that would have been too nasty.
97  Economy / Gambling / Re: Ponzi/Greater Fool/Tulip Mania Game Comparison on: March 24, 2013, 08:18:29 AM
Yeah I lost 2 bitcoins on one of these when it reset because of time. A lot of these sites have very little traffic so I think the risk for reset over time is probably around 60-90% especially if you have a higher price on your item.

all square thanks buddy... ya i derped thought i bet .2 and i had made a transaction at .2 but it was something different thanks alot. sry for wasting ur time lol

Don't worry about it, it happens, and I'm glad we got it resolved. All winning bets paid, right now I'm gonna have a small break and then get to work on today's NCAA games.

Hi i bet .20btc on the nuggets tonight but didnt realise the match was already 10 mins in and i was wondering how long it was going to take to get the refund. i got paid for my bet on the minnesota wild thanks for that.

Hey. I'm about halfway through all the bets from last night, so you'll have it soon. I'm seeing one 0.1 btc bet on the Nuggets minus handicap that seems to be about 10 minutes late, I assume you mean that one. Thanks for playing and congrats on the Wild win!
