81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 07:39:19 AM
ok I am starting to understand thanks dudes

does anybody know what he's talking about, I guess this temporary fix difficulty adjuster thing is going to self deactivate on something like 103792

https://github.com/terracoin/terracoin/issues/33

and then maybe it will be better to mine on?

it seems like the developer is actually somewhat competent.  but he's trying to pioneer something that's never been done.  so tomorrow or the next day we should be on 103792... and its either going to flop or stabilize...  most would bet on it flopping.. but I sort of hope the 51% attack vulnerability issue for altcoins gets fixed so I can implement it in my new coin, trollcoin.  the best coin evvarrr

ok, I think i sort of get it.  I'll need to further research that number
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 06:27:41 AM
well the way it looks to me.  is if all miners "die" and nobody wants to mine it, the difficulty cuts in half every 10 minutes a block isn't found.

so theoretically if nobody mines it, some joe with a laptop could process block chains at difficulty of 1.

so I am not convinced that this fix kills mining yet.  please fill me in.
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is TRC actually fixed? on: April 11, 2013, 06:25:33 AM
forks maybe.

but the way I understand it,

 51% attack occurs
difficulty goes up.  asic or whatever leaves.

10 minutes pass at no block found.  difficulty goes down by 1/2.  10 minutes go by.  if no block is found, difficulty goes down by 1/2... 10 minutes go by.  etc etc

so the result is 51% attack invulnerability.  because eventually even if it takes an hour somebody is going to see that low difficulty and mine it out to get the easy coins.

and yes m aybe the difficulty goes up again after 10 blocks.  but so what, it will come back down in no time.

I don't see another solution than the rough one implemented by the trc developers to 51 % attacks..  so

maybe in the future, there will be some kind of patch to make pool mining accessable again, or not.  but as long as there are transactions and it is being traded on speculatory exchanges I see its value increasing especially as more people look to altcoins and see that as an option.

the one problem I see is that if these miners mining for profit supply the exchanges with unlimited cheap TRC then they won't hold value at all.  so yeah in the last few days miners have mined something like 20,000 TRC which is sort of a ton, but not really a ton.

I think that this is what is keeping the price way down, and might push the price further.  for some damn reason people like trc though.

and if it functions I don't see how it won't at least exist.  and crypto-trade is opening in 4 days, they're going to offer it on their platform, to another demographic... I don't know.  I'm trying to speculate the future here, you might be right, but you haven't convinced me yet
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 06:16:47 AM
I can see how that would be frusterating for a miner.  so the people mining all the terracoins are like gpu farmers and such then?  asics...

and they just mine for profits and feed it right into the exchange...

your frusterations mining TRC i can sympathize with, but I don't see how that means it will be the death of a coin, maybe the end of TRC being mineable by pools..

to the asics and gpu farms messing with trc: stahp!
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is TRC actually fixed? on: April 11, 2013, 06:02:06 AM
why will interest in the coin wane without pool mining so long as its offered in trade exchanges?
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 05:57:10 AM
you think it killed it.  or just changed how mining for it works?  because if there is something out there hashing out its blocks, transactions will be processed.  there might be no mining pool possibility, but something out there is mining it.  and if I'm not mistaken, if an asic or gpu farm gets on trc and jumps off, there is a 10 minute adjuster that will divide the difficulty in half.

it seems wild and crazy, but I think he might be onto something.  I sold my TRC  but I don't know that I'm convinced that its actually dead.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / is TRC actually fixed? on: April 11, 2013, 05:52:54 AM
ok.  I'm all out.  but I'm thinking about going back in.  why?  because it looks like its actually become asic proof.

I've been watching the block chain, and yes asics have jumped on, blocks have been processed rapidly, but the developers fix limits asics to about 5-10 blocks and the difficulty goes way up.  and takes 10 minutes to swing back down.  but IT DOES swing back down.  definitely some improvements to be made on the next patch, but it seems to be a pretty great start.

it looks like madness, the difficulty swinging up and back like crazy. but I think it might be ingenuious innovation..  at least to start on.  my mind is starting to wrap around the initial problem 51% attacks are responsible for..  and it seems like he's onto an actual solution.  which would be historical.  and maybe save the future of bitcoin.  so if bitcoin ever ends up suffering bad from 51% attacks, they can utilize TRC's solution.  this may be idealistic dreaming

but the main thing is, our F@#$ coins aren't stuck indefinitely.  that was torture

my first concern was that going through too many blocks would flood the market with coins, but I realized that 20 coin blocks.  200 coins..  that's not too many.  its pretty profitable for them I guess 200 TRC in a minute.  but the system isn't down.

I have a feeling that they are mining tons and bringing them right to btc-e

which is the only reason keeping the price down right now.  and keeping them disinterested.

but I hear that at 103792 blocks some kind of equilibrium will set in and there will be more of a balanced thing going on.(what? I'm a layman)(experts please help me understand this with details)  the dev said it will get smoother over time.  and I think asics will be able to milk it less over time?

am I understanding this correctly?

https://github.com/terracoin/terracoin/issues/33

so... everyone was freaked about the swinging difficulties.  but we have a working network.

if 103792 comes and actually smooths out... prevents asics from dominating... and the terracoin sustains its health.  this will be unprecedented.  I am excited and watching with anticipation... even considering buying back in because an alt coin that sustains health will have a sustained growth too.

anyway.  your thoughts appreciated here

I'll admit it, I literally LOL'd

91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 05:29:15 AM
I've been watching the TRC block chain and yes the difficulty is swinging madly, but the coin is still working.  yes there are some minutes where some asic somewhere gets through a 5 or 10 blocks but it goes back smoothly to MOVEMENT.  transactions aren't stuck indefinitely, and not too many coins are flooding the market, and supposedly his algorhythm gets smoother over time.  and in about a hundred blocks supposedly the ultimate fix kicks in.  and if he has figured out asic invulnerability, TERRACOIN WILL HAVE MADE HISTORY.

so for whatever this difficulty adjuster is, I give the developer props for being able to handle asics so far.

but I am still going to try to convert him to turning terracoin into trollcoin.  he might not be pleased with what I have done.

If I end up leaving terracoin alone I do want to birth trollcoin.  the money trolls prefer... worldwide

I hopped on coinotron with my 404Mh/s, and will add 700Mh/s to the network later today.

btw coinotron is giving me trouble, any suggestion for a TRC pool?
coinotron is fine, just had to re-login to see my account page.

my address is:

so terracoin is getting through 11 blocks a minute.  last time I checked.

jubilex, you get any reviews from anybody?  any updates?

spacegoat, how old are you? I'm trying to figure out how you haven't realized yet that no one cares about your idiotic trollcoin idea

you wouldn't understand.  it would be a meme based coin.  the epitome of open sourced intelligence.  troll-face would be the meme.  it would be the don't give a fuck coin that works the best... and is actually fun.  and not so technical on the face.  just wham bam easy. simple.  keep the technical stuff under the hood.

you could probably figure out why I am still stoked, if you saw the conversations going on in my inbox.  my original meme was kind of harsh.  but I've gotten some enthusiastic responses about the idea.  and I still like it so until you cut me down in a way that makes me even consider your opinion is valid I'm gonna continue running with it.  I have a vendetta of sorts.

............................

I'm learning about bte's retargetting and what I've found is that bte is still vulnerable to 51% attacks.

jubalix, it appears BTE recovered in 3 hours in comparison to TRC's 4-5 days, but its also a much smaller network, are we certain using btc's retargeting will solve this?  can we get more opinions on this, I am not familiar with forums, but sunny king and trade fortress seem to have coding legend status, if we could have them peer review your work jubalix,

I got nothing but energy, and I'll raise my class a bit and be more presentable with promoting the fork.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: April 10, 2013, 10:49:22 PM
can someone fill me in, I heard that byte coin might be fairly invulnerable to 51% attacks with the BTC retargeting

is this true, can someone give me the rundown?  I just lost alot of faith in alternate coins from seeing my investment in terracoin cut in half with the system froze.  it was whacker than whack, but I have heard bte isn't as affected by 51% attacks is this true, can someone explain this to me real quick?

much appreciated

bte is a perfect clone of bitcoin. It has all of bitcoins strengths and weaknesses. Bitcoin can be 51% attacked so can bytecoin.

so... what's stopping asics from doing to bytecoin what they did to terracoin?  anything?
