It would take much time for legacy of ethereum to diminish. And with the rising number of options, devs would hesitate more on deviating from ethereum.
Every technology has it's pros and cons, and people with high competence in tech understand that, and can make an educated decision. I do not see any way in which Ethereum is superior, except being first-to market. |

Sorry, meant NEM But wasn't NEM an ICO too? I remember they were selling NEM shares in NXT back in the day. So everything recommended in this thread can be delisted from the exchanges if the SEC or whoever defines them as unregulated and unlicensed securities. Yeah, that includes NXT, ETH, NEM, WAVES, ARDOR... The whole lot of them. Counterparty isn't an ICO, so that might get a pass. But if there's one project that has a built in decentralized exchange that couldn't be considered an ICO, it's BURST. No premine, no ICO, no dev tax and all that bs. I think it would be hard for any government to take the BURST decentralized exchange down if ICO's are being issued and traded using it. ICO for an ICO platfrom. One might call it 'inception'. |

I think that the title "How to make your own exchange within an hour" is an overstatement. An exchange made within an hour it should last... an hour. Maybe it has the functionality provided by OP, but some really big exchanges have been hacked (eg: BitStamp, Bitfinex, etc...) and they have entire teams of developers. To build an exchange is not an easy task and learning how to program takes years of learning and practice. There are no shortcuts.

If someone wants to introduce new futures, it has to know the inside-out of the code, because otherwise, it could introduce aditional security holes and most of the time this is exactly what will happend. Althought, I agree that using an exact copycat of your exchange, it may be as secured as your own exchange.. but then what will be the point? Why someone would go to a copycat exchange and not on the original? Anyway, I'm not condamning your initiative in anyway but in fact I encourage it, like any other initiative related to crypto development. I just want to point out some aspects that may not be so obvious from the start. Good luck with your service. Our goal is to create a customisable backend that can be used for any purpose: Trading, Bitcoin payments, money remittence, shopping, gambling - whatever you can imagine. I'd be down with it, if I could scroll through, vote as well, and see whether or not I agree with everything. I'd be super hesitant to use it but I'd like to go somewhere that has a unique system to regulate it to one vote per person (and prevent duplicate accounts). Seems like it would be like Yelp but worse - companies could pay people to vote a certain way, people could sell their votes, or the developers themselves could blackmail the coin into paying them to delete the negative reviews, just like Yelp does. So yeah, I'd be really hesitant.
Let's face it, if there's a coin out there, there's going to be someone calling it a scam. So really this would just be a list of coins with the most disliked being labeled as "scammy".

Would there be a built-in forum type thing that allowed people to discuss their interaction with the coin? Would you allow the coin themselves to change their reviews if they pay you (Yelp style)? I would like to start by saying that you are right, this would be easier. But there are several things which you might have overlooked: 1. As a lean startup we focus on minimising our time to market, by focusing on the important stuff - Make transactions work, always! 2. We believe that to sell something you need to try it first... otherwise it might not work as well as it would. 3. We would like to to see that our partners are at least somehow competent and comfortable around basic code changes, or can get paid help if needed. Treat it as test of minimal competence.
