81  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [47 TH] mmpool.org - 1.5% fee split DGM/PPS - tx fees/vardiff/merge mining on: April 06, 2014, 04:16:23 AM
That 47TH looks so much nicer than 9TH in the old thread. Smiley
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] RoyalMiningCo Pool on: April 06, 2014, 04:13:11 AM
I'll be using this thread as a support/contact page for my pools/nodes/etc in general moving forward, not just the TRC pool.

So an update on the p2pool nodes is that the interface has been updated to show recent blocks as xAxis additional plot lines, and if you scroll down to your username you can click it to get a miner-specific page that will show only your own address hash rate graph as well as your total share value plotted over time.

The BTC/VTC nodes show recent block xAxis lines as I think I'll stick with it, the UNO node shows them in front of the graph data for comparison. However I think having it "in front" of the rest of the data is a bit ugly?

Feedback appreciated, and any suggestions for the interfaces you'd like to see I can try and implement. I intend to work on a transaction history to your payment address soon (like on Eligius' stats pages) and maybe some other ideas too.

Ok. Then maybe I'm just paranoid and somehow it's a multipool that's so large, it's able to mess up the difficulty algorithm on a consistent basis for 2.5 weeks in a row on a 3 hour cycle.

86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why would a coin not be merge-mined? on: April 06, 2014, 02:50:45 AM
I'm guessing because people want to profit from mining the new coin and if the difficulty started out in the billions, that would be difficult. Wink

Still though it's all relative. Some coins do merge mine from day one, like HunterCoin. They have a purpose for the coin (the HunterCoin game in the wallet) and so just need to keep transactions moving/etc, and instead of competing with BTC they merge mine. Makes a lot of sense.

I think any sha256 coin with some sort of real purpose to exist should merge mine. Only makes sense.
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 06, 2014, 02:46:37 AM
I still worry the coin has been under a timewarp attack for ~2 weeks though and someone is minting a large number of coins at inaccurate difficulties?
88  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool fees? on: April 05, 2014, 11:11:00 PM
This website: http://p2pool.in/  says, "By default, P2Pool receives 1% to fund P2Pool's development. This fee is optional, but very welcome and useful"

This website: http://p2pool.org/  says, "Pool fee is 2%"

What is going on?

p2pool.org is just a person running a public p2pool node. They can set any fee they want. You should install p2pool yourself, or use a public scanner to find a public node with low latency to you.
89  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9 TH] Bitparking Pool, DGM 0%,vardiff,stratum,Merge Mining on: April 05, 2014, 11:09:09 PM
SUGGESTION:

MAZACOIN is merge mineable.

please may we add it? OP?

People keep saying this in other threads but it doesn't seem to be true, just something that is being discussed by one of the devs as a possibility? mazacoind provides no getauxblock API call.
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Info & Discussion on: April 05, 2014, 11:57:01 AM
Wallet cannot find a network to connect too after 7 hours.

Feel free to addnode=us-east.royalminingco.com if you wish.

Beats me how.  I'm not having any luck with merged mining with p2pool.  I keep getting "method not found".

Mazacoin doesn't have a getauxblock RPC call. That is what p2pool uses to fetch the merged work. So, I'm confused.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Under attack? on: April 05, 2014, 12:01:38 AM
Thanks, Roy7. Guess we'll see.  I noticed about 20 mins ago that there were stuck transactions in my wallet. They've since cleared but it took a very long time. They're usually instantaneous. It probably took 15 mins to get first confirm.

The big flood of blocks makes the diff skyrocket, so real blocks that hold transactions get really slow. Can keep an eye on things at

Looks like this address is winning a ton of blocks.  Pool I hope, and not an attacker.
http://rockchain.info/address/mpkwwWGaPM3HK627M5ffr9PELbb97gp8Ab

I believe that's the attack. The blocks always come in surges and always with artificially low difficulty.

Yes it's merge mineable Smiley

Crazy. I'll have to try. I already have it set up on my server but not running, have a p2pool node set up for it. Forget that, I'll merge it off BTC. Wink
94  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6600Th] Eligius: 0% Fee BTC, 105% PPS NMC, No registration, CPPSRB (New Thread) on: April 04, 2014, 10:27:49 PM
NMC is not the only one, but until recently was the only one that supported merged mining.
I've been encouraging wizkid057 to add HunterCoin and MazaCoin, but he hasn't had time yet.

Is MazaCoin really merge minable? I'd not seen that mentioned before. It seems people normally run traditional pools for it.

So looks like mhPM56zPEawm7e2ypxiDnnnPRDfBDTh2Xw has "mined" 6650 blocks so far, for a total of 1624 UNO, in just over 2 weeks.

98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is Unobtanium under attack? on: April 04, 2014, 09:13:59 PM
The official thread has been locked for quite a while, so not sure where else to bring this up. I wrote up a post on reddit about my concerns:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Unobtanium/comments/2281i0/under_attack/

and will quote it here:

Quote
I've noticed the DOA rate skyrockets on my p2pool node every 3 hours, for a while now. I tried to figure out why, and it's because the diff will drop impossibly low (like 25K) and then so many blocks flood in all at once my miners can't keep up, so the huge # of DOAs happen until all those new blocks are finished flooding in.

Looking at the block explorer this feels exactly like the old timewarp attacks on TRC's difficulty algorithm. An attack would manipulate the timestamps in such a way to get the diff really low, mine a massive number of blocks, then introduce it into the block chain causing an ophan and hundreds (thousands) of new blocks all generating coins only to himself and with no transactions.

That seems to be exactly what is happening now. Since the BTC thread has been locked for a while I can't bring this up there, so I'll mention it here instead, in the hopes the devs will notice and do something about it. The TRC dev tried a few things to try and counter it but eventually had to give up and revert to BTC's basic algorithm to make the timewarp exploits go away.

Uno may need to consider the same, or something like KGW if KGW has no known attack vectors yet.

Also, we're 82% of the way there now. Almost done.

lol.
100  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin, Virtual and Crypto Currencies, Mining Pools, and the IRS on: April 04, 2014, 02:32:46 AM
I think you are misreading this. Basically they are saying if you pay someone with bitcoin instead of USD you still treat it the same way. 1099 still required over $600, etc.

Miners are not employees or independent contractors for the pool operator. If anything, it is the pool operator who is performing a service for the miners.

If you have a $6000/yr housekeeper and start paying them in BTC instead of USD it has no effect on your need to report their pay on a 1099 form/etc, that's the point of the Q&A you quoted.
