801  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 04, 2018, 12:16:39 AM
If you're still using Novak's cgminer-gekko from like 2015, I highly recommend grabbing VH's current cgminer build from the 2Pac thread. He's got a Windows build linked from a post in I think page 107, not sure if it's been updated in the first post or not. VH's driver is much better, and the base cgminer (4.11) doesn't predate MSX. Not sure if that'll help but I guarantee it won't hurt.

I'm sure someone will pick up the slack.

As long as it's still mining, the issue is cosmetic. Flakey signal pin on one chip.
804  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone ever ROI'ed on their ASIC's in terms of BTC? on: September 25, 2018, 04:02:55 PM
What are you paying for power on that farm?

Also, am I the only one annoyed by how basically nobody in at least five years has used the term "ROI" correctly?
805  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 22, 2018, 08:08:20 PM
Even though that's literally the most common problem anyone ever has, this is getting to be a pretty long thread and isn't as searchable as one might hope.

Increase the voltage slightly and try again.
806  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: September 21, 2018, 09:16:02 PM
When irritant first linked the Bitfury update a couple days ago I wasn't too excited because MOQ in the order form was over 200k chips. Leastways that's what I saw. It's been brought to my attention that the bottom of the list is now 500 chips, which is attainable.

Plus they've made what looks to be a pretty great footprint available that'll ease some manufacturing and design.

Suddenly I am quite excited.

That'd be more interesting if I hadn't just bought a buttload of samples from Innosilicon.
808  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: September 13, 2018, 01:44:28 PM
does not give a rats ass about shitcoins

This is almost a direct quote of my stated opinion. The one exception being, SHITCoin proper is an actual cryptocurrency set up as a joke but in that way is more honest than at least 95% of available altcoins.

But yeah I do BTC stuff. If you want something else talk to jstefanop, who does scrypt stuff.

5cm. Somewhere back a few pages someone put up an Amazon link to a taller fan that fits and reportedly does a better job cooling. Might also have to track down longer screws.

Links are in the first post, in the same vicinity as the build instructions.
811  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 05, 2018, 10:47:36 PM
Before building for Windows, I'd suggest downloading one of the already-built builds.
812  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 03, 2018, 03:35:45 PM
If it's an altcoin, you might be better off asking in the altcoins section. This is more likely a software thing than hardware.
813  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: August 30, 2018, 11:48:46 PM
Drop me a line so's we can talk a bit.

Point of fact, anyone waiting on an R808 warranty that I haven't already made arrangements with, message me.
814  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: August 30, 2018, 11:47:47 PM
I had figured on putting the new one in a case at the factory.
815  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: August 30, 2018, 11:09:34 PM
I really need to keep an eye on that guy. New miner, gotta check it out.
816  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Now that usb sticks are being sold by sidehack here is a new usb hub thread. on: August 29, 2018, 08:43:18 PM
I'd talk to your buddy who already has a working setup. The biggest difference between 2Pacs and Moonlanders is the required USB driver, but hardware good for one should be good for the other.

At least four liquid-S9 threads have disappeared, including one this afternoon.

I don't recall whether Hardware or Speculation, but I've seen several other threads vanish (or moved without leaving a record, not sure) in the last few days about other potential-scam new gear. Those kinds of threads, with established members discussing whether or not they're untrustworthy vendors, is one of the things making this forum a valuable resource since the first days of ASIC miners. Now they're getting removed pretty much daily.

I wasn't around for all of it, but before Halong started shipping there was a lot of discussion about whether or not they were legit and probably around a third of the posts in that thread ended up deleted before everything was settled and it got moved out of Speculation. Ask around. A lot of reputable folks got hit with the cleaner. That kind of crap can't keep happening.
818  Other / Meta / Re: Overmoderation of the Hardware forum on: August 29, 2018, 02:39:09 AM
Last time I had words with frodocooper about unnecessary edits and deletions (in that case, worthwhile newb questions and pertinent answers) he advised me to take it here if I had a problem with how he did business.

The watercooled S9 threads were not repeat topics. A new one appeared only after the last one was deleted. The third thread even started with "I'm surprised this is the last place to have this info" because, while it had already been presented two or three days earlier, it kept getting removed.

I looked but could find no record of the thread having been moved to trashcan. I checked my recent posts and all from missing threads were removed from the list. The discussion simply vanished from history. This has been happening a lot, and the level of censorship is ruining the environment. Discussion on the Hardware board has dwindled to a fraction in recent months, likely in part because about every third post gets deleted.
819  Other / Meta / Overmoderation of the Hardware forum on: August 29, 2018, 12:45:42 AM
Admittedly I don't get around much. I'm a hardware guy, have always been a hardware guy, got started with bitcoin mining and this forum in 2013 because the hardware was interesting. So I spend most of my time between Hardware and Mining Speculation.

I've noticed lately there's been a lot of "cleanup" on the Hardware forum. Some things are handy, like tidying of massive inline images or dozen-deep nested quotes. That's quite useful.

But then there's a whole lot of removing posts or entire threads going on, much more than I'd seen in the previous five years. Someone mentions a new piece of gear, folks wonder about it, and the next day all traces of discussion are gone. Or within a thread, many posts following the flow of conversation still peripherally related to the subject, or any post even mentioning the existence of altcoins, disappears. Many can attest to removal of posts calling particular un-verified manufacturers into question during discussion of new hardware, but that I believe was mostly in Speculation (though the moderator may have been the same).

I've witnessed several times someone new will ask a hardware question, and a knowledgeable member will provide an answer, and within hours both question and answer will have been deleted without good reason. This discourages active participation and reduces the forum's reputation as a resource for information.

The recent most obvious instance of thread deletion is discussion regarding Bitmain's new water-cooled S9. In the last six days I have seen four threads discussing this machine started and promptly removed. Apparently whoever's in charge there insists that all discussion of the water-cooled S9 be limited to the main S9 thread, already heavy laden with over two years of clutter. This ignores the fact that the watercooled S9 is a completely different machine than a stock S9 - in addition to waterblocks, the physical hashboards appear different and there's more of them. These differences, and a plethora of other facts unique to that machine, were being actively discussed in every deleted thread. The T9 is closer kin to a stock S9 than the watercooled unit, and it gets its own thread, apparently simply by merit of having a different name.

Why is this overmoderation, bordering on censorship, acceptable and allowed to continue?
820  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New: Bitmains S9 Hydro 18TH ! on: August 28, 2018, 07:04:45 PM
Apparently a bunch of people disagree or they wouldn't keep making new threads about it. Might carry the same chips and controller but it's a different beast any way you look at it. In addition to the obvious waterblocks instead of heatsinks, it's a different hashboard and there's a different number of them. Makes as much sense as saying R4 discussion belongs exclusively in the S9 thread. Heck, even the T9 is more of a stock S9 than this is (only difference being 9 chips deleted from the PCB) and it gets its own threads.
